He always just held a mirror to society. Sarcasm master. Musical genius.

Brilliant description of the man.
@@charleybarley914 Mogonzart
He wasn’t talking about THE Bobby Brown, it’s just the name of his character.
yeah the bobby brown was 10 when the song came out
It's about his brother Bob he's making fun(like a parody or maybe his intent was more fooked up like satire)of. Brown is about the color of POOP! For real that's what it's :P about. I SHIT YOU NOT!!!!!
i would bet a lot of money that bobby browns parents didnt know about this song
@@ferra5804 It's not even about that black man lol it's about FZ's brother being gay and incontinent parody/satire...
@Zolar Czakl O shid you're right and the radio guy interviewed Frank and Frank didn't like him I just looked it up again guess I read something somewhere that was booshid! :P
Watching your face as the song progressed was priceless!
Yep 🤣😂
We got another convert, folks!
gold haha
So true!
Yeah when I saw the title I was like ”oh boy here we go”
Frank Zappa was the greatest, a musical genius. And yes, he was a savage!!
The guitarist who was waving to the crowd while Frank was reading the note is Adrian Belew, an amazing guitarist who later when on to play with The Talking Heads and then King Crimson. Zappa worked with top musicians, like Vinnie Colaiuta, Chester Thompson, George Duke, Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai. He wasn't just a song writer and musician, he's considered by many to be a great American composer.
Napoleon Murphy Brock.
Outstanding content in your comment.
He first left for David Bowie who "stole" him from Zappa after he watched backstage a concert in Berlin. ;)
Steve Vai even played the guitar for the album version for the Disharge Party Hat Jazz.. That says alot lol
I saw Belew with his band the Bears, great show.
Zappa is a acquired taste it take time and many years of patience for you to never understand Zappa
That was, (is)the beauty Zappa.
freeform
Exactly. Or not. Either one way, or the other. Or the real Other. 3:)
I got it right away, at age 16, after my first listen.
Conceptual continuity.
"Frank you nasty!" Lol!
Loved your reaction India. Yes , I was rocking this song in the 80's. It actually has nothing to do with the Bobby Brown you're thinking of. Just happens to be the name of the character.
Zappa, was one of the biggest poets and musicians, that ever breath...
Bobby Brown was a little boy when this song came out in 1979. Hell, New Edition wasn't even thought about until 1982.
and he was dead right about him even at that age, FZ forever
There are more Bobby Browns I guess....
It’s not about Whitney Houston’s husband. This was 1979.
This was Halloween 1977. The Sheik Yerbouti album came out in 1979.
It's absolutely not about that Bobby Brown. This Bobby Brown is just a character.
Still have this original album....Sheik Yerboutie.... Frank was a musical genius!
"Flakes" is my favorite cut off that album
@@davidcobble2050 California's got the most of them, boy they got a host of them....
I saw him four times. Great shows all.
The name will always be funny lol shake your booty

What a surprise seeing this. You should do a reaction to Catholic Girls
Another great gem on the Joe's garage album Catholic girls what a great song

Jewish Princess
Camarillo brillo.
Why not go straight to Doing Work for Yuda?
Got to love the 70's ... Remember when the world wasn't so up tight and still had a sense of humor
...and it had a grasp of satire.
Remember, Frank was being satirical and poking fun at the gay disco scene
This song is about two journalists who did not understand music yet interviewed Zappa claiming to know music and wrote off Frank's music in the sixties. This song is about what might have happened to those journalists a few years later in the late seventies. It is a tribute song to those two journalists. Comedy and payback at its best
(in my best Johnny Carson voice) "I did not know that."
Shit ugly zappa changed the World of boring assholes 🤣
You are correct! Frank was in a class all his own. R.I.P. Frank
I love Zappa. He is an acquired taste. Some of his instrumentals are absolutely beautiful.
Watermelon in Easter Hay comes to mind
I was a big Zappa fan back in the day. I saw him twice before "200 Motels" which was with Flo and Eddie from the group The Turtles (Happy Together), once after when he was on the bill with The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Although Frank did a lot of comedy music he also did many more serious compositions that are devilish and complicated for musicians to play.
My Zappa story. I had about 20 friends that were all Zappa fans as well. We all decided to buy the first three rows at the Fillmore East for one of his performances, and we all decided to buy and wear those fake eye glasses with the big nose and bushy mustache. When Frank walked out and saw us he was momentarily speechless, stuttered his intro, quickly composed himself and went on with the performance. While we were laughing our asses off. I'll never forget it.
