"SHARING THE MUSE" is a beautiful wrap up of a month-long series of the PUSHKIN-220 FEST events.
The idea of the program was born when two organizations - the PUSHKIN SOCIETY in AMERICA & the MEDTNER SOCIETY of KOREA - that shared the great love for Russian music - were inspired to collaborate... - And then it's Alexander Pushkin's 220th Birthday this year!
Actually, the joint project of the two societies was predestined way back in the 20th century, when the great Russian composer Nikolai MEDTNER (1880-1951) wrote his many gorgeous songs inspired by the poetry of Russia's most significant Golden age poet ALEXANDER PUSHKIN (1799-1837). Well, Pushkin was so significant that Golden Age of Russian poetry is also called the AGE of PUSHKIN! - WOW!
So, no wonder Pushkin’s legacy had a significant influence on many artists over the last three centuries - for many he was (and is) the MUSE. - Thus, "SHARING THE MUSE", btw.
"SHARING THE MUSE" highlights two of the composers who wrote on Pushkin's poems: Nikolai MEDTNER (1880-1951) and Georgy SVIRIDOV (1915-1998) - a legendary Soviet-time composer still largely unknown in the West. There'll be also our contemporary composer-pianist Nataliya MEDVEDOVSKAYA's song "Madonna" inspired by that same muse-poet. - And it's the NEW YORK PREMIER! YAY!
This collaboration between Russian and Korean musicians - Elena MINDLINA (soprano), Nataliya MEDVEDOVSKAYA (composer/pianist), and Haeshin SHIN (pianist) - also features mutually interpreted Korean art songs “New Arirang” and “Spinning Song” - it's the Medtner Society of Koria, afterall - as well as an American hit to honor the country of the artists' initial meeting.
Ah, yes... We do talk during this program... - Luckily, we are musicians that can talk! ;)
So, we share music, make clever connections between the pieces, and bring to you some really interesting facts.
