A super quick fix to importing videos with a transparent background, such as QuickTime MOV with PNG codec. Unfortunately, VEGAS Pro doesn't automatically enable the alpha channel when you import a video, you have to do it manually for each clip

Dude you are a freaking lifesaver!! Been through a nightmare of trying to get this .mov animation to be transparent. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Glad I could help!
You're the best man, been searching for an hour on how to do this. Appreciate it!
dude you are a live saver ive been looking for this for so long you earned a sub
Thank you!!! Your video helped me to export a composition I made on After Effects to Vegas Pro (I didn't tried to use Premiere Pro yet).
For me the "Premultiplied" option make the background transparent but also much brighter. Both "Straight (unmatted)" and "Premultiplied (dirty)" worked just fine!
Nice work, glad to hear!
This was a huge save! Thank you for making this video!
Thank you for this tutorial. Quick and simple. You sir are a cultured Gentleman.
YOU FINALLY SAVED ME AFTER SO MANY HOURS OF STRUGGLE! 👍👍👍
Yea, it's frustrating, isn't it? Happy it helped!
great example of a short, sweet, and excellent tutorial.
Thank you, it has taken me many days of searching how to get After Effects transparency to work.
*THANK YOU SO MUCH* 👏👏👏

Happy to help! ♥️
Thank you! this was really helpful I had a white alpha background (a small note too if anyone is experienceing the same problem with the white background) just follow the same thing in the video but change the color in the alpha channel to white.
Glad you got it to work eventually!

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!!! I followed every step with a video with transparency but I can't enable it :( can someone please help me? Is it the format? My video is in MOV format.
awesome video. very helpful
Awesome, glad it helped!
the 2K community learning from this vid!!! What's good Giuseppe!
At the time of rendering what present do we have to choose...? Works with whichever you want to?
thanks a lot
Welcome!
Thanks from Brazil
De nada! I guess that's Spanish but oh well haha!
I used to put a chroma key fx, but if the objects in the animations are semi transparent, it's visible that something is fishy
Thanks a lot!
thnx man
You're welcome dude!
Thanks bro thanku
You're welcome bro!
I figured it out a while ago, I had to export my animations from Clip studio paint as (AVI) file rather than MP4. AVI files work like PNG's but for animations I guess.
Can you explain more, cause im struggling to do the same as well
merci beaucoup !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love you
Thank you for your tutorial, however don't I need to download QuickTime to get all this to work?
I believe VEGAS should be able to handle MOV files natively without QuickTime, but if it doesn't, then that's the solution you have to go with
@@VideoPlastyOfficial Hey it didnt work for me?
Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve dont recognize the video file, if i want editing the in other editors.
Whatever codec I use, always if I render it in Blender as transperent animation. This trouble have animations with transperency, only. Know anybody maybe what I make wrong ?
Is that an actual video or u just animate it? Because what i want to try is an actual video
Mine is not working. Ive done with quicktime and this and still not working in video. But in photo unless i chroma keyer. Help
This process did not work for me using vegas pro 16 but it did work in vegas pro 13. This leads me to suspect that there may be some sort of preference setting that allows for transparent backgrounds that I am not aware of. Again, using the same clip with an alpha channel, I can remove the background in vegas pro 13 but not in vegas pro 16. Any advice?
I can't help I'm afraid. I don't even have a Windows machine to run Vegas to play around with it. It was just an interesting problem I encountered while doing a quick Vegas tutorial and thought I'd make a tutorial about this as well, as indeed, using an alpha channel in Vegas wasn't so user friendly for whatever reason.
How to remove alpha layer from vegas movie (format MOV) ?
I'm trying to make an image video gif but every time I render the video and even make test renders the background is still black. All the images are transparent and I even did the media generator like in the video to test if the images were truly transparent and they were but it won't stick when I try to render them as a video gif. Any suggestions?
I actually haven't used VEGAS in years now, but there might be a setting on the render tab that says something "RGB + Alpha", in order to render with a transparent background.
As for exporting directly as a transparent GIF, that's a whole different ball game, no idea if VEGAS can do that, but it's a fairly complicated process because it's a weird and ancient format. GIF might be possible, but transparent GIF is next level of complexity.
I know this doesn't help much but oh well
@@VideoPlastyOfficial I can try that. Ah no worries about the whole Gif thing, I can know the steps to handle that. It was just the issues with removing that black background during the rendering process since I don't have the Quicktime option. (Probably due to not being needed with the newer Sony Vegas versions or something.) So I was trying to find another alternative.
Oh, you don't have the QuickTime option. Well in that case, you'll have to find another codec that support alpha channel (transparency). Do a quick Google search for Vegas to see what options it has for alpha channel.
QuickTime was one of them, with PNG or Prores 4444 compression, but they only support that on Macs nowadays for some reason.
how I can get app vegas pro? cause I can't find on my MacBook. please
You purchase it here:
www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-pro/
It doesn't come with your MacBook for free. It's a 3rd party software. Your MacBook has iMovie installed for free as a good video editing option. It's basic, but it does the job most of the time.
I do that but the image has faded edges and when I import to Vegas the edges aren't feathered, they are hard. What is the problem? Thanks!
No idea, sorry
it doesnt work for me. how do i know if the video has alpha channel? the background I got is black.
Hello Eduard, So I have vegas 16 and I have this clip with a black background that I want to make transparent. Does the Alpha channel method work on the Mov. File? Because I tried it and it didn't work, is there anything I can do?
Well is that clip already transparent or it simply has a black background? The "alpha channel method" on the MOV only works if the video has a transparent background (also called alpha channel). If it doesn't and the background is actually black, you'll have to remove it somehow. I haven't done that in VEGAS before as I haven't used it for ages, but might be something similar to chroma keying (the same way you remove green backgrounds for VFX).
it still didnt work for me , pls helppp
I used Vegas pro 18, and I did the exact same thing, turns out its not working eventho I tried all options in the alpha channel, i also have quicktime 7, so i dont know whats wrong, help please.
Maybe the video is not actually transparent? Check with some free stock animation videos from us to confirm (they are 100% transparent), it should work fairly straight forward: videoplasty.com/stock-animation/search?price=0-0
So I did this, and it does somewhat have transparency, but the colors turn absolutely insane, looks like rainbow vomit and all warped. any solutions for that?
You probably selected the wrong blending mode
didnt work ... i am trying to make a png transparent
No clue, sorry.
you figured it out?
The png must be created with an alpha channel on an image editing software like Gimp, or Corel Draw. When you use the png (that contains the transparency) in Vegas, no extra action must be done.
I have a video with black in the background, im not sure how to make that go away. This didn't work for me.
Maybe the video didn't have a transparent background
Can I not do this with .gifs?
And Vegas Pro 16?
No idea, sorry. I'm not even on Windows myself anymore for many years now.
premultiplied doesn't work...
I have a .mov video, but it doesn't remove the background (I'm 100 % sure it is saved as rgb + alpha in after effects) and it deosn't work even with the other alpha modes in vegas
If you're 100% sure and it imports with a transparent background in Premiere Pro or After Effects, then I'm afraid I don't know how to help you, might be something with your Vegas installation.
Just a thought, might help - please check if you have QuickTime installed if you're on a Windows machine, I imagine there might be a small chance that this could be the reason, so it's worth trying:

