- With the Steam version coming out, I thought I should finish the Switch version that I had since Holiday 2022 and share this finale, and it was one of those JRPG games that right away took my interest simply because its original Super Famicom version that it was released the same day when I was born (September 2nd 1994) so I knew this game was for me and I loved it. My favorite protags is Akira mainly because his story reference 80s & 90s Mecha animes and I grew up watching those lmao. Oboromaru is also my favorite.
Anyways, The Dominion of Hate is very long compared to every other character's chapter unless you're going for the Trials to get powerful weapons for every character and finding good gear to prepare for the Final Battle against Lord of the Dark, Odio himself.
As for the True Ending requirement, you pretty much have to recruit everyone, even if the party is limited to 4, it will still work, you can depart someone for another member you haven't recruited yet and come back for them the next time you're ready for the final boss.
I'll likely pick this game up again on Steam for that sweet 60 FPS and also make videos for it.

49:39 It makes sense that Akira wouldn’t have much sympathy for Oersted’s tragic tale.
Unlike the other incarnations, Odeo wasn’t a self-propelled destructive force. It was a deity, a cause under which (at least) three humans justified pain and suffering without truly taking responsibility.
It all stemmed from this man, having been dragged down by the worst of humanity, _choosing_ to delve deeper.
Oersted striking the final blow against Odio is possibly one of the most cathartic moments in any game. the amount of symbolism packed into that one strike is incredible.
I love that the normal battle themes play during the boss rush instead of Megalomania. For one, it reinforces the power difference - any of Odio's forms aren't a match for the heroes, so they may as well be generic enemies. But also, in a way, Megalomania is Odio's battle theme, so it feels like a signal that it's not "his story" anymore.
Oh, Sundown's ending is a lot more somber if you kill Mad Dog.

As a general rule, I hate voice acting in JRPGs. I have ever since it was introduced. But...somehow the blend of the voice actor and the artificial distortion and the lines written in iambic pentameter come together for me to love/loathe Odio.
"And bid farewell to misspent life of sin! YOU'LL LIVE NO MORE!" That should be corny, but the delivery somehow gives me chills.
It helps that Square Enix picks some of the out-of-the-box english VAs for this game.
Streibough's VA, in particular, is hired because he's trained in Shakespearian
All the VAs in the Middle Ages chapter, especially Oersted’s, deserve to get more work. I’d say that Dario Coates could rival Chris Hackney when it comes to pure emotion-filled performance.

Yo nice video. I did a full play through of this too when this game came out, but for some reason my video got copyrighted and is still unviewable for both my final video and my medieval chapter finale video. I think might be cause my videos have commentary or that Square doesn’t want people to get spoiled on the ending or important cutscenes either.
You didn't even reach the statue. That means you already killed the head hunter.
I didn't in this playthrough, basically I already cleared the game, loaded the cleared chapter with Akira and was sent all the way to the entrance of the Archon's Roost so that's why I wasn't able to walk up to the statue.

Did you just ignore some of the dungeons? You barely won the True Final Boss like that…
I did, for every character. getting their end game gear before going towards the final boss. I'm not sure what's the issue here.
