    If the 2009 Hyundai Genesis was a shot across the bow of Lexus and Infiniti, then the 2015 Genesis 5.0 is a torpedo hit below the water. While BMW and Mercedes didn't seem overly concerned about the last generation Genesis, this 2015 model should make them very worried indeed.
    From the outside, the Genesis (in all trims) strikes most of the right cords with luxury shoppers that prefer flowing lines to sharp creases. While previous products from Korea have been more imitation than innovation, the Genesis both deviates from the theme yet clearly draws inspiration from the rivals.
    Of course the ultimate question is: can Hyundai convince luxury car buyers that they can get most of the same goodies on a $50K Hyundai as a $70K German or Japanese sedan? Even if that hurdle can be jumped, will the brand conscious think twice? To those adventurous car shoppers who manage to look beyond brand perception, they will find a car maker with the best warranty in the industry making reliable cars with a dollop of style and a 'whole lotta' value. What kind of buyer are you? Are you buying that LS460 because it carries a $70,000 price tag, or because you like the way it coddles you? Are you buying the BMW for the roundel or for the 0-60 time? I would posit the Hyundai does all the above minus the badge. As a result the Genesis is my new favorite car for 2014.

    Phillip, just remember that the same thing was said about the Audi A8, Lexus LS and BMW 7-Series when they were launched. The Genesis is honestly an option worth shopping in the short wheelbase full-size luxury class.

      The Hyundai Genesis beats the Lexus LS for sure. Lexus cars just don't feel premium to me. They're just rebadged Toyotas.
      Audi, BMW and Mercedes are the real premium vehicles.
      Hyundai Genesis and Lexus LS are in the same category.

    This was my first Alex on Autos review and I was stunned. This is hands down the best, most thorough, most objective, and most helpful review that I have ever seen. The frequent and detailed comparisons to other models of other manufacturers set this review far above the competition. I must admit that like Alex, brand name has no weight for me. It is all about actual performance, whether that be luxury features comfort, or prowess on the road. But again, in this matter he was direct and up front. I have been looking for a review of this quality for some time. Thanks so much.

    I currently drive an Infiniti m35x and it has been incredibly reliable, but the suspension is kind of tight because it is a sports sedan. It really doesn't work well with my style of driving, which is more sedate and relaxed. I recently test drove a 2017 Genesis G80 3.8 and was very impressed. The ride is smooth and very similar to an LS. I also test drove a new Lincoln Continental and was underwhelmed. Genesis wins!

    Alex, I have seen many Automotive reviewers, and you Sir are Above the best! I have been unsure of what to buy. Cadillac XTS, Kia K900, Genesis, Jaguar XJ, and the winner is Genesis. Love your well balanced and fair review....
    Some reviewers (even MT and CarAndDriver) put too much emphasis on track performance of vehicles.
    Well...not all vehicles are developed to set a record in the track.
    I am glad to see that you review cars based on their intended purpose, not on their track-readiness.

    When I graduate with my degree in 2018, I am definitely coming for this car as the very first thing I own... I currently have a 2011 Elantra and I am just completely ecstatic about where Hyundai is going! Also, this my very first time watching you review any car and I have to say that this is very easily the best review of the 2015 Genesis I have seen on RUclips and I think I have looked at them all... The entire review was extremely cohesive and you have a very extensive knowledge of the car you are reviewing and what cars to compare it to which helps a lot when trying to trust a reviewer. Again, good job! You have my subscribe!

    I sat in this car today and was floored by the quality and comfort. The seats are among the most comfortable and roomy I've ever sat in. The backseat IS the most comfortable seat ever. The quality of the dash, doors, and overall interior meets or surpasses my Lincoln. And it's a very masculine designed car, inside and out. The one I looked at costs $3000 less than my Lincoln MKZ, but seemed more expensive and had more options and a lot more room. I'd definitely consider trading. Only thing is the dealership was closed. So I couldn't drive one. We'll see in the future.

