Secret tunnel really does represent the Avatar fan base. It’s fun and goofy, but it’s also about preserving through hard times for the sake of love, how in darkness the light shines brightest purely because it’s hope. Despite everything working against them, these two people worked hard to be together and love each other. Avatar is a story about hope and goofy characters in a war torn world and this song so beautifully captures that.
I think that’s because the music is semi diegetic, nothing is producing it in the world (well besides the scenes with actual instruments playing music) but it’s like actual music that was “made” and possibly played in that world!
How the hell did they turn one of the most meme worthy moments in the show into the perfect tribute to the triumph of love and friendship over adversity?
@@linneathesystemsdruid308 Kids shows? Samurai Jack. The attention to art and sound design that went into that show is astounding. If Avatar is like reading a well crafted story. Like me, you are probably wondering why you're crying over this. I think it speaks volumes that a silly little song, starting as a jokey gag from the writers all that time ago, can now be reembraced as this symbolic representation of the show as a whole by a much wider fanbase. It's this goofy, fun, innocent, joyous celebration of a journey we all experienced, and a reminder that you can be serious and comical at same time.
I'm singing along as the video plays and not gonna lie, the pauses and breaks are matching almost fucking perfectly. My man singing live is going through the exact same emotional roller coaster we are.
So um... do you know when they are gonna finally release Hytale? With gta 6 around corner it'll be crazy if that comes out first right? 😅. Edit: That was absolutely beautiful btw it really put me to tears and to see this community all come together like we are to celebrate an old show from our childhood... I'm proud to be apart of this journey we're on as fans of the show. 😊
I imagine that's part of what makes this song so good for performances. The audience can give it as much reverence or goofy passion they feel like giving in that moment.
The Denver show was fantastic. Not a dry eye in the theater. I heard sniffling all around me basically throughout all of the book 2 segment. Intermission was absolutely needed to clean off the tears.

Because the genius of this piece, is that it begins initially as a tribute to the actual song from the show, but the visuals slowly help paint the bigger picture. Secret Tunnel is this goofy, almost ridiculous song that made us laugh as children. It was a catchy tune that helped deliver exposition and introduce some quirky characters. But when you zoom out and think about it, the song is a perfect reflection of the show. It's this goofy, self-celebratory, gleeful journey, but there's a deeper subtext and emotional meaning that guides the whole show. I think what hits for me the most is that all these people can gather together, sing in unison, and share their memories of a show that was a huge part of their lives. Just repeating the verse over and over helps us tune it out and focus more on what memories it evokes.
Seeing this in SF with a room full of people losing their minds was like a spiritual experience! Zuckerman introduced it himself. People went crazy when they got 1 second of Zutarra lol.

Oh god this got me teary eyed. Avatar is so nostalgic and hearing an awesome live version like this with so many avatar fans in one place, it’s magical.
It's beautiful how this song symbolises that amongst all the hardships in life, (considering a bunch of kids had such insane responsibility to stop a war) there can still be moments of childlike joy, because life can't all be serious. Katara was right about all her speeches of hope
Me and my sister used to watch marathons that woulld rerun the previous seasons when a new season came out. Since the dub where we life came a few years later after the original run. But I do remember Nickelodeon still rerunning the show well into 2018 where I live

But the live action can't even hold a penny to this great work. It's not even close. They added too much and took away too much! Zuko wasn't supposed to kill Zhao. Zhao was supposed to go to the spirit world and remain for all eternity as punishment for his crime against the moon spirit.
But that crap on Netflix can't even hold a cent to this great work. They added too much and took away too much, this ruining the magic of the original. Zuko killed Zhao which wasn't supposed to happen. Zuko isn't a killer for one thing and secondly Zhao was taken to the spirit world to remain for all eternity by the water spirit as punishment for his actions against the moon spirit. Also, all of a sudden Bumi is now a whining powerless king who blames Aang for everything when in the original show Bumi is a happy jokester who likes to have fun and play pranks a riddles. The show holds no nostalgia because there's nothing nostalgic about it. It's a recreation of the original show not a live action of it.
