Laura is the best Tank in any RPG ever...you need to link her to Fie, the fastest character...that way she gets lots of secondary attacks that build up her S-Craft..
You got it the wrong way round. Fie is ultimate evasion tank, being able to guarantee a counterattack with her high evasion. Whack up her crit rate and she guarantees Laura will get a free chain attack which takes advantage of her massive physical attack and allows free BP regen
@@gabrielike1370 Chrono Burst, Noble Command. You now have a party of beasts. He's far from trash lol, he makes everyone better just by being around. His speed is good too, which is one of the most important stats in the game. He also has an AoE craft guard.
Evade-Fie literally breaks CS1 and CS2; paired with Emma for her Arts Immunity skill, your party is literally untouchable as the AI will always focus the closest character (which should always be Fie). Now have Rean throw out Arc Slashes, and Alisa for CP regen, and your party is basically set. Laura is the only one you can justify swapping in, replacing Emma once you get the quartz that gives Arts immunity, as a pure S-Break spammer (thanks to Alisa's CP regen) as her S-Crafts can absolutely nuke even endgame bosses.
I'm a Laura fan. She's my bae. Also, I tend to use evasion and crescent moon to help mitigate her weaknesses. Generally, I honestly don't think there's a bad character. You just need to build a party that can cover each other.
Laura doesn't NEED a 2nd turn. I use her, Rean, Emma and Alisa. Laura and Emma rain pain all day while Rean delay locks everything into oblivion. Don't need Machias to accelerate if the monsters never get their first turn. Kudos on selecting the correct best waifu, though.
ADF is literally most useless stat in the game due Impede existence. Also due the fact that there is almost no one who uses somewhat dangerous arts through the game. Maybe Zephyrantes, but those things are so slow that not impeding them is just ridiculous. Also people tend to forget that Gaius one of the best disablers in the game. His 4 line setup allows for stacking of all status effect quartz + his Impede and Blind crafts that severely cripple enemy as well. (fie heave same 4 lines but she have 30% chance on her blinds and seals - Gaius have 50% also gaius can refill his CP if needed) Also if you put fie on top spot as evasion tank - do not forget that same setup can be done for literally any character. 2 Evergreens+Evade quartz +MQ + Insight = 100% evade on anyone all advantage that fie have is initial 5% evade bonus which is really insignificant. Actually building Laura or Gaius into evade with strength can be even better since iirc Fie do not use her guns as counter till CS2 so her range is limited. and even then low str stat makes counters quite weak + high speed makes insight buff go away quickly demanding your time for recasts.
If you build evasion Queen Fie based on Insight, you are doing it wrong. Insightless evasion tank can be built up to 95% in my case, and since im making her crit counter char and speedy girl with Murakumo MQ and that crit quartz every counter you made, she still better than Gaius and Laura which should just focus on either mass debuff or an absolute mob slaughter. Also in CS1 i built evasion Rean since Fie counter is too short, i found her evasion counter in CS2 is a bless.
@Nogi Sonoko In cold steel 1 if you want to build counter then Laura and Gaius are better options due to high reach. also i like your story about no insight 95% evade. It is reachable sure but only for the last dungeon evade1+evade2+Aeolus+MQ+2 Evergreens+ zemurian weapon+best evade shoes+best evade armor is 5+10+10+10+10+10+15+10+10 which is 90% Female characters do not have +10% evade shoes so -5% to them. Also lets add the fact that zemurian weapon and Aeolus quartz are only available in the final dungeon. so that is -20% more for the most of the game. and so what do we see there? 90-25 = 65% of realistic non insight evade.
@@Istalior The one i mentioned earlier is for TOCS 2, though my current built with her makes me lose 10% of evasion since i want higher critical Fie which makes her current evasion at 85% in the very last dungeon. Never reach 70% evasion without insight Fie in TOCS 1 due to limitations. I should have clear that up first.
Emma's best girl, so you got that right. And it's been a long time for me since CSI, but I still remember by late game, no one standing even a flicker of a prayer of keeping up with her damage output at that point. You're right she's a little slow (easily shored up with casting speed quartz and smart accessorizing) and a little squishy to physically attacks (easily shored up by making sure Fie's several spaces ahead of her). Well worth the devastating damage output. This was a smart and well-thought out list imo. I mostly agreed with placements, and my party actually consisted of Rean, Machias, Fie, and Emma - for both CSI and II. Delay god, turn battery, support tank, support mage. Those four had no problems at all for me.
If you ever do CSII, I remember Emma being game-breakingly strong. I often say CSII Emma is the strongest character in the entire trails series. Rush: Lost art - fully recharge her ep - Lost art - and the fight - any fight - is over in one turn.
Somehow, I don't know how anymore, I managed to make a tank out of Gaius during my first playthrough. He could withstand attacks that wiped out the rest of the team with no problem, he was the least effected by status conditions (and later not effected at all anymore since I gave him the according accessory) and he had the highest attack. His weak point were using arts though since he only had so few EP. But I'm not using arts that often anyways. I gave him Seraphic Ring so he could revive the entire party if necessary and that was basically the only art I used with him. During the other playthrough when I played in Nightmare mode and was struggling with the final boss (other party members always struggling to keep up Adamantine Shield or Crescent Mirror or healing each other and thus always running low on EP) I often let Gaius without any protective art shields because, well, he could take it. That guy was as hard to destroy as a Terminator.
What good is burst drive when Machius is so slow? And what good is Defense on a ranged fighter? He's never the one absorbing most of the damage. Fie is fantastic because she takes her high evasion stat strait to the front lines so the enemy starts trying to hit her first. And Laura only needs one turn. One S-Craft equipped on the first turn equipped with with Domination and attack boosting quartz and Laura slays anything. Both early and late game. Emma by comparison is only that helpful at damage in the very late game when you get access to powerful damaging quartze.
Ok i know this is an old video, but this tier list is just a newbie list 😂 Since you said this is for endgame, you just need 3 delayer + alisa. Among those 3 must include rean since we cant swap him out. Other 2 can be fie which also works as eva tank and millium/gaius. I prefer millium for higher atk and larger range. Heck even the boss immune to delay, you still can work with this setup since all the dps are ranged with craft. And rean not on godtier is just one crazy idea since you said it yourself he can make the boss not getting even a single turn
As someone who picked up the game a week ago and is already on Chapter 6(that should tell you what I think about it lol) I gotta agree with the majority that you’re criminally underrating Laura. If you’re at any point fighting something that’s not a boss(and even some bosses) and you NEED a second turn from Laura, your party is either weak or unoptimized. Also disagree with Machias being rated so highly because you have to invest entirely too much into him to get him to that point, so much so that I’m amazed people don’t completely bench him by chapter 4 but that’s just me lol. I could bring up a few more points about Gaius and Elliot but nothing that I would consider tier changing for them
