  • Why are we RV camping on strangers property? Finding RV overnighters is one thing, but this takes it to a bizarre level. We are smack dab in the middle of Texas and desperately need a spot to stay as we get closer to the solar eclipse. RV camping spots are hard to come by with this event and we are going to share what on earth we are thinking in this episode.
This raises the most important question...would you do this?

You could also just fill a purchased DEF can or buy a DEF can from Amazon (it's blue) and fill it at the truck stop and then take the can to your other side and fill it. I carry a 5 gallon can with me and use it whenever and then just fill it at a truck stop. That said, my 2022 Ram 3500 has the filler next to the diesel. Very wierd that GM did what it did. Love your videos btw.

Get a flat orange sign that opens up to block off a pump. Park in the pump to the left of the blocked one. Run the hose to the left side. As a truck driver. Just go during slow times. Usually enough pumps open to not have to worry about it.

You need one of those felt puzzle roll ups. You spreadit out on the table, do your puzzle on it, and when you need the table for other stuff, you roll it up, the pieces stay fairly tight inside the roll, and it stores away until you are ready to continue the puzzle.

For your DEF, search for a Self Priming Siphon Pump at Home Depot or Self Priming Jiggler Pump at Harbor Freight. I have the same truck and they work awesome. Just set the jug on your motor, drop the hose into both ends and shake it a couple times. It will empty the jug completely with zero spills. Can’t recommend it enough, I’ve tried many other solutions.

We know an rv where they did the faucet drip rather than disconnect their water when there was a risk of freezing. They forgot to open their gray tank valve and flooded their rv. Water was literally gushing down their stairs. An enormous mess. So yeah, we disconnect like you do. Not worth the risk that we forget a step.

Our Sprinter has the DEF under the hood on the passenger side. I park as close as possible to the pump and it reaches ok. I hate box DEF so the tight squeeze is worth it to me. When DEF first came out, lots of folks were pouring DEF into the diesel tank so OEMs felt it safer to separate the spouts. Nowadays "most" people are familiar with DEF.

Hey guys, been watching your channel for years now but this is my first time commenting. Regarding your puzzle dilemma, you should purchase a neoprene puzzle mat. They are actually made to work the puzzle on top of the mat, BUT....the great thing is that you can also place it on top of your puzzle while you travel and keep it in place. Just buy one that is too big for your table, preferably with a few inches hanging off each side, but at least two of the sides. The neoprene will grab the sides of the table and won't slip, and will keep your puzzle pieces in place from the weight of the mat. Hope this helps! Safe travels!!!

I noticed you were storing the DEF in your storage department inside the camper. as corrosive as it is, It's better to just buy it when you need it than carry it with you period. Also it's right under your bedroom. As for the pump, you can just pull the right hand side of the truck as close to the pump as possible. Considering the difference in cost and also wasted plastic. This would be a game changer on

It's a good thing to have the DEF fill and the diesel fill separated, because any amount of DEF that gets into the diesel tank is catastrophic. You're easily looking at thousands of dollars to replace the entire fuel system. You'd be surprised at how often people mistakenly put the DEF nozzle into the diesel tank at a truck stop. It just takes a momentary lapse of focus and WHAM...big trouble. It is much harder to make that mistake when you're filling DEF from a container. Happy 100,000 miles!

  • @indycoltssbxli

I used boxed DEF - the truck lane is for diesel, everywhere else is for DEF.
I NEVER open both the diesel fuel and DEF tanks during the same stop. Makes it easy to avoid silly costly mistakes.

I feel your pain, I have a 2015 Silverado duramax, the way I do it is I pull to the pump at an angle and get close to the pump it leaves me just enough room to slip out the door, that gives you just enough hose to get to the def tank . You think they would think of us RV’ers that have theses poorly engineered designs and add another three feet of hose to the DEF pump😑, great video , Thanks Hanks!

I have the same truck and it is now deleted and doesn’t require DEF. However, when I did have to use DEF the hoses at the pumps were plenty long enough to reach so that’s odd. I would highly recommend you delete that truck or at least stop buying the DEF off the shelf. The stuff on the shelves could have been sitting there for months vs the fuel station DEF is pretty fresh.

