I love how ecstatic the narrator is trying to appeal to kids watching, while there’s a noose swinging in the background..
He knows he’s got a date with that same noose if he doesn’t stick to the script 😂
He'd be a good narrator for a kids show or book.
The Japanese version of that is also amazing.
1:25 timestamp for where it is
Love that they didn't think the noose needed to be removed, was genuinely a tiny bit worried they were gonna be like "uhhh kids can't know that people die, that might eviscerate their tiny little kid brains and our sharehol-err...their PARENTS sure wouldn't appreciate that
I think it's hilarious that after 20 years of trying so hard NOT to highlight these things, we see in big bold letters and loud ass narration, "PARTNERS! TURN BASED BATTLES! STAR POINTS!"
I find it extra funny that the very FIRST thing they decided to highlight even before the partners and turn-based battles was the paper aesthetic and related mechanics, like the folding and flying as a plane. As if those were the game's primary gameplay mechanics, when it's really just an exploration tool you use every once in a while. Old habits die hard when it comes to Nintendo advertising the 'Paper' in Paper Mario.
To be fair I’m pretty sure that was extremely prominent in the marketing for the game’s original release as well
@@gormottigrebel9978 It wasn't.
Mario's 'Paper' abilities aren't base features of the inhabitants of the world. The ability to do all these paper things is literally described as a curse by the story.
Sticker Star was the first time they started to put super heavy emphasis on the whole paper thing - to the detriment of the series.
@@VioletAeonSnowfield
Dude there’s a ttyd trailer where it’s just a paper airplane flying the whole time
@@gormottigrebel9978 Not sure about TTYD but I distinctly remember the one PM64 commercial where Mario is trying to save Peach from Bowser's paper shredder lol.

@@LARAUJO_0 OH YEAH MORE POWER!!!! RRRRRR!!!!!
8:33 There's a couple good reasons why the "pointing at the person you're choosing" system can be tricky to implement and make it feel good. The main issue in my mind is that you'd intuitively want to evenly space partners out around the wheel, which reduces input errors, but also means partners might shift around the wheel as others get added, which can mess with muscle memory. OR, you give them all static positions, but then it casually spoils how many partners there will be, and also requires placing them at odd angles (especially early on, where choosing between Goombella and Koops, for example, would probably mean choosing between up and up-right).
Having a system where you just cycle through is slightly less convenient, but cleaner from a UI/X perspective, since equally spacing out partners around the circle is less problematic as partners get added over time.
I don't see any issue with a wheel
@@chunkymonkey7983the guy literally spelled the issues out like what?
@@Boulder7685 But I disagree? I think it would work way better than just scrolling. I played Axiom Verge, and that game has a select wheel with like 20 weapons 😂
They spelled out the issues with implementing it, not really the wheel itself. @@Boulder7685

What was implemented here wasn’t the worst choice, any choice had its sets of drawbacks an benefits
I love how "technically" they did show all of the partners but it keeps things hidden and surprising. The cast of characters is overall incredible.
It's cool how despite the game being 20 years old, they still keep that one partner a surprise.
Only one of them hasn't been shown as a partner at all, first one to guess wins 1 (one) skittle.

All of the partners have been shown, with only TWO that haven't been shown as a partner. One being V..... And the other being Ms ....
@@Jack_TheSkyWriter Right, you get one skittle and an exact clone of itself. Still kind of surprising to me that Nintendo added Vi Bug Fables as a partner despite the game releasing ~15 years after PM:TTYD.
“So, let-a me get this straight. I’m somewhere that’s not what I-a would-a call the Mushroom Kingdom. I’m seeing freaking-a dragons and… oh yeah, I’m talking to a Goomba. Mamma mia, that is something I do now. I do battles in a theater, I help out the local mafia - I’ll-a probably fly next!”

Is his name important or something?
@@SuperMarioPlushMasters Yes. Nothing lore major or anything, but there is a specific gimmick that makes his name very important and not knowing it beforehand is crucial.
Actually even if you were spoiled and you actually do know his name, it ends up not mattering because of a particular spoilerific gimmick that prevents it from actually being a legitimate problem lol.
