I wish their concert's were better mixed..it's all highs and no bass..the balance is horrendous, which was definitely not the case when I saw them in 2016. Since then, terrible...really a shame for such a technical band
7:22 is probably my favorite part of the studio track, and it all has to do with the way Petrucci bends the notes just right. I'm really glad he is able to do it so well live, also!
Oh boy... the groove, the energy, the faith they still have. If that isn't proof that each musician has the power to pull the others up or down... Even if Portnoy was getting lazy (playing the ride bow instead of the bell) what a freaking groove all along. And live backup singing! DT really has become a half-decent cover band of their former self.
This song is great. I was there in the concert. When the song begin me and my friends are talking about "wth how this song gonna end" and there u go Definitely one of the greatest moment in my life.
I noticed they skipped the whole verse where he just wails out the high pitched vocals. I will forever miss Old LaBrie, but rejoice that he is still around and he still sounds great, just not where he used to be. But damn that verse was my favorite one! "Unbroken spirit, obscured and disquiet Finds clearness this trial demands And at the end of this day sighs an anxious relief For the fortune lies still in his hands"
@@ankihansen2489 That is one of the most challenging vocal parts to sing. He was around 20 when he first recorded that. This is a good 18 years later. You can hate on his style but when you're that old, you'll be lucky to even hit a C1.
@@Bat-Georgi While I agreed with your sentiment perhaps you meant a C5? James couldn't hit a C1 in his prime due to is being way lower than most people can sing. Cheers!
The entire song is phenomenal, one of my all time favorites, but that (seemingly) improvised ending is worth a million bucks. I love Portnoy's cutting sign at the end - call it an end, guys? Superb!
You should see the Live in Tokyo version from 1993. granted, it was before labrie's vocal poisoning, and they were all younger, and well, just check it out haha
Iam listining three years and not only this song but many more perfect sound oLf guitar drums piano... and one and only singer J LB Incredible Petrucci bass guitar and perfect Rudess hello from croatia all over the world DT fans peace
I am listining dt over three years and nothing else but incredible sound of great mix of drums bas guitar electric guitar and ine and only rudess and vocal and petrucci and........... hy from croatia all dt fans all over the world
@@BirbarianHomeGuard friend, every live recording is corrected in studio. The fact they perfected James's voice in some songs is completely normal, and doesn't change the fact that it was his best tour. I saw him here in brazil and my God, what a performance. If you want to listen to him singing with no correction search for "in the land of the myungs", ;). (I'm talking about score the hole time)
Man, I didn't realize it back then, but the pitch correct / autotune on James' vocals on this release in particular is so HARSH and radical. You actually hear how single notes and glitches are literally "snapped" between the transition of two notes. To be clear: I am fine with artists cleaning up the vocals a bit before a live release, I just think whoever did it here put all the software's dials on 100% and left for an extended pastrami sandwich break.
The most important thing is not that they are all masters in their instruments but that they really enjoy and are purely happy to play their respective instruments! This is not so foregone in so much musicians! LOVE WITH ALL YOUR FUCKIN BODY YOUR INSTRUMENT OR GO AWAY
they made fantastic songs in their new album, I think all of the songs in the album was a great hit for me, a slightly different tone but still as good as their other older albums.
Amazing performance. Jordan was great. I can't believe some people still make comments about Kevin Moore, it's been over 20 years since he's not in the band, for fuck sake people, get over it already!!!!
Yonatan Kalis "The Only song that He Wrote Was Space Dye Vest" Uhh this is inaccurate, that's the only song he solely composed. Early DT albums were much more collaborative and every member contributed to the writing process. "Moore had no soul he Played like a Freaking Robot" Being stiff and serious during a live performance doesn't mean he has no soul ffs. Older DT material had much more character, especially compared to the dull as fuck modern DT stuff. I'm a big fan of Rudess so you're complaining to the wrong guy, but I can understand why people yearn for Kevin Moore. He's still composing more moody material nowadays, like his work in OSI with Jim Matheos
Jordan actually sounds a lot like Kevin on all "Kevin Songs". I mean he tries, and suceeds, to play the closest to what Kevin played back then. Of course some shit is different because they're different players, but the essence is there. I can't say the same when it comes to Portnoy/Mangini.
0:50 Petrucci's volume pedal is on his ear.
Hahahaha
I was very nearly in tears
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
hahahahahaha.....
Amplifon
I love how loud the bass is in this recording.
That 18v Bongo !!!!
One of my fave mix of DT. Balanced and raw...
Bcos u r a bassist... 😆 😆
Acrylic bass drums do wonders for volume
I wish their concert's were better mixed..it's all highs and no bass..the balance is horrendous, which was definitely not the case when I saw them in 2016. Since then, terrible...really a shame for such a technical band
great thing about this version is that it actually has an ending, not just being faded out during one of the most catchy solos ever.
Can't exactly fade out on stage.
All the live version has this lol
@@aolson1111true 😂😂😂😂
this is the best mix I've ever heard of DT.. finally I get to hear Myung slap his thing

