Replacing the Relay behind the head light is pain to get a wrench on - you will need about 3" long T20 to get to it. I used one that looked like L shape, like an allen wrench, and 3" t20 that is used for screwing in deck. I did see a long 3/8 t20 but I couldn't find one at the store. it took a couple of hours with the wrong tools and 15 min with the correct tools.
Hey I just wanted to tell you something... I caught your video by accident and I saw that you had the same issues that I did so I tried to do what you did.... however.... what I noticed is that I have two of those relays.... I could not find anything or any area near the horn or headlight... NO place just had one so I just kept replacing one and then seeing if it worked then replace the other and to see if it worked and eventually I replaced one and it works however ...I don't know if I should replace the other one just to be on the safe side or if it's one of those things where if it's not broke don't fix it but I did want to thank you for the video because nobody knew what this was and nobody can figure it out and I had really really good mechanics looking at this even had Jeep dealerships and they said they had no idea... they were telling me to buy new fans and everything for $700.... and no error codes come up on the machine ..... no error codes.... nothing .....that's when I started to think that it was the issue that you had and made me more confident to go by this part which where I live .... there was only ONE place that had it and it was 43 miles away and they only had 2, I had to drive there in my pajamas to get it....THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO.....NICK
Thanks for the video Jim. I recently purchased a 2008 JK and after a handful of outings the Jeep overheated while in the yard. I was washing her and wasn't sure why at first, but eventually noticed the fan wasn't working. I troubleshot it and your post was very helpful! I replaced the relay (NAPA part # AR7260) for $22.45 and it was fixed! Thanks again.
I just wanted to make your life simpler by offering you a simple hack. If you are ocd like I am and like everything buttoned down , before putting the relay back I cut a slot so I don’t have to remove the screw completely . I did the same for the horn.
that for 2007 up 10 i guess 2012 bsied the maste rbreak cylngerd found but my fan still give en error Cooling Fan 2 Control Circuit Low and Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit Low
There is a single bolt that holds the relay mounting bracket onto the body of the Jeep. You will need a flashlight to be able to see it. Also, seems like I had to use a flathead screwdriver to help get the wire plug loose.
it's pretty small and black and really hard to see. use a flashlight and a small mirror. look for wires wrapped in black tape and follow the wire bundle. it's hidden pretty good , as i recall under the horn. if it is not there, i don't know where it would be located but you might be able to follow wires from the fan too locate it.
Do more research. Our fans in the 3.6L do not use any relays. It's a PWM setup. There's 3 wires in the actual fan plug. When connected to the harness that goes to the TIPM, the signal wire from the fan is paired with a wire in that bundle that has a fusible link wired straight to the positive battery terminal. There is no need for a relay. I wish there was more info on 2012+. EVERYTHING I read tends to be for the 3.8L.
First make sure your coolant is filled, but may have a stuck fan relay. Try tapping on it with the handle of a screwdriver. Or perhaps your temp sensor is bad and always reading hot.
@@brianthayer8892 Yes, you will likely need a flash light to see it . A single screw holds the fan relay mounting bracket to the back of the grill... but you may have to loosen up the windshield washer reservoir and the horn to get enough room to get at the fan relay. I think my replacement cost about $30 last year.

@@JimThomasOutdoors thanks for helping. I can’t find the relay. U sure it’s on the washer fluid side. Only thing with a single screw is the impact sensor on the back of the headlight bracket

Ha ha ! That's funny... thanks for the comment !

Will this prevent overheating?
Hi I have a same problem the fan is not working at all , was trying to locate the relay now and I could not see it but will try in the morning

It didn’t work, changed the fan relay and the fan still goes on? I’ve already replaced the radiator, what else is there? I don’t like Jeeps!

i dont seem to have a relay in my 2015 JK!!! is it located eksewhere?

Might be a different spot for the 3.6 wranglers after 2012

@@mcofer0980 Correct. I've updated my comment with an article I found a few days after posting my comment.
Do you know where it would be in a jeep renegade I’ve been struggling
I’m having a similar problem but only when i start the Jeep. The fan stays on high speed all the time. Cold or hot. Any ideas

My fans stays on 90% of the time , what causes that problem??
Hmmm, not sure on this one but I would still suspect the fan relay, however your temperature could be sending a high temp reading to the fan relay.
I think it is a condenser of fan
Part number ?
Look at 0:58 it should show a part number on the box from NAPPA
Thanks 😊