But it's definitely better if you don't know it beforehand.
That’s why I call that character“Freak-in-a-sheet”. 😂

@@PsychoDiesel48
Nope. Definitely still there.
The only thing that might have been changed due to some censorship is the slot machines. Some European countries are extremely notorious for slapping “18+” age ratings on any games that feature anything even vaguely resembling gambling, like Balatro recently got suddenly bumped to 18+ in parts of Europe which left the devs very annoyed. This is also why more recent Pokémon games removed Game Corners. Instead of slot machines it’s now a matching game just like the one out of SMB3.
@@BloodRedFox2008
Nope, also there as well.
@@BloodRedFox2008korea is most extreme about it
I like the lack of acknowledgement that it's a remake, they're treating it like it can stand on its own as a game.
Ikr? It's so good! Love how they did that with SMRPG Remake as well.
Them acknowledging it constantly would be like if Paper Mario acknowledged it was paper constantly. Obviously they'd never do that. Nuh-uh. No way. Nope.
That's what I love about it!
I can't believe Mario is Paper! :O
What are we, some kind of Paper Mario?
They should’ve taken that first bit farther. Like:
“Waitwaitwaitwaitwait… You’re telling me… that Mario… THE Mario… is PAPER?! *IN THIS PAPER MARIO GAME?!?!* (by Nintendo rated E for Everyone available on May 23, 2024)

Another new feature: In Rogueport there is now a singular dedicated pipe room that allows players to go to any area of the map after finishing different chapters. It helps with backtracking...
Which I am so happy about since it will make preparing for the final boss so much less of a pain! 😅
WAIT REALLY???
@concept8192 He's right. I saw some more footage of it. There's an room with 7 or 8 Pipes. You have to find some sort of stone to access it and there are also pipes in Rogueport that takes you to the rooms with warp pipes.
@@jaretco6423 Awesome
Yup yup yup.
Arlo mentions it at the very end (I mean the very VERY end 😂😂)
Was something similar not in the original game? I remember they had pipes that took you to different areas of the map in the original (I used it myself when I was doing the backtracking part of the game)
It's wild seeing Thousand Year Door shown in a modern Direct style presentation
I think the Goombella theme is new! Meaning that we will get new music for this game! I mean, we were hinted at it with a remake of the original theme in the reveal trailer! So, I wonder what new themes might show up and if there are other surprises they haven't revealed. I mean, that's what OG Paper Mario was so good at: surprises and secrets and world building!
Yeah it’s confirmed to be a new track and it seems every partner will get a new track.
@@whiteninji352 I love that attention to detail! I think only Ms. Mowz was the only one before with her own true theme. It just goes to show their respect for these characters and longtime fans will appreciate that effort! I also LOVED how they referenced PM64 in the intro sequence with all of the partners. It's like how Super Paper Mario had both games, this now has just the one because this is a prequel! Love it! I also remember how they foreshadowed Super Paper Mario in this game, and I wonder if they will add a little more to that. We'll see. It just makes the story feel like it's all connected.
There's also new battle themes for different areas!
yknow, sometimes I wonder how many things were added to games just cuz a developer was bored and made something just cuz they felt like it, and the rest of the team decided to put it in cuz why wouldn't they
@@nickk3077 They foreshadowed Super in TTYD? Where?
"Looks like he's making that paper...work." Gotta admit, that pun was almost enough to make me think about cancelling my preorder. 🤣

I am so unbelievably excited for collectable galleries of concept art. That's such a delightful addition for collecting star pieces. I am SO excited for this game.
i'm glad you pointed out the narrator's energy coz i really loved it haha
Nobody gonna talk about Goombella having a theme? Maybe all partner have a theme song when you first meet them!
There's that, plus the added remix of PM1 at the Mario house, plus one trailer had another wacky new theme like for chases or something.
They're so far adding a lot of extra music.
Forget a theme, goombella now has a VOICE
Honestly the narrator sounds like you - I mean this is the nicest way possible. Just glad we got the happy ending ❤
I said the same thing. He has a very similar rhythm
Lmao I literally thought the same thing when I watched the trailer earlier this morning!