Laura does not need second turn of she have no turn in battle at all, heh. I could make a one shot Laura by making everyone buffing her like crazy but i dont think that was fun at all.
I think Laura should in higher rank than millium, my main problem with millium is her very low speed, while laura is a better, and laura is very simple to use, give her insight, atk boost, and she's ready to split anything into 2, she's a anti tank material rifle, while millium feels like the railgun, high damage but very low fire rate also point of consideration, laura is easier to use to stun an enemy before fight since her attack animation is quicker than millium
Machias was my one-man army on my first playthrough when I insisted on toughing it out after everyone else bit the dust instead of being normal and buying balms :) xD
yes sir, i also use Rean(Tank Evasion , Delay Craft Abuse) , Alisa(CP Battery , Supp) , Emma(Arts Nuker) and Fie(Tank Evasion Untouchable) . through out the game :V .
Does it even matter though? Aside from nightmare ng early game before you get the broken skills the game is easy with any combination of characters. All of the coldsteel games suffer this mechanic overload where all the new things aren't accounted for in terms of balance. Most noticeable in cs3 with orders. Status quartz stacking is also very broken for any non boss encounter.
Laura is crap tier? That automatically makes this video invalid and therefore I give it a thumbs down. Laura saved my party multiple times. I've defeated many main bosses because of her sheer strength. This is bull crap.
Anyway, fie and machias were the reason I finally got the game after eyeing it for a long time. Then I saw Emma' s craft and voice in the tutorial and I thought I had to keep her. And Alisa just have a very cute design and a wep I like. Glad they will be very good lol. I'll keep elliot on stanby for tough encounters. Thanks for the vid!
Laura is the best damage dealer other than Sara. Both deal monster damage. Pump their speed so they get more turns. Millium is another candidate for best damage dealer if you don't want to run Laura. BTW, ADF doesn't matter on your damage dealer. The only thing that matters is getting turns and dealing damage. Whoever your damage dealer is, you want to buff their speed. Laura provides a massive return on investment if you can just get her speed up a little. It doesn't matter if your damage dealer gets killed instantly by the boss. You just bring them back up with a revive and they take a turn like nothing happened. Fie is the best dodge tank/front line fighter. She can hit 100% evasion and becomes immune to most attacks at that point. Link her with a physical fighter so she gets linked counters and builds the damage dealer's CP. Best mage changes depending where you are in the game. A lot of characters go through peaks and valleys in this game based on what tools they have access to. Early game best mage is Elliot because Resounding Beat is almost required. You have so few tools and Elliot keeps your entire party up. But he tapers off eventually and becomes less broken but still good. Best endgame mage is probably Jusis because of Noble Command. A lot of people think Rean is good simply because of Motivate spam. Well, Jusis has something even better. Mistal/Pandora and he'll do insanely high damage just like all the other mages at endgame. Plus he can deal physical damage if you need it. Emma is good in CS2 because of magic shell. I don't recall needing magic shell spam (to counter cryptid magic spam) in CS1 though. All of the mages do similar damage with the right setup, so it's really about their Crafts and what you want them to do outside of magic. Jusis or maybe Alisa have the most utility outside of magic. Other characters: Alisa is a good support character if you rely on using S-Crafts a lot, like in a speedrun setting. I still think she's a little frail and would rather build my team to not need her in the first place. IF you build her as a dedicated mage, to take the place of the other mages, then she's probably top tier alongside Jusis. Giaus is a mediocre dodge tank with more damage. He's extra-mediocre in CS2 because he doesn't get the dodge buff that Fie does. Macchius is awful in the beginning, becomes a beast once he unlocks Petrification Shell, then becomes mediocre once enemies gain petrify resistance. Accelerate is good, but the problem at endgame is just how much more broken every other character becomes. I don't need Accelerate if I have time mage Rean getting a million turns and casting speed up spells with motivate and chrono burst. Crow is a great all-around character, but not worth investing in. He's good to throw in your party if you don't have a fully-optimized 4-person setup yet. I like to build Rean as a speed abuse character with impede, Raven, action 3, action 2 etc. He's a strong support character and helps plug gaps in a team. IMO he's mediocre as a damage dealer or mage and unsuitable as a tank. I also like Juggler on him. He uses a lot of aoe crafts and status elements are strong.
All of the characters have a certain broken use once you find it. I did 100% this game. But I just *really* wish they’d made you able to turn off battle voices. Hearing “MY TURN…it’s MY turn!” Over…and over…and over. Every. Single. Turn. Just about drove me over the damn edge. 😂
Every cold steel are so easy to break to be honest that i don't really find a tierlist useful. Just put fie as a tank with max avoid. Put a aoe atk character to down stat and ailment enemy and that it. Rean as a physical dmg dealer with crit Emma or Eliot as a mage and that's it. I get your point tho.
You put laura down for low speed and low adf, but then put emma higher despite having those same issues but even worse. And when you consider that impede kinda invalidates all magic from enemies in this game, and the fact that you can't really insta cast in the first game without kitting out heavily on bells and cast 3, kinda hard to justify the disparity.
ADF doesn't even matter in this game because of how the game systems work. Bosses have to take turns in order to kill you and they have to take even more turns to cast spells. A proper build using Laura kills everything on the first or second of her turns.
The team I used in the final boss was rean fie Machias and alisa machias spammed burst drive and alisa restored everyone’s CP While rean and fie Stayed in the front lines evading everything that came their way while spamming s crafts
The Real strongest character is Dominion + Force/Megalith. Put it on Millium, or failing that Laura/Fie and cheese every single non-boss battle. TURBO MODE ACTIVATE.
Let's see I play as Rean with Jusis as my right hand man.. The guy is good at everything lol After that as far as the men it's Gaius.. Top 3 women are Alisa, Laura & Emma.. I usually pair Rean with Laura, Jusis with Alisa and Gaius with Emma.. Sometimes I interchange Gaius with Fie tho This formula works perfect at least for myself.. This is my fav cast of characters in any rpg I've played at least thus far
Actually Laura is god tier. You forgot that food buffs that brings ur CP maximum. The last boss lost within minutes without getting a hit..poor boss lol.
What makes Machias so obscenely broken in the first two games is that one quartz which name I've completely forgotten, but that gives you two extra turns, so cast it, accelerate the party, cast it again, use food/items that give cp and spam S-Crafts like there is no tomorrow. It's equall genius and lame, but a decent strategy if you really can't win against a boss otherwise.
Haha I love Laura. I just follow the forums my friend. I think she sacrifices more utility for in order to be a beast at attacking. But the characters above her can get close to her attack range while bringing in other uses. But hey, that's just how tier list work. Thanks for the support!

