Yes, I remember him telling about some problems with IT band in one of the interviews. There were no details or anything about recovery though. If I’m not mistaken his narrow stance and knees forward (rather than out) may somehow relate to the IT band issues. I also have some troubles with it, and it seems that wide stance squat and sumo deadlift really deteriorate the situation. So far I’ve entirely switched to the same squat technique as John has and exlcuded sumo (only sometimes I do very light weight for mobility). This is my personal experience, but narrow stance solved the problem (there’s still some painful feelings, but more like a small discomfort). Maybe John can confirm this.

It’s something I’ve done in the past and noticed a benefit. It’s not part of my current programming with Mike T, but I had to shift some training days around with travel. Figured it was better to do this light day, rather than skip training entirely