I wish Arlo got to narrate the official Paper Mario Overview Trailer.
They need to get this narrator back for every new Nintendo overview trailer. He just sounds so enthusiastic and surprised about every little thing, it's hilarious!
"In this game you play as a guy named KirBy??!? who EAtS EnEmiEs?!?!!!😮🤣
This game is called Legend of ZeLdA?!?!? But wait, she's the PrInCesS?!?!?!?
"mAriO!!!! Not??? PaperrrR????"
This trailer was cringe
Something I spotted in the features trailer is a "Tattle Check" prompt in the bottom-right of the battle screens. Maybe that was in an earlier trailer as well, but this is my first time noticing it, and I'd assume it lets you bring up the new tattle cards that show not just HP but ATK and DEF of enemies that you've already tattled. Not something that needed to exist but an awesome little addition.
That is cool actually, and makes sense. Whenever you tattled enemas you permanently knew their HP forever after, so it makes sense that now you can just forever see their others stats and not have to remember.
And there’s also a view of tattles in the overworld menu. That also gives another incentive to tattle every enemy if you’re a completionist, since the tattles act like another collection
@@geschnitztekiste4111 Tattle log existed in the original game, so I wouldn't call it a new feature, but there's a chance some minor reward might be tied to completing % of it, like star pieces since those are now used for bonus content like the concept art and music unlocks.
@@mysteryninja354 whoops I forgot my bad. I was thinking of Paper Mario 64, where I couldn’t find something like this
The narrator to the Paper Mario video reminds me a lot of you, Arlo. The energy, the delivery, it's just... a little uncanny.
Its already confirmed they're changing up the fast travel warp pipes. 😊 I've heard its like origami king, where you open each up per-chapter. Also its accessible from Rogueport square
Nintendo life showed it off, it’s unlocked it looks like with Flurrie, it has an big block and stone block in there and has the 7 pipes when unlocked showing 1-7, and it’s now accessible via the square through an pipe in the bottom right (once you unlock it)
@@rontheauraknight9606Plus, the timing of the action commands has been streamlined apparently. And regardless of the frame rate, the frame PACING is a LOT better in this game, and the speed of the transitions are MUCH faster compared to the original. At this point, this is more than just a remake (which us astounding enough in it's own right), this is slowly morphing into a full on reimagining or rebirth. I feel like rebirth would be more accurate but, reimagining also seems to fit.
It's still fundamentally the same game so calling it a reimagining is really a stretch. It's a remake, that's what Nintendo calls it
I'm so excited. I have this game preordered, and I've never played a paper Mario before, but I loved Bug Fables, so I'm sure I'll love it.

ON A THEATRE?????
someone clearly hasn’t played Princess Peach Showtime
Or, ya know, Super Mario Bros. 3
That's peach on a theater but mario on a theater is inconceivable
and he's freaking paper
I cant believe Nintendo decided to release a game in 2024 where Mario is made of PAPER. That's a risky move in my opinion.
I saw one of the other early gameplay videos and they'd vastly improved the sewer fast travel:
1) It was all 1 room
2) The pipes were labeled
3) There was a direct pipe from rogueport square
4) You got access to each pipe as soon as you first visited the location, instead of needing to get the next hammer upgrade
i wonder what they are going to use the original warp pipe rooms for then, iirc one had a chest and the other a shine sprite but surely they'd add something else to those rooms if not change them outright.
@zombiegod34 the old pipe rooms are likely just gone, replaced entirely by the new one
As for the chest and Shine Sprite, the new pipe room has a big and stone block you need hammer upgrades to break, so chances are those two items got moved behind the blocks
@@OriginalGameteer interesting ty for the response
Can’t wait to battle. In a THEATER!?!?!?
Peach Showtime says hi.
"Can you PLEASE do a Paper Mario like The Thousand-Year Door again?!"
Nintendo: "We heard you."
Nintendo: "You're not going to believe this, but we had our ears plugged for TWENTY YEARS, how unfortunate."