I was about to say, she’s too low on this list. I do get why she isn’t the best on the team since she’s among the worst when it comes to Magic...but I felt she was too low.
I'm still fairly new to this game and only on like the beginning of chapter 3 but I'm loving it so far, but I have a question. When I'm this early in the game is it possible to increase fie's evasion rate to more than 10 percent? She still has the highest evasion out of all my character (obviously), but I don't think i've actually found any quartz or items that would grant me greater evasion yet. I'm asking to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Is this dude hell bent on being against cute op characters? Laura is a beast. Shes strong enough to not even need arts and i cant remember the orb but there one where it double the attack on the first turn. I give her that too along with attack and defense ones. And shes great when she crits. I always attatch her with rean. Laura in my opinion is best girl of all. She cutest, good character to use, good story, and some of the best bonding scenes. I beat all four games with her. Gaius is another character i like in this game and the series. His high evasive in this game he almost never gets hit if u do him right. Always counters. And again alissa is one of my least favorite girls. I never use her and i always do fine in the games.
Absolute best team comp in trails one is Rean/Laura/Fie/Eliot(could sub Eliot for Emma or maybe Alisa) And Laura doesn’t need to tank if you have Fie so no need to buff def for her and if bosses or enemies in general are getting lots of magic casts you’re doing something wrong also Laura self buffs her own speed so that helps her out there Edit: also thru watching in the video if this guy is really a breaking and using all his CP that all his characters have NONE to use then I don’t think this guy should be advising anyone on how to play lol
Sorry. My main team was Laura, fie, Emma and Rean (sometimes Machias for laura). I barely thought about boss fights after optimizing them. So...totally disagree with you. I never even used Alisa at all.
Millium does more dmg than any of them and hits everything. Not sure why she gets overlooked when her Atk is comparable but her S-Craft multiplier is higher. Nothing like 1 shotting cryptids on nightmare. Also her regular crafts are comparable in dmg, but have greater aoe, higher faint chances, less cp cost and she gets it earlier. Laura beats Millium in ToCS3, but Gaius ends up passing up everyone. Laura is just doomed to be 2nd place.
Putting Giaus above Millium in CS1 is hilarious. There's a reason the speedrun uses Millium as soon as she's available, every time she's available. I don't even like Millium as a character, but I can admit she's just the best damage dealer in class VII.
emma is not good. She's even slower than laura (since casting takes longer than attacking), and the power of her artes is only slightly higher than Elliott, or even Alisa's.. In fact, you neglected that Alisa makes a great caster because her ats is only slightly lower than emma/elliott, but her speed is quite high, giving her the opportunity to do full area artes nukes before many enemies can even move (Emma can't). Oh, and Elliot's resounding beat is super amazing late game, not just early game. Giving your party members a defense buff with a 30% max hp healed per turn for 4 turns.. how does something that scales with max hp not be good end game? Does Gaius even have evasion? I don't remember him having any beyond the quartz he happens to be wearing by default? Good job with Fie though, she deserves the top spot the most IMO. Another one of her strengths (shared with some others, mostly macchias) is her quartz slot arrangement has many rows. Many rows was bad in sky and zero/azure, but in Cold steel, it's a good thing for attackers (like fie), because you can put a bunch of high end status infliction quartz, and lots of fie's crafts ALSO inflicts status ailments, combine that w ith her high speed, and crafts that affect large areas at cheap cp-costs.... She's like a Final Fantasy Malboro where the nemies are bumbling around blind, paralyzed, frozen, on fire, and confused before their first move. It's gold!
No character has any super advantage towards evasion Fie starts with 5% but still needs the entire set up to get 100%. So as long as you can fit the colored quartz anyone can be an evasion tank, it is not something unique to fie. Cs2 and onward give her a ranged retaliation which pushes her as the main evasion tank but cs1 is missing that feature.
I remember my first playthrough Fie being complete and utter useless crap... The weakest attacks of them all and hit with every status condition available before she even made her first move - if she even made a move and didn't miss. I tried to give her better equipment and quartz, I tried looking up guides but I guess I must have been the most unlucky player ever. After a while I just got so frustrated with her I never used her again and just dragged her along. She was better in the 2nd game but that image of how useless she was before had already been ingrained in my brain and I still found it hard trusting her with any battle.
The best mage is the one with the most utility. Slightly higher magic stat counts for almost nothing in these games, which is why Emma is not good at all. A good waifu =/= a strong character. Elliot, Alisa and Jusis all have reasons to recommend them as mages over Emma. Emma having slightly higher magic is ultra pointless because the biggest damage increases come from the build and not the base.
Rean - Alisa - Elliot or Laura - Fie. Emma dies all the time, not enough def, too slow. Jusis is useless. Gaius is ok but average. Crow is good. Millium is ok. Machias is weak but useful as back up. Alisa was definitely the strongest with Rean. Equipped with Megalith, use 200 S-craft at the beginning of each battle and controlled the field throughout the whole fights, attacking, using offensive arts, healing, she can do it all. She's ultra fast and has a wide range

