Great video! And since everyone here shares my gear addiction, wanted to share I was able snag my white whale guitar this week. I found a Custom Shop Les Paul Class 5 locally and it is literally the guitar of my dreams. Perfect in every sense of what I’ve always wanted in a Les Paul. So I did some trading and brought her home.
Great LP. I missed out on one of those for seventeen hundred quid a couple of years back and it still haunts me. Just did not have enough money at the time.
Good for you mate!!!
I recently found a honeyburst Les Paul for like half price. Exact specs of my dream guitar, heavy as all hell tho. I guess it’s dream guitar month.
Enjoy. What a find.
A classic combination of a Les Paul Standaed and a Bluesbreaker is permanently etched in my brain and I think you pulled it off, said the actress to the Bishop (Fnar Fnar LOL)
😂
I've been jamming with my friend Rod for the past few weeks. He's got Marshall amps and I have become fascinated with the sound. The P-90 SG sounds like heaven through a Marshall, now I get it! Thanks so much for your deep dive. CHEERS Colin, see you next week!
Cheers mate!
FUN! The half of it is the fun you have seeing what your gear can do, bum notes that come up when playing clean like this are a great learning tool as you quickly realize where your technique needs work for any player no matter what level you are in a way that playing dirty doesn't. But that is also half the point of playing, having fun, trying to emulate the great players is a motivator, especially when you get it right. The tones your getting are just great and do sound like the great blues men of times past. Very desired sound for blues.
Clapton's finest hour. I don't think he really got close to that again, not even with Cream. I used to love playing along with that album.
surely 'wonderful tonight' was the finest hour?
That middle position when first hit it I was like oooooh. Yeah 👍 same time you realized it 😅
I agree. After Blues Breakers and Cream, there’s not much Clapton stuff I like. Oh, other than Derek and The Domino’s
@@dbb124 just heroin and racism
@@frankcarter6427how many other people in England were also expressing the same opinions at that time?
Nailed the sound. TBH, what impressed me when I 1st heard that album was the fluidity of his playing, (particularly on 'Little Girl'), not the tone
I don’t think I’ve hit a like button quicker. A Les Paul and a Bluesbreaker is something I’ve adored since the beginning of my playing life. I liked it so much I had a local tech build me a clone and that amp has been with me since 2007 and it’s been on the road and on loads of recordings and live gigs. I’ll never part with it. Cheers!
I bought that album in the summer of 84 I think maybe earlier learned alot from it and it showed me who Otis Rush was . Turns out Otis was miles head of slow hand as vocalist guitarist and songwriter. Now I'm trying to get Otis's earth shattering Fender strat through a fender verb 1958 tone . Thanks Eric😊
😎👍
Agreed
😎✌👍❤🖖
Great gear and great tones. I like the idea of the occasional video chasing classic tones. Thanks.
Would argue The Yardbirds launched Eric’s career, the B side of for your Love got John Mayall interested in contacting Eric. You definitely got close to That sound .
These have a great sound. Mine is a 2002 too!!! 😲 I've found with those old Marshalls diming everything the dialling back the bass works best for that kind of sound. Only works when the amp is at max volume though. Diming the presence, treble and mids gets you as much gain as possible. Dialling back the bass stops some of the flub. Great sound though and love the video! 👌👌
I found the same thing, those old Marshalls are very special if your lucky enough to try one, I was lucky enough to own an Australian built version from the 70s, we had no Marshalls in the stores back then so a lot of stuff was built locally. The amp I had was an ADI VT50 which is very similar to a sound city where they basically built there own version of a Marshall because of import restrictions.
Another great video. And for those of us who can't stretch to a Bluesbreaker amp, also worth watching Dave Simpson's video on recreating the tone with a Boss Katana (at lower volumes too :D )
Agreed😃😎👍
😎👍❤🖖
An MSG Genesis pedal is made especially for the Beano tone and does a great job through an amp set on clean.
