- If you visit mountain bike parks, you know what the big version of this is called. Here, we'll go with pecker log. This weekend I only had about a day and a half to knock out a build, so I hope you still find it interesting! Enjoy

I'm totally stoked to see your new vids, but I'll be honest, I'm jealous of the freaking tools you get to use

Plenty of elbow grease involved never the less
The wacker is one of the machines that frustrated me the most while learning how to use it! The soil needs to be almost dry at the top for it to work at its best! Keep the good work up Seth!! Cheers from Chile!!
viva mtb enduro chile
As a geoengineer, I can tell you that this is not correct. Dry soil packs the worst, but overly wet soil sucks just the same. There is an optimal amount of water to every soil , called the "proctor density".
I think you have clay at your place, just like seth has. The wacker is desinged to be used for sand & gravel and will (obviously) make a mess on clay. You will need a sheepsfoot roller to compact clay, these sheepsfoot are also available for wackers.
5:00 That stuff is most likely Stonedust, used alot here in the NE where the soil is sandy and tends to shift over time. Traditionally you lay this before a foundation and lightly wet it, then tamp it, and it will settle and harden almost like concrete.
Bespoke Bud thanks for this

mtnbiker49 yeah big time. I’m no safety enthusiast but it would’ve been about a thousand times easier to wheel it off with some plywood or a couple of planks.

“Proudly protruding from the earth” 😂 you’re the best Seth 🤙
I’ve been home from school lately with terrible anxiety and every day I hope you make new berm peak videos. I love mountain biking too. These videos make me feel so much better. Thanks Seth
Seth, I’ve been subscribed to your channel from almost the very start and have watch how much you progressed. You used to be very cautious but now you shred. You have also inspired me to build trails in my backyard and have helped me learn how to built some of the stuff. Right now I’m starting to work with wood more and am going to try to build a wood launch ramp. Well I just want to say thank you for your time and effort into your channel.
Seth i started getting into mountain biking less than a month ago. My friends were talking about your channel. And now i feel confident in my knowledge of biking and never miss a video. Thank you seth for inspiring me and my friends to build biking trails and to improve upon our skills.
Are we going to see any wall rides Seth??? 🙏🙏
He built one last week.

This is one of the most interesting channels on RUclips. Amazing DIY videos combined with mountain biking, along with well written voice over. Can watch Seth videos all day
I love watching these Seth! I really want to get into mountain biking but I have no time in college and dont really have the money to do it at the moment. But I get satisfaction by watching you ride!
Keep an eye out for deals on MTBs and if you find one maybe buy it if you got the money
I bought my MTB on sale
Nobody could make these videos better than you. Great job and in the concrete flatwork industry, we call that mixture from the home building process “screenings” and yes it’s great to use for a mud packer barrier
I love seeing all of this work become a really good trail system. Seth should be proud
4:38 LIFT WITH YOUR LEGS SETH!!!
Every time Seth uploads my weekend gets better
Seth, I'm stoked to see all of your videos dating back 5 years! Growing up, I lived in Lakeland, FL with Carter Road Park, Alafia and Santos bike trails never far away! Wish I found you back when you started, I have been to Markham Park, but never knew about Virginia Key. From 2000-2004 we road the TOE in Lakeland, those trails were absolutely sick, and it's too bad you never had a chance to ride it, as the land closed in 2006.

The way to get that jump to sit securely is to fit it in there. To fit it in there you use a pair of calipers/dividers and draw/scribe a line with them holding upright the whole time. Then you remove the wood up to the line from the bottom log. This is mountain man style to how you'd build a log cabin with nice, tightly fitted joints. Great vids Seth!
Seth i love ur videos man and all my friends watch them as well, cheers for everything you do
Seth I love what u have done and really got me to love mountain biking u r a inspiration and u have come a really long way from when u

You're becoming one of my favourite MTB channels... mainly because of your diversity and DIY stuff... My channel was build on DIY stuff, and now I've started doing a couple of MTB videos... my regular viewers are not taking it well... 😂I may just loose them all and have to start from scratch... 😬thats a risk I'm willing to take, MTB is fast becoming a great passion of mine... So I sold my entry level mountain bike back in 2014 thinking I was eventually going to upgrade anyway. Life happens as it always does and I stopped riding. Finding your channel a month ago and binge watching your videos has gotten me wanting to be back on a trail. Today I found my self at a local bike shop talking to an employee about components on a bike that I definitely did not know a month ago. I want to thank you for this channel and for showing me back to the trail. I walked out of that bike shop with a smile and a new mountain bike. Thanks Seth

The gray rock stuff you put on the berm that the previous home owner left is called road base grate video mate 👍

The grey dirt is called sandrock. We use it in the Carolinas as a base for driveways. It packs and drains well.
I don’t even really ride my bike (On trails) but I still watch Seth’s vids lol that means the content is really great
Luvin’ your build and your BermCreek trails...soon to be paradise!

