Would you say this area is still recovering from war damages due to Turkish-Kurdish conflicts? Maybe the stigma Turks have against Kurdish residencies has its roots there.
I have heard that new construction is now allowed in the area, perhaps to keep the history because the area is amazingly beautiful. Most of the buildings dates back to Ottoman's times.