First - Speed is king. You mentioned equiping speed orbs as some slight to chars. Wrong. It’s ok to go for Speed quartz, moreover - you definitely should go for it. Stat priority should always be : Hit>Speed>>>Attack. Who cares about Def/ADF - if you know what you’re doing you don’t need defence. My top team for Trails I&II is super fast, delay based combo that If they want to - can take car of most enemies without giving them even a single turn (I’m looking at you Cryptids - downed waay below recommended lvl). For ToSC I - we need : - Rean (delayer/DD) - works great with either Vermillion or Tauros. If you want to play more crit based build Murakano is great choice too. - Insert 2nd good DD here - Laura, Fie, can be Gaius. In ToSCII it was Sara. Basically someone who can dish good numbers is fine here. Laura was my favourite because of nice crafts and high damage, but Fie can work well too (and with her speed she can trigger ‘stronger’ DD with Tauros/Vermillion more often). Gaius on the other hand (with Alisa’s help) can spam S-Crafts nearly every turn. Take your pick. - 3rd spot goes to Alisa. Her craft is so broken she makes other healers redundant. Not to mention - it also recovers cp… Damn girl… - 4th spot goes to Jusis. He is party buffer. Sometimes he can cast Platinium Shield, but for majority of time just spam Noble Command. There - my favourite team. Jusis will make them fully buffed, strong and fast. Alisa will make sure any damage is healed/cp recovered. Two other DD can either nuke enemies (which is best tactic 99% of time) or delay them almost indefinitely. On the sidenote - don’t be afraid of Tauros. If you go for speed build - character will not be very slow, and (mindblowing info) - you can switch links during fight. Meaning - you can always switch link of active person so it’s linked with Tauros char. That can trigger huge damage almost every turn. Ofc keep in mind that on higher lvls food buffs are great help. I just bought and started the game a few days ago. Took Emma, Fie, Alisa, Machias, and Laura in to school floor 3, but have not been using Laura. Seems I picked up on the "top tier" characters naturally.
And My team is “ Rean-Eliot-Loli-Emma-Fie-Alisa “ :v i think That Loli use very well, she can stun and str dow the enermy ez, her str and def high, so i dont think she is bad char.
if rean not in top tier then the producer of the game make a bad game and when he said stop when tank want to launch the weapon in my mind after know rean have hidden power (he will use that power to stop the bullet xD)
For females, hard to pick one but Alisa is my go girl. Unlike males every girl character is top notch imo. For males, Rean, Jusis and Gaius(I like this dude's design) all amazing. Elliot is meh, he's in the middle. He's very friendly but kinda timid and gets shadowed by Alisa when it comes to gameplay imo. I don't like Machias though. He's stubborn, sensitive and spiteful. The things you go through to change this guy's mentality is insane.
Emma pissed me off the most. She hid everything, she acts like our friend, everyone pouring their life story and she hides everything. It was irritating, and shes NOT so great personality wise compared to any of the other girls.
I didn't like her either after CS1. Everyone shared their big secrets, but not her. Pissed me off. Play CS2 though, she's aware of it, and is very remorseful, so I forgave her =P. I still like her the least of all the girls though.
Damn, not everyone has to pour out their soul, especially since Celine specifically said at one point that Emma shouldn’t have even told them that she’s a witch. I’m assuming it’s a secret society for a reason.
Ghaleon yeah I agree with you guys, she’s MUCH better after the first game. But even after she doesn’t really play a major part in her personality, outside of being a witch and a friend. I just dont’ see the whole “She’s wifu of all wifu” is all lol I love ALL the characters! SO MUCH! Espeically the new class 7!
Chapter 5 of CSI especially really pissed me off. The way she was written made it very hard to trust her or sympathise with her. She might have had her reasons but you can only go so long acting innocent and ignorant when it's so blatant how much she is hiding. She felt manipulative almost. Not a hit against her character, just how it came across at the moment.
I dunno, Laura utterly destroyed EVERYTHING in the game when I used her and with relative ease.