Interesting enjoyed this the original had a pair of KT66 valves in the finals which would make a difference. When this was recorded pre desk the signal was run through a valve compressor and post was run through Decca Studio's plate reverb which was partially on the roof and the basement. I had a bluesbreaker which I called the balls breaker due to its weight but was too loud to get that sound on a gig I think the mini Bluesbreaker 18-watt 1974 was a more practical option to get the bluesbreaker tone without damage to your lugs. Thanks for the video it brings back memories
Man you really got close to that Clapton sound... and ripped on that guitar... great video. Cheers
Spot on- great tone, playing and video! Thank you! 😎🎸👍
Excellent stuff Colin. Another very enjoyable video, yet again!
Another amazing video! Those tones are scintillating!!!
That was fun Colin! Sounded really close to the Beano sound! I have 4 different kinds of Blues Breaker pedals on my board so it is always cool to hear the original inspiration for them! thank you!
Colin. As always, another super vid. At the age of 72 I am happy to see that EC is still in the minds and hearts of individuals like yourself. I have been a long time fan of EC. I started out as a drummer at the age of 12. Switched to guitar at 14/15 after hearing EC play and never looked back. Still one of my all time favourite guitarists. The more I listen to his sound the more I find something new to take note of. Thanks again for all you do to bring us your take on guitars, amps and everything in between. Cheers mate. Canada loves your channel.
SG sounding good on the jam-out another great show, find myself looking forward to my friday morning waffling and coffee and your inspiration, thank you
My favourite episode,so far. ❤Love it!
Thanks Colin another great video, a Les Paul and a Bluesbreaker, that's the sound of my youth. Been trying to achieve that sound all my playing life.
Great video......great tone...and it's talking to ya ...alright!!! I especially like the lick at 20:52....great playing. You always keep it interesting, informative and fun!!! Keep up the good work.
Loved this video, perfect way to unwind after a long week at work. Inspired me to go and hunt down this tone, unfortunately I don't have the gibson but have a korean made cherry sunburst Epi from 2002, still to this day one of the first guitars I reach for, it just plays and feels so solid. Thanks for your content, as I've said before best guitar channel on YT by a mile!
Photography is this year's hobby, but I still watch you and one other (not rig run down sales) guitar channel. One very special match made in heaven. I think I might have walked out with both too, LOL. Super playing!!!
All you need now are Eric's hands and musical brain, and the sound will be complete! Another fantastic video, featuring your blatherings about gear, interspersed with some demonstrations of the gear. Keep it up, mate, and we'll all keep watching.
Bloody hell !!, legendary sounds from that Marshall Bluesbreaker combo and the two Gibsons, incredible tones and terrific playing on the video, really enjoyed it, you should do one with a Fender amp and Fender guitars, brilliant stuff today 🎸😄
Great Combination great playing Colin plus the Marshall doubles up as a heater in the winter
One of my favorite videos! My favorite tone is the Beano tone and you captured it. Bravo!
Also, the SG sounded just like Clapton's SG sound in Cream. Well done!
Great video as always Collin!!! Great playing & always enjoy your content & your effort.
Nice playing,Sounds great!
Great playing and video! Bringing out that classic tone that talks! Nice! I was lucky enough to get to play a blues breaker amp in 1976 -not sure what model of BB it was, and was lucky to have a 25th anniversary Les Paul at the time. That is a match that played itself; so I totally get the sound that talks to you! So sweet!
Great video - with a great iconic amp for sure.
Best regards from Denmark
What a great story and sound, thanks😊
You are the man Colin!! Always a new adventure every time....!!!!
Very Cool, Thankyou. Awesome Sound, nailed it. All the best. Cheers
I waited a day so I had time to watch this through. I had this tone ringing in my ears for most of my youth. You’re about as close as anybody could get these days. Great video. I’d like to see if you get close with the modded ‘59 Epiphone.
I absolutely love content like this, thanks Colin for another great video, oh and for putting yet another amp on my wishlist 🙄😄
That was fun! Great tone! Thanks!
Amazing sound!!!!
Thanks for that "classic experiment"
Greetings from Germany!
👋😎🎸
Great vid Colin, definitely that classic sound! Loved the playing definitely got in the zone, great stuff.
Cheers mate!
Some great vintage sounds in there Col. love the SG and it’s story
Crazy, so fortuitous, I was just watching Beano sound videos last night!
Great idea for a video and well done!
Great tones Col - really enjoyed learning about the hallowed Beano tone 😊
5 minutes in and I can already tell I'll be watching this one many more times. Excellent work! Cheers from across the pond...
