      Yeah it worked so good because the lateraling receiver sold the inside move first and killed any chance of any defender popping back outside quick because they all had momentum going back toward the center of the field, when it was tossed to a sprinter already at at top speed headed toward the sideline.

      The foundation for the college football playoff was when Oklahoma State was left out of the BCS Championship when they had a stronger resume than Alabama, who lost previously to LSU. OSU got jobbed bad, probably the worst I have ever seen by the powers that be in the football college world. They put LSU and Alabama in a rematch that nobody wanted to see, and a lot of people didn't watch it. Not too long afterward a college football playoff was implemented.

    • @obi-wankenobi4884
      @obi-wankenobi4884 6 лет назад +15

      Alex Adair Alabama lost against LSU who was #1 in the nation by only 3 points. Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State in overtime.

    • @alexadair5871
      @alexadair5871 6 лет назад +32

      Oklahoma State had a stronger resume, with the team's they beat that year. Most of Alabama's wins did not compare to Oklahoma States wins. NICK Saban got on National t.v. and campaigned to get into the Championship game. College football is all about money, and OSU is not a blueblood program, so they got jobbed and they got jobbed bad.

    • @obi-wankenobi4884
      @obi-wankenobi4884 6 лет назад +19

      Alex Adair Actually, Alabama's wins DID compare to Oklahoma State's wins. Oklahoma State had a close one point win vs #8 Texas A&M, a 38-26 point win vs #22 Texas, a close 52-45 point win vs #17 Kansas State, and a huge 44-10 blowout win vs Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship. Every ranked team Oklahoma State played in the regular season they struggled with. However, Alabama had a 27-11 point win vs #23 ranked Penn State, a 38-14 point win vs #14 Arkansas, and a big 38-10 point win vs #12 Florida. Alabama's wins were on par with Oklahoma State's. Yet again, you can't only pay attention to the wins. Your losses count as well. Oklahoma State lost 37-31 against unranked Iowa State in overtime. Alabama lost 9-6 (only a 3 point loss) against LSU who was ranked the #1 team in the nation. The only thing separating Oklahoma State and Alabama was that Oklahoma State had a chance to play in a Conference Championship while Alabama did not. In the Big 12 the two highest ranked teams in the conference play in the Conference Championship. In the SEC if you lose in your division you don't get a chance to play in your Conference Championship despite being the 2nd highest ranked team in your conference. Plus, Alabama was the #1 team in the nation anyways. They blew out LSU 21-0 and held all but one of their opponents below 20 points. They averaged 8.8 points allowed per game, averaged 74.9 rushing yards allowed per game, averaged 116.4 passing yards allowed per game, and averaged a total of 191.3 yards allowed per game with a total of 13 interceptions that year. This defense only allowed nine touchdowns that year and only 18 points were scored on this defense in the 4th quarter all year as well. They didn't even allow LSU to pass the 50 yard line until late in the 4th quarter. I can go all day with you of why Alabama deserved to play LSU in the BCS National Championship.

      Look at the level of competition Washington has played in those bowl games. They stayed very competitive with Auburn in a one score game, and didn’t let Bama run all over them like everyone thought they would. The last bowl game they lost was a 5 point game to Ohio State. When Oregon played Ohio State in a high stakes game they were blown off the field.

    I was in Vegas when this game happened in the poker room at South Point. The sports book was right next door and I swear from the fourth quarter on was the loudest crowd I’ve ever heard. Literal fortunes won and lost on every play.
    When they were setting up for the Statue of Liberty play, all action in the room stopped. Eight tables full of gamblers just stopped and watched. When BSU scored, the roar from the sports book shook the walls. Absolute pandemonium.
    Just thinking back to it gives me chills. Such an amazing atmosphere to be a part of and what a hell of a football game!

  • @hugman60
    @hugman60 5 лет назад +49

    Hard to believe that this game was 11 years ago. No one gave Boise State a chance. I did not think that they could beat Oklahoma. But I was rooting for the Broncos that night. When BSU scored the two point conversion in OT to win, I was happy to see a supposed "David" beat the supposed "Goliath." Have been a Clemson fan since 1977. This year's team is very good. But the 1981, who was very good, was given no chance of beating Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Especially since that the Cornhuskers played in the Big Eight in those days. Clemson was in 1981, that weak ACC. But the Tigers in 1981, as the Broncos in 2007, showed they were much better teams that anyone thought that they were. This was why I rooted for Boise State in this game. I can remember a team that I liked who was given no chance. Thank you for sharing this video. It shows that anyone or any group can accomplish anything, as long as they believe in themselves and work hard for that goal. Take Care.

      There were two G5 teams who were CFP quality;
      1. TCU: they got snubbed from CFP spot 1 yr by OSU plus their recruiting was negatively affected by switching conference.
      2. Boise State: They were really good under Chris Petersen. But NCAA was unfair most during most of his tenure. After scandal in the BSU Women's Tennis team and a very minor scandal in football (student athletes provided fellow recruits with meals and beds while visiting campus) the NCAA gave BSU probation for 3 yrs. With Petersen leaving 2 yrs later, it harmed them.

    One thing I've always wondered about this game, that if Marcus Walker had run out of bounds on his pick six at the 1 or so, they could've kneed twice, used both of Boise State's timeouts, and could've kicked a field goal with only 20 seconds or so left. I guess you always want to take the sure points, but still, something to think about.

