Scary. Brydon and Coogan were a few years older than me when this came out. Now I'm comfortably older than they are in this first series. Not exactly a profound observation of the passage of time, but there you go.
Rob Brydon is like your slightly reclusive, but excitable, friend who doesn’t get out much and have much interaction with others, so when he does escape his enthusiasm and excitement at being able to converse with others can be somewhat overwhelming at best. Love him though!
@@helentowse4990 Ah, so he was correcting Rob’s impression as that’s what Alan Bennett would say, not because it’s actually grammatically correct. Gotcha!
I loved this film. I am not surprised that some of my fellow Americans didn't care for it. It's very subtle. I loved their Woody Allen. It was sooooo Woody.

Understanding Eric Gill’s Statue: Prospero and Ariel A vandalism event in London in January 2022 sparked a new round of discussion on how to view the legacy of a well-known artist with a history of abuse. That evening, a man broke into an Eric Gill monument that had been placed in front of the BBC’s London offices. While a second individual recorded the event, the suspect spent four hours using a hammer to pound the artwork. Both were subsequently detained.
It should be "me." Deconstructed, the sentence should go: Jonathan, that much cleverer than me. Coogan is being grammatically correct, but it's Brydon, in fact, who is making a statement about Alan bennett, implying that he is prone to hypercorrection, saying "I" because it sounds more traditional rather than actually correct.
This is probably the most casually hilarious comedy I have ever seen, but also the most calm and emotional and humane. It's perfect.
Holbeck Ghyll is humane??? lol
@@RideAcrossTheRiver Why are you replying to a comment I wrote literally ten years ago
@@JosephPage You mean after a certain period, comments become off-limits to reply? You sound like you're from Toronto or one of those places
@@RideAcrossTheRiver That's literally not what I said, I was asking a question. Toronto? What the fuck are you talking about?
the second one was bloody dull though
That Anthony Hopkins at the beginning is flawless. Bravo!
Am I the only one who is re-watching this over and over rolling on the floor laughing by myself ? Aha !!!!!
That James Mason is flawless! The Alan Bennett is just hilarious
Alan Bennett impression = awesome
Rob Brydon's Richard Burton is absolutely amazing
haha I thought he was doing Anthony Hopkins!
i fucking love "I'm Holbeck Ghyll... goodnight"
Rob is so talented as is Steve !!
Great impressionists. The Anthony Hopkins and James Mason ones are brilliant. Never realised Rob Brydon was so gifted.

I dont think Im ever going to get bored of this show.
Absolutely priceless.
Ahahaha! I just watched this movie for the first time a few days ago. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen in a long time.
His Hopkins is amazing
Ken Bruce impression...hilarious
Brydon's Hopkins is unreal. Actually so is Coogan's.
Lol I loved the Anthony Hopkins impression
Amazing talents
3:30 Such a good impression of Alan Partridge!!! Ahhaaaa :P
Coogan’s James Mason is spot on.
Go to your room or I shall beat you.
I'd buy a walk-in bath on Holbeck Ghyll's recommendation
Scary. Brydon and Coogan were a few years older than me when this came out. Now I'm comfortably older than they are in this first series. Not exactly a profound observation of the passage of time, but there you go.
I’d like to hear Brydon as Connery doing ‘Kubla Khan’ to ‘Modern Major General’s (patter) Song’, if possible before breakfast.
😂
Ken Bruce impression is brilliant
Go to your room or I shall beat you. OMG THE funniest line.
And Rob Brydon's Bond...."I'll have a vodka martini, shaken, not stirred.. I need it now, don't make me wait...." 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
“Honour and Obey!!!”
😂
Have to agree with Motherflange , the james mason is spot on, i'm, a fan of the late great star
Robs parky impression was pretty good
I think he is laughing when he's trying to drink the wine at the end there

