    My RUclips channel has grown a lot in the past year thanks to each and everyone one of you that has watched, subscribed, and commented here on YT! Today, I'm launching something I've wanted to do for a long time-- collector spotlights.
    I love hearing collectors stories and have wanted to showcase them for a long time now. My first Spotlight Collector post is the woman who started me on my doll collecting journey-- my mom. This video isn't meant to show you every doll she owns, though you'll see a lot. Collectors are all very different and I love learning about them-- why they collect, when they started, etc. This is what I decided to ask my mom for this Spotlight Collector post!
    dollyconfession...
    Comment below with questions, thoughts, etc. For this video, all comments will have to be okay'd by me before they go live and I have disabled the ability to embed.
    Enjoy this spotlight video!

    I'm in the rare situation where my mom (as you've seen) collects dolls, so it wasn't weird that I collected, too. All I can say is don't be ashamed of your hobbies. They're yours and who cares if other's don't understand it. So carry on and collect to your hearts content!

    Thanks for the comment! I've collected dolls my whole life, just like my mom. There will always be people who just don't understand doll collecting. But there are a ton of people out there that DO, like everyone that has commented here on this video!

    Thanks for this video, your mom is such an angel. I'm almost 40 yrs old & I'm in the process of moving- I have a very large doll collection,& was indecisive about whether I should keep, sale or give away my doll collection, but after seeing your mom & the passion she has for her dolls inspire me to keep my babies(lol)- I agree with her about the happy, warm feeling you receive by having them around. Thank you & your mom again & God bless!!!

    I love this video. It is one of my favorite RUclips videos I have ever watched. You had so many great things to say to any doll collector,big or small. You have a wonderful collection. Your Victor/ Victoria doll is adorable. It is so nice that you will be keeping her in the family and the story behind her.

    Wow, you've got the BEST MOM EVER! :) My mom would buy me dolls at times, but not many really, she thought they were waste of money ;) But now that I'm an adult collector I made that up for myself and mom accepted my passion :) Anyways, you girls are so lucky to share the love for dolls! It's so rare that a parent and a child share this kind of interest. Your mom rocks, Kewpie, thanks for introducing her to us and I hope you invite her more often for vids; I'd like to hear her Barbie stories :)

    WOW!!! This is an awesome and beautiful doll collection!!! You have so many and many different varieties!! I watched your daughter's collection and she wrote to me and told me about your video! There are sooo many different kinds of dolls in your collection! Some I haven' t seen before! I do also collect dolls; but my collection is not that big, but I love and enjoy a lot when I get another doll! They are so fun and interesting! They represent so much about human nature, plus you can remember many episodes of your life when you look at each doll. It is really nice now days that we can buy dolls through the internet, but the only bad thing is that some are so expensive. I like to find them also in garage sales or re-sale stores; and of course brand new at the stores.Some I leave in the box because I like the whole packaging and set up of the doll, it is very artistic plus keep them clean and easy to display; the only minus is that they take up too much room. I love and enjoy watching peoples' collections and reviews of their new dolls in youtube!! Thank you for such a nice tour of your collection; it would be so fun to see your whole collection in person! One question: Who are those two dolls in 12:6 at the end of your video? They are very pretty!! Keep collecting and making new videos.

    I know I'm 9 years late lol but just in case you see this since I recently discovered your channel. . .both of you have lovely collections! I've super enjoyed getting to see them.
    I love the Arwen from Lord of the Rings Barbie doll I see in the thumbnail! I think she's lovely, I've seen the set she's from and low key wanted her.
    And I even saw one set I have! The Tommy and Kelly dolls dressed up as the Mad Hatter and Alice from Disney's Alice in Wonderland! I have them, too. I've set them aside to take photos with when I read the book Unbirthday, an Alice in Wonderland retelling. I also have a Kelly set that is Dorothy and her three friends from the Wizard of Oz.
    I don't seriously collect the way you do, but I do have a small collection of dolls special to me. Five American girl 18 inch dolls, the historical ones, that were mine from when I was a little kid and I still have. I'm getting to be very glad I kept them. Molly and Kirsten are the first two I was ever given when I was little, and they're consequently in the worst (But not too terrible) shape since I played with them the most and had them when I was the youngest. The latter three, Julie, Nellie and Kit, are in significantly better condition and their hair is good and really nice unlike the other two. Since I got them when I was a bit older. I love them and those books started me on my lifelong love of history... I have a few of the mini 6 inch AG dolls too which are Emily, Kirsten and Josefina.
    I also have a couple nostalgic Barbies (not the biggest Barbie fan otherwise but I love these because they were from travels and are really nostalgic and beautiful). one is Chinese and is in full traditional dress. She also holds a sword and has a dragon symbol on her sleeve and a medal around her neck, so she really reminds me of a Mulan even though she isn't officially. I think my Mom got her for me at a Chinese culture day since my sister is adopted from China. The Other one says Miss Jamaica on a sash she wears and she was brought home for me from Jamaica by my Mom when I was a kid. she went there for my cousin's wedding. Her box braided hair and dress are absolutely beautiful.
    Finally, I have a couple because they have red curly hair, like me, so people have given them to me.
    Last but not least, Madame Alexander. I have 9 small 5 inch ones from Mcdonald's toys when I was a kid including a Peter Pan, Pinnochio and a few Wizard of Oz ones. They're really cute for small fastfood toys and still have the blinking eyes! And two recent additions are bigger collectible Madame Alexander dolls: the White Witch and Lucy from the Chronicles of Narnia! They were grail additions to my collection and I was so happy to find them. It's one of my favorite series and I was so happy to find them!
    Oh and I almost forgot: the SpinMaster Hermione doll from Harry Potter that I believe you reviewed on your channel in another video. Except mine is the one with the second outfit (jeans and pink jacket) and multiple accessories including her potion bottle, wand, cauldron, cat, and school uniform.
    Anyway thanks for sharing and I hope you enjoyed hearing a little about my collection :) And I'm 24, so at an odd in between age of being an adult but younger than either of you, so it's interesting to hear your tips since you've been at it longer, though I only get a few things meaningful to me rather than seriously collecting like you do.

