A 2 handed slash to a padded shin is substantially different than a crosscheck to the jaw. What abousism argument here is illogical and blatantly biased. Im a flames fan so I have 0 bone to pick in this situation. If anything a fine to McDavid is fine

Here’s something to consider. Suppose Marner elects to not move for whatever reason and despite being screwed over by management has an outstanding year. Then what? Leafs management would look like a donkeys backside.

I love how everyone is pointing out the slash Mcdavid did to try to say the cross check was fair (which it's not, soucy deserves the suspension because he did cross check McDavids head accident or not) but no one is talking about Zach Hyman charging in on the same scrum with an intentional Cross check to Big Zeds Head obviously intending on hurting him but because big Zed didn't fall down from it and because he is not a star player there is no suspension on Hyman? that's a double standard!
Why not talk about some more of the American markets? I am a Dallas fan living in Edmonton and I would love to hear some discussion on markets outside of Canada too!

Exactly CJ. Ryan McDonough is a perfect example for how an NMC can be waived. And he, unlike Marner, had come off a lot of winning, and he still understood that there was no room for his cap hit and waived his NMC.

No, it’s not because it’s McDavid. It’s because it happened after the game was over. I agree that there’s been a lot of this kind of stuff (from both teams btw) but this was different as it was both severe enough to warrant a hearing and it also occurred after the game was over and therefore clearly had nothing to do with playing hockey.

@@Clue96 Rielly didn’t cross check McDavid in the head. He cross checked Ridley Grieg. It’s the same situation here. It’s because someone got cross checked in the head once a hockey game was over - has nothing to do with it being McDavid. You can cope with it any way you like though.

As a Flyers fan, Have kind of tangentially started to follow the Leafs after a few SDP segments on Torts’ stranger moves this year.
That said, from what I’ve seen of Keefe, I can’t think of a better place for him than Jersey. There’s very little media pressure there - they split between Philly and New York, and hockey is a distant fourth sport in both markets. Couldn’t move more different from Toronto in terms of media scrutiny. The team is one of the more talented, young teams that’s actually looking for a coach. If they win a round or two in the playoffs, it’ll be seen as a great success.
Understand the concept of wanting to take some time off, but if I’m keefe I don’t think I’ve rubber stamped myself as a career NHL coach at this point. He has 5 years of experience with one team. I’d be concerned about getting backburnered for those head coach jobs.

No problem with a suspension for Soucy but McDavid has done more than enough to warrant a response from player safety also

@@zedskione player came across the entire ice surface to overhead lumberjack another players wrist. The other horizontally slashed another in the size of the leg. Vastly different. Maybe a fine for McDavid doing it after the game but no player has been suspended for that slash.
@@zedski What Alex did last year was an egregious slash to the hands of Drai. McDavid did the very same thing at least 5 Canucks did throughout the night. Everyone is slashing each other in the LEGS just like McDavid. I like how simple minds just call players Cry Babies when they aren't even close. McDavid gets roughed around like no one else in the NHL and never gets calls and doesnt complain.

What's the endgame there? You feel that McDavid would think that Hughes would be significantly impacted in his performance because of a small cut on his face?

If anyone was a bad boy on that play, it was Big Zed. Not gonna make any excuses here, as a Canucks fan, he did cross the line a bit last night. I just watched the actual footage from two good angles. The first crosscheck by Soucy was to the chest of McDavid (man up), I think in response to a chop. Then Soucy probably went for another shove but during that precise moment, 91 came in hot to nail McDavid in the numbers (do better, Big Zed) and Soucy's stick was now right there at face level. It's hard for me to blame Soucy 100% for something that involves additional factors. I dunno. Let the league badly sort it out. LOL.

Any slash by any player - like McDavid’s at the end of the game - should be 2 game suspension to McDavid. Why did Connor not just drop his gloves like a man? The cross checks to McDavid were just done by the Canucks in self defence. If McDavid didn’t start this stick attack or if Connor was immediately suspended for 2 games for starting the stick war - I am all good with that. 😀

Is there a possibility for the Leafs to renegotiate Tavares contract, have him sign for a lesser amount next year while adding 2 or 3 additonal years to be an assistant coach or even an assistant player coach? Would that affect next years cap hit? Or, would it not even be allowed under the NHL rules.
The inconsistency everyone talks about is because there's no standard, they look at everything as a case by case. And they take the players' defense into consideration, too. In this case, Soucy could argue that it wasn't his intention to hit McDavid's face, and if player safety looks at this and agrees, then the punishment would be lower than if they don't. I think player safety is right to take things on a case by case basis. What Sousy did in retaliation is different from Rielly just being mad at an empty net goal. Both actions are wrong but not the same, so the punishment shouldn't be the same either.
My big issue here is no fine or anything for McDavid for his slash. That says he's allowed to injure or attempt to injure anyone he wants with no consequences. That's going to cause more problems than anything. Because the players will continue to police themselves and feel justified to do so.
Look. I agree a suspension on that cross check is required, however I disagree with it being against Soucy. I know they say intentionally or accidentally doesn’t matter, but in this case I believe it does. If Zadorov doesn’t cross check McDavid from behind, it’s a non-issue. The cross check, more like a shove, hits him low in the chest, and with just enough force to push him away. You wanna call that, then make sure you call every player that shoves a guy in the slot when battling for position.
As I said, I think a suspension is warranted, but I think it should be against Zadorov. He was the one who cross checked an unsuspecting player from behind, and it was his deliberate illegal action that cause the cross check to the face. So honestly, I’d give Sousy a fine, and Zadorov the suspension.

If Soucy only gets fined, the DOPS is basically setting up a 'dunking booth' situation. "Step right up and cross-check McDavid in the face! Only $5000!"
The Soucy one is weird. The crosscheck from Zadorov makes McDavids head drop down a bit. I don't think Soucy meant to get McDavid in the face.

Chris, come on man. McDavid starts/escalates the situation after the game ends with a 2 handed slash. Again, after the game ends. It's not black and white.
I don't understand why Boston fans would complain about the interference thing as if it matters. I lost count how many times a bad call was made on the Leafs that could have made a difference, but the reality was, the Leafs were never the better team regardless and Boston was horribly outplayed on Sunday as well. Just accept your team is not the better team here and that your team is going to lose regardless if the refs help you or hurt - it will not matter. Florida will win. Enjoy the 2nd round for what it is.
Fans would have a point if their team was objectively playing better and the refs were screwing them, but that's just not the case here. They stink when they compare to Florida. Florida is 2x as good.