      I get it. I was 10 or 11 when Kansas lost to Penn State in the Orange Bowl, and nobody but Kansas thought that the Hawks had a chance against the Nittany Lions. KU had the lead late in the game, when Penn State scored to pull within 1. They went for two, and failed...except that KU had 12 men on the field! Penn State got a do over and converted, winning by 1.

Woke everyone up, so my parents made me responsible for getting my sister back to sleep. So I was there in my room, just got her to sleep when boise did the rb pass for the td, and woke everyone up again... Lol... It seems like all huge upsets follow close to the same formula. The underdog hits the favorite in the mouth early on, putting the favorites on notice who respond with a punch that makes it seem like all is well and the contest will end up as planned. Then just when it seems like the Goliath will finally step on David's throat, the underdogs find one last push to be victorious.

    That fucking hook and ladder play is still one of the greatest fucking plays I have ever seen. I remember watching this game live and I can remember everyone in the room saying the game was over when Zabranski threw that pick 6 with a minute left, and everyone saying that it was still an impressive season for Boise, but they never stood a chance against a "powerhouse" team like the Sooners, lol. The few people who were still actually paying attention to the game knew that if there's still time in the clock then anything can happen, but even I thought the Broncos were done when it was 4th and 18 with 18 seconds left, but then they executed one of Football's most majestic looking plays in history, lol. Seriously, every offensive player on the field executed that play to absolute perfection and the result was one of Football's (college or pro) most impressive and beautiful plays ever. When you watch the replay and see it in slow motion, the receiver who caught the lateral and scored fooled everyone on defense, appearing to be set up for a WR screen and delaying for a brief second after the snap while Zabranski used his eyes to make the D think a screen was coming, then turned and threw the ball right in the perfect spot of the Sooners zone S causing all 3 defenders to commit to trying to tackle the initial receiver, giving the other receiver plenty of room and the perfect angle to take the lateral and speed past the 3 defenders who committed to the first WR because they were all 3 completely caught off guard and out of position to tackle the player who took the lateral at full speed with an angle to the corner of the end zone. There have been countless classic plays in college football history, and countless classic overall games, but this game ranks in the top 3 greatest games in football history. It was just a perfect storm to create an amazing and all time great game. If course there was the "David vs. Goliath" that the media hyped up for weeks after the bowl games were set, with a smaller school from a smaller conference going up against one of the most storied schools ever. I have always fucking hated the notion that just because a school is in a conference that is considered a power conference and has a history of being a top program like Oklahoma then a school from a conference considered inferior like Boise state that they don't stand a chance. Nobody gave Boise a half of a chance of winning this game simply because they weren't a big 10 or SEC or ACC team, which is retarded imo. Any team has a chance to beat any other team on any given day. That's what makes Football so much better than basketball or baseball imo. With football teams play each other once instead of a series of games, and anything can happen during a single game. This game will go down as my favorite college game ever because the team considered to be the weaker team who nobody gave a chance came out and beat a team considered a powerhouse, and they did it in one of the most entertaining and exciting games of all time. The whole game was exciting, but the last 2 minutes of regulation and OT were fucking legendary. Boise had the lead all game, then their QB makes the biggest mistake possible, throwing a pick 6 with under a minute and a half left in a tie game, then they get the ball back with less than a minute and face 4th and 18 with 18 seconds left, score an amazing TD, then go to OT and decide to risk their entire season by going for 2 to either win or lose, then pull out another incredible trick play to score the 2 point conversion to win the fucking game. There was even a fucking star RB running down the sideline to find his cheerleader girlfriend so he could propose to her, what more can you fucking ask for!!!! You can't even write a fucking movie with so much drama and triumph and a happy ending with the star player and the cheerleader getting fucking married, lol!!!

    Not a Boise or Oklahoma fan, but this was the greatest college football game I've seen EVER! Just simply the best. One additional note: Boise State almost didn't make it to an undefeated season. They blew out nearly everyone on their schedule except on November 11th, when the Broncos travelled to San Jose State for a Saturday night matchup with Dick Tomey's Spartans. It was a tough low scoring game and midway through the 4th quarter SJS led Boise 20-12. It looked like the Broncos would suffer an upset. Had they lost there would be no possibility of a New Years Day bowl. With 5:21 left Boise scored a TD and a 2-pt conversion to tie the game at 20 and then with :01 on the clock pk Anthony Montgomery nailed a 37-yard field goal to give the Broncos a 23-20 win and preserve their unbeaten status. That's the closest Boise St came to losing in 2006.
    I was standing in the north endzone bleachers at Spartan Stadium and I saw Montgomery's kick sail through the uprights. I was sad that my Spartans lost, but proud of the effort they put forth and how they gave Boise State their toughest fight of the season. So when BSU played Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl it was really special to see the Broncos pull out an incredible win over the Sooners. That Fiesta Bowl was a game for the ages but most people don't know how close Boise State came to losing a game in 2006 and not being in position to get invited to a BCS game.

    The two point conversion pay was a companion play to another play Boise St had run earlier in the year on a 2 point conversion. Out of the same formation Boise had run a screen pass to the top of the formation and knowing Oklahoma would have seen during film study the faked the screen pass and since everybody flowed to the top of the formation Boise sealed off any backside chasers and the running back had a clear lane to the end zone on the 2 point conversion attempt. Brilliant use of a counter to a play already seen on film