@@VideoPlastyOfficial Okay, thanks anyway
Did it work?
@@VideoPlastyOfficial didn't try yet, going to try tomorrow
@@VideoPlastyOfficial did not work for me either D: i tried quick time
I export footage from Resolve into Vegas Pro 16 and get a blank image, only audio. Wat
Maybe you got some export settings wrong in DaVinci Resolve
@@VideoPlastyOfficial I've tried them all. I think it's a bug to do with Vegas Pro 16 not supporting Alpha channels. My old install of 14 used to.
Does the video play with an actual image when opened directly (VLC Player for example) or when imported back in DaVinci Resolve?
doesnt work for me +(
W
How about for PNG?
Isn't it the same? Otherwise, I have no clue, sorry
@@VideoPlastyOfficial it is indeed. thank you
It didn't work on my MP4 file.
MP4 files do not have transparent background. Never. They cannot have it from a technical point of view
This isn't working and I haven't found a single solution in hours. I'm trying to use lower thirds in my videos, and rendering in .mov animation and even a PNG video format for the video isn't working. Neither is the unmatted or premultiplied setting on the actual video properties itself once I export
TheRealSid can you check to make sure the video you exported (lower thirds) are actually transparent?
Of course, this could happen for a multitude of reasons - but please be sure to select RGB + Alpha when you export the video, but export in MOV format with PNG codec, not directly as PNG files (although that can work too, but it's too complicated).
If the file is not too big, feel free to message me on videoplasty.com and I will take a look at it for you :)
@@VideoPlastyOfficial Yes I had checked, and after even more looking around not a single thing could fix the issue I have. It's weird though because a year ago I did the alpha channel setting switch and it worked fine. In order to get all of my lower thirds working I had to go to my base vegas file template that I use in all my videos that I made, copy and paste the entire animation from the other vegas files and then it would work. But if I exported them, not a single setting would work, it was a weird.
That's odd, but happy to hear you made it work in the end!
Again, if you'd like, you can send me the file and I'll that a look at it!
no funciona bro
how can i uninstall it?
VEGAS Pro? From Add/Remove program in your Control Panel
What do you do if that doesn’t work
