      I remember my mom took the missiles from mine after some kid choked on theirs. It was a big deal back in the day. Was on the news. That is why the new missiles on toys are 10 inches long.

      Unrelated franchise but I had a Batman Batmobile that did the same, my parents took the missiles, I vaguely remember a Spaceship that did it too but I cannot remember which franchise it was, I do know it was not Star Wars.
      I think it looked like a Colonial Viper, did they have one that did that?

    The tradition of _dagashiya_ (Japanese-style candy stores) includes such candy toys, plastic models, puzzles, marbles, and those little gliders you assemble by attaching the weight to the nose and tossing them into the air. Blind-box toys almost always come with some sort of gum or ramune candy. I only managed to get the Base Star on Yahoo Auctions Japan just a few years ago and it's the only one I have. Here in Japan, BSG is extremely niche and finding anyone who knows about it is rare unless you attend some model show or SF convention. I grew up watching Buck Rogers and BSG back-to-back via syndication every Sunday starting at 5pm in the '80s, but there is no such culture for that here. So, it's amazing that any company like Konami made such BSG candy toys.

    My local Forbidden planet sold these way back without candy, never knew if it was one of those secret options they do in these kind of things but someone on E-Bay used to sell the Battlestar's as named after the 12 colonies not just Galactica but I think that Pegasus or Atlantia was one you could get packaged as well though I only ever seemed to get Galactica from the store.

    Strange. Because if I get this right in some Asian cultures a piece of candy 🍬 is handed out a funerals. During a certain point in the service the attendies eat it. Its meant as a reminder of the sweetness of life.

      @ I have. It crumbles like old gum. The chocolate tastes like coco-crispies

    • @Rodger_Phillips
      @Rodger_Phillips 14 дней назад

      US government did the same thing with Kinder Surprise Chocolate Eggs, even though the toy was inside a plastic container inside the chocolate egg,
      though slightly different since Kinder always mark their products when containing toys. Which is why they now have Kinder Joy's one side of the egg package is a toy and the other side chocolate, in separate sealed half egg containers.
      in this case Battlestarcollectica7106 is 100% correct, as here in Australia we see the same issue, food regulations for import requires safe containment of the food stuff, and a declaration on the product wrapper. it is called Biosecurity, and the reason they destroy the items is double fold, one is to ensure now biohazard is in the products (cheaper to destroy than to test every item) and the other is to send the importer a serious message, follow the rules or loose money. it can be hard to fine foreign companies under a certain size and collect the fine so much simpler to just say oh this cost you $10,000 by loosing the stock shipment.
      and my source on this, I worked for Customs in the Shipyards for a brief stint about a decade ago, my job was to patrol the yard of impounded containers and assist in checking for incorrect or suspect shipments,
