      If people fell in love with ff7 from remake and care about spoilers they should really just play the original, it's on every platform and is obviously an amazing game. I played it for the first time a year before remake came out and it was fun with the 3x speed option

    The developer did an interview on RUclips fully admitting the self awareness of the tropes and cliches and cringe of the story. I got a sense of that before even playing the game thinking there was no way someone could be so tone deaf and I love the story for the cheese factor and how it just breaks up the gameplay of running levels over and over and some of it is genuinely funny either because its a good joke or it's just so cringe. It's my game of the year by a long shot. I've never played anything quite like it. The graphics are amazing with the art style and the music from machinegirl blends so perfectly with it that this game genuinely expanded my genre horizons and I bought the machinegirl soundtrack (2 discs) and other albums from iTunes. I love the world this takes place in and I want to see another game and/or DLC. Don't skip this one. Forget about "cards" being in the marketing and just think fast gunner. I'd say it has more in common with DOOM than it does Hearthstone for example. Cards are just a quick visual way to see what gun you have and it's a quality of life thing that makes it so you can "play" your gun off instinct. It's great to speedrun your own records, global records, and compete with friends. I've been beating every one of my friends scores as I play through and it's made me better at the game. I also love watching the speedrun community because you learn tips and tricks and alternate routes. I heard someone call this game "speedrunning for the rest of us" and I think that nails it. I only recently got into speedrunning this year when I replayed Celeste and this game is one of the best followups. Again...Neon White is easily my game of the year and I don't foresee ANY game beating it for me. It's just so fresh, so polished, so novel, and exactly the kind of game I didn't know I wanted. If you took all the things I'm interested in from music and movies to anime and videogames and put them in a blender it would be something exactly like Neon White. This is a game I would buy the Switch for just because it's exclusive to Switch and PC currently but I already have a Switch so I'm thinking of getting a Steam Deck to run this with a mouse and keyboard. There's other reasons I want the steam deck but this game is just one of many.

    It's so weird to me that having a remake of FF7 spread out across "only" three games is somehow the good outcome. Am I nuts for thinking that this is all needlessly excessive? Do we really need three 70 dollar games to tell the story that fit on three CD-Roms in the 90s?

    • @Jonathan-fw6ty
      @Jonathan-fw6ty 2 года назад +3

      Especially when half of FF7R is "extra content", which is essentially just a bunch of generic fetch quests to pad the lenght of the game and justify the price.

    • @PantsaBear
      @PantsaBear 2 года назад +3

      Its only needlessly excessive if you didnt play the first one, dont really know what youre talking about, or dont want to properly describe the experience of FF7R pt. 1 lol
      I guess spoilers to anyone who hasnt played, but its completely going with a similar but different narrative using the same cast of characters and settings. Not only that, they definitely enhance the heck out of the game down to the minute details (arena tournaments with an actual house boss as well as many other incredible bosses, areas are blown up not just graphically but thematically, combat is significantly better both moment-to-moment and progression-wise, easter eggs like the Happy Turtle theme getting like 10 different renditions with a large budget behind it, and I can really make a list like 100 items long).
      If people dont want to play the remake, thats totally understandable and fine with me, but I would really appreciate the negativity around it stops at this point in regards to this being implied as a balooned game with no substance to justify it being larger. They 100%, without question, found reason to justify it after playing the first game lol. It's definitely a $60-$70 game worth full price. All it comes down to is whether they will stick the landing with the ending of the trilogy (whether they do or don't this will still be an amazing series of quality games either way, so much love and care is put into the moment-to-moment stuff that a bad ending wouldnt ruin it for me and I'm sure many others)

    • @DarkEggplant
      @DarkEggplant 2 года назад

      @@PantsaBear Absolutely. I think you explained well what makes the remake stand on it's own. I'm not discounting that by any means. As someone who's only Final Fantasy-curious, I might not be quite as eager to absorb every morsel of world-building that they added or lore that they expanded upon. Taking a beloved game and turning it into this huge 10-year project just strikes me as a very Square-Enix thing to do, for better or worse. I don't think even a company like Capcom (who was a pretty decent track record with remakes) could get away with something like this.
      I guess the remake saga will have to be judged on it's merits many years down the line. I just don't know if I'm going to be along for the ride because it's such a massive investment.