  • @asko2677

    Happy to report that my 2015 3.8 AWD with signature and tech packages has been an excellent choice (coming from someone who owned 6 BMW's, not going back to that madness again). In all honesty, when you compare this car to a similarly equipped 5 series or an E-class, they come up about $20-25K more, that badge better be gold or diamond crusted for that kind of upcharge! Definitely enjoy my heated/cooled seats depending on the season, and heated steering wheel, the 14 speakers surround sound, and peasant blockers (manual rear window shades and power back window shade), and all the technology/safety features that are still relevant even in 2020! Hope this helps someone that's on the fence and is considering the Germans!

And it goes to show that my two top choices for cars I'd like to own (and probably will) independent of watching Alex's reviews, are the 2015 Hyundai Genesis and 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid. I'm stoked. Great review Alex, you're the best one on youtube here and I subscribe to many different reviewers.

  • @TewBacco
    @TewBacco Год назад

    I've had 2 BMWs. I've had a Mercedes. I've had a couple of Audis (A5, A6). They stuck around a couple of years.
    I've had the 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate since 2016 and have been blown away. I paid substantially less, and got a lot more car.
    Now admittedly I've done a tiny bit of work to mine, custom wheels, ducktail spoiler, single-chamber exhaust, etc...
    I've had so many questions, so much interest, and so many people thanking me for turning them on to the car.
    I've still got that car. I have a few other vehicles these days, but that Genesis is the single greatest, most fun and head turning car I've ever had, and still my favorite of my daily drivers.
    My only real criticism is that, when the battery finally died in it, at about year 5, I was in the middle of a high speed, fairly sharp turn on a County Road, and the entire vehicle shut down for a split second. I will agree and insist upon, that being a VERY big negative as it put myself and my (then) girlfriend in great danger. Fortunately it regained some power, and lit back up long enough for us to arrive at our destination.
    The only two times it's been in the shop are 1 for that battery, and 2 head gasket seal blew at the 90k mark.
    I wish they were still throwing that Tau V8 in these cars instead of the new Turbo V6, I would happily buy another one.

  • @ericynot

    Lordy, Alex, you sure talk fast and say a lot of words. I guess that's because you really know more about what you're reviewing and how comparable cars compare to each other than just about anyone I've ever seen. Really excellent work here ...
    As a side note, I recently purchased a 2015 Genesis (it's now 2019 as I write this) and consider it one of the most extraordinary buys I've ever made. Four years after this video review, the Genesis is still one of the best cars and best values available.
    Props to both you and Hyundai for doing great work.

I to like the Genesis brand and would get the 2021 or 2022 G90 (when it comes out). I do want the bigger full size luxury sedan, so I would skip over this one (this was the eventual G80). Alex, here's a suggestion for reviewing rear seats: Knee space is kind of misleading. Sure, it's important to know if you fit, but I find comfort depends on whether you can sit with your thighs supported on the seat, and that comes from having enough foot space. If you can move your feet far enough forward that your thighs rest on the seat, then the back seat will be comfortable for trips longer than going to lunch.

    Alex, like you I fell in love with this car at the unveiling. This car speaks to me in every way as well. Sure I would love an Audi A7 or a BMW Grand Coupe, those cars are out of reach and for snobs who have to have badges. ANd with those vehicles you worry when out of warranty! Hyundai gives you the best warranty and you know even the fully equipped V6 model at $51K retail Hyundai will be discounting then pretty good by fall. Say $45K? Or even find one when it becomes used with low miles and knock off $15K and get it for around $30K. Love your channel!

      You can get a ultimate equipped 5.0 2015 Genesis for a bit over 50k with some negotiating. So you are looking at a 10k difference and with the ride quality and resale value increase expected I would say 2015 more than worth it.

    Canadian Drivers are lucky to have "AWD ONLY" (HTRAC system which is the manufactured by the same company as the BMW xDrive but the updated version) available in both the 5.0L V8 & the 3.8L V6. You can switch to Sport Mode and this transfers most of your torque to rear wheels for a sportier drive.