      Thanks Kewpie ^_^. I saw your pink haired Giggles doll - she is absolutely adorable! Was that a big challenge - re-rooting her and where did you get your hair for her? I have a Betty Big Girl I need to re-root and am anxious about it as I have never done this before. Thanks for any advice. She is in my doll collection video - is you wan to see her.Take care ^_^ Sho

    • @Kewpie83
      @Kewpie83  10 лет назад

      I'll have to check it out! Re-rooting big dolls is so much fun. I enjoy it more than doing Barbie's, actually! I buy my hair at dollyhair.com. She sells it in hanks.
      Giggles was really easy to re-root, no problems at all. I wish they were more affordable so I could make myself a Giggles! I would recommend picking up the re-root tool that Dollyhair sells. I use it for all my re-roots. I can't even imagine re-rooting a large doll head without it!!!
      Definitely look at the needle sizes and judge what kinds you'll need for the dolls head if you do get the tool!
      Good luck!!!!

    • @ShosyLeigh
      @ShosyLeigh 10 лет назад

      Thanks for the great info - can I ask also, do you remove the head and do you tie a knot on the end of each set of hair strands? And do you glue each one to keep them in place? Where did you pick up your ideas and technique from? I am just nervous to do it incorrectly. Thanks so much again ^_^.

    Love! Great advice too. I bought a limited edition Cinderella Madame Alexander and kind of regret it because although she's gorgeous, I kinda only got her because she's 1 of the 3,000 and assumed one day she could be worth a little bit. Then I thought about what your mom said and yeah I'm just going to collect only what I love and want, and not think about investment.

  • @elviswjr
    @elviswjr 10 лет назад

    I mainly collect current generation My Little Ponies, so it may be a bit different, but one thing I've found, and something I like about collecting is that although I only buy what I like, I sometimes end up with items that are rare, limited edition, etc. and I often don't even know it until later. For example, I went to a local store and bought two of the same pony, Diamond Rose for $5 each. I opened one and kept the other in the package. A year or two later I read something about her being rare, so I looked her up on eBay and now she's going for $25-$45 unopened! It's a nice surprise, but like I said, I only buy things I like, so I don't intend for it to be an investment, but it's nice to know that she's worth more anyway.

    @John Obremski, I don't know anyone personally looking for items. I think you should check out the doll auction sites, especially if you have dolls that are considered vintage. Sites like Dollbid (which is brand new) and Ruby Lane are good places to check out if you want to sell them , but don't want to mess with eBay.

    Hi Cat French. I've been mulling over how to reply to your comment... It sucks that even though you want to support your doll collecting, you still aren't allowed to. I feel for you! It's my opinion that once you start earning your own money, no one can really tell you how to spend it. If you're not working, I have heard from some people that just showing their loved one's videos like this spotlight, my own spotlight, or other doll collectors videos has opened their eyes a bit.

I also collect and have quite a variety.I sometimes ask myself why I like dolls...I am not completely sure but like you mentioned , they make me happy. I like sewing for them and changing their outfits seasonally. I have started a blog (pleasentpossibilities.wordpress.com) which only has a couple pictures and entries as I have never tried something online like this before. Thanks for sharing, I truly identify with what you had to say.😃

    I'm a starter collector and I watched your other videos and considered the tips but I'm still stuck! What are ways that you figure out which doll to choose?