Part of me thinks the reason they heavily leaned on the paper aspect in the overview has more to do with promoting the game to those whose only knowledge of paper mario comes from like, sticker star onwards. The average older paper mario fan is already sold on the game so it makes sense trying to market it this way to a newer audience
1:41 "Hmmmm... Looks like he's making that paper... wOrK!" That was so cringey and funny I couldn't help but laugh.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of boss gaunlet with harder versions of the bosses after the game. Like they did in the Mario rpg remake. That would be really cool.
3:25 The small glimpse of Twilight Town looks like the background is darker again and the trees sillouettes like in the original! I love going back to the original look but HD!
Can I just say, I absolutely LOVE the new sound design? Like, the original one was good too but this sounds so clean and snappy(?). I don't really know how to describe it but it's just really satisfying to listen too.
Man I can't wait for this.
I’m so excited for the concept art. Nintendo so rarely lets us peek at stuff like that and that fact that there letting us see it for this game specifically is so awesome.
No one:
This guy: PAPER?!!
I actually like how, like with Mario RPG, they are advertising it like its own stand-alone new game and not a remake. Idk why, but I feel like that will better help bring in those players that have never heard of/Haven't played the original.
Also, I always get so confused when people complain backtracking in TTYD, especially as a reason they like the newer games over it, cause, like... the only time I remember backtracking being a big thing was the Bomb-omb quest in order to get to the moon, and Sticker Star had way worse backtracking.
Chapters 2, 4, 5 and 6 also have their share of "Go from Point A to Point B, then back to A, now back to B..." through linear areas. It doesn't bother me too much, it certainly doesn't make the newer games any more appealing, but it is there.
1:30 “IT’S ME BRO, I’M TOTALLY DEAD BRO.”
God the Game Grumps TTYD playthrough is so goated.
“Are you nude?”
That narrator is giving it 200% and I'm absolutely here for it.
My friend growing up would let me watch him play this. ONLY watch !!!! I can’t wait to play this
Another thing, seeing the stuff about practicing timing is GREAT! I struggle with that so being able to work on it when not in actual danger of a gameover or something
Agree. I love the narrators enthusiasm but the script makes me fear the future of Paper Mario still becoming all about PAPER Mario...the clever way you get the paper abilities in TTYD to make it where Mario isn't actually paper is so much better than the entire game being about "Paper Shenanigans".
Doesn’t imply that at all.
@Novarcharesk I know it can just be harmless fun marketing...but I'm still concerned for the future of Paper Mario...even after we get this TTYD Remake.
I agree, that the winning factor of TTYD is that mario HAPPENS to be paper and folds himself in wierd ways to progress the story or get past obstacles and navigate the pop up book style world.
But the fact they have totally rebuilt this game and have gotten to build a world with these ideas at the forefront of its gameplay is exiting! It ABSOLUTLEY could influence future paper mario games the same way sticker star did with its paper aesthetic.
Imo the aesthetic in sticker star is its redeeming quality, and then the aesthetic growth in CS and OK were even better visual improvments.
Also I wanna note that the confetti mechanic in OK is a backwards version of the mob system in TTYD where when there are tons of enemies you have to hammer out of your way, in many different instances in that game.
They just made the confetti fill in spaces instead of hammering space to be able to move. Both even have explosive animations the confetti just fills things in to walk ontop of while the hammer makes room and moves npcs.
So many people never saw all the omage and similarities to the sticker star trilogy INCLUDING action commands still existing...
They just changed the battle system each game and put limitations in the themes and worldbuilding aspects.
Getting to make this game they got a real taste of what they have been kept from, and experience in rebuilding world/game like this for a modern day audience
This is as exiting as it gets, this is the best timline! 😊
@GamesareJoy not even that...mario doesn't happen to be paper...mario only becomes paper when he's cursed by evil chest ghosts lol. So it's not a normal thing.
Another change from the original: The casino slot machine is different! It used to be the generic match-three pictures like in generic casinos but here it's the spinning pictures minigame from Mario 3!
I love how the menu looks like it unfolds from some kind of notebook or something, I like that they hit a balance where everything looks like paper but it's not obsessive and in your face about it. I really do hope that they add just a little extra content though, a bonus dungeon or something just to give old fans something new.