    Alex, I have owned both the 2009 and the 2012 Hyundai Genesis 4.6. The 2009 vehicle rode very harshly and was terrible in snow. I replaced the original Dunlap V rated tires with Continental Contacts which slightly improved both the ride and the snow driving. The 2012 that I am currently driving has an improved ride but still not that of a luxury vehicle. Has the ride dramatically improved on the 2015 models? Does the 'Snow' mode really make a difference on the top of the line model? By the way, your review of the 2015 Genesis 5.0 was excellent.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 лет назад

      The ride has improved, but as you noted the tires make a huge difference. With any car you can drastically change the handling and ride after market with a simple tire swap. The snow mode is just like any other, it dulls throttle response and makes the transmission start in 2nd.

      For Chicago winters, does it make more sense to look at the AWD version and add in the option packages or would you stick with the 5.0?

      If I were you, I'd get AWD but that's just me. Plenty of people lived for decades in snow country with a RWD car. I would say that if you are looking at the 3.8 AWD model, give the Lincoln MKZ a whirl as well.

      Let's just say that Tesla is very odd when it comes to dealing with the press. They don't loan cars like every other company does so the reviews you have seen online so far are either private cars somone has lent to the publication, a car the publication bought (like Consumer Reports) or a car that was lent to high-profile journalists for a very short time (24-48 hours) which has now stopped after the new york times debacle.

      Alex on Autos I just saw the proposed price for Tesla X, and it doesn't seem much cheaper (or at all) than S, so I lost interest. For that kind of money you might as well have a bigger and comfier car. ;)

    Well i've gotta honestly say, Australia has only just got the 2015 Genesis on our shores, but before it came.... Hyundai was proving out to be one of the most reliable cars on our roads
    You'll often see BMW's, Merc's, Audi's, Jaguar's etc broken down because they cant handle our harsh conditions
    I'd be happy to admit, i find more soft touch appointed areas in a Genesis than i do in a 5-Series or E-Class
    Hyundai isnt about the long warranty with poor engines anymore
    Hyundai has proved in many more ways than one that it can beat it's most direct competitors
    Our reviewers we have here have shown/proven and tested that the Genesis with locally tuned suspension to Australian conditions benchmarks the german rivals which feel a little un-easy and very uncomfortable
    I say go Hyundai, the badge bashers really are some of the most immature crowd these days

  • @HaSh6064

    Excellent review, Lots of details. Genesis is smart buy.
    It is hard to convince the German car owners to buy Genesis. Once you get into an Audi, BMW or Mercedes then it is hard to go to Genesis. Genesis is not for these buyer and Hyundai should not aim these buyers.
    I think this is a car for those who owns cars like Camry, Honda Accord, Subaru Legacy , Sonata, or ........that like to buy a bigger size luxury car for a reasonable price ( Genesis V6).
    I had a 2010 Legacy, in 2014 I was looking for luxury car, in my budget, I test drove A4, BMW 3, Q50, C250, Cadillac Ats, they are all luxury but not as much HP as I liked( other than Q50), small engines. Genesis had all my needs, looks( European), V6 with 311 HP, Bigger room, Nav , and more luxury features for the same price of those smaller luxury cars, Wow.
    It is Jan 2016 and I am driving my 2nd 2015 Genesis, I just traded in my first one ( got in May 2014) to get a Higher trim for the price of the one I had.

    Great review, as always you continue to do the best job in detailed reviews. Would you compare this (v6 vs v6) to a Lincoln MKZ? Im thinking of going the Lincoln route but after this video, you have me questioning myself.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 лет назад

      Both the MKZ and the Genesis are on my top cars list for 2014. The MKZ is a bit smaller, it feels a hair more agile despite the FWD biased drivetrain. The Genesis feels more like a 5-Series out on the road. That said, the MKZ is the faster V6 and IMHO more dynamic in AWD form as well. The Genesis really needs the V8 to feel lively and by the time you add the V8 to the Genesis you're talking about a much more expensive vehicle. So while I like the Genesis, I would say the optimal form is $10K more than the MKZ give or take. I have to say that my favorite form of the MKZ is the 2.0h Hybrid model.

