The AVX has been my favorite ball for the past couple of years. I have always lost distance due to spin off the tee untill I started using the AVX. I also have no issues stopping it from mid range and short range. It just works for me. I'm ready for the new one too!
Ping Ballnamic recommended this ball for me, playing it and loving it. Cant find anything wrong with it. Your videos are great, thanks and cheers from Scottsdale, AZ - USA
I tested these about a month ago for titleist. I call them my dial a spin balls. They are branded "low spin" but I found they spin exactly what you put into them. I could spin a 56 from 6k to 9k depending on the shot. The 7 was from 57 to 75 but again responded to the shot I was trying to hit. The long irons and driver were on the lower side but constant. 3i was 28 and driver was 2k but both were fine because the ball responded perfectly to changes in launch angle. This one is a winner. Not too soft and not too hard, just right.
Great review James...I tried the AVX in the past and although a nice ball....I found that the Wilson Staff Duo Soft Spin was a much better ball for high to single digits player...It has it all, long, straight green side spin and cost is much better...However that being said...Wilson has taken this ball out off the market and move up to their Staff Model...Like all good things out there, you find something that works and the industry tries to goof it up......Good thing I bought 6 boxes when I did....Should last a few years...Thanks Guys, love your approach....
Titleist sent me these to test. Been testing last two weeks. Four rounds in. Not as springy of the putter face which was my biggest criticism on previous version. Aero dynamics much straighter (for me) and good feel. A few noticeables. Putts off a milled face roll and roll. The spin on most irons is more a drop and stop not a spin back. I really like it. I plan to test this weekend with prov1x. I could shape driver shots and trajectory window very consistent. Good out bunkers with normal roll out distances. Worth a look. Good durability.
I used the AVX last year round Axe Cliff in Devon, I'd certainly recommend them to anyone tbh, nobody in particular. I've been torn between the AVX though, and the RZN Tour Balls I'm currently using. I like a urethane ball with a kind of firmness that gives me feedback off the face without being overly firm or too squishy. Both fit this category for me
I like the lower ball flight. I live in Alaska and the extremely short summers can be pretty windy. However I don’t use the balls due to the ridiculous price.
The AVX has been my favourite ball for a few years now. It does everything well, is durable, and feels wonderful off the face. Did I mention, it's *LONG* too.
James, as you said it's not all about the driver so it would be interesting to see direct comparison between both your current balls and the new ones your testing. Also as above in the studio with mid irons and a wedge to give true comparisons across the bag, please.
I am moved into a VX about a year and a half ago and as it said here that’s money dude. Noticeably lower spin easier to get a penetrating ball flight into the wind and irons are just fine eight iron can still back up a foot or so wedges can still rip back Bump and run shots no problem In fact I don’t really notice any difference other than when driving the ball
AVX is my top choice of balls. Absolutely longer than Pro V and other premium balls with my swing. Given a choice, I would only play these. Since they so expensive, I play whatever premium balls I find
I got the test pack of the new AVXs, and tee to around the green was good. Around the green and putting I found them not spinning as much as a PROV1, and an almost complete marshmallow to putt with. I’ll stick with my PROV1s! I did also test the new Callaway Chrome Soft XLS, and I have to say it’s pretty close to a PROV1! Real close, still a touch firmer, but they’re really nice to play with.
I tried the AVX last summer, and liked it. I think it is designed for slower swing players (85-100 mph) which might explain why the TP5x went a hair longer. It sounds like they are making it more like the V1 with the additional green side spin. Have you tried it in yellow? Annecdotes suggest a yellow Prov1 has great durability.
I tried the AVX and while good, I'm going to stick with the Kirkland Signature V3.2. There's nothing more than I want from a ball... the price doesn't hurt either
@@mikehoffman7131 for almost everyone lmao it’s ball characteristics not personal opinion. I’ve tested almost every ball from pro v / tp5x / maxfli tour x/ Kirkland / Bridgestone / vice etc .. extensively on the launch monitor and the Kirkland had more severe spin characteristics and flew shorter than all the major brands. Even the mygolfspy ball reviews said so. But go ahead I’m sure ur eyeball test on the course is better
The AVX has ALWAYS been a soft ball. The first model wasn't great but the 2020 is - lovely soft feel and plenty spin around the greens. Titleist claiming the same improvements for the 22 ball that they did for the 20 ball. Odd. I suspect they're quite similar.