I really hope they don't overcorrect with the fast travel. For example, a ton of people complain about the backtracking in Chapter 4, but most of the trips between the town and steeple have a narrative purpose. You're meant to feel what Mario is going through by actually playing it. So cutting those trips out by letting you warp around too much would do the game a disservice.
1. If you're talking about the fast travel pipes room, it was confirmed taht the pipes open based on your magical map, meaning that it opens up as you complete chapters. So in that case I don't see that feature affecting things like Twilight Town or Keelhaul.
2. I disagree with the mindset of "You're meant to feel what Mario is going through." I've always kinda disagreed with the whole "bad gameplay because narrative" but I agree it can be okay sometimes. In this case though I think that's kind of a stretch. Mario doesn't feel anything due to repetitive trips he never shows any emotion during the explorations. There's not even any dialogue from, like, Vivian saying "Oh man I can't believe we're going back there again."
@@ShyRanger What I mean regarding what Mario feels is that after his identity is stolen, he's all alone. But it's not just HE who is alone but it's YOU, the player, because now you have to fight those enemies from earlier without a partner at your side.
That's something no amount of dialog or animations of Mario looking sad can portray in the same way.
That's something you can only do in the medium of videogames.
When you pair up with Vivian, it's such a relief to have a friend again, since not only do you have another damage dealer, but you can also dodge the charged attacks of the enemies.
If Mario had lost his friends and identity... but then IMMEDIATELY befriended Vivian, it wouldn't have nearly the same impact. In fact, what would even be the point?
If you could just jump into a pipe and get another partner, you'd just take them for granted again, like you were before.
Instead, you are left there to experience the consequences on your own.
What happens in these story beats is not just that you watch another cutscene that justifies playing more of the game. Like in Keelhaul Key, where there's no real reason for why entering the cave requires another trip to the camp, other than Flavio just happens to still have the key. Instead, each story beat recontextualizes not just the plot, but your gameplay situation.
Thing is, once you find out the identity of the doppelganger, that's when I think they can unlock a shortcut pipe back to town. That would be fine.
So yeah, I don't see how this is bad game design. It's just a small difficulty spike.
Unless you insist on looking at it through a lense where gameplay and plot are completely disconnected from each other. If that's what you want, play New Super Mario Bros.
There's no story getting in the way of the gameplay there.
Personally I love the story of chapter 4. If the backtracking was all just replaced with more dungeon crawling, I don't think I'd like the chapter more.
This way it actually leaves an impact.
Inconveniencing the player isn't always bad. I don't mind a game messing with me if it's for a good reason.
@@ShyGuyXXLI totally agree
@@ShyGuyXXL i agree with basically everything you said. i think a good compromise would be to have the parts where mario is alone take place in a new part of the forest, at the very least. i think it's less the traveling people dislike and more the fact that you're once again going through something you already did, and so i believe that way people wouldn't really have much of a problem. in fact, that might serve to amplify the isolation of having no partners: you're in a new, unfamiliar location, and you don't even have your friends by your side.
I'm glad they kept Charles Martinet's voice lines for Mario. That's great.
And they kept Mario's facial expressions on point as well. I've been hating how stiff he's been since Super Paper Mario. He actually looks like and sounds like Mario again!
Does that narrator kind of sound like Arlo in a way? Like not the exact same voice but the... inflections.
Seeing the trailer, I just thought that the narrator himself was Arlo, but doing another tone on his voice. But maybe it was just another guy trying to imitate Arlo n.n''
Nostalgic Tunes being in every single remaster and remake moving forward would become a widely underrated standard that would never stop being appreciated.
I still can't believe they kept the gallows
The ability to change the music!!! I have been the most nervous about not liking the redone music as much, as music is the main reason I connect to games. I remember Windwaker HD’s music feeling just a little off to me and from what I’ve heard felt like TTYD might be the same, so I’m so glad we get the option to choose! Also props to Nintendo for humbling themselves enough to realize that sometimes the nostalgia drives our enjoyment of their work. Love that!