Are you from New York City? If so, I saw Flo and Eddie and the Mothers of Invention in Central Park at one of the Schaeffer beer concerts. They released balloons in the air, and I think they threw Frisbees into the audience, but I don't remember. Sometimes artists do this. I once saw Rod Stewart at Madison Square Garden and he passed out beer to the audience, and kicked soccer balls out to the audience.
@@taino20 Yes, I'm from NYC. I saw the "200 Motels" concert at the Fillmore East. I also saw Roddy twice before "Maggie May" and once after. I saw him that final time at MSG when he did all of the "Revolver" album. I think perhaps that's the concert you're speaking of? But yes, I can see you were also one of those people who loved that music then, and the only way to enjoy it was to go see your favorites live.
@@helgar791 I don't remember too much about the Rod Stewart concert at the Garden, except that the stage did revolve. I did see other artists there. I saw many concerts in NYC at places such as, The Beacon, The Academy of Music, the Filmore and other places. I also saw many concerts in Central Park at the Schaefer beer concerts in the summer, and later at the pier on 42nd st. I saw many, many artists there, but I don't remember exactly who. It was a long time ago
@@taino20 I too saw many concerts as you did...and yes, that was the concert I was at. He did "Maybe I'm Amazed" which was a radio hit for him at the time. Great night.
no mahavishnu orchestra was opening act for Franks band...
This was made when people had a sense of humor, and wasn't offended at the drop of a hat. And No he not talking about that Bobby Brown, this was way before him
Believe me I was around when this came out. People were both offended and amused. I think that was part of why he did it. Zappa was always aware of his effect on people
I have been following Frank since 1966.
I LOVE Frank. He's the real deal.
"Frank was a savage". Ha Ha. Welcome aboard. " Frank done broke my headphones".
The world needs a new Zappa!
Robert Johansson And an audience to go with him!
There will never be another Frank Zappa.
Quality reaction lol I love her
Haven't heard this song in 30 years. Your reaction was hilarious.
I was rocking this and other Zappa material about 23 hours a day. I took an hour off to sleep.
You gotta remember, this song isn't complimentary of the titular "Bobby Brown" in any way shape or form. This song is really about toxic masculinity before that was really a concept in most people's minds. Its about the way society not only excuses the bad behavior of men like Bobby Brown because they're good looking and athletic, but actively encourages it, no matter how depraved or closeted he might be in reality.
I thought It was abt a jock becoming a homosexual
@Randy Rome you're a joke. Toxic masculinity is just an umbrella term for cultural expectations for men that are harmful to men and women alike. Only a fool would try to say that there is nothing about our society's cultural expectations don't need to be examined from time to time. We can always do better, and should.
Randy Rome
Okay, I may get where you are coming from....it’s the title/label that has annoying connections, but the concept is something you agree is an issue.
@@zipahdeedoodah The all american boy.
Your reaction to this was so hilarious I had to sub. I love Zappa, thanks for doing this one.
ANOTHER ZAPPA CLASSIC
Heard this stoned out of my mind first time I heard this early 1980. lmfao.
Your reaction was PERFECT
Yessssssssss Frank is the man , I use to crank the volume of this on my parents stereo in the early 80's I must of been 14 , frank is a genius!!!
I traded stones love you live for Sheik yer boutie in 83.
My mom used to blast this song in the car when I was a kid in the 80s, haha. We're Swedish though, took a while until my brother and I understand wtf that song was about.
Im blown away you looked at this song! I love it! Thank you lady!
🤣🤣🤣 The moment you finally realized the context of the song at 4:50 is simply the best lolol
Frank was a musical GENIUS!!!
Thanks for the laugh
Genius of boring clowns
My Darling .... You reacted to Zappa ..... 😆😆😆 I'm so proud !
Bobby Brown was 10, so I guess it was a fictional name. Hilarious song. Black Napkins is pretty funny too.
What is funny about Black Napkins? It's an instrumental piece. A great guitar vehicle for Zappa, but nothing funny about it.
@@zolarczakl3880 The story of the title.
I laughed my ass off the first time I heard Bobby Brown on Shiek Yerbouti. Bobby Brown was a radio exec satirezed by Frank after a night of revelry. I'd just heard an interview with Frank before this album came out and he described his music as a cross between Vaudeville and journalism which seems pretty accurate.