Jeez, that loop sounded great. Lovely vintage tones mate.
Great video as always Colin !
Beautiful Les Paul, classic amp, your hands, and what a tone! 👌
Very nicely done !!!
only one what I need!! is this channel!! I wish you are well.
Colin, as a new guitar player I appreciate that you show the process along with the mistakes. It helps an inexperienced player to see an experienced player who is willing show the missteps. Love this kind of video that mixes history, guitar playing, guitar talk, amps and amp talk. Thanks for showing the process of dialing in a tone. Very instructive. Please add the outro to Steal My Licks on your TV channel. 🎸🎸👍👍
No worries I will do that! 😁👍
Another brilliant video! Really enjoyed that. I think I'll spin the Beano record later on ☕. Its been awhile
I bought a tele today . Sang some wish you were here...Missing people is painful only because life was so joyful with them . Its hard this time of year, but all we can do is carry on. Merry Christmas. On a lighter note great and fun playing sounding sweet.
Cole, I truly love watching guitar players ENJOY THEMSELVES playing guitar…..you certainly do, mate…..cheers!
You nailed the sound with that Marshall, reverb and attenuator. I was very impressed.
another great video. Thanks! I’m a big slowhand fan so really enjoyed this. Liked the playing too. Good with the LP - but you look so comfy and at home with the SG. Awesome. Best wishes
Cheers, yes SG is my happy place! 😁👍
Great sound Colin 😊👍
This is great. I always wonder about the classic tones
Love it when you just let go and jam, awesome buddy
Best sound you had on your channel so far.
I love this vid Colin thank you 👍🎸🎸👍
Nice one Colin, love your channel mate. You definitely got really close to the Beano sound. I've been a fan of that tone since I first got the vinyl album as a kid in the early 70's. Eventually, around 1977, I was lucky enough to buy a secondhand 1966 script logo plexi head version of the 30w JTM45 and still run it today through an early 80's Marshall 2x12 (model 1936). It's awesome when paired with my LP Std or SG Std.
Nice one! 😁👍🔥
Colin!
Hello again buddy, I love these classic tones wether it be a Gibson or a Fender ( Although I’m still an SG lover ). Sounds brilliant really, I currently don’t own a Marshal even though I love them. I’m using a Friedman Dirty Shirley these days here which I’m very content with although I’d also love to own a Bluesbreaker perhaps one day. Thanks for all your awesome content as always!
Tommy~
Greetings from San Francisco Bay area on a cool Autumn-like evening. Great video, great tones, thanks for the great content.
Very nice!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend colin also the video is my cup of tea 😊
Thanks that's appreciated!
Great job on this one Colin. Though I never had a Burst or a Marshall, that sound was what made me an electric guitarist. In particular, for me it was Peter Green’s sound that got me. Yeah EC with the Bluesbreakers also really got me hooked.
I love the natural Fuzz of the SG. These are the tones i think of when i think of classic rock
Great fun Colin! I would have tried your settings with the LP pickup switch on treble and then roll the tone back a notch or two and you nailed it
quality as usual Colin, quality
👏👏👏👏👏👏
great stuff mate
I need another amp and guitar now thanks 😂. This was a really good episode.
Salut Colin
Great Tone today
I played along with my custom shop non reverse Firebird
Two Burstbuckers and a tonebender for sustain and vibe
Into a Fender champ tubes amp
It was a good 👍 match
My sound was very close to your SG
Thank you for this nice video
Col, your post timing is always perfect for me 4am-ish coffee
Sounding great!
Another special episode in the can.👏👏👏
Had to watch some to hear you swoon over your new LesPaul. Amazing little gadget isn't it? Glad your enjoying it.
Thanks! Yep love mine along with my 68 re issue mutphy lab LP its mt favorite setup.
Colin, I could listen to you play all day, man you are a genius at the guitar, enjoyed the review it was brilliant.
Wow, thanks!... I think genius is stretching it a bit but I very much appreciate the kind words and support! 😁🙏
Great tone
I do love the Beano tone, but that SG! I understood immediately why you walked out of that shop with that pair. Wonderful sounds for a rainy morning.
Colin, you nailed it mate.
