Half an RS6 sounds like a real sweetspot for those of us who makes half as much of a potential RS6 customer.
Ditto. I bought a 2003 C5 RS6. Older car, older tech, but still shockingly fast! Good compromise
It looks great too. I love the quad circle exhausts. That being said, a huge detractor for me is Audi cars typically don't handle as well its competition.
Remind me why top gear is not presented by Harris and Catchpole again?! Nice one Henry
Henry won't join a dying company.
Because they wouldn't suit it very well. Top Gear is scripted messing about and slightly offensive humour.
Because it's not much of a car show. It's a variety and travel show with shenanigans.
@@iHaveTheDocuments the BBC is not a dying company.
....because TG is a gameshow.
Maths with Henry
Hmm isn’t half an RS6 a RS3? Half of 2x is 1x, not 1 I suppose.... anyway...
RS3 with the 5 cyl definitely pushes it (both literally and figuratively) beyond being half an RS6. Also the reason why an RS3 is amazing bang for the buck since a modded one will easily be one of fastest Audis out there with little effort.
"It (engine) sounds better in here than outside". That's a another trick I'm not fond of. Reminds me of placing baseball cards in the tire spokes of my bicycle - when I was 5 !
I agree but think how much worse it will be with soundless EVs
Same here, engine sounds rubbish, so let's put fake sound inside mentality 🤦♂️
Tree hugging Green brigade probably happy though.
Ah, cards in the spokes! Happy memories. I used plastic yoghurt cartons, cut into strips. Made a more aggressive noise! 😁
@@trisbonky 😂
Those rims are gorgeous!
Solid call on the Cadbury
Nice to see Henry yet again sharing the delights of Milton Keynes and the surrounding area!
Why I love CARFECTION over other YT car reviews?
Because Henry and Harris are not trying to show off their latests acquisitions. Catchpole presents not only with knowledge but also with passion. Also, they are under 15 minutes
swapping Cadburys for Hersheys definitely a smart move
Hershey’s is fucking awful
@Morty P Speaks volumes on how awful Hershey's is
Hershey’s are woeful
@@SiamHossain7 hahahaha fair comment 👍🏼
Thanks again for the nice videos Henry, they're made with real love, which is highly appreciated.
If it was also half the weight of the RS6 this car would be killer.
If you don't mind losing out on all the comfort and safety features. I'm not going to judge your idea of a daily sporty hatchback.
@@neokgatla who needs that useless safety trash as long as it has seatbelts I feel fine.
@Daytona Grey TTRS A lot of people use this as their daily family car. Why not just get a BRZ for that type of fun?
@@neokgatla and why shouldn‘t it be good as a daily family car?
What's this? Sunshine in the UK? Amazing!
Love to see the S Audi with the manual option again
Always enjoy your narrative, even if the car is a little dull its fun to listen to.
The quality of the videos never ceases to amaze me
I think this has been a bit of a foot in mouth moment from VAG.
The S3 was always just a Golf R with a nice interior. But the new R is far more performance oriented with its fancy torque vectoring and drift mode (with performance pack).
Personally I don’t think Audi’s new design language translates to its smaller cars well and prefer the looks of the new Golf. The interior however I really like (apart from the touch screens).
I have to agree, I've owned the previous gen S3 Black edition for 3 years...and would not buy the latest one. I feel there are too many cost cutting issues and the Golf R now has more power and a cleverer 4 wheel drive system. Sadly they both have touch screen systems which are crap to use on the move...the MMI rotory control and virtual cockpit in my car is fantastic..what a step backward. 😕
@@douglasb.5601 Yeah I like the old rotary control.
New s3 saloon defo looks better than the golf R though , and in real world performance wouldn’t be much different tbh
@@SH7SH7SH7 IMO the saloon doesn’t look any better. Go check out CarWow’s latest video to see the performance difference in terms of speed. The performance aspect I’m talking about is driving dynamics and the fancy new torque vectoring in the Golf will make a huge difference. I’ve also just realised that the RRP of the new S3 is actually less than the new R now too which makes it even weirder.
It feels like Audi can’t really be arsed with the S3 any more.
Can't wait for the RS3 review
Such a beautiful car! The color is very nice too! :D
I find touchscreens unnecessarily distracting. Why do I have to take my eyes off the road to adjust the headlights? It's just a simple little wheel next to the steering column in my Clio, but hidden in submenus of submenus in the Golf 7 I have my driving lessons in.
Its an excuse to bump up the price while also cost cutting. I have a 14 yo alfa 147 and I dont need to click 25 screens to do something
That interior sound sounds very artificial, and not lika a 4-cyl either.
Just be glad it's not a diesel like the new S4 and S5.
Yeah man, fuck having 350 hp, insane torque and still getting 6-8l/100km
@@dwade3202 yep, fuck diesels. They sound like tractors with fake exhausts
Speaking of concrete let’s talk about the ride quality. Lol classic Henry. Love it. Thx
Does not feel like your heart was in that one. Maybe that’s Audi.