    Great review! I have always liked the Genesis. I think Hyundai as a whole has developed very formidable line of automobiles for almost every market. I am going to be in the new car market in the next few months and I had my mind and my heart set on the CLS550. But after watching your review I am also going to test the Genesis 5.0. I know you have tested both ; so I am curious which one would you go with personally? I just want a straight up car vs car choice ( brand and price difference are both non issues)

    Your reviews are amazing. I'm very interested in this car but ill wait a few years for an updated powertrain. The fuel consumption is bottom of the pack for that v8. When i upgrade ill be keeping my car for at least 5 years so i have to look at cost of ownership specifically fuel. Bmw and audi have exceptional fuel mileage and even mercedes as well. We should bear in mind that although the car is all new the powertrain is carried over from the previous generation. Within a year or 2 there should be significant improvements in that regard. Excellent review as always. Side note this car reminds me of my 2009 toyota crown which is in my opinion the worlds best kept automotive secret. Anyone reading this if you have a chance google or youtube that car. Cheers.

      I beg to differ on the BMW fuel efficiency blurb. This writer purchased a pre-owned BMW 328xi sedan at our Hyundai dealership and ummmmm....fuel efficiency isn't very good at all!! Just sayin. For a V8 the Gen does pretty good with the GDI system.

    • @JamaicanMeCrazy
      @JamaicanMeCrazy 9 лет назад

      Leduc Hyundai those care are not quite comparable As the 328xi is a smaller type of car with a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine, but yes it should give you better fuel economy, however theres usually a mpg penalty for all wheel drive cars such as the 328xi. Holy crap dude u should check out the mileage on the awd version of the genesis, they dont even offer it in the US cuz its sooooo bad. They offer the v8 genesis awd in canada though (all of them are) check out the fuel.economy. on tbose and youll see.what im talking about. Its attrocious.

    • @Leduchyundai
      @Leduchyundai 9 лет назад

      ray britton It's (the Genesis) a 5.0L V8 sooooo fuel effieciency is based on that of course. It gets about 27mpg on the highway and 16mpg in the city. It's a bigger engine with horsepower of 420hp so you can't expect to be running to the bank with fuel savings. People who are looking for fuel efficient luxury sedans should look more towards a hybrid or V6 which we have in the Genesis too and it's still AWD in Canada...all our Genesis Sedans no matter what model are All Wheel Drive.

      Genesis? Next is Exodus, but that sounds like a Ford product. Then Leviticus, which includes camping instructions so will be a Ute. Numbers is next, so a rally car (no snorkel kit though, as it never crosses the river Jordan.) Finally, Deuteronomy - a car for lawyers. And thus the Torah of Hyundai is complete.

      I just thought I'd throw in my two bits again as this comment has some false info. "the steering wheel felt plastic and cheap was not leather wrapped" The steering wheel is leather wrapped as well as the Shift Knob. The interior seats are premium Napa Leather, which translates to: Napa is a full-grain leather made from unsplit lamb- or kid-skin tanned with salts of chromium or aluminum. The tanning process was invented by Emanuel Manasse, in Napa, California, in 1875. Famous for suppleness, softness and durability, napa leather is used in luxury leather products like high-quality leather furniture, and cherished personal items like handbags, gloves.

    Hi Alex, as always I really enjoyed your review!!! Great work!!!
    Did you have a chance to try out the the V6 equipped model? I was wondering how it compares to the V8. I have read that a lot of people actually prefer the V6 over the V8 because of the lighter weight and thus they said it has better dynamics and a better ride.
    Greetings from Germany :)

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  10 лет назад

      I did. I like the fact that the V6 is now mated to the 8-speed but the 6 feels slow compares to the turbo 3.0L from BMW, the supercharged 3.0 from Audi and Jaguar and somewhat similar to the Mercedes 3.5L. Overall I'd take the V8. For the cash you save on buying the V8 over the 6-cylinder competition you can afford the extra gas it drinks.

    Hello, thanks for the indepth reviews, I really like your channel for it.
    I have a question you mentioned that 5.0 V8 ultimate package has the adaptive suspension, does 3.8 V6 ultimate package also have the adaptive suspension, if not how different is the ride quality with this adaptive suspension.
    If you have driven 2018 accord back to back with their touring model having their new adaptive suspension option which rides way better than other trims.
