I saw black rain aged 12. I knew I was watching a genius at work for two reasons 1. the sports bikes wheel spinning and 2. the arthouse look in a commercial action movie both signposts of a rebel and maverick who had something to say visually.
I cant wait to see his next movie everytime! I love his photography style which is usually starts with a wide shot then goes in to zoom and better details!
Ridley Scott's just awesome. Awesome. His interviews are so rich and he gives so much attention to each question no matter how trivial they may be. He's like a great teacher or university lecturer. I could listen to him and Spielberg all day, they still have so much love for the craft. Both are geniuses and original and sadly both are a dying breed. Excluding a handful (Coens, Soderbergh, Fincher etc) every other director in Hollywood (particularly Nolan) is just a copycat.
Listen to Nolan interviews and you will also fully appreciate his clear love for the craft...The absolute care with which he handles each minute stage of the whole filmmaking process is something to behold. Whether it be technical or the way he prioritizes the story and characters and what drives them etc. I can honestly sit here and say Nolan's not made a bad film in his career, oh maybe that's just me. Him and Fincher are two of my favorites working today...along with Scorsese and Spielberg.
I am so excited for this fantastic project. I will be at the kick off tonight although Sir RS won t be there. Very curious to just look into this and be present. And to have these searchlab vids playing in my website so we can listen to this "JUST FUCKING DO IT" mastermind over and over again.Marvelous,wicked,inspiring.Adorable and almost cruel so sharp his blades are.Lol.Ridley @ heart. Cheers!
He's active, doesn't have enough time to wait for the age to kill him ;) But Ridley Scott is my favorite director, have produced movies I think are lovely, such as Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down... Body of Lies was an OK movie, not great but it was decent. Looking forward to Tripoli. Seems to be awesome! He said that "Crusades" are going through his head, what the--- He have only produced 1 movie about 'em and it was 4 years ago. Thanks for the video!
I agree, I actually think Nolan really loves himself and it's pretty annoying, his films don't have the extra "layer" the worldly feel that Ridley Scott's films do, a bunch of actors, buildings, props.. and no matter how good Nolan can get all of these aspects you can tell the actors are not absorbed into the world like Ridley's are.
this man is amazing. im so impressed with mr scott. though his math skills arent the best! 200 percent a year for 24 years. hehe, actually i did the math and its closer to 17.6 percent per year.
Ridley is the man. Great. Who is the female host of the video interview. She does a great job. Her name? Can't find it in the credits. Her name? Thank you.
@normansmother1 While I agree about your conclusions on Orlando Bloom (to a degree), I hope you're overall referring to the theatrical cut of Kingdom of Heaven. If so, you NEED to watch the Director's Cut. In my opinion, it puts the film head and shoulders above Gladiator.
Played it and hated it, but like everyone else, thought it would be a cool story to see in the big screen. I believe their were rumors that the game was in talks to be adapted into a movie. Anyways, yes needs more character. I felt that the story was rushed. His character arc changed so quickly.
Interesting Tid Bit.... Who directed TOP GUN? noooo not Micheal Bay... nooo... Jerry Bruchemier was Producer.. Hears a hint.... Riddley Scott's brother. YEP TONY SCOTT !.. now isnt it funny that such a great time honored blockbuster flick is so well know except for the person that directed it. When was the last time you even saw any documentary featuring tony scott about TOPGUN? amazing isnt it.
There is something profoundly wrong going on, when a lengthy and highly educational/interesting Ridley Scott interview receives comments related to computer games. Huh? You complete and absolute buffoons! Are you dolts even picking up some of the fabulous concepts and highly applicable lessons he's giving away for...umm...free!?
With a budget of 900.000 and doubling it for 22 years movies would costs (in average) 98477090218361123288100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 US Dollar! what the heck he was thinking saying that?
What a lovely interviewer and a great interview. Love some Ridley.
"The easiest way to make a great film, is to put something great in front of the lens". Sir Ridley Scott. 🎯
Rid's a BEAST.
Genius visualist. It's said he has the best eye in the film-making business.

sofia coppola is quite good too.
I cant wait to see his next movie everytime!
I love his photography style which is usually starts with a wide shot then goes in to zoom and better details!
he is my hero. i love his attitude, his work. he is true inspiration.
Looking forward to Prometheus 2... God bless you Sir Ridley Scott
Absolute legend, he doesn't put himself on a pedestal like other directors, sees it how it is.
Why are all these lectures in the wrong aspect ratio? I would think that a film studio like Fox Searchlight would be able to get that together.
Thanks for posting! These are so in-depth! A true Scott fans dream! 10/10 :D
I really like on his his DVD commentaries that hes just sitting there eating food with the mike on haha.
'This bit we shot..omnomnomnom...over 2 days'

One of favourite interview . Looking in from Ireland 🇮🇪
@TreyRoque your right he looks awesome for 70, lets hope he stays healthy and makes a lot more great movies
Your wish became true, he did
This is such an inspiring interview.
I just watched Kingdom of Heaven, one of the best period movies I have seen. I was searching for the history of Saladin when U tube showed this movie.

Visual genius. He has a great eye as he says.
Phenomenal director.

That's the guy who directed the original Alien film, which is a MASTERPIECE.

@directorlog a great memory usually comes if you're overall a visual person.
haha "Back off, you had it... right ?!". RIDLEY FTW!!!
this man is amazing. im so impressed with mr scott. though his math skills arent the best! 200 percent a year for 24 years. hehe, actually i did the math and its closer to 17.6 percent per year.
Best advice ever 0:00
Thanks, SIr Rid.
They didn't use any of the footage from the cameraman next to her!
hahahha!
"JUST FUCKING DO IT!!!!"

I think its his down to earth, yeah whatever lets just do it, Britishness.
Hi,
Does anybody know where the second part is?
I can not find it.
when was this filmed please?
He did a lot of ground work :-)
Ridley Scott was 39 or 40 when he did his first commercial feature, THE DUELISTS.
Does anyone know the name of the lady doing the interview?
By this point, he'd done about 7000 commercials
He actually stated that
You what he's about to say something epic because he said "...Just fuckin' doing it..."
This page lagged a bit when it opened so I was treated with Ridley saying "Just fucking do it" twice.
how do you mistake adoration with horniness?
Played it and hated it, but like everyone else, thought it would be a cool story to see in the big screen. I believe their were rumors that the game was in talks to be adapted into a movie. Anyways, yes needs more character. I felt that the story was rushed. His character arc changed so quickly.
Who isn't?
he doesnt answer his own question: why have movies budgets got sooo massive since the Duellists?
Interesting Tid Bit.... Who directed TOP GUN?
noooo not Micheal Bay... nooo... Jerry Bruchemier was Producer..
Hears a hint.... Riddley Scott's brother.
YEP TONY SCOTT !.. now isnt it funny that such a great time honored blockbuster flick is so well know except for the person that directed it.

I think she works for Fox.
shame hes not going to make another Alien movie after that bombshell AVP.
10:34 from amused to horrified!
That woman loves herself
If it IS rhetorical, I don't understand what point he is trying to make by it.
SCOTT *RULEZ*
***RIDLEY SCOTT***
@monteoner He told me twice. I had no choice. :(

If you didn't know Tony directed Top Gun - you don't know film making.
I can't believe that this is the man who filmed Blade Runner. What a letdown.
