The only two cars that are even close to being similar on this list are the GT4RS and the 296. The Lotus is barely $100k and the McLaren is at least $100k more than than the Porsche & Ferrari
I agree with Ewan Singleton’s comment below. As further support: The ‘cheapest’ USED 2022 765LT on sale in the US goes for a mere $750K. Next ‘cheapest’: $860K. Even with the max dealer markup I’ve found (an astonishing $100K), with every performance option (Weissach package, ceramics, mag wheels), a new 2023 (not 2022) GT4RS costs less than 40% of the ‘cheapie’. It’s an instant classic, has one of the best normally aspirated engines ever built, and has received white-hot reviews by all major auto magazines and online sites. I am skeptical that the McLaren is better in terms of pure driving experience, but if it is it very well should be.
In addition, if you can find a better, more passionate, more technologically proficient groups of automotive engineers and designers than Andreas Preuninger and his team please let me know who they are.
I don’t understand why you’ve done this comparison. You’ve compared a Lotus Emira pre-production sports car to a line up of mainly £200k+ super cars. That’s like comparing a tent to a 5 star hotel room. You’ve really thrown Lotus under a bus with this review. Very unfair! I’m slightly bias 😂 I have an Emira first edition arriving imminently in October.
"Road trip to determine which car is best". I'm not sure I fully understood the criterial for that statement. Both the 765 and GT4RS are race cars masquerading as street vehicles. On UK roads both would be the wrong tool for the job in a daily driver environment. The MC20 and Lotus would shine in that environment but lose in big fashion at the track. The Ferrari might be the best to handle both street and track situations.
I really enjoyed this review and the setting is beautiful. The only disappointment is that the Emira delivered for the test has the touring suspension and tires.
For me they re in different leagues. Maybe the ferrari with the LT, but rest of all together. For its price...Lt and Gt4 winners. Very nice review anyway loving it!
I'd love any of those with the exception of the Lotus, in this company it looks outclassed in every department. For me, the one that offers the best combination of performance, desirability, and of being obtainable would be the Maserati.
@@paulspensley1094 I never said it was. But it's like comparing an Audi RS3 with a Dacia Sandero. It's not gonna be as good because it's not competing with any of these cars. Only the Cayman is similar but even then thr GT4 RS is 2 levels up. The Emira is built to rival a GTS
@@TheHesK9 problem is, that it lost that Lotus vibe. Now it's a sports car like many others just look at how much it weights compared to previous generations
between the cayman and evora it seems the cayman is set up to handle really well, at maximum potential while the evora can be a starting point for a much better handling by tuning the suspension and choosing better tires even a bit wider if it allows, at least that’s by looking at the suspension type. Maybe it’s meant to come in entry level tuneup
A good review, yet where do you draw the line between what is a sports car and a super car? It would be extremely embarrassing for McLaren if their 330k car wasn’t the best? Clearly, the real “sports car” winner is the GT4RS. At 110k, it will be the car that goes straight to the “classics” hall of fame. Has there been a single review of the LT where its reported as a “once in a generation” or “only once in ten years…” type comments? Of course not. And while the McLaren has its day in the sun, its praise will quickly fade into obscurity, while the GT$RS becomes legendary. If you want to compare apples, may I suggest the 992 911 GT3RS :)
GT4s is not a touch on the Mclaren and the GT4s is slower and not as dynamic though it's a great car it's ugly. The Mclaren is more expensive but you get what you pay for well done Mclaren!
Its funny how they compare LT spider to the 296 and gt4rs both 6 cylinders. why not add the sf90 spider? if performance was the test, the lt doesnt beat the sf90.
People say that every porsche goes to the "classics hall" of fame. Before the GT4RS there was the GT4, both using bastardized 911 engines. For a car to be truly classic it cant be a parts bin car. No offense, Porsche make some absolute bangers, but is the GT4RS better than a GT3? Or a GT3RS? Is the 991.2 really better than the 991.1? Was the normal porsches steering 10 years ago better than the electric steering now? The Only truly game changing car porsche has made in the last 10 years is the 918.
Surely the Emira with a track pack suspension would match the Macca for feel and excitement. But well done to Macca their LT versions have always been special with the extra focused drive
This is really an awesome grouping of automobiles, wish I could say the same about the usage of vocabulary which was very limited. The whole tone was sounding like they were doing a review of butter at Sainsbury's.
Am I the only one who is going to comment on the goat right before the Porsche? Yes, the Porsche did not take top spot, but it is for all intents and purposes one of the greatest of all times, and I can see a bit of romanticism or nostalgia wanting to just remind us how great it is. Could I be reading between the proverbial lines??

