The first vehicles actually sold to people were all custom jobs, built to the buyers specs. Up until the Ford Model T standard practice was for the builder to make a chassis with engine and then the buyer bought the body from a different company, a coachbuilder, who then mated the two together. Sometimes buyers just bought a chassis and would then get their own body and mount it up themselves.
Some bare chassis still exist today that never did get any bodywork. In those days all the needed parts were fastened to the frame and the body was only for the comfort of the passengers. I assume that those buyers were going to put a body on someday, but just never got around to it. Meanwhile, they could drive it around bare... even though it couldn't have been too pleasant!

Love the Yota and can't wait to see its finished look! Camera men have to go through a apprenticeship before they get paid don't they? 😆😀 Just joking he did a very fine job and also got some tape measure training. The biggest thing was he got awesome quality time with dad. This is such a great channel to watch. Thank you Paul and Michelle for letting me hang out with you all now three times a week.

As a Land Cruiser J40 series enthusiast, I love what you've done with the rig. I'm a purist when it comes to classic cars but when it comes to off road vehicles, I'd take a modified one rather than a stock.
One of my beliefs is that "Off-Road vehicles are meant to be modified. Because off-road vehicles are toy cars in full size."

This looks great Paul. Forget the purists. It's your truck to do what you want and it's all about making it into something you can have fun with. Keep the YOTA, but also keep the TO around for potential future uses.
Watching you do the cutoffs made me think of a recent video that Fireball Tools did showing that doing plunge cuts makes the disc wear out a LOT faster. He instead showed that doing a few shallow cuts to get through the metal makes the discs last 10x longer. But, it does take 2x longer, so that's something to consider.

A true craftsman. Let those that want a pure FJ45 watch another channel. You are making a great crawler. I can't wait to see it in action. Well through the youtube lens. Maybe one day I can make it out to Utah again and drop by and see ya. I was representing team fab rats on our overlanding trip the first of October. I even have a picture of me with my red fabrats shirt on. Love this channel.

Keep the “T O” portion of the tailgate around. If you ever change you mind about just using the Y O T A part. Obviously you can shorten the spacing of the lettering to fit them all.
I would love to see a small Yoda character peaking out of the O, swinging from or sitting on top of the T.

Couldn't help to feel a bit sorry for this bed which was still in great condition but I'm sure whatever you do to this truck will end up great looking and super functional. You do YOUR things and will end up with YOUR truck. That's the nicest part about a project like this one, it's unique, it's personal and those are the main reasons why you'll cherish it. Thanks for sharing this build.

“Yota” suits it build it the way you wanna build it if it’s your own project you only need to worry about it if you’re building someone else’s love how you angled the back of the bed in

Amazing, and looks awesome. This talent you have for Fabricating is off the charts. And I agree with the comments, it’s your build, do it your way. I grew up in my family with a FJ40. My brother still has the 1966 FJ40 Dad bought brand new. He has modified it some but it’s still a Toyota. Biggest change was putting a Chevy 327 in it.

Love the YOTA! It's amazing to watch you work. Your vision and foresight being several steps ahead saves so much time and eliminates a lot of trial and error. I can't wait to see the YOTA finished and watch you on the trails. I'm hoping to make a trip to Utah to meet you, Matt, Casey and all the gang.

I love the Yota! Also, 100% on board with all the cutting. Don't do the "TOY", I think that's kind of lame and that's stuff people always did in the 80s when I was a kid, along with body lift made from hockey pucks and 15 chrome shocks per wheel.

  • @donwilliams3626

It is amazing how you use your "eyecrometer" to center YOTA in the tailgate. Then taper the sides to match it exactly. THEN tell all of us you did it just so the fenders wouldn't get damaged while rock crawling.
Anyone watching you wearing the new welding jacket could think this is your FIRST day on the job. Until they observe you in action. All this and you are a teacher too.
I am anxious to see how you design these fender wells and rear bumper. Will they be flat fenders, like Papa Dars, with the bumper flared like you did on your son's ride?

I am jealous of your imagination, talent, and skill. I do so enjoy watching your vids!

I've seen a million Toys but never a Yota. Your work is brilliant. That's the reason why guys watch you build. Follow your jam. I didn't get the angle on the bed till you explained it. Again brilliant. If you were in southern California Netflix would be offering you a deal with suits telling you about ratings and what you should be doing. But your in southern Utah and you can't beat what you have going on with your family, friends and day job. Now if you want a tip, put a lawnmower engine in that Suzuki you dragged out of the bush and call it a day.

YOTA is perfect. And all the cutting and wedging is great too!. Your truck, your build, your choices. Its not like you are cutting up the 1907 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost or some other historically significant car. This is "just" another Yota ... no different than all the modded and reworked 60's & 70's muscle cars out there.
    Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