I love this girls reaction to this song. I saw Frank in the 80's, Brilliant.
I applaud you for checking out this song...not only because I didn't know there was a cool live version of this song but I scared my cat, I was laughing so hard at your reactions. And the best part, Frank has an entire album of offensive gems called "Have I Offended Someone?" Give it a listen.
Poor kitties, sometimes some of them are such p*ssies sometimes! Hehehe!
🙀❣️😹
This version is available on the video “Baby Snakes,” not the song, but a concert video of the 1977 Halloween concert in New York. I really suggest trying to find it, the show is incredible. There’s a couple other videos on RUclips from it like “Titties and Beer” and Dinah Moe Humm” with Spanish subtitles.
Steve Arnold
I think there was an early 80’s show in nyc by what looks like the docks or a marina that was spectacular!!! The set-list had “He’s So Gay” and I’m pretty sure this track too.
^ Dooof, just noticed that I totally overused the word “sometimes” in my last comment, lol!
* Ahhhaa, it was The Pier 84’
Zappa was garbage
Thank you, Frank Zappa, for fighting for freedom of speech.
As George Carlin said, if you do not like something, change it or turn it off. No one is forcing you to listen or watch.
I wish they were both here today for social commentaries. It would be hilarious enough that people wouldn't be so scared/offended of everything.
In my shiney black 1969 VW BUG and 8 track player I'd speed from Simi Valley Lost Angeles to San Diego and back, playin' Frank Zappa
I saw Frank a couple of times in the '70's early 80's. Great musicianship and shows. He was definitely unique and had some great backup players too.
Love the shot with Adrian Belew.
I saw him around that time too. Didnt like the 80s band too much. Frank went thru a age crisis, hung out with younger musicians and the music reflected more sophomoric humor. But that "Roxy and Elsewhere" band was his prime to me.
I laughed so hard when I saw your picture because I knew what you were hearing! Zappa rules!
Still rockin' this. FZ was a genius.
honey, millions might told you so, but let me say it again: yor reactions while frank was doing this, were sooo cute! greeting form berlin, germany
Wow! I can't believe you played that. I heard it when I was teenager when it came out. Everyone had the same look on their face when it played. Frank was an absolute freak and musical genius, and from what I heard...a family man that didn't do drugs. Thanx, haven't heard that in a very long time!
You are right he never touched drugs. He wasn't opposed to people doing drugs he just didn't want to take anything that would effect his mental processes. I understand his parties were wild. I also understood that when on tour or recording if a band member was high when they were supposed to be working they were immediately fired.
I’ts a caricature of the way Zappa saw people in showbiz behave in the seventies. I think.
Watermelon in Easter Hay - on Joe's Garage. Best guitar solo ever recorded.
Not to mention probably the absolute best of Zappa's "serious" compositions.
I have to say the live version of muffin man is fucking epic. probably the best solo ever in my opinion
It was a Cheesy little I amp with the sign on the front that said Fender Champ and it was a second-hand guitar it was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar
The shocked reaction to this song will never, ever get old.
LMFAO
Zappa was amused that this song wasnt censored at all here in Scandinavia and thus did well as a hit single here
Love that people are reacting to Zappa on youtube. It keeps his music alive!
If you wanna hear Frank get savage, try "Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk". It takes aim at televangelists.
Decent one, but old and tired by now
@@aaronschuschu4314 More relevant now than ever it was. Stop tryharding
Relevant, but again, old and tired. Who doesn’t say Billy Graham and Richard Nixon shared a prostitute and that Reagan probably had something to do with it just because rolling stone said so? When what’s more relevant to now is whoever it was that got shit going online because they felt that entitled to sex to trash everything if they couldn’t get laid? And what the fuck does tryharding even mean? I swear you young people just make up words every other day and expect people to just read your mind to get whatever the hell it is you’re talking about.
@@aaronschuschu4314 What?
What, mr little no videos and yet more subscribers than me that quite curiously opened an account in the midst of shit getting out of hand six months ago? One of a number of accounts that are so pro Biden I wonder about what side they’re really on? Accounts that aren’t even located in America?
I loved your reaction. Lol. My Pop's was a huge Zappa fan, so I grew up listening to Zappa.
This song was played at my wedding in 1983, all my friends sang along very loudly. To this day if I play this a a gathering of my friends they all sing along. Probably the only song they know all the lyrics to.