Millium is way better as an S breaker because her S craft is the best in the game bar Rean in SU.
She’s definitely has one of the highest attack powers in the game
The only true way to play Cold Steel is through abusing delay so that enemies rarely even get a chance to attack

@@gabrielike1370 Chrono Burst, Noble Command. You now have a party of beasts. He's far from trash lol, he makes everyone better just by being around. His speed is good too, which is one of the most important stats in the game. He also has an AoE craft guard.
Noble command all the way against isra zamiel the hardest cryptid, no turn for it.. Helps a lot for delayer like gaius rean fie xd
Alisa is the best support character in the game.
Rean, Alisa, Emma, Fie best party for me. Although people need to keep in mind, for most of the series you're limited in who you can choose.
Evade-Fie literally breaks CS1 and CS2; paired with Emma for her Arts Immunity skill, your party is literally untouchable as the AI will always focus the closest character (which should always be Fie). Now have Rean throw out Arc Slashes, and Alisa for CP regen, and your party is basically set. Laura is the only one you can justify swapping in, replacing Emma once you get the quartz that gives Arts immunity, as a pure S-Break spammer (thanks to Alisa's CP regen) as her S-Crafts can absolutely nuke even endgame bosses.
Not in CS1. Fie has no ranged counter at that point.
I simp for Laura, she's all I think about when playing trails of cold steel.
My go to team was Rean, Fie, Elliot, and Jusis. Wrecked and survived pretty much everything
I'm a Laura fan. She's my bae. Also, I tend to use evasion and crescent moon to help mitigate her weaknesses. Generally, I honestly don't think there's a bad character. You just need to build a party that can cover each other.
Emma is bae, originally when I first started the game I loved Laura, but after a 2nd play through it changed to Emma.
Laura doesn't NEED a 2nd turn. I use her, Rean, Emma and Alisa. Laura and Emma rain pain all day while Rean delay locks everything into oblivion. Don't need Machias to accelerate if the monsters never get their first turn.
Kudos on selecting the correct best waifu, though.
my main team was Rean-Laura and Jusis-Emma. I don't know it seams to me they compliment each other very well
ADF is literally most useless stat in the game due Impede existence. Also due the fact that there is almost no one who uses somewhat dangerous arts through the game. Maybe Zephyrantes, but those things are so slow that not impeding them is just ridiculous.
Also people tend to forget that Gaius one of the best disablers in the game. His 4 line setup allows for stacking of all status effect quartz + his Impede and Blind crafts that severely cripple enemy as well. (fie heave same 4 lines but she have 30% chance on her blinds and seals - Gaius have 50% also gaius can refill his CP if needed)
Also if you put fie on top spot as evasion tank - do not forget that same setup can be done for literally any character. 2 Evergreens+Evade quartz +MQ + Insight = 100% evade on anyone all advantage that fie have is initial 5% evade bonus which is really insignificant. Actually building Laura or Gaius into evade with strength can be even better since iirc Fie do not use her guns as counter till CS2 so her range is limited. and even then low str stat makes counters quite weak + high speed makes insight buff go away quickly demanding your time for recasts.

If you build evasion Queen Fie based on Insight, you are doing it wrong. Insightless evasion tank can be built up to 95% in my case, and since im making her crit counter char and speedy girl with Murakumo MQ and that crit quartz every counter you made, she still better than Gaius and Laura which should just focus on either mass debuff or an absolute mob slaughter.
Also in CS1 i built evasion Rean since Fie counter is too short, i found her evasion counter in CS2 is a bless.
@Nogi Sonoko In cold steel 1 if you want to build counter then Laura and Gaius are better options due to high reach. also i like your story about no insight 95% evade. It is reachable sure but only for the last dungeon evade1+evade2+Aeolus+MQ+2 Evergreens+ zemurian weapon+best evade shoes+best evade armor is 5+10+10+10+10+10+15+10+10 which is 90% Female characters do not have +10% evade shoes so -5% to them. Also lets add the fact that zemurian weapon and Aeolus quartz are only available in the final dungeon. so that is -20% more for the most of the game. and so what do we see there? 90-25 = 65% of realistic non insight evade.
@@Istalior The one i mentioned earlier is for TOCS 2, though my current built with her makes me lose 10% of evasion since i want higher critical Fie which makes her current evasion at 85% in the very last dungeon. Never reach 70% evasion without insight Fie in TOCS 1 due to limitations. I should have clear that up first.

Emma's best girl, so you got that right. And it's been a long time for me since CSI, but I still remember by late game, no one standing even a flicker of a prayer of keeping up with her damage output at that point. You're right she's a little slow (easily shored up with casting speed quartz and smart accessorizing) and a little squishy to physically attacks (easily shored up by making sure Fie's several spaces ahead of her). Well worth the devastating damage output.
This was a smart and well-thought out list imo. I mostly agreed with placements, and my party actually consisted of Rean, Machias, Fie, and Emma - for both CSI and II. Delay god, turn battery, support tank, support mage. Those four had no problems at all for me.
If you ever do CSII, I remember Emma being game-breakingly strong. I often say CSII Emma is the strongest character in the entire trails series. Rush: Lost art - fully recharge her ep - Lost art - and the fight - any fight - is over in one turn.