Top comment 👏🏼
right as the video was ending i took a huge gulp of wine then "ah haaaa" half chocked then half vomited/spat wine all over my laptop. thanks steve.
Steve Coogan's impression of Alan Partridge is almost good
Brydon seems to win more often than not though his Terry Wogan was Ken Bruce. Wish they'd surprise us by doing impressions of themselves.
Brydon's Ken Bruce is ridiculously good
I love Rob Brydons Captain Bligh!!! It's spot on!
Steve Coogan's James Mason. Fucken phenomenal
What a charming girl! What a charming girl! What a charming girl!
Alan Bennett. Quite simply amazing
Legend has it coogan is still doing James mason
1:45 is Steve right here to correct Rob’s grammar?
I think he may be intimidated by Rob and so he's complimenting him!
" and I " is the correct grammar but folk from Yorkshire would generally say " and me " . . .
@@helentowse4990 Ah, so he was correcting Rob’s impression as that’s what Alan Bennett would say, not because it’s actually grammatically correct. Gotcha!
hes fucking nailed Ken Bruce! spot on.
Terry Wogan by Rob was insane!!!!!!
It sounded like Ken Bruce.
Steve is at another level. Rob mid table championship level.
I loved this film. I am not surprised that some of my fellow Americans didn't care for it. It's very subtle. I loved their Woody Allen. It was sooooo Woody.
There's method, in my, mad-ness!
I was going to ask how they don't laugh at each other when they're doing this, but then I remembered who they were...
True
I would honor you sah! I would honor you in the restaurant sah!
Brilliant
@mrJJ11 That was Ken Bruce..who's just a scottish Terry Wogan!! :-)
3:30 is what your here for.
How could you miss out the scouser part!?
What a charming gal
The thing I hate about this is the LOUD EATING NOISES AHHHHH
You feel Steve's pain at the impressions by about episode three!
"...if you're worried about INTRUDERS..."
Brydon's Holly Johnson sounds too Richard Burton. He should revisit it.

Is that Burton or Hopkins at the begin? I hedge Burton.
Hopkins. They say so in the episode itself. They sound similar, but it's Hopkins who has a special talent for shouting.
Love the dueling impressions, but as American I don't have the people they are imitating.
Who is he doing at 00:15?
He's still doing an Anthony Hopkins impression, just more specifically Hopkins as a shouting Captain Bligh from The Bounty.
@@JRRLewis you are the man thanks
Mutiny on bounty is a fantastic film
Damn your eyes, you turned your back on me Sir
Hopkins is brilliant
My ribs are hurting ffs
1:26 amazing
I wonder if they can do Isaac Newton? Man, that's a tough one.
What is the impression that starts at 1:26?
Alan Bennett
@@marcwilding4804 from 9 years later, thank you! Still love this series just as much as I did back then.
at 3:22 how is coogan not laughing his ass off?
Oh mam,
oh Alan
Sounds like Bryden started off with Burton. Love it!!
@Mebrice Depace Could've fooled me. In fact, it did. Still love it. 🍷
James mason and then Alan Bennett, Wogan....
Why does Coogan play so much on being annoyed with Rob Brydon?

Perhaps because that's the way Michael Winterbottom directed him.
@mrjoeington Alan Bennett
"Peter Dudley and me," is a very strong and good remonstrance. For what has Jonathan Miller done for the universe? We need a futile gesture, . . .
@MrGingerCakes you two are a clever pair
At 0.51 who is Rob doing a impression of? xD
Nunfluff Sean Connery
Joyce!
who is the first impression of?
Anthony Hopkins
Coogan was just implying that Alan Bennett (the guy Brydon is impersonating) would have said "me" rather than "I".
omg my grandad was friends with james mason
hes called wilf lunn
It may be an uncomfortable experience.
No Coogans right. you remove the second person
Sean Connery?
What the hell is this???!! haha,I love it but do not know what is going on..a movie?Well,I am on part three now and it is great.Cheers.
Middle aged blokes being funny as fuck, that's what it is.
Coogan is a genius
From the BBC television show 'The Trip'. Check it out - it's brilliant.
It's amazing.
loool
Anyone know exactly what Rob actually says when he does Alan Bennett? Sounds like “elf in sexuality”
Elfin sexuality
When they start oing off on one about an old person making their home fort knox
Coogan is a right miserable sod/ kill joy in this. Brydan's only trying to have a bit of fun.
They're both taking the piss
@waky803 Alan bennett
Did you watch 'The Trip'? I'm guessing not...