Portnoy should've continued until high notes in "I think it's time for a chaaaaaaaaaaangeeeeeeeeeee.....!!"
LOL
Ulyan Khalif 😂
My absolute favorite dream theater song of all time :D
at 11:03 Mike is like "OK that's enough guys, lets end this"
Masterpiece
Labrie had a great night. Probably one of the best nights post 2005
This song is great.
I was there in the concert. When the song begin me and my friends are talking about
"wth how this song gonna end" and there u go
Definitely one of the greatest moment in my life.
You can see that John was inspired by the lyrics and “took the time” with the outro solo on this live version.
1:15 James actually hitting that high note... He doesn't do that often
9:19 when you are expecting that the song will end, but it cant stop...And mike looks like he says "OHH GOD!!, THAT'S ENOUGH..LETS END THIS SOOONNGG"
Every singer has to evolve. We all get older. JL sounds pretty good here. Awesome live rendition.
great labrie performance !
I noticed they skipped the whole verse where he just wails out the high pitched vocals. I will forever miss Old LaBrie, but rejoice that he is still around and he still sounds great, just not where he used to be. But damn that verse was my favorite one!

Where is the "Unbroken spirit...." part? It is one of the best parts of the song.
Right?! Totally ruined this tune by taking away that verse that is the best part of the song!
+Madmok128 agreed, it must be because the notes were too high for Labrie.
+Dylan Gordon fuck LAbrie he sucks

Petrucci insane shredding as usual
Great to see that James had his voice back by this time!
Holy Shit Man! The voice of LaBrie is wonderful!
Mike Portnoy is badass!
Dream Theater without him is not a complete band.
FABULOUS!! Love this song SO MUCH!!
4:35 J. K. Simmons on keyboards
The best of Dream Theater's times! 👍🏻✨
how have only around 19 thousand people seen this. this is probably the best live performance ive seen. ever

Best perfomance of this song ever!!!

Petrucci looks so badass in this video. Now he’s just a bizarre creature lol
Jp. You are a god🤘
6.15 so beautiful harmony
Favorite DT song
I think this is the best “Take The Time” performance evahhhhhhhh
Just amazing this performance !!!!
Talking about time signatures !!!!
I hate how they skip the second verse. :(
I think that James is not able to sing second verse
@@oczko3 Yep that was it. Still could have sung it in a lower pitch like lots of older singers do on their older tracks. Ray does it in Fates Warning

sooooo great !

great sound and performance

jesus labrie sounds strong after the solo!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to hear that bass volume in other recordings, really good song
so damn perfect, so little rock'n'roll. they stand there like advertising pillars. still impressively played
Simply the best live version of this song...
Without that "The unbroken spirit..." part? Hell nah
The best live version of this song is Live in Japan imo, Tokyo 1993 I believe
lol youre young
would be best if it was a complete version

love the last part of the song ...