I just do what ever character I like the most been that way since the game I played were you can choose your party
Somehow, I don't know how anymore, I managed to make a tank out of Gaius during my first playthrough. He could withstand attacks that wiped out the rest of the team with no problem, he was the least effected by status conditions (and later not effected at all anymore since I gave him the according accessory) and he had the highest attack. His weak point were using arts though since he only had so few EP. But I'm not using arts that often anyways. I gave him Seraphic Ring so he could revive the entire party if necessary and that was basically the only art I used with him. During the other playthrough when I played in Nightmare mode and was struggling with the final boss (other party members always struggling to keep up Adamantine Shield or Crescent Mirror or healing each other and thus always running low on EP) I often let Gaius without any protective art shields because, well, he could take it. That guy was as hard to destroy as a Terminator.

What good is burst drive when Machius is so slow? And what good is Defense on a ranged fighter? He's never the one absorbing most of the damage. Fie is fantastic because she takes her high evasion stat strait to the front lines so the enemy starts trying to hit her first.
And Laura only needs one turn. One S-Craft equipped on the first turn equipped with with Domination and attack boosting quartz and Laura slays anything. Both early and late game. Emma by comparison is only that helpful at damage in the very late game when you get access to powerful damaging quartze.

Since you said this is for endgame, you just need 3 delayer + alisa. Among those 3 must include rean since we cant swap him out. Other 2 can be fie which also works as eva tank and millium/gaius. I prefer millium for higher atk and larger range.
Heck even the boss immune to delay, you still can work with this setup since all the dps are ranged with craft.
And rean not on godtier is just one crazy idea since you said it yourself he can make the boss not getting even a single turn

As someone who picked up the game a week ago and is already on Chapter 6(that should tell you what I think about it lol) I gotta agree with the majority that you’re criminally underrating Laura. If you’re at any point fighting something that’s not a boss(and even some bosses) and you NEED a second turn from Laura, your party is either weak or unoptimized.
Also disagree with Machias being rated so highly because you have to invest entirely too much into him to get him to that point, so much so that I’m amazed people don’t completely bench him by chapter 4 but that’s just me lol. I could bring up a few more points about Gaius and Elliot but nothing that I would consider tier changing for them
Laura does not need second turn of she have no turn in battle at all, heh. I could make a one shot Laura by making everyone buffing her like crazy but i dont think that was fun at all.

I think Laura should in higher rank than millium, my main problem with millium is her very low speed, while laura is a better, and laura is very simple to use, give her insight, atk boost, and she's ready to split anything into 2, she's a anti tank material rifle, while millium feels like the railgun, high damage but very low fire rate
also point of consideration, laura is easier to use to stun an enemy before fight since her attack animation is quicker than millium
Machias was my one-man army on my first playthrough when I insisted on toughing it out after everyone else bit the dust instead of being normal and buying balms :) xD

Laura can one shot most enemies and several bosses.
Just stack everyone else with delay and she’ll kill everything before they even get a turn.
Does it even matter though? Aside from nightmare ng early game before you get the broken skills the game is easy with any combination of characters.
All of the coldsteel games suffer this mechanic overload where all the new things aren't accounted for in terms of balance.
Most noticeable in cs3 with orders.
Status quartz stacking is also very broken for any non boss encounter.

Anyway, fie and machias were the reason I finally got the game after eyeing it for a long time. Then I saw Emma' s craft and voice in the tutorial and I thought I had to keep her. And Alisa just have a very cute design and a wep I like. Glad they will be very good lol. I'll keep elliot on stanby for tough encounters. Thanks for the vid!
Laura is the best damage dealer other than Sara. Both deal monster damage. Pump their speed so they get more turns. Millium is another candidate for best damage dealer if you don't want to run Laura. BTW, ADF doesn't matter on your damage dealer. The only thing that matters is getting turns and dealing damage. Whoever your damage dealer is, you want to buff their speed. Laura provides a massive return on investment if you can just get her speed up a little. It doesn't matter if your damage dealer gets killed instantly by the boss. You just bring them back up with a revive and they take a turn like nothing happened.
Fie is the best dodge tank/front line fighter. She can hit 100% evasion and becomes immune to most attacks at that point. Link her with a physical fighter so she gets linked counters and builds the damage dealer's CP.
Best mage changes depending where you are in the game. A lot of characters go through peaks and valleys in this game based on what tools they have access to. Early game best mage is Elliot because Resounding Beat is almost required. You have so few tools and Elliot keeps your entire party up. But he tapers off eventually and becomes less broken but still good. Best endgame mage is probably Jusis because of Noble Command. A lot of people think Rean is good simply because of Motivate spam. Well, Jusis has something even better. Mistal/Pandora and he'll do insanely high damage just like all the other mages at endgame. Plus he can deal physical damage if you need it. Emma is good in CS2 because of magic shell. I don't recall needing magic shell spam (to counter cryptid magic spam) in CS1 though. All of the mages do similar damage with the right setup, so it's really about their Crafts and what you want them to do outside of magic. Jusis or maybe Alisa have the most utility outside of magic.
Other characters:
Alisa is a good support character if you rely on using S-Crafts a lot, like in a speedrun setting. I still think she's a little frail and would rather build my team to not need her in the first place. IF you build her as a dedicated mage, to take the place of the other mages, then she's probably top tier alongside Jusis.
Giaus is a mediocre dodge tank with more damage. He's extra-mediocre in CS2 because he doesn't get the dodge buff that Fie does.
Macchius is awful in the beginning, becomes a beast once he unlocks Petrification Shell, then becomes mediocre once enemies gain petrify resistance. Accelerate is good, but the problem at endgame is just how much more broken every other character becomes. I don't need Accelerate if I have time mage Rean getting a million turns and casting speed up spells with motivate and chrono burst.
Crow is a great all-around character, but not worth investing in. He's good to throw in your party if you don't have a fully-optimized 4-person setup yet.
I like to build Rean as a speed abuse character with impede, Raven, action 3, action 2 etc. He's a strong support character and helps plug gaps in a team. IMO he's mediocre as a damage dealer or mage and unsuitable as a tank. I also like Juggler on him. He uses a lot of aoe crafts and status elements are strong.
All of the characters have a certain broken use once you find it. I did 100% this game. But I just *really* wish they’d made you able to turn off battle voices. Hearing “MY TURN…it’s MY turn!” Over…and over…and over. Every. Single. Turn. Just about drove me over the damn edge. 😂
Every cold steel are so easy to break to be honest that i don't really find a tierlist useful.
Just put fie as a tank with max avoid.