Chris Dennis a legend amongst even the spend thrift folk of Yorkshire, a man whose favourite brand of golf ball is someone else's. A Man after my own heart in a way, I have not bought a golf ball in over 18 years yet i have a shoe box full of 'brand' new Pro V 1's and another full of almost new Srixon's TP5's and other Permium makes and models. Just lucky I have played on courses where many of the members have more money than ability and I know where to find their balls when they pump a fresh one into the cabbage.
I think the problem with avx is customer confusion. Perhaps they should call it a Pro v1 avx? Pro v1, Pro v1x, Pro v1avx, and spell out the differences on the packaging. As it is now, I always looked at it as an under performing 'premium' ball. That was my impression of it. I didn't get how it was different or better than the pro v1's.
I’ve played the AVX for a couple years now and can probably help here. I’m not a traditional avx suited player, probably a bit too high a swing speed off the driver to the point I lose a couple yards to the prov1/x. That being said, this ball comes into its own off the irons. I struggle with way too much spin and height on irons, this is the ONLY ball I’ve hit that actually lowers the flight and managed my spin to the point that an 8 iron isn’t ripping back like 15 feet on greens. The low flight is also great in the wind and is the only thing I feel is as stable as the old tp5x / Nike rzn black
@@thebeej1231 My point is Titleist hasn't done a good enough job marketing their own ball. It may be a great ball, but I couldn't find a reason to try it over pro v1. This is not a product quality issue, it's a titleist marketing issue. Based on what you wrote, you would think this ball would appeal to tour players. But all titleist markets is 'pro v1, number one ball on tour'. That is why they should just make it part of the prov 1 line. Think of Callaway: Chrome soft, Chrome soft x, Chrome soft x ls (low spin). Those are also great balls, and I have a full understanding of what each ball is for.
@@supersoniq3506 you make a good point, I definitely agree on titleists branding of the balls not being linear. Being honest though I can see why pros wouldn’t play the AVX, it’s not as long as the 1 or 1x off the tee for high swing speeds which matters more on all the long courses played, doesn’t spin as much as the others round the green and can be prone to fliers, on the firm greens out there I doubt it would hold up. Truthfully, the last month I’ve tried the prov1x left dash and actually think it’s taken the spot, a solid 10 yards on the fly for the longer clubs in the bag and still keeps the irons from ripping back on greens, albeit a higher flight than AVX… Trouble is that the left dash also doesn’t fit in a line, it’s higher launching than the 1 and 1x, firmer feel than both but lower spin than both too… I think AVX could be a pro vs, then 1, x and x left dash in a clearer line of soft-firm/less spin
The Wilson Professional is a better ball. At only a 60 compression low spin off the tee and more spin around the greens. Literally noticeable more spin on chips over the ProV 1.
Ok guys. Here’s what to consider. A ProV1 is a higher compression ball than the AVX. Neither are better, they’re different. If you have enough speed a ProV1 will be longer. If not the AVX is recommended. There’s also, the most important performance factor of high versus low compression. A low compression ball is easier to compress on slower ball speed miss hits. A high compression ball compresses less on miss hits and makes the clubhead “give” or twist more. Low compression balls “give” more on miss hits and the club head stays more stable. So low compression balls are mainly more accurate when miss hit. So even if you’re long if you’re a high handicapper, a low compression AVX is better. A ProV1 is for mid to long hitters with high skill. An AVX is for mid to slow hitters and or low skill. Understanding compression is important. Good luck all.
My favorite part of the "Talking Balls" segment is without a doubt Chris reading the manufacturer's claims on the box. Pure poetry.

Apparently no change in spin on full approach shots, it’s just on the partial shots because of the new cover
I love this golf ball. I started using it since the 2nd release in 2020 and never looked back