You put out the best car reviews. The content/production is first-rate!
That Doug DeMuro opening of the vid though!
Henry: “Who needs America?” - you know what, I agree with you 😂
im not
You can set the favourites button on the steering wheel to be drive select btw
Definitely the Business Class Hot Hatch with Audi, no ridiculous bodywork and kits, especially in that colour
Is this the same exact power train as the new golf r mk8?
Awesome video as always!
liking the bang & olufson
That last shot into the sun... Phwoar. Just peachy boys!! Great work as per
Hen..fiction...ry!!!, love the car, love the in-depth review, keep them coming. Thanks
As someone who lives in the desert southwest of America, I am simultaneously happy to know you did that part of our country right, but also unhappy we don't get the S3 hatch. I know that's not your fault, but I don't have a hundred grand plus to get the RS6.
'who needs America?' ...Agreed. But America NEEDS an S3 5 door. PLEASE AUDI!
Europe...in both World Wars...for a start. Currently, everyone who doesn't want China or Russia to be the supreme world power dictating terms to them.
@@JasonWaterfalls13 can’t argue there... we still need better cars, tho
I bet cars feel bad when they let Henry down.
Would you pick this or a Golf R? I guess typically Golf R is for people who want a little more driver involvement /excitement - assume this hasn’t changed ?
I wish we'd get the estate version in the States. Only 288 HP here too....
Fantastic review, loved the style of this one! Comparing with a previous Audi review - nicely done.
sounds better inside because of the soundaktor under the scuttle panel
Not sure what VAG are doing by positioning the Golf R above the S3 by giving it more power...
The hard plastic on the inside of the doors, certainly isn't quality!
Mercedes and audi have decreased their material quality inside. There is a huge difference between 2016 and now. I bought a TT and then a Q5 and I see a lack of quality
Cost savings, profit before customer
Wolverton. Always wanted to visit there..... said..... not too many actually.
Wife has the 18 plate s3, couldn’t be happier with it. We have zero interest in the new car, think it’s over styled and not understated enough.
Totally agree. I have the same car. Exterior styling is bland. Audi currently seem over focused on ‘dancing’ lights!
I have an '18 as well, I miss the round vents in the new one. I was really hoping the next gen would sort of take the interior from the TT, massage it a bit (add second screen, etc.), and drop that into the new car. But no, they went full-angular instead. Boo.
@@vomErsten easily class leading interior in the previous gen! Not that I’m a merc man but the new a45 smashes this out the park!
@@akerr911 I cannot disagree with you, the A-class interior is outstanding.
not a big fan of the A3, but this looks fantastic
Best looking hatchback at the moment
Can't be the only one who thinks so many cars at the moment are overstyled? The old M3/M4 & S3/RS6 look so much better than their current iterations. I know looks are subjective but to me so many look poor at the moment
yeah the styling is a bit too busy imo
Looks awesome
Does it have different awd compared with new Golf R?
Will wait for the RS3 Sportback
Welcome to my part of the country!
The car doesn’t really interest me, but the mini/budget road trip was great 😂
You would love the Cupra Formentor steering wheel...
The only thing I like about this car vs the older version is the placement of the cup holders. I would still pay for a full RS6
Do you remember the placement of the cup holder in the 2nd generation A3? Right above the CD/radio! Had to replace the whole stereo unit because of that..!!
You're RS6 video in snow covered death valley & vegas nights was your best video last year....
New RS3 review plz
so the "five" is gone? :(
No, the 2,5 l five-cylinders is used in the RS3. The upcoming RS3 as well
Why does this look like theQ model so much? The wagon is that big?
Interesting. Wish we could get this in the states.
Came here to say the same thing. Glad I’m not the only one. Specially from the rear quarter.
The last gen A3 had a shortcut button on the steering while which looks like a *. You can set this up to flick through the different driving modes. However there was no touchscreen so annoyingly you'd have to cycle through by pressing the button repeatedly... or you could reach down to the dial in the centre console which kinda defeated the object of it being close to hand.
Fancy adaptive dampers are all fine and dandy; until you have to pay to replace them since they are wear parts after all. But then again, I'm still irritated by electric windows. The cranks were perfectly adequate, and very rarely broke. At east half the tech they have added to cars since fuel injection has been not worth the cost in added complexity IMHO.
Still the most beautiful and well thought out content creator around.
Haha I wouldn't describe him as beautiful but you do you
If you like this cahnnel you might like Late Brake Show and Harry's Garage.
@@Punisher9419 yeah totally agree
@@Chiefmucka Hahahaha...i mean the content...the content...hahaha
I used to have an A3 TDi and the ride was that bad I'm genuinely wondering whether the packing springs were left in.
Do you ever get confused switching from left hand drive to right hand drive ?
