When you can generalize your personal problems as being the problems of a ‘type’ level rather than problems of an ‘individual’ level you can surreptitiously abscond your responsibilities of improvement and project them as a relatively insurmountable objective quality of a collective ‘type.’ In this way you maintain your victimhood while retaining your collective credit future-paid when the ‘type’ realizes its buried potential.
The problem is that type development is purely individual. 'Types,’ as such, are simply normative means, or as Jung so described them in PT, characteristic extremes. No one is a type, or by god why would you want to be! It’s a declamation of your sincerest fallibilities, your self-aggrandizement, your ego-inflation, your repressed sufferings. A type is a commitment to accepting a biased duality of opposites: I am this, not that. Or more congenially: I am mostly this, and mostly not that. Why this exclusion? This exclusion is the very root of the problem.
The only path to growth is the reconciliation of opposites, the integration of the ‘countertype,’ the acceptance that the 'self' is both that which is recognized in the conscious sphere of ego-identity and all that which is suppressed into the unconscious. This all notwithstanding the collective unconscious, those tectonic forces that drive the movement of humanity on such large scales that it is rare for an individual to perceive them unless they manifest as a patently revelational and perhaps disturbing vision. And who want’s a disturbing vision to reveal that their type isn’t all that it’s made out to be? That their type is a collection of imbalances waiting to be reconciled by painstaking inner work? A transcendent type would be unbound by these polarities. Through reconciliation of opposites, they would arrive at a state where thinking and feeling, sensing and intuition, are coextensive across the same domain. Our intrinsic biases propel us to propound a particular manifestation of these inclinations, but ultimately they are aiming at the end of integrating their very opposite, the most difficult path any individual could set themselves upon, but the only path that is worthwhile for the benefit of humankind.

@@ArmChairTypology Ha! Love it. I've become Platonic form for others to rally or rail against. I wouldn't have it any other way. The dynamism in the comments is amusing, especially the psychoanalytical attempts based on a truncated comment from a truncated draft produced from a progressively truncated, often inebriated brain attempting to partition a truncation of emergent archetypical contents. Can you comprehend an entire jewel from the ray of a single facet? If so, I want to know how!

What mostly bothers me is that people are kinda limiting themselves to their assigned type in order to fit the description they were given when they had finished the test. People literally limit their capabilities and are acting on the type MBTI gave them, they think if they do something that type won't do, they'll be acting "out of their character and comfort zone".
I'm classified as INTJ 8w7, but I don't run away from social interactions, or try to become introverted because I'm not as introverted as other INTJs, in fact I'm an ambivert, so I'm quite social and outgoing when I need to be.
Does that make me less like an INTJ? Yes.
Does it bother me? No, because it means, I have overcome the weakness of an INTJ
There's also a common misconception that some types are simply smarter than other types, and that being an NT type, makes you smarter. Which of course is not true. Any type can be smart in its own way, only because I'm INTJ doesn't mean I automatically have an IQ of Albert Einstein. I've also seen people saying how they're a certain personality type like ENTJ or ESTJ, and have convinced themselves they're that type because they think if you're ENTJ = successful. Which I have come to realize is of course not true, your personality type is not what determines how smart you are, or how successful you'll be in life. There are simply so many factors which affect how smart or successful you'll be, and it has nothing to do with your personality.
All in all, is MBTI accurate? Of course not, because people can change over time, and you can easily step out of your comfort zone if you have the determination and willpower to do so. I think people should stop worshipping MBTI like it's the ultimate reality of who they are and there's nothing they can do.

u took the words out of my mouth 👍 I think it's because people love to be validated.. and maybe their environment doesn't give them that much recognition and validation, so when there's a group of people who basically share the same thoughts, like the MBTI community, of course people would love it. Even though, sometimes it could be harmful like u said, limiting ones beliefs and behaviour.
I also think that too much self consciousness is what MBTI basically gave me. Yes it also tells me my strength as well, but it makes me feel kinda depressed knowing that I'm "weaker and lazier" rather than other people. It makes me feel like I couldn't improve myself and I always be a failure.
I love to be validated too, which is why I love the community but sometimes I miss the old days where I could stop obsessing over MBTI.. the days when I could stop labelling people behaviour according to the cognitive functions, makes me lowkey depressed fr

As an ENTP 3w4, I must agree here
As for me, I am viewed by others as a hard worker, knowledgable, successful person (altho I don't personally feel like that), and I do my work regularly and on time, which isn't typical for an ENTP.
Also, according to Jordan Peterson, Big 5 is more accurate

I'm so unimaginably happy not to be alone to notice how light-minded this community has become in the last 1-2 years. But i guess everything that gets even a little popular loses the original thing it had in that we loved about it. Yeah i've seriously been like "man am i the only one who feels like it's not going the right way anymore??" I'm happy to find people who agree with me like you and your comment section somewhat, but at the same time it's incredibly fucking sad that when i joined the cult it was like kinda more real and not just "INFP = sensitive and unique" 10 times a day on instagram memes. It's like everything once had something """magical""" in it just turns into shit when it gets popular. Yeah i just had to share my toughts cuz it makes me feel better and this comment section is the perfect place to put it i guess.
Ah also i saw a comment under hitler's profile from an infj: "we don't claim him"... like .... ???