Totally agree on truck stop non-interference. They are making a living doing this and if you show you follow the rules there are no issues. I always pull up to the line and run in for bathroom use after fueling. I think truckers respect those of us that follow their guidelines which are basically just common courtesy. I have waiting several times, out of the way, while they back a rig into a single slot, most times a get a wave and that is just being a good human.

Save the DEF box and reuse it. You can fill the empty container at the DEF pump. We stopped at Buccees, and it was so much cheaper doing that.

One idea on DEF is to keep your container and refill at the pump. That way you can get the lower price. 😊

Please please please buy y’all one of those puzzle holders… I got so tickled watching y’all try to figure out what to do with the partially finished puzzle, it made my day lol…. I got my tri-fold puzzle holder on Amazon … it’s about $50 but it is so worth it… on a rainy day, I do my puzzle in my Clam tent outside while hubby is inside watching his shoot ‘em ups lol… then on travel day, I put a piece of Rubbermaid shelf liner under it and it rides like a champ on our kitchen table! My daughter actually gave me another one to keep at home on our kitchen table… We love y’all’s videos, stay safe, God bless and one day play us all something on that beautiful guitar!

If you flip the DEF jug so the spout is near the top instead of the bottom, you will splash less from the jug burping air as it empties.

Kyle, I remember you saying you might be having stomach issues and that you cut down on coffee.
I think I noticed you drinking La Croix Sparkling water. If I am correct about that, you may consider not drinking that often. I got unbelievable heartburn/stomach issues from that. Try cutting that out and see how you’re doing. I drink it occasionally now, still love it, I just can’t drink it daily. Hope this helps!😊

We have a 2021 Sierra so the DEF and diesel fills are side by each.. Regardless, I still refill the odd DEF jug at the bulk stations, as not all diesel filling stations have DEF around here. The price of bulk is usually 50% lower so that makes it worthwhile.

Guys you could just carefully disconnect the puzzle in sections then carefully put the sections back in the box. When ready to work on it again carefully take the completed sections out of the box and put back together 😊

Personally, I would try to see what size hose you need to fit over the Def pump. Then, any time you need to fill up the Def, slip the hose over the pump nozzle, and there you go an extension 😅

I always use the DEF pump at the truck centers. I usually pull in close to the pump so it is easier for the hose to reach. I've heard sometimes the jugs have old stock and running "fresh" DEF from fuel centers is a better route. Plus I can always fill it to full.

OK, first I am spoiled. My DEF fill tank is located immediately next to my diesel fill. BUT, couldn't you pull up to a DEF pump of your passenger side? Honestly, the pump price for DEF is close to 30-40% cheaper AND i don't worry that it has aged too long and degraded the general quality of the product. The one disappointing aspect of the TDS card is that it doesn't discount DEF, but you are saving anyway by using the pump versus the jug. Really enjoy your videos! Safe travels Hanks!

Puzzle saving idea I think if you took duct tape and taped it along the perimeter of your counter where it sticks up about an inch you could even take another piece of duct tape and rip it down in half and use each of those halves to go along the inside of the duct tape that sticks up over the counter that inch and that way the puzzle is not sticking to it if it bumps up into it But the duct tape will just stick along the outside edge of your counter all the way around and again just take another piece of duct tape rip it down the center from one end to the other and run that along the inside of the duct tape you already have situated, so it gives a good Side on both sides where it’s not sticky what sticking up and then the pieces won’t stick to it if they move around during driving, I think that’s a great idea and I just came up with it. And then when you’re using the puzzle working with it, you can pull all that tape off and just go over to one of your tall cupboards closet door and just on the inside of the door tape that piece of tape and let it hang down just touch it in a couple spots so it hears to the doorand then it’s ready for your next use so you can keep using it

You replied to my comment :-) But I also drive a Chevy with the stupid DEF inlet under the hood. I just angle the truck towards the pump. Then again I am not in a lifted truck and I am tall. I don't like how the DEF hose drags along the top of the fender though.
