In this video we explain the do's and don'ts of using body filler, why we don't use filler over metal, the importance of weighing filler, uniform substrates and more.
I have been putting body filler over epoxy primer for 30 years with never a problem. Some of the newer guys coiming into the hobby-restoration field have shunned the idea...just put body filler on ground steel. They complain that the epoxy primer gums up the paper causiing problems. I agree...it does but I feel the trade off is worth it. I have used ppg's dp (which has been changed) to dplf. I was told at a ppg training ctr that they purposely put a vynal product in their epoxy so that it will not get airborn. Iam on the hunt for a epoxy that will not cause the loading problem...looking at Tamco"s epoxy...they say it will not do that.
If you haven't already found a good replacement, try PPG's F4921 epoxy. Does not gum up the paper. You will never use DPLF again once you try it. From PPG's chemist "F4921 is our best epoxy!"
VP2050 as he said is a good high build epoxy. It has some sack. You can really level some work out. It gets pretty hard when cured but doesn't load up the paper like the DP90 LV.
Maestro big boss! I cannot thank you enough for sharing your expertise, with us rookies! Thank you very much, and keep on trucking! 👍👍👍
thanks for taking the time to do these videos, keep them coming!
Weighing the filler seems like a good idea. Thanks for opening my eyes to that.
Makes perfect sense, Thanks. Glad I found your channel.

OR? Check out the "Montana" auto body Epoxy line. IT DOES sand and it's a fraction of the price of PPG so...Good luck

I agree with you, great job!
Can you provide make and model of digital scale
What do you do to nutralize rust like what you found under previous body work?
ppg metal prep system. dx579 and dx520
Why epoxy as opposed to etching primer an poly primer?
Epoxy has superior corosion resistance. It's the best over bare metal.
Mixing body filler is like baking...Not Cooking....