Even if we end up not getting much in the way of new content, everything we've seen so far about this new TTYD has me impressed and excited! The QOL additions (like what seems like fast travel), remastered soundtrack and spruced up graphics will make this a treat to replay :)
I think I get what Nintendo is trying to do here. They already know that PM veterans are going to buy this instantly, so they're deliberately targeting the new PAPER-obsessed side of the PM audience, showing off all the funny little paper stuff in tge game.
Assuming they won't boycott the game for being 30 fps and different, "woke" dialog.
I read that there is apparently one scene that has been changed/censored. In the original game there's a scene where Mario and Goombella encounter an enemy Goomba, a Spiked Goomba, and a Paragoomba who catcall Goombella. Apparently this has been removed.
I hope not, but Nintendo of America are the kind of losers to do that.

I'm willing to bet that voice crack was accidental, but the director was like, "No, keep that take; it's perfect!" 🤣
A few new things have been spotted unofficially as well. Spoilers ahead.
1. Some localized things have been reverted to the Japanese versions, including boss weaknesses
2. Attack timings MIGHT be slightly more forgiving, hard to tell for certain
3. There are more than 1 battle theme. People speculate it changes based on chapter
For the 3rd thing, I think it's location personally based on what we've seen and heard
On Point #2: The Action Command timings have to be more forgiving if they’re sacrificing fps for visual fidelity especially with Superguards. Superguards were hard enough to execute at 60 fps never mind 30 fps.
Personally, I don’t mind 30 fps so long as it’s a consistent frame rate. An unstable 30 fps with frame stutters and frequent drops into the low-mid 20 range is not a good feeling no matter what type of game is being played.
There are literally no spoilers in this comment
@@zgoaty9235this is one of the few games I am ok with not being 60 fps since its not a action plat-former or shooter or action rpg. Difficult timing actions and platforming are in this game, but this games focus on strategy and resource management in its battles reduces the sour taste. Hopefully perfect blocks are 1/30th of a second and blocks are 1/10th of a second
Pennys big breakaway recently getting its 60fps patch for the switch was a god send, and Kirby forgotten land being 30fps was sad to me since apparently it was able to run 60 on switch without that much struggle according to people with modable switches changing a single variable for it to occur.

Something to wet the appetite while we wait for Bug Fables 2
Lol
I'm just gonna assume we're never getting it, unfortunately.
It's good that they have an option to listen to the gamecube music. I'm a bit baffled by them making it a badge though. If it was just a menu option you could turn it on right away and just have it on. As a badge you have to go through the opening cutscenes and actually get to the point you can control Mario to do it, and we don't even know if you start with it or have to obtain it from a shop or something. It just feels like making it a badge is Nintendo being Nintendo rather than just making it practical and straightforward to me.
Pretty sure we do see it being sold for 1 coin.
@@CrashCubeZeroOne Yeah one of the trailers showed that they also showed having the badge along with just Unsimplifier and Power Smash suggesting it'll be one of the very first badges you can buy.
When I pointed out this issue in a different comments section (I didn't even say the Nintendo being Nintendo part) and how I thought it was weird but whatever I was told to relax and stop nitpicking so the game could sell well.
Thanks Paper Mario fans :(
@@ShyRanger honestly I don't see how this would ever be considered an issue. They made a cute interesting way of doing it instead of just having it a boring menu option. i'm all for accessibility! don't get me wrong! but FORCING Every Single Player to play in Baby Mode while having no options for even a "Normal" difficulty... that kinda sucks? it should go both ways, i think. more options is almost always a good thing.
it's a good thing it doesn't personally bother ME that much, but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't a little annoyed. i hope you find a mod that suits you.
I wonder what the Strange Sack does now? Just bumps it to the old 20? Or now to 25, to keep it as a +10?
@@VonFirflirch looking at more common design choices by nintendo, i bet it will be 30. By looking at Sweet Treat again, the starpieces you are shooting and the symbols got bigger, to make it even easier to hit something, combine this with one poison mushroom less and you have a subtle gamechanger no one talks about.... its unbelievable, the game was already easy, why cant they at least implement an "original difficulty" mode or something...
"and he's PAPER?"