18:05 you're not sure whether that's a Maserati character? Is the press car breaking down not enough to showcase its heritage? 😭
Ferrari 296 GTB Is The Best
Will the 2023 C8 Z06 be enough to make the cut into the group next year i
Amazing amazing video… I’m so subscribing to your channel 👍
Thank you!
I love the Ferrari 296!!
Awesome car 👌
I don’t understand why you’ve done this comparison.
You’ve compared a Lotus Emira pre-production sports car to a line up of mainly £200k+ super cars.
That’s like comparing a tent to a 5 star hotel room.
You’ve really thrown Lotus under a bus with this review. Very unfair!
I’m slightly bias 😂 I have an Emira first edition arriving imminently in October.
GT4 RS all the way. And thanks for a great review! 👍🏼😎🍻
Thanks!
Get the Emira with track pack and the Dunlop tyres, you then also get suspension tweeks like more tow in.
A nice long form vid - thank you. 😊👍🏻
Thanks Rob - glad you enjoyed it!
I’d still take the lotus based on the fact that it has a manual.
Can’t argue with that tbf
@@pistonburner6448 And McLaren is a Bahraini product then? Neither car is built or designed outside of England.
The paint job on the Ferrari is DISGUSTING! How did they let a car leave the factory like that?
@Health is wealth I’m aware, but not everything needs to have a tribute. Their two tone pain styles have completely turned me off to their cars.
Super review!
I love these giant tests. Well done!
I really enjoyed this review and the setting is beautiful. The only disappointment is that the Emira delivered for the test has the touring suspension and tires.
Glad you enjoyed the review!
For me they re in different leagues. Maybe the ferrari with the LT, but rest of all together. For its price...Lt and Gt4 winners. Very nice review anyway loving it!
Your know what's beautiful? A Porsche Sport steering wheel from 2012 with exactly ZERO buttons, ahhhhh so good. No fisher price iPad either. Heavenly
Great group test, really enjoyed it so thanks very much 😎👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed
Gt4rs got my heart ❤️
Great video, guys 👍😎
For me, this one has to be a three way tie between the Emira, the 296, the GT4 RS.
Great Video💯
I’d have the Ferrari because it’s a Ferrari. Great review with awesome cinematography 🤓
Love the Lotus Emira 😍
Amazing test! My favourite the 718 GT4 RS!
Porsche sounds more Ferrari than a Ferrari, awesome. Italians have lost their edge.
How is the Z06 not in this lineup?
🇺🇸 I love these Giant Test. Thank you. Beautiful scenery.
Thank you!
WTF is wrong with ferraris BODY PAINT???
Ferrari colour I thought was an awful combo, for me the gt4rs or the maclaren, are just beautiful
I'd love any of those with the exception of the Lotus, in this company it looks outclassed in every department. For me, the one that offers the best combination of performance, desirability, and of being obtainable would be the Maserati.
It's a lot cheaper than the other cars though
@@TheHesK9 but when has cheapness been a measure of how good a sports car is, lol. It's a great car, but just not as great as the other I'm afraid 😕
@@mstrax0258 it also still has hydraulic steering and double wishbones front and rear. Name another competing car that has that
between the cayman and evora it seems the cayman is set up to handle really well, at maximum potential while the evora can be a starting point for a much better handling by tuning the suspension and choosing better tires even a bit wider if it allows, at least that’s by looking at the suspension type. Maybe it’s meant to come in entry level tuneup
i will take the cayman thank you
Good choice! Incredible car…
I agree with everything you said
GT4RS is not 110k, I looked into getting one, with all the mark ups it's almost twice as much.
Not quite fair with the McLaren, buuutttt it would be the one I'd choose out of this group, the gt4rs would be next, the lotus, and then the 296.
I agree the 765 is amazing
i like how they didn't even mention the maserati in the verdict segment. lol.
It was very good, but wasn’t quite top 3 in the voting 👌
I’d easily choose the GT4RS.
Drop us a line with a list of words you’d like included for next year and we’ll do our best to accommodate, George.
The McLaren to dream about, but to own and run? The Porsche, all day, every day
So how does Ferrari sue people for defaming their product, and they then turn around and make this spec from factory?
haha I was thinking the same but it's different when they do it, it's homage but it's not doing the car any favours.
In this crowd there is no real competition. Porsche GT4 RS!
Very surpriseing that a british magazine goes with a british car 😀