You put laura down for low speed and low adf, but then put emma higher despite having those same issues but even worse. And when you consider that impede kinda invalidates all magic from enemies in this game, and the fact that you can't really insta cast in the first game without kitting out heavily on bells and cast 3, kinda hard to justify the disparity.

ADF doesn't even matter in this game because of how the game systems work. Bosses have to take turns in order to kill you and they have to take even more turns to cast spells. A proper build using Laura kills everything on the first or second of her turns.
The team I used in the final boss was rean fie Machias and alisa machias spammed burst drive and alisa restored everyone’s CP While rean and fie Stayed in the front lines evading everything that came their way while spamming s crafts

Let's see I play as Rean with Jusis as my right hand man.. The guy is good at everything lol After that as far as the men it's Gaius.. Top 3 women are Alisa, Laura & Emma.. I usually pair Rean with Laura, Jusis with Alisa and Gaius with Emma.. Sometimes I interchange Gaius with Fie tho This formula works perfect at least for myself.. This is my fav cast of characters in any rpg I've played at least thus far

Actually Laura is god tier. You forgot that food buffs that brings ur CP maximum. The last boss lost within minutes without getting a hit..poor boss lol.
Millium's speed doesn't matter when you just s-break oneshot everything (literally everything, no exceptions) in the game on Nightmare.
What makes Machias so obscenely broken in the first two games is that one quartz which name I've completely forgotten, but that gives you two extra turns, so cast it, accelerate the party, cast it again, use food/items that give cp and spam S-Crafts like there is no tomorrow. It's equall genius and lame, but a decent strategy if you really can't win against a boss otherwise.
You have a personal problem with Laura man. She is a real TANK !!! with incredible strenght, in this game as in the second too !!!
Haha I love Laura. I just follow the forums my friend. I think she sacrifices more utility for in order to be a beast at attacking. But the characters above her can get close to her attack range while bringing in other uses. But hey, that's just how tier list work. Thanks for the support!

I'm still fairly new to this game and only on like the beginning of chapter 3 but I'm loving it so far, but I have a question. When I'm this early in the game is it possible to increase fie's evasion rate to more than 10 percent? She still has the highest evasion out of all my character (obviously), but I don't think i've actually found any quartz or items that would grant me greater evasion yet. I'm asking to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Man, Jusis was my support in endgame party. Laura was my mob sweeper. But I could rate Millium in s**t tier.

Is this dude hell bent on being against cute op characters? Laura is a beast. Shes strong enough to not even need arts and i cant remember the orb but there one where it double the attack on the first turn. I give her that too along with attack and defense ones. And shes great when she crits. I always attatch her with rean. Laura in my opinion is best girl of all. She cutest, good character to use, good story, and some of the best bonding scenes. I beat all four games with her. Gaius is another character i like in this game and the series. His high evasive in this game he almost never gets hit if u do him right. Always counters. And again alissa is one of my least favorite girls. I never use her and i always do fine in the games.

Absolute best team comp in trails one is Rean/Laura/Fie/Eliot(could sub Eliot for Emma or maybe Alisa)
And Laura doesn’t need to tank if you have Fie so no need to buff def for her and if bosses or enemies in general are getting lots of magic casts you’re doing something wrong also Laura self buffs her own speed so that helps her out there

Sorry. My main team was Laura, fie, Emma and Rean (sometimes Machias for laura). I barely thought about boss fights after optimizing them. So...totally disagree with you. I never even used Alisa at all.

Millium does more dmg than any of them and hits everything. Not sure why she gets overlooked when her Atk is comparable but her S-Craft multiplier is higher. Nothing like 1 shotting cryptids on nightmare. Also her regular crafts are comparable in dmg, but have greater aoe, higher faint chances, less cp cost and she gets it earlier. Laura beats Millium in ToCS3, but Gaius ends up passing up everyone. Laura is just doomed to be 2nd place.
Putting Giaus above Millium in CS1 is hilarious. There's a reason the speedrun uses Millium as soon as she's available, every time she's available. I don't even like Millium as a character, but I can admit she's just the best damage dealer in class VII.

@@Crimsonfangg I noticed Gaius got a massive buff in CS3. He was doing nearly Sara-level damage with no Taurus and spitting out status effects on top.

emma is not good. She's even slower than laura (since casting takes longer than attacking), and the power of her artes is only slightly higher than Elliott, or even Alisa's.. In fact, you neglected that Alisa makes a great caster because her ats is only slightly lower than emma/elliott, but her speed is quite high, giving her the opportunity to do full area artes nukes before many enemies can even move (Emma can't). Oh, and Elliot's resounding beat is super amazing late game, not just early game. Giving your party members a defense buff with a 30% max hp healed per turn for 4 turns.. how does something that scales with max hp not be good end game?
Does Gaius even have evasion? I don't remember him having any beyond the quartz he happens to be wearing by default?
Good job with Fie though, she deserves the top spot the most IMO. Another one of her strengths (shared with some others, mostly macchias) is her quartz slot arrangement has many rows. Many rows was bad in sky and zero/azure, but in Cold steel, it's a good thing for attackers (like fie), because you can put a bunch of high end status infliction quartz, and lots of fie's crafts ALSO inflicts status ailments, combine that w ith her high speed, and crafts that affect large areas at cheap cp-costs.... She's like a Final Fantasy Malboro where the nemies are bumbling around blind, paralyzed, frozen, on fire, and confused before their first move. It's gold!
No character has any super advantage towards evasion Fie starts with 5% but still needs the entire set up to get 100%. So as long as you can fit the colored quartz anyone can be an evasion tank, it is not something unique to fie.
Cs2 and onward give her a ranged retaliation which pushes her as the main evasion tank but cs1 is missing that feature.