Unrelated topic. I know you not into celebrity typings at this time but bare with me:
I’m been looking at your celebrity typings on Instagram and I found something rather curious.
the cognitive function breakdown you provide under each clip caught my attention for one reason:
You often start with the inferior function (very occasionally you start with the child function) but mostly you start with the inferior function instead of the dom function. If it’s an Si dom you will start with “draws upon alternative perceptives/potentials (Ne)”
If it’s an Se dom you will start with “draws from their own insight (Ni)”
Obviously Jung said the dominant function suppresses the inferior. For example if you are dom thinking then said differentiated thinking will suppress feeling as both are rationality but different kinds so It’s like water and oil pushing each other away.
But of course it doesn’t end there because Jung also said “the inferior has you”. It owns you in a sense I suppose.
It’s like we often hear the phrase “what goes up must come down” but in psychology, especially Jung, It seems to me more like “what goes down must come up again” (and come back up in a rather bold way) the dom may suppress the inferior but of course the inferior has its eruptions. like a mountain dom function suppressing the hot magma inferior beneath. Think Walter whites Se Inferior erupting.
I think it’s interesting you start with the inferior. Since it’s on an axis with the dominant I get why it can make sense to start from that angle since it always can be brought back to the dominant since there is an axis relationship there.
More importantly though, I know you have a fascination with the anima concept so it makes sense you start with the inferior as your can figure a person out by what they idealize ect. Perhaps friedrich nietzsche’s “ubermensch” is one of the best examples of an anima figure for an Ni dom/Se inferior.
Do you find in practice/application of typing celebrities and People that the inferior is bold and obvious? I guess it must be. If we look at Ni doms like hitchens or Peterson we can’t not run into Se around every corner. It might not be sophisticated Se but it is clearly valued and worked into their philosophies.
Now clearly the dominant runs the show especially in terms of what you see an individual provide to society and the world on a day to day basis in terms of competence and confidence in said area. Their “hero” as it were.
Lastly, There is a good chance I’m overthinking it and you simply start with the inferior on Your instagram breakdowns rather than the dom since most cognitive function breakdowns start with the dom function. Starting with the inferior separates you from the crowd.

This is a long comment. It is also unrelated to the video. The part of the descriptions in question come from a book called Lectures on Jung's Typology by Marie von Franz. In the first chapter of the book she plainly summarizes the point that in Jung's psychology conscious orientations are complimented by an unconscious opposite orientation that is secretly seeking energy from either the object or the subject.
Again ye bud this is pretty unrelated if you'd like to talk about things that aren't in the video shoot me a message over on instagram.

I mean i did warn you in the first sentence that it was “unrelated”. So you can’t say I didn’t warn you ;)
Also since your said at the beginning of your video that not many people pay close attention to your Instagram typings, I wanted to show you that there are some people who do look at them closely and appreciate them. I’m just one example to be fair.
Despite our previous disagreements we do actually type a lot of people similarly. So in practice there is some common ground.

It seems to me that the MBTI system is being used as a marketing system at this point and so many people are using it much like they would their horoscopes. It’s sad that this theory seems to be exploited by so many for their own personal gain and the validity of the theory becomes less credible through these means. I actually enjoy learning about the cognitive functions and how this theory works in actual psychology rather than a generalized method based off of characteristics which most all human beings can relate to. In order for this theory to ever be accepted and accredited, the definitions of the functions will have to be clearly defined and the structure of the overall system will have to be agreed upon by the community. I very much believe in and support cognitive type theory (as I refer to it) and I want to learn more so that I might be able to contribute in some way, however that may be.

Your rant is justified, but in context of the world of social media it’s to be expected. For all the glory of connection through internet and the vast amounts of information at our fingertips, it is mostly bubbling sludge. When you present actual ideas with depth and/or insight, it is quickly shot down with the realization that most prefer to muddle in the said bubbling sludge.
There are those that can grasp things beyond a meme, although I would guess, like you, it gets tiring and trying so it’s easier to log out.

Lol thanks for the comment you're definitely right about that. I'm currently trying to find the fine balance between ranting that falls under complaining, and complaining that falls under comedy.
I think as I keep making videos the account will take on a life of it's own and I can make the rants into mostly comedy rather than an expression of momentary genuine annoyance.

I think the MBTI has lots of issues, I love trying to understand peoples perspectives in a very deep way. I have developed my own theory that fixes some of the major issues in Socionics and MBTI. It stays very true to the theories but I prefer an 8 function model, and silly things like Si being the ability to remember things is honed in to a more accurate definition. I put out a video on the INFJ and I quickly mentioned Keanu Reeves, everyone lost their minds lol. I'm over exaggerating but people don't like you questioning their favorite celebrities type. I will now have to put out a video explaining why if you use 8 functions INFP makes no sense. (Small example) Se PoLR makes no sense, the black hole of his personality is interacting with his environment. Why dose he love doing it so much? I will explain all 8 but, people loose their mind over a pseudoscience. Like literally there really can be no wrong answer, only measuring a different metric, but nobody will stop and hear out your metric if it clashes with their typing. Which again, only focuses on a different metric...

It's interesting that u compared the bias in mbti community to racism because there's actually racism (, sexism and antisemitism) deep in this community to the point it's becoming dangerous. For example apparently u will be accused of being a liar if u r a "NT" type and not white because being a "NT" type immediately means smart, calculated and sophisticated to this community and they're associating that with being white. It's very subtle but u can still find it in their reasonings.
On another note, HBO max is actually making a documentary about the dangers of MBTI and how it's affecting things (great now I'm a gang member according to HBO max). Idk if u have heard about it but it's called Persona and it hasn't came out yet and only the teaser is out now but I think it means that maybe, just maybe, mbti is going too far :)
