    I just bought a TMax DX after a Ducati Monster. The handling is impressive and the performance is comparable to any 500cc twin cylinder bike. People say the Kymco AK is marginally faster and cheaper but if I was into speed I would have bought a Panigale. I'm not interested in 0-100 times and if I were, I would not have bought a bike with CVT ffs! The Kymco did not impress me, it looks and feels cheap while the Yamaha's finish is pretty decent. I'll repeat that the bike has really impressive handling and cornering and I say this after having ridden Ducatis for a long time. You never feel that you've pushed it beyond its capabilities... so basically I have the benefits of a road bike and all the pros of a scooter. In short, I'm happy with what I've bought.

    I haven't ridden the TMax so I can't give a full appreciation of it. I do own a Suzuki Burgman 650 AN Executive from 2009 I can offer some comparisons. I also own a Kawasaki Voyager 1700 so I have bike and scooter experience. The features of the Burgman that appeal to me are; the engine is strong and powerful zipping away from the lights easily and weaving in and out of the traffic, lane splitting - if that is legal for your area but the bike is just as much at home on the freeway/highway/motorway and the back roads. It effortlessly keeps up with the big cruisers, tourers and sports bikes. The CVT is twist and go with a manual mode for those who like more control and a power boost when in auto mode for extra grunt when over taking. ABS with two discs on the front and a single on the rear and a parking brake bring the bike to a stop without wheel lockup. The electrically adjustable screen means there can be good airflow at low speed but the wind is kept off the chest reducing strain on the arms and shoulders at high speed. There is plenty of on board storage both in the dash and under the seat but I recommend a top box for more. As my bike is now 10 years old I would hope Suzuki have added a few gadgets to make touring, which is what this bike and the TMax are for, better. First improvement I would suggest is cruise control, these are electronic so they add little to the bike weight but make a huge difference to a day touring. The grips could be softer, see the previous point. Everyone likes music so add a radio and speakers with either Bluetooth or Aux input so a phone can be connected for music. My Kawasaki Voyager from 2010 has a radio and speakers so it is possible. I assume traction control would be standard now. Remember it is the ride that is important not what you ride, how fast you get there or the top speed. It is journey that is important.

    Most complete review on the web, thank you, One thing to consider is that this scooter has the steering wheel 5cm higher than the previous generation TMax

    Years later, still a great review. I'm currently riding a Yamaha YP400 Majesty, purchased 2 months ago, already put 1500 miles on it. It's exceeded my expectations, but I'm an ex-sportbike rider, so I want more 😀It's a going to be a used Tmax, or a new, or newish AK550. Researching... Yeah, I'm 61, so there's that 😆.

    Espectacular video! El único que explica muy bien la diferencia entre el S mode y el T mode.

    Having owned a T-Max 2007 model, went to try the DX. Yes it’s nice, but I found all the electronics, switches & kit all a bit too much. 12 years from my T-Max, nothing has really changed & that’s the truth. Power, ABS, Luggage Space, Handling etc, all the same. Yes it looks very ‘jet fighter’, but you can buy a super 10 years old model for a fraction of the price & spend the money on something not every idiot is trying to steal. Love the bike, but not impressed with the hype!. It’s your choice, your money. I’m keeping my 11 year old T-Max for quite some longer time!………… Have fun. Mark, Amsterdam.

      I've had my mk2 for 10 years and manage to do basic servicing on it so it hasn't cost me much.I have considered a 530dx but it does seem too complicated and could be an expensive machine to maintain.

      Had a similar feeling when test riding and comparing to my older 2012 500 model. Just felt heavier. Sadly had to sell my former bike in 2016 due to needing garage space plus coccyx pain and the new 2017 model bike wasn't any different in this respect since it is not possible to put weight on feet and the seat hump is too far forward for me.

    Great review! I'm not a fan of the keyless go, especially after I've seen how easily cars using the same system are stolen. All one needs is a wireless range extender between the key and the car - or in this case the TMax - ad one can simply get in/on and ride off.

    Thanks, that was a good review.
    I am almost convinced that I will buy either the 2017 Tmax DX or the 2018 Burgman 650.
    More fun on the Tmax or more comfort and a lower price for the Burgman???

    • @tibosee
      @tibosee 5 лет назад

      Burgman. I have the 2016 and I love it. Tmax seems in other league..too sporty, not that massive, not that comfortable..Burgman seems like a touring motorcycle but the tmax looks like a city sport bike.

    You have to understand short guys need lower seats too since that is a big bike.

    First of all Congratulation for this review of this bike ,but also I would like to make you a question about this bike ! Is the average consumtion 4.3lt/100km real?

    • @OnroadDotBike

      Depends on your right wrist. :-) Possible, but 6.5 also. For normal everyday traffic or commuting without full throttles I think absolutely realistic.

    Would be nice if they made motorcycle look design rather than Scooter looks and ABS and FM sterio sounds, after all the price is staggering high for a Scooter.

    This seems like a good place to ask...
    I have just bought a 2017 Tmax 530 DX brand new. Don't congratulate me. I'm very disappointed. Between about 3,750 - 4,750 RPM it sounds like a broken washing machine. It seems to be the way they are made. I thought the test-ride model had been modified, but now it seems not. I cannot keep the bike if I cannot make it quiet. Who buys a scooter for relaxed cruising and then listens to an incessant drone noise at cruising RPM?
    QUIET exhaust recommendations, PLEASE!

    • @gwynnus
      @gwynnus 5 лет назад

      I just got a DX and I can't say that I've noticed any strange noises or vibrations. Having said this, I usually ride a Ducati so maybe I'm comparing the DX to a throbbing v-twin. Have you spoken to the dealer?

    • @staninjapan07
      @staninjapan07 5 лет назад

      gwynnus I have called the dealer and will be taking the bike in soon. I doubt that it is a fault or similar. The sound is very specific, happens in very specific circumstances (as outlined before). It is probably the way the bike is made. I, too, came from a v-twin (2013 v-strom 650), but that is quiet compared to the Yahama, especially in the low RPM range.