Best concert I ever attended was a Zappa concert...
I wasn't a fan of Franks music but, I was a BIG fan of him! Frank was an interesting guy and a VERY intelligent man. Never did drugs either. One of his kids is Dweezle another one is Moon Unit, lol, he was an INDIVIDUAL! Thanks India. Blessings.Namaste.
There are two more kids, Ahmet and Diva.
Shit ugly zappa changed the World of boring assholes 🤣
Her reaction, priceless 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I used to listen to FrankZappa back in the day . And your face said it all while you was watching LMFAO.
Jewish Princess is also 1 you should watch .
MORE ZAPPA... INDIA LOVES IT!
This has NOTHING to do with New Edition's Bobby Brpwn, this song came out waaaaay before anybody ever heard of him.
Frank was a truthful musical genius .
I've seen this clip of yours a couple of time. To see the shock in your face, is just the comic relief I need. Keep in mind, Zappa had some very controversial lyrics, but he could do it. He was such a good composer and guitarist, that he could pull it off.
your reaction was priceless!!
Yeah the whole album is this kind of stuff interwoven with just blistering instrumentals. Usually around “Broken Hearts Are For Assholes” the jig is up for anyone who doesn’t already know what Zappa is doing.
The musics great and the lyrics a comedy .. cant loose ...
Your facial expressions were priceless on this!
I'm thinking someone didn't tell you about Frank. Your expression is priceless. He was censored a lot. Big Shocker yes.
Yes he was censored.
But Simon and Garfunkel got away nice and clean
Remember the song Cecilia?
She was not your average " little catholic girl now was she"?
No! she was your girlfriend and whilst you were having a coffee downstairs in the kitchen, she was upstairs getting off with your best friend.
And when she was done with him, she would come downstairs and get off with you.
Then you would go to the doctor and ask him "why does it hurt when I pee"?
And at that point you suddenly realize "hey she gave me vd"
And they call this censorship?
Frank dished it out equally for absolutely everyone.
Hi there, India! Love Your reactions. It's so wonderful to see what music does to us. Now, Frank Zappa talked about the bakcground for this song, when he first introduced it in the concert series in New York in October 1977. The name Bobby Brown is fictional, the artist Bobby Brown was not a figure back then. To explain the song he tells the story of the Three Assholes. There were these three young music journalists who made an appointment to interview Frank in his hotel room. They arrived, bringing their three girlfriends along, and it became clear pretty quick that the three journalists had an agenda. They wanted to attack and ridicule Frank for being sexist in order to score with their girlfriends. Frank was so pissed off that he wrote this song dedicated to the three assholes. If you ckeck out the CD Box or stream the Zappa Halloween 77, you can listen to the man himself explaining if. He does it so much better than me. So, yes, this is a parody. Just like Dinah Moe Humm (you might want to check that one out, too.
Now, I can't be commenting this at this moment and not comment on what's going on in the US. I'm so sad that this has to be a reality. Things REALLY have to change. It's a disgrace. It seems like justice and Power is corrupted beyond belief. And it's been going on for so long. Incidently, you should check out Zappa's More Trouble Every Day, in the original version from the mid sixties he has this lovely phrase 'I'm not black, but there are a whole lotta times I wish I could say I'm not white!'
even though the song came out in 79 this live performance is from 2 years before in 77, Zappa would play lots on unreleased songs while on tour.
Fun fact: Frank Zappa was probably the most underrated guitar player, simply because he didn't showcase it. There was this gathering once of a whole group of musicians, and Zappa took his guitar at some point, and started playing riffs of other guitar players in their style, and at some point came to Eric Clapton, who was at the time considered the best guitar player, and imitated him perfectly. Clapton left pissed off, since Zappa just proved he was better than Clapton.
Yep, perfect reaction for non-Zappa fan. 😂😂
We was jammin Zappa since the late 60s. lol Frank was THE savage!!
India is the queen of facial expressions.
That alice tapestry flag is amazing!!! Wish I knew where to get one for my room!
your reaction makes this double funny :))))))) yes I grew up with this...thanks for cheering me up! x
0:25 Not exactly. "Bobby Brown" was released on the album "Sheik Yerbouti" which is pronounced "Shake Your Booty"
"Frank, you is nasty nasty" 😃
It is difficult, if not impossible, to prepare one's self for Frank Zappa.......