Pro tip for sharpening. I have a decent amount of experience sharpening tools similar to yours, and a good rule of thumb is to push your file in towards the blade instead of pushing away. I’ve found your blades stay sharper longer, and are less prone to dent or bend. I know it is a rough-use tool, but that principle can be applied to any tool or knife. Hope it helps!
man it looks like such a fun line! i would love to have that in my backyard (who here wouldnt, i know haha)
Seth, ever since I first watched your videos when you had your trek in florida ive wanted to get better. Now I can confidently ride black diamonds with ease, your videos have helped me on setup and buying guides, and your riding tips. I just wanted you to know your videos are helping people in all kinds of ways. Keep shredding!
Seth: sharpens tool and can cut paper.
Also Seth: “ well at least it will cut dirt!”
It didn't cut the paper at all. It ripped it, that means it is extremely dull
I meant to say ripped not cut
Such awesome content. You're truly a workhorse. Awesome filming, delivery, narration, presentation, riding ability, and trail building skills. On top of all that throwing giant logs on your back and walking them up a trail. Amazing! I hit this channel and the Berm Peak Express channel every time a video drops. Please never quit.
Hey seth Iv got a hack for sharpening things, just use angle grinder its super fast
Tomek Filipowski with a sanding pad.... same thought.
yes grinder, then use the file, then finish with a Japanese water stone before the paper test (file and stone is a complete waste of time if you are putting it in the dirt)
Always digging on the riding vids (your bread and butter) but the building and maintenance videos are top notch. Thanks man
That opening scene made me laugh so hard man!
Ahh ,these trail building videos are so fun to watch!
0:01 i thought that was about to be the "To be continued" meme song.
Great day. I had a half day of school and Seth just Seth.
Hey Seth, when are you going to eat the other half of the whole enchilada?
I started to make my own mtb park last week, I have a jumpline called send it and a tech trail called lumberjack
The Dinosaur didn’t ask
4:47 bevis and butthead do america😅
just to make the next one easier, its usually easiest and works best to work from the top of the slope and work along sideways. pulling the compactor up and down the radius of the slope :) the curved lip at the front then helps you get the radius of the berm rather than always fighting with the edges digging up what you've just compacted!!
At 6:49 he sounds so happy to say “pecker log”
After school these videos make me so happy to come home and watch!!
Seth loves to upload right as I'm about to go to sleep, and you know i can't not watch it.
xD its 3 pm where i live xD
It's 7:30 where I live

I found a great way to move logs. Get a 7 ft or so long 2x4, or other sturdy lever, and tie a short piece of rope around the lever about 1/4 of the way up, and tie the other end around the log you want to move. You plant the bottom of the lever into the ground and push forward against the top of the lever. You can adjust the mechanical advantage of the lever by raising or lowering how high up the rope is tied on the lever
“Gray pow” is called Class I sand (class eye sand)
I was thinking quarry dust but you're probably right.
The gray material you used was most likely screenings or 2M sand. We use it for foundation stabilization for roads, bridges etc. This is the same fines that ABC stone consists of. Very good for compaction!
12 seconds!!! New personal record for first view!!!
The gray stuff might be chip limestone. You can get it delivered bulk if you like. Also, the best bracing you can do on logs is to notch them, like how a log cabin wall is built. The notch acts as a cradle and increases surface area (and friction). If you still need some stiffness, use a 3/8 long bore bit and drill thru the notch and the sitting log (from the bottom) and drop in a piece of #5 rebar. I'm a big fan of SPAX 1/2" self-tapping heavy duty wood screws also.
6:36 ah!
Dude, I found this channel like 4 years ago when I wanted to learn how to ride a bike with no hands, amazing to see how far your channel has come my man.
Seth: builds one jump per week
SingletrackSampler: "I'm doing too much. maybe I'll post a video in April."
Shawn you have no videos, I know I don’t but don’t be hippo critical
seth thank you so much for your inspiration i love your videos and because of your videos i’ve actually started build on trails in my backyard too and it makes it so much easier to get out and ride my bike. i even built a 6 foot drama drop last year and because of this video i decided to make a pecker log but i didn’t want to go buy wood for it so for the planks i split logs and laid the flat sides up then used dirt to fill in the top to make the whole thing a dirt jump and it rides amazing if you ever have time it would be really cool if you could make a video on making features only using hand tools and wood off berm peak thank you so much for all you do for us fellow bikers and i can’t imagine how hard it is to get these weekly videos out with all the rain i honestly feel your pain considering i only like about an hour away from you in knoxville.
1:28 shagged carpet pahaha
That gray colored dirt you found and are using is called 'stone dust'. It's what the name implies, it's crushed stone and sometimes recycled concrete blended in. It's used as a base layer under pavers, driveways, etc. When you pack it tightly it'll harden up, which is why it's a good base layer. You can order it by the truck full.
I’m assuming that the Pecker log is made out of “hard” wood. (Had to be said!)
Nice

Seth the style of this video was fantastic! Thank you
Ay I’m actually early keep up the good work
You know you're addicted to mountain biking when you build trails, and then come home and watch Seth build trails lol.
And not sure if it's possible, but a cool little spine over a fallen tree at the beginning of a trail would be a pretty rad little jibby thing to build as well
I bet Seth won’t pin this comment
And you are correct.
Still correct
I enjoy theses videos every week and I don’t even own a bike. Keep up the great work Seth!!!

Excuse: I skidded off it

That grey pow is called stone dust, you can get it in bags at any home improvement store or in bulk at any garden center or any yard where you can buy sand or dirt, like the one where you got your Granular A (gravel) for the forest road. It's actually the same powder that was mixed in with the gravel and is what gives it that concrete-like quality when you tamp it. If you're building a stone patio, it's what you put right under your stone, that stuff is like magic
I would definitely get a yard or two so you can use it, just make sure to throw a tarp over it because the rain will wash the fine stuff away pretty fast when it's loose. Also put a tarp in your truck bed because it's pretty messy but won't damage the tarp