Us: you're on thin fucking ice Ryan🥰
I hope they aren't cowards let Vivian be trans this time. Like theres a 20% chance at best but I play gacha games so those odds look pretty good to me
@@zacki102 By all reports so far, they've gone with the Japanese version as the base, and Vivian is indeed trans.
I am LOVING getting content from Arlo so often thanks to this new channel.
Really sounds like the trailer's narrator was doing an Arlo impression!
Arlo I need to know what you think about the new battle themes and how they have variations for each area now, like origami king!
It's fantastic, the normal battle theme against overworld enemies in the original game got old fast.
@@Teal-Menace🧢
I personally love the Paper thing in Paper Mario games. I personally liked how they leaned into the paper universe I didn't like how they just got rid of the RPG elements to the game though. Paper Mario: TTYD (Switch) looks amazing. I've been saving up for this game.
Good battle systems, oh, how I've missed you!
Please kingly ignore that I was playing Bug Fables an hour ago.
7:12 I disagree that his name should not be said. It would be even funnier for people to know what it is going in, thinking they're going to outsmart the game, only to find what's missing when they triumphantly attempt to utter it.
Wanted to say you are doing really well Arlo, I am really glad you have this channel as that you have been promoting it and it’s getting a good audience, you are wonderful Arlo and I do really love this channel! Also, lovely to see more and more promotion for this game, the narration was silly in the best way for the trailer!
I actually think the wheel for the partners is good because you will have more than 4 partners. The stick will only be able to select between 4 partners, while the select wheel can allow you to select any partner.
PAPER? I HARDLY KNOW HER!
think i prefer the toggle wheel over directional quick swaps. Keep in mind the logistics and room for error, combined with a brief swapping animation. Take the already known hardware issues with stick drift, combine that with an updating wheel that would otherwise spoil the number of party members, then add in "stun frames" that prevent the wheel from being opened while a partner is actively being swapped and it is likely to cause more frustration than it is worth. A toggle wheel is also more faithful to the original menu, so it has that going for it.
Now, to break down that stick direction idea for a wheel, you start with 1 party member, it becomes 2, then 3, and so on. UI cleanness would space the party members around the wheel equidistant relative to the number of party members currently unlocked. Now, take all of that and consider the fat that sometimes goombella will be at the top position, sometimes the 3 o'clock position, sometimes the 7 o'clock position, and it becomes more hassle than it's worth. If put in a fixed location on the wheel, it then has to deal with accuracy issues as the wheel gets more full. 4 o'clock is closer to 12 than 6 when there is only 2 party members, but closer to 3 than 12 with 4 or more. If a noob assumes the number gets as high as 12, then 4 is quite exact on the member the game will give and creates error if the goal was specifically 3 or 5. Stick drift only makes matters worse as the required accuracy would make the process even longer than accurately changing party members in the original, despite having to enter a menu for it.
0:33 Your laugh always makes me smile, man! Your energy is just so contagious.
I waited to watch this because I knew you'd cover it here!!
There’s a video or two out there now of 15 minutes of gameplay from this, and y’all… it is *so good* 😭
This is an overlooked change but the Attack FX badge in Hooktail Castle is 💚 Green instead of ❤ Red.
It also changed from 🦗 cricket to 🐸 froggy.
Apparently it being referred to as cricket noises was strictly and English thing. Not sure why it was changed, but it seems like the remake is being re-translated to be more faithful to the original JP text. Hopefully it comes with an explanation for why frogs are Hooktail's weakness!
@@randomnpc445
In French, the reason behind the weakness was just a quick line about Hooktail basically suffering from PTSD, recalling crazy stomach aches after stuffing herself full of frogs, something like that.
I'm surprised the original english version removed even that.
@@VonFirflirch In the GCN English version that's what she says too, but with crickets. I've seen a clip of the fight in the remake and she just says she got a stomach ache from eating a frog now, like all the other versions.
Maybe the localizers just thought the badge sounded more like a cricket than a frog so they changed it? I agree, personally it doesn't really sound like a frog imo.
@randomnpc445 the frog noise is that of a Japanese species, so they changed the noise to be that of a "cricket" since Americans wouldn't be familiar with that frong noise.