What,fake 5 cylinder sound🤨?
Cant wait for the new RS3.
I love this S3 8Y. Looks so much sharper and modern. And the interior is the best in the class.
Hmmm. Damning with faint praise. As usual, video and presentation are top notch.
Nice video guys. But your editors keep sneaking in a short b-roll clip with horrendous rolling shutter (See 04:07) -- is this like a inside joke or am I paranoid? I also noticed this in the recent M4 video, just a tiny little b-roll clip with this "effect"..?
I couldn't notice the effect you're talking about but I did notice the interior was dirty during the slow mo close ups of the details.
I think that's a real shame, all it takes is some interior cleaner spray and a microfibre 🤷🏻♂️
How does the new clubsport do against this on windy roads?
Understated and just right
Hi Mate,
Can you do a Review on the BMW M340i???
Thank god.... Henry.
I think audi have really nailed the styling recently
I like an Audi but would rather save a bit of money and get a GTI with a conventional manual trans. Also, as an American I always think British country lanes look lovely and someday hope to drive on them. Death Valley is too hot.
Interesting that the leather clad S3 is now £2k cheaper than a cloth upholstered Mk8 Golf R.... although I suspect that VW has spent more on perfecting the mechanical bits.....
Henry got good maths skills
I like that you're not trying to be Top Gear
At risk of repeating myself, Touch-screens have NO PLACE in any performance car. These cars should be about driving and not silly tablet menus. Also, why are these manufacturers copying the worst design elements like that awful gear selector? A total turn-off.
Great Vid & review though Henry, as usual.👍🏻
Pity the video is missing what about the rear sits and area; some people we have kids and find it key finding how it looks, what about rear space, what about heating back sits.
As a German people would say, schade : (
Quite a lot of hard plastic, and blind buttons in the interior. That’s considered “premium” these days?
Why didn't you review the Sian???😡😡
07:28 those scratchy plastics though....
Looks so much better than the last gen s3
Does Audi use fake engine noises? I feel like nowadays you can’t comment on the ‘sound of an engine’ without clarifying if the sound is actually coming from the engine.
I think they all do to some degree
They are doing some interesting things with prices at VAG. This is not only cheaper than the new Golf R but also slightly cheaper than the front wheeled drive GTI Clubsport ... which doesn’t really make sense.
S3 is slightly more expensive than Golf R.
How is this half?? In Australia RS6 is 250k S3 is 70k, it is tripled
Thank your gov't taxes etc. for all that....
does is have the same torque vectoring unit at the bag as the mk8 golf r?
Don’t think so mate
This or the Mk8 Golf R???
Golf R. When this S3 gets refreshed to get the mechanical bits from the R, then I'd say S3.
Carfection is undoubtedly the thinking (wo)man's car channel. Always an articulate and detailed synopsis. Q: Would Clarkson use the word "nuance?" A: er.. possibly not.
And there you have it. Thanks Henry - spot on.
"Swapping Hersheys for Cadburys" - The best reason NOT to do it in the US! :D
Can someone explain how this is different than the Golf R, aside from badge and exterior styling?
10 more horsepower. The performance pack R has a torque vectoring rear diff, a drift mode and a nurburgring mode. Mind you, the golf has a worse interior despite having better paddle shifters.
2:55 - Where Henry gets his last name
After paying £1600 for a gearbox issue on my A3 recently and it having done only 25K miles, never buying an Audi again. Not to mention the piston ring issues, misfiring cylinders, bad dealer experiences, start/stop having a mind of it's own, DAB signal cut out when reversing, thin paint, misaligned driving position, firm ride, the list goes on. May look nice (not really), but the engineering is poor. Sure it has high brake horse power, torque, 0-62s in a time that doesn't matter, blah, but if your car stops working in the middle of the road its no better than a post box.
The front is Hyundai. Fake sound is better than the exhaust sound...what are we doing here?
anyone elses carfection videos not showing up in subscriptions? I thought it had unsubscribed me cos they stopped appearing for me, same for this one. i had to search the channel
Is there an eight cylinder engine in the RS6 :D
Yes. Same V8 you get in cayenne turbo and Lambo Urus
Cadbury’s is American as well FYI 😃
So it’s a performance car that doesn’t feel particularly special or interesting, so what’s the point in it then?
I'll have to agree..it's a stunning looking car..in that color and spec..💪👊
Weight is irrelevant if a big lad of 100kg is driving it. Had one a few years ago and it almost broke my back it was that stiff.
I am that big lad of 105kg and 6’3” hence I looked at an 18 plate S4 a few years ago. Suffice to say let down by the Audi dealership (and bearing in mind I had an A4 estate to px) I headed back to my old brand...
So if I was to say 18 plate GLA45 I wonder what the reaction would be. 375hp 4WD and enough room to carry life’s crap and no need for fake interior sounds. Comments only if you’ve driven one.... now that really will thin it out!