He was truly unique.......
first time i listened to him was when i saw my dads itunes loaded it automatically onto my phone, 3rd period science class and I listened to “the white boy troubles” i just sat and listened, then out of nowhere
“you’ve been messin with the state bird of new jersey mothafucka!”
busted out laughing in a dead silent classroom
The vulgarities are American ‘slang’, so many Swedes don’t get the lyrics, and it’s often on the radio. I still giggle when my 73yo mother innocently hums along, thinking it’s a ‘nice wholesome oldie’, due to its familiar 1950’s I-iv-ii-V chord progression.
:) Dinah-Moe Humm, Dinah-Moe Humm, where's this Dynamo commin from - done spent 3 hours an ain't got a crum! From Dinah-Moe, from Dinah-Moe, from Dinah-Moe Humm. Great backing singing too (Tina Turner). Go look up the lyrics .. from Zappa's excellent "Overnite Sensation" LP. Even the cover art is ahem set in a bedroom. Zombie Woof on that album is good too.
I was born in 75 and remember my dad playing this 😁 love Frank zappa.
Your best reaction video Zappa was a legend. Try Jewish Princess
You've got it, I'm a Brit, and a great fan of FZ, and yes, it is about Jocks. We have the same sort over here in Blighty, and at universities over here they tend to play Rugby.
Thank you for reacting to this
FUNNY AS HELLLL! LOL.
Ya gotta check out “Dinah-Moe Humm” by Frank Zappa.
Zappa calling them as he saw them, but without prejudice, or the lack of truth. My first concert ever. I miss his presence in this world. He would have made a great president!
Hahhahahhaha...this is the only reaction on this super funny song, his best, that is out there that I saw anywhere..everyone except you have been to chicken to post a reaction on it...cred to you there India...
Love your reaction to this classic comic rock masterpiece....keep it up!!!
hahahahahaahah, what a funny reaction. Yeah I listened to this whole album over and over for ages when it came out and I was a kid. Much easier to listen to it when CD's came out cuz you could just leave it on repeat. The best part was when he was reading the note and they requested "enema bandit", haha the look on your face. Awesome reaction.
Genius, Genius, Genius, Genius, Genius, Genius,
Exquisite taste imma subscribe immediately, intro song fire too
By this time we had already digested a huge amount of FZ at the age of 19. Started with Live at the Fillmore in 1973. Check that one out. At thirteen we were listening to “Do you like my new car?” This music changes you in profound ways! You can no longer accept Bullshit!
Frank testified in front of Congress about explicit lyrics. He's a genius and yes I was playing this in the 70's. Lot's of sexual content but it's all for fun. Try Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy, or Dinah Moe Hum(with Tina Turner singing backup)!
Only a few years after that was when 2 Live Crew took up the issue for rap.
Tina and the Ikettes! They did Montana, too.
@@gj8683 I have the Classic Albums show of Apostrophe(') and Overnite Sensation. The Ikettes did a session that ended up on both of those albums. Nice little factoid about it on the DVD...
There's a weird tinkly noise heard during Dirty Love. While playing the multitrack tape, Dweezil found out it was The Ikettes' jewelry swinging around while they sang, and Frank left it in. You're welcome, now you'll notice it every time you hear it.
The PMRC forgot or ignored the song by Simon and Garfunkel.
Cecilia.
Now Cecilia was no good little "catholic girl" was she?
His shows were always so much fun ! I REALLY MISS LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HIM EVERY YEAR ! First saw him at 11 years old ...1977
This turns up 'India Reacts ' and 'to Frank Zappa', OK I say to myself this should be interesting :)… Then I see 'Reacts to Bobby Brown', it's then OMG, India has jumped in the deep end of the pool without her floaties !!! LOL
Seriously, once you get out of therapy, back up a bit and VERY gently start to explore the rather unique world of Zappa.. If you ever recover from the shock of this that is. But good on you anyway, Zappa is a genius and amazing.. the ultimate composer.
this reaction is priceless!
If you really want to get freaked out, listen to the song "The Torture Never Stops" on Frank's 1976 album "Zoot Allures"
Penguin in bondage.
Disco Boy
heard that first with a group of work mates tripping...i introduced a friend to zappa and he bought zoot allures and when the first coupla songs broke out they found humor in them but when that sucker got into the perverse screams they said turn it off...it freaked them out..it is the real hotel california or adrenochrome dont come home.
Loving your reaction. You barely recover before each shocking lyric.