I love love love how this looks. My only pet peeve is I don’t love how the crystal stars look. They look off to me. Anyone else feel this way? In the original they looked more 3d like they were other worldly in this paper based world but they look much flatter and less crystaly here.
“It’s Mario, AND HE’S PAPER!?” And this is the second Paper Mario game on the switch 😂
And seventh in a 24-year-old series.
its so BEAUTIFUL!!! there has been 1 concern from a section of the game review/news sites about how much backtracking there was in the original, since Paper Mario 64 had a way to circumvent that with the warp pipes in the Toad Town Tunnels going to the other towns/villages so you wouldnt have to travel the long way.
I gotta say, THIS is what i would have loved to see in a new paper mario game! The art style that really sells you that its a world of paper, but the gameplay is also engaging and enticing with the options you have with both world exploration and with battles! Especially the battle system! Badges were integral and nicely balanced when it came to expanding what moves Mario could do while you explored the world and found more badges, giving you a valid reason to get into fights while exploring? THIS BOSSNESS IS SYMBIOTIC! the more stuff you found, the more moves you could do, the more you wanted to fight, the more power you gained which helped find more stuff and cycle that process!
(notices Arlo freaking out at the end of the video)
HOLD UP THERE IS FAST TRAVEL?!?!?!?!
its perfect! lets fucking GO! TAKE MY MONEY DAMN YOU!!!!!
This game is an absolute graphic design spectacle. It's cool to see it in HD because my whole life I've only ever seen shitty compressed images of this game, or at least not on a CRT like it was designed for. So HD is really the best way to spread this game to people
I noticed at 3:43, AKA the bit where they're talking about the theater filling up with people, pressing the + button apparently enables "Tattle Check." I guess it will tell you which of the enemies have been tattled and which haven't?
You can tell which were tattled because they get an HP bar under them.
Most likely it just lets you see their info mid-battle without needing to re-tattle them.
I also saw a video called _First Fifteen_ that showed off bits of the first chapter, and one of the things I noticed was Hooktail is no longer afraid of crickets, she's afraid of frogs, and I gather that this is more true to the original Japanese, which means other parts of the translation could have been changed too.
Weird thought I had.
This is the first game I really genuinely remember playing, owning, and finishing.
At first I was trying not to watch the trailers, but then, I realized, maybe I can look at it differently.
I can take in the information slow, I don't have to rush through the experience when I get it and treat like people used to treat plays so many centuries ago
Everyone knew the story, the read it beforehand, the knew what was going to happen, but they went to the performance of the play anyway.
So maybe this can be similar. I know what happens in the game, there may be some new additions, but what I care about is experiencing it all again step by step. I don't know, some shower thoughts after losing excitement from seeing more of the trailers then exciting me again with a rejuvenated hope
8:55 YES, this is so true, Nintendo thinks that they need the go all in on the “paper” aspect of Paper Mario, but that was never really the important part. It’s not that we live this paper concept so much, it’s that they made a fantastic game that used a pop up book setting. I’ve never cared for the paper craft stuff in later Paper Mario games. This is really the #1 thing holding Nintendo back from making new, excellent Paper Mario games.
I remember, even as a kid, I didn't care much about the paper thing x)
Honestly, they could just make a standard-looking 3D Mario with PM mechanics and I'd love it all the same.
Maaan some people are dogging on the narrator. Personally i love it and he sounds like he is having a blast. Let him have fun!
Man, I couldn't have asked for a better bday present. I can't wait for next month!
Come on Arlo, we all know his name.
It's Freaksheet, right?
I love this channel. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted ❤
Why did the guy sound so surprised that Mario was paper as if the series hasn't been a thing for well over 20 years
Why would you assume everyone watching that trailer is 30 years old and have played all paper mario entries?
The narrator sounded like he was being held at staple gunpoint.
I see the Lego City guy got a new job!
It's disappointing that they haven't shown us any new gameplay content. SMRPG got boss rematches, and BIS got Bowser Jrs bonus story, but the game people have actually been asking for may not get anything :/
