Very encouraging to hear someone so enthused with their teaching and explanations! But I am a tad confused at the comments you get sometimes.

That was awesome - I did not understand all of it - but some tings that you presented eventually made sense to some of my "discoveries" on my fretboard (without actually knowing, what I was doing - I just liked the sound).
Thank you for trying to break this into chewable pieces!

The basic three chord blues is simple and fun to play....but when I began to expand on it with different chords and extensions (even as far as a different chord with every beat) I entered the world of jazz/blues which was a real mind opener and changed my view of music and knowledge of the guitar forever!

Learn the DOMINANT pentatonic...use it as a SKELETON over each chord.
Treat each chord as a TONE CENTER.
      I personally play the BLUES VARIATION 3 ( 3 -ea passing/option notes)
      R...x....2....x.....3.................5.............b7...x....R ( dominant)
      R..x....2....x......3................5...x...6.................R MAJOR
      R.............b3...x....4....x......5.............b7...x.....R min
      R..x...2.................4....x......5.............b7..........R netural (b7)
      R...x 2.................4....x......5...x...6..................R..netural maj6
These are the DOMINANT ish MODES from various scales.
you can use to MODULATE over
      Mix
      mix #2
      Mix #4
      mix #2, #4
      Mix b2
      Mix b6
      mix b2, b6
      Mix b2, #4
      aeo b4
      dor b4
      phr b4
      loc b4
      ion #6
      lyd #6
      lyd #5 #6
      Lyd #2 #6
      Lyd #2, #5, #6
You can also use the FULL DIMINISHED H/W
      dorian b2, #4 AND Lydian b2, b7 = full diminished H/W
I PERSONALLY USE this, NOW...it basically has b3 and Maj3..
If I need to play the other 4 notes..they;'ll simply be OPTIONAL to me.
or the other dominant ish modes...I dont over think it...when I improves...
Even I play it over Minor chords...I'll simply lean on or stress the second
arpeggio of the chord to harmonize accordingly...even if I played
the b3 and Maj3 in the same riff/licks...ect
      chord such as 1, 3, b7, #9...are simply that....The #2 ( b3) is stack in the second
      octive.
Sometimes...I'll simply leave out the b3 or maj3...( that's what the nutural are for)
or play is over SUSPENDED b3 or maj3.
      minor chords
      aeo
      aeo maj6
      aeo b2
      aeo b2. b5
      aeo b5
      aeo #4
      aeo b5. bb6....
or you can keep track of other scales like this,
There's 7 modes in each scales
      aeo
      aeo Maj7
      dor maj7
      phry Maj7
      mix Maj7
      loc Maj7
      aeo b2 Maj7
      aeo #4 maj7
      aeo b5 maj7
      dor b2 Maj7
      dor #4 maj7
      dor b5 Maj7
      aeo b2 #4 Maj7
      aeo b4 Maj7
      dor b4 maj7
      Ion #2, b6
Mode terms are SIMPLY INTERVAL IDENTIFICATIONS
      lyd = ion #4
      mix = Ion b7
      ion b2...= ion b2
      ion #6 = ion #6
      aeo
      aeo maj6
      aeo b2
      aeo b2, b5
Lyd b7 = Ion #4, b7....keep it simply like that.
      Mix #2, #4 = Ion #2, #4, b7

Well there’s no more tension than having a cat and dog sharing a couch yet it seems to work out in your house. So maybe the tension between seventh chords works out after all.

Cool explanations. It seems weird to say the maj7 is more pleasant sounding than the (dominant) 7 when the maj7 includes a semitone interval, though.

Every 7th chord contains a flatted 5th interval.

    • @markjreed
      @markjreed 4 года назад

Yup. Lots of ways to slice it up. I think of it as three thirds stacked: the major third from 1-3 + the minor third from 3-5 + another minor third from 5-b7. But it's also two overlapping fifths, a perfect fifth from 1-5 and a flat fifth from 3-b7 .

Blues aint nothing but a good man feeling bad.
Yep still stuck on the 1987 movie Crossroads. Ralph Machios best movie, yet everyone only remembers him as The Karate Kid. Props to Machio. Best guifakist in the world lol
His fake guitar skills far surpass his fake martial arts skills. Great movie. Anyone who reads this comment and hasn't watched the movie...... Go watch the movie what are you still doing here. If you have watched it before........ Go watch it again what are you still doing here??? Hahahah