How refreshing to see some other guitarist say, " I learn't this yesterday, but I can't do it now".(sic) Thank god for someone who knows and accepts that's how it really is.
I learn't stuff 40 years ago and can't play it now.😳
You nailed the tone though.
this was great!
Nice job Colin. Your tone is great. I think I read that Clapton used a treble booster on that session.
Thanks for this, there aren’t a lot of YT videos with extended playing examples of what a BB actually sounds like. Clapton’s had the Alnico speakers and you can really hear them stressing on the album - big mids push and cone cry as the frequency and dynamic range cave in. It sounds great on the record, but IME Bluesbreakers show their full capabilities best with the greenbacks.
I have a Marshall 1962HW Bluesbreaker. It is my favorite amp that I’ve ever used in my life. Of course, one of the main things I did was to get as close to the Beano tone as possible when I got it. The modern pcb board Bluesbreakers don’t use the same power tubes as the originals. The 1962HW does use the KT66 valves and it makes a huge difference! Another important factor is that Clapton plugged into the Normal channel. He did not plug into the bright channel or jump the channels. Cranking the amp is obviously important. I use a Fryette Power Station 2 always for attenuation and because it has an effects loop. The Beano tone isn’t my personal tone. I jump the channels and plug into both high impedance jacks with a split guitar cable. But it’s awesome to be able to get that Beano tone with just a few knob tweaks and by plugging into the darker channel. You’ve gotta change your EQ settings quite a bit to use that channel but those tones are in there. Thanks for the awesome video!
sweet tones from that combo of both guitars and that amp wowwzerrs!
i had to get my epi LP classic and hook it up to my behringer HA-20R(looks like a little marshall with silver bits instead of gold)....it has an 8in bugara speaker in it...all stock...
played along with a bit of reverb and a lil overdrive and was surprised at how close i got to "that tone"!
hoping to see/hear the vintage "greeny-moore" hooked up to the bluesbreaker in the near future haha!! im cravin it mate!
man i love it when you REALLY jam! can tell whether you're into it or just cutting something for a review. great stuff man! every guitar player on the planet should be subbed to this channel
Thanks mate that’s really appreciated! 😁👍👍
I remember at the start of the year, or there about, you said you had enough of the Les Paul and ever since I got one it seems you can’t get enough of them again and it’s been like a history class on them for me. this was a cool video for another lesson for me on this particular sound.
Yes I appear to be going through a bit of a Les Paul phase! 😂👍
@@theguitaristas I have had my own experience of thinking that the LP was not for me until I got one and have loved playing with it since. SG next soon hopefully, your old videos on SG’s got me looking at Epiphones or a quality made SG or LP or a bargain Gibson if I can find one.
Aloha and Mahalo Todd! The Sound that got Billy Gibbons started on his quest.
Beautiful.
Let's twang, I love it!
Only just started but im instantly into that early mac style intro haha
Ok, Mr Guitarista! I had to re-aquire the "beano" album & that was totally necessary to refresh my memory about that patented "Slowhand Beano vibe" & my findings are: You nailed it! The only thing missing was "The Clap" 😂😂😂 (Eric)
That Beano album Clapton tone and playing has been my inspiration for about 10 years now. I try to get that aggressive but not too distorted sound through a Boss Katana head with greenback speakers. One observation; as with Clayton’s sound on Beano, AC/DC tone is a lot less distorted than you would imagine. So many modern players have way too much fuzz (and reverb) imho, which takes the edge off the hard power! Another thought: I regard Clapton as an Apollonian guitarist while Hendrix is Dionysian. That edge of feedback that Clapton gets is the edge of wild chaos. Hendrix goes beyond those bounds. Thanks for your video 🙏👋
9:41 that LP with the Marshall right there, that’s you…it’s a great little groove. I can tell you’re digging it. I think the LP is a keeper!
Great video as always Colin… I’ve been jonesing for that amp for awhile but haven’t found a used one to my liking. Brand new in the US they’re about $4k. Way beyond my budget… you and I seem to gravitate to a lot of the same gear, although I own a number of Fenders😝😎
Cheers Fred... I do have a few Fender's just not so many Strats! 😆👍
FRIDAY S WITH GUITARISTAS
