This was the first movie I ever saw in theaters. I was like 5 years old at the time and a big Godzilla fan. I still like watching it every once in a while.
That’s cool! Unfortunately I missed seeing it in theaters. I was also about 5 when it came out, but I didn’t get to see it until after it was on DVD. I hope in a couple of years they rerelease it for its 20th anniversary!
I spent 6+ weeks going through roughly 20 hours of footage from production diaries, bonus features, interviews and more to creat this film. Comment, like, and feel free to share! What’s your favorite Jack Black movie?
I need to rewatch this film again, so thank you for the inspiration. My favorite Jack Black movie (and I haven't seen that many) is the first Jumanji reboot
Had no idea there was ever any controversy over casting Black as Denham. I don't even like Jack that much, he's a big, cartoonish, overblown clown, but that's perfect casting for Denham, who is a con man who lucks into the REAL THING. Perfect casting. Watts does a stellar Chaplin routine, too. How could I NOT love this movie?
I personally LOVE Jack Black, but I understand his humor is not for everyone! I agree with you that he was the perfect casting for Denham and Watts was stellar in the movie!
That’s understandable, it is the longest video I have on RUclips. This was a passion project for me, but I’m going to try and keep my videos around 10 minutes or under. My next one is on Matthew Broderick, and I think it’s going to be under 10 minutes. I can see why it would be hard to commit to a half hour video though if one of the key people in it is not someone you’re a huge fan of :)
I don't remember being more invested in a video essay than i've got watching this one. Congrants for the awesome work!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! 😊
Wow, I'm kinda surprised you don't have more views. The quality of the work here is stellar!
Thank you so much, that means a lot! I’m trying to build my audience up, but it’s been a long process.

I wasn't aware that they rebuilt all of 1930's time square for the movie! Excellent video my guy!
Thank you, Tim! The amount of work they put into all of the set pieces is incredible! Like Jack Black, the New York set is my favorite.
I think this might be your best doc yet!
Thank you SO MUCH Chad!!! 😁

he's certainly an unusual choice for carl denham but hack black did a great job as a more unhinged denham
Randomly found this video, top notch work! Can’t believe there was any controversy around his casting, i saw the film when I was 8 and loved it!
Thank you, I appreciate it! I was surprised to find out about the controversy of his casting as well, I love the movie too!

Dear me, “why this video?”
I mean, what a rabbit hole.

Sorry but I remember when RUclips cut vids to 10 minutes. I'm not watching 3x that over jack black
