  • I'm currently inside the Dollar Tree Store in Morton Grove, Illinois. If you're unaware of the incredible deals you can snag for just a few dollars here, you must have been living under a rock! However, due to inflationary pressures, the Dollar Tree will soon be raising its prices, with some items even reaching up to $7. Personally, I'm skeptical about this strategy, but let's embark on a tour before the store undergoes further changes.
The Dollar Tree has a rich history dating back to 1953 when K.R. Perry launched a Ben Franklin variety store in downtown Norfolk, Virginia, later renamed K&K 5&10. In 1970, alongside Macon Brock and Doug Perry, K.R. Perry expanded with K&K Toys, eventually growing to over 130 stores. Simultaneously, K&K 5&10 flourished. In 1986, Macon Brock, Doug Perry, and Ray Compton expanded their discount stores with Only $1.00, starting with 5 locations and quickly expanding, primarily in enclosed malls. Following the sale of K&K Toys to KB Toys in the early 1990s, the owners reinvested in their dollar store operations. By 1994, the discount stores were unified under the name Dollar Tree Stores, and within a year, the company went public on the NASDAQ exchange.