I remember my first playthrough Fie being complete and utter useless crap... The weakest attacks of them all and hit with every status condition available before she even made her first move - if she even made a move and didn't miss. I tried to give her better equipment and quartz, I tried looking up guides but I guess I must have been the most unlucky player ever. After a while I just got so frustrated with her I never used her again and just dragged her along. She was better in the 2nd game but that image of how useless she was before had already been ingrained in my brain and I still found it hard trusting her with any battle.
The best mage is the one with the most utility. Slightly higher magic stat counts for almost nothing in these games, which is why Emma is not good at all. A good waifu =/= a strong character. Elliot, Alisa and Jusis all have reasons to recommend them as mages over Emma. Emma having slightly higher magic is ultra pointless because the biggest damage increases come from the build and not the base.

Emma dies all the time, not enough def, too slow. Jusis is useless. Gaius is ok but average. Crow is good. Millium is ok. Machias is weak but useful as back up.
Alisa was definitely the strongest with Rean. Equipped with Megalith, use 200 S-craft at the beginning of each battle and controlled the field throughout the whole fights, attacking, using offensive arts, healing, she can do it all. She's ultra fast and has a wide range

Completed wholeTrails of the Cold Steel series on Nightmare (still waiting for Hajimari). My list is completely different.
First - Speed is king. You mentioned equiping speed orbs as some slight to chars. Wrong. It’s ok to go for Speed quartz, moreover - you definitely should go for it. Stat priority should always be : Hit>Speed>>>Attack. Who cares about Def/ADF - if you know what you’re doing you don’t need defence.
My top team for Trails I&II is super fast, delay based combo that If they want to - can take car of most enemies without giving them even a single turn (I’m looking at you Cryptids - downed waay below recommended lvl).
For ToSC I - we need :
- Rean (delayer/DD) - works great with either Vermillion or Tauros. If you want to play more crit based build Murakano is great choice too.
- Insert 2nd good DD here - Laura, Fie, can be Gaius. In ToSCII it was Sara. Basically someone who can dish good numbers is fine here. Laura was my favourite because of nice crafts and high damage, but Fie can work well too (and with her speed she can trigger ‘stronger’ DD with Tauros/Vermillion more often). Gaius on the other hand (with Alisa’s help) can spam S-Crafts nearly every turn. Take your pick.
- 3rd spot goes to Alisa. Her craft is so broken she makes other healers redundant. Not to mention - it also recovers cp… Damn girl…
- 4th spot goes to Jusis. He is party buffer. Sometimes he can cast Platinium Shield, but for majority of time just spam Noble Command.
There - my favourite team. Jusis will make them fully buffed, strong and fast. Alisa will make sure any damage is healed/cp recovered. Two other DD can either nuke enemies (which is best tactic 99% of time) or delay them almost indefinitely.
On the sidenote - don’t be afraid of Tauros. If you go for speed build - character will not be very slow, and (mindblowing info) - you can switch links during fight. Meaning - you can always switch link of active person so it’s linked with Tauros char. That can trigger huge damage almost every turn.
Ofc keep in mind that on higher lvls food buffs are great help.

I just bought and started the game a few days ago. Took Emma, Fie, Alisa, Machias, and Laura in to school floor 3, but have not been using Laura. Seems I picked up on the "top tier" characters naturally.

For females, hard to pick one but Alisa is my go girl. Unlike males every girl character is top notch imo.
For males, Rean, Jusis and Gaius(I like this dude's design) all amazing. Elliot is meh, he's in the middle. He's very friendly but kinda timid and gets shadowed by Alisa when it comes to gameplay imo. I don't like Machias though. He's stubborn, sensitive and spiteful. The things you go through to change this guy's mentality is insane.
I'm sure if this was anime, Elliot will be trap, machias is high temper but better later, I like him most using Taurus master quartz

Emma pissed me off the most. She hid everything, she acts like our friend, everyone pouring their life story and she hides everything. It was irritating, and shes NOT so great personality wise compared to any of the other girls.
I didn't like her either after CS1. Everyone shared their big secrets, but not her. Pissed me off. Play CS2 though, she's aware of it, and is very remorseful, so I forgave her =P. I still like her the least of all the girls though.
Damn, not everyone has to pour out their soul, especially since Celine specifically said at one point that Emma shouldn’t have even told them that she’s a witch. I’m assuming it’s a secret society for a reason.
Ghaleon yeah I agree with you guys, she’s MUCH better after the first game. But even after she doesn’t really play a major part in her personality, outside of being a witch and a friend. I just dont’ see the whole “She’s wifu of all wifu” is all lol I love ALL the characters! SO MUCH! Espeically the new class 7!
Chapter 5 of CSI especially really pissed me off. The way she was written made it very hard to trust her or sympathise with her. She might have had her reasons but you can only go so long acting innocent and ignorant when it's so blatant how much she is hiding. She felt manipulative almost.
Not a hit against her character, just how it came across at the moment.
