I own this tent and love it! I put a length of line between the two hooks inside to make a mini clothesline where I could hang my headlamp. I like the gear pockets inside for my cellphone and battery bank at night. Condensation has not been an issue so far; it’s very well ventilated. Seam sealing that one seam took about ten minutes. Like you pointed out, I chose to only carry the lighter stakes and left the L-hooks at home. I cut a piece of Tyvek to shape for a quick, light, and inexpensive footprint.
Love your attention to detail.❤ Thanks for the thorough dissection! For me, I have a pile of trekking pole tents that I’ll part from some day. What I dislike about them is the quantity of stakes it takes to set them up and the sagging of condensation laden material every time I straighten up and rub my face in.(although it make a quick morning shower!) This year, when snow leaves, I will use the TarpTent Rainbow that I just received, I’m really looking forward to it!😊
My Featherstone Peridot included a footprint, and the Granite presumably does as well. Two mummy-shaped pads, 25" at the head, might fit, but I almost always camp alone anyway. I only use 2 person tents for more space.
Two more stakes to open the vents and tighten the ridge line seems well worth the weight. I'm only 5'10", so I may not need another tie out to lift the tent from my toes, but I wouldn't obsess over the weight anyway. I'll ditch the shepherd hooks but won't hesitate to carry all of the lighter stakes and maybe a few more. I have the Lanshan 1 and decided to buy a two person trekking pole tent for extra space. My choice came down to the double-walled Lanshan 2 (not Pro) or this tent, and I opted for this one. It'll be my first single-walled tent, so I'll learn from experience how much condensation is a problem. It definitely provides more space than either the Lanshan 2 or the Lanshan 2 Pro, and I like the assymetry providing more head room.
I have this tent, but haven't been able to take it out yet. Set it up in the yard a few times and I really like it. The big thing for me was the side pockets. You don't see nice big storage space like that on most tents. One thing I don't really like is the rams head hooks for the vestibules. They're a pain to take on and off sometimes, and I've heard Lanshan users say that they can break in a strong wind. Planning to swap mine out with some S biners for quick on/off. One other thing that could make it a better tent is another mesh vent down near the foot end, but overall I think there should be plenty of airflow in it
Xmid for me 4 stakes its up and no lines to trip on or deal with and double walled and great for winter and no condesetion to deal with or much and made of poly . I have another 4 stake tent too tarptent protrail..
Comparing this tent to xmid is just wrong.... Compare it to the one it copied forclaz mt900 UL trekking pole tent wich it is a copy from. Did you notice that copying mt900 to make this one, no one bats an eye, and copying xmid to make asta gear yun chuan 2 everyone looses their mind?🤷
If price isn’t an issue you can look at the x-mid which doesn’t require any seam sealing. At the lower price point you may have to seal a seam or two which is actually really easy to do.
Have you had any experience with this tent or thinking about getting a trekking pole tent? 🏕️
I took this tent on a backpacking trip last fall and absolutely LOVED it.

The Tarptent Rainbow looks like it has some cool features. Sounds like fun! 🏕️😀

Really good review! I'm still gonna go with the X-Mid, because it weighs less, is double walled and fits 2 wide pads.

I like the S Biner idea. 😀
Love the tent! Did a review recently on the tent also. 👍👍
Xmid 2p is 2lbs 6 oz. Unless you are including stakes for the extreme weather tieouts?
We have the solid version of the X-mid which is probably a few ounces heavier.

I use 8 to 9 inch nail stakes for my tents so tent is secure to ground...4 nails for tent corners and cheap for door that I use..
We love the xmid as well although we prefer 6 stakes which lets you hold out the door flap on the vestibule. Do you have a favorite stake type/brand?

We compared it to the Xmid because that is what we have and had experience with.
I’m not impressed that you have to seal one of the seams yourself!
