    Good stuff,, HC is beautiful boat, I have a baby HC,, A 37 ft Tayana Pilot house, and I simply love it. Offshore she comes into her own, great motion, solid and pretty to look at, yes more teak then a forest, but it adds to the charm. Enjoy your videos, lots of good info, thank you. Cheers. Pops Fl.

    Having started on my dad's Catalina 36, then being aboard larger hunters and Catalinas while out cruising now on my own HC33 I would take my "tiny" HC33 all day long. It has so much more storage space, better/safer layout for passage making, room for equipment, better build quality and motion...yeah the wood sucks to keep up with, but for long term cruising I'll take it all day long. Having been back and sailing my dad's Catalina this summer, while it's fun for how easily it accelerates, I really don't care for the motion, even just on Lake Huron, than I do my HC33 on the ocean. Apples to oranges though I know.

    I am well aware of the "hate" so many sailors have for Hunter Sailboats.. You know I even had a surveyor once, tell me she wouldn't bother to survey a Hunter..
    So when you featured a Hunter 410 in your "$80,000 Sailboats" episode I expected the backhanded compliments you offered the boat.. And while they are not as nice as a Swan or an Oyster, they are on par with the Beneteau, Jeaneaus, Catalinas and many other of the so-called production boats..
    But then approximately 13:06 into the video, you commented:
    "And yes, it is a Hunter. And I would never intend to cross an ocean on this boat"
    Let's not forget the Hunter is CE Class A certified which means:
    "CE CLASS A yachts are designed for large sea voyages (everywhere), in which wind force may exceed 8 on the scale of BEAUFORT and waves can also exceed a significant height of 4 meters. These yachts are designed largely to be self-sufficient in this rather hostile environment."
    And by the way.. You may want to take a look at the RUclips Channel "Jibsea".. It is published by a young couple (under 30 or so) with only a year or two of sailing experience.. They just crossed the over from the Caribbean over to Ireland in a Hunter 42.. And yes, they did run into some pretty heavy seas..
    So thanks for your, otherwise informative series of videos.. flk
    P.S. And don't think Hunters are only good as floating "condos".. Here in Galveston Bay, they often cross the finish line first..
    flk k

    Hi Tim, you're doing a great job with this series, but I think it's time you cover hulls and keels, and then cutter, sloops and ketches. You've branched out into so many boats, it's getting hard to know "what flavor you want". I think you should get into the actual designs. I bought a Nauticat 44 largely due to it's "comfort performance" in heavy seas and the fact that I don't want to just bomb around the Bahamas.

    • @LadyKSailing
      @LadyKSailing  2 года назад

      Yea can do :) In a nutshell the question is, was the boat built to withstand the ocean? Ie. is it "blue water". It's not about size. It's about construction. And the Hunter just wasn't.

  • @DCGULL01
    @DCGULL01 2 года назад +1

    So, about that Hunter (hated by so many!)... she WILL circumnavigate the planet- if properly outfitted, of course- albeit not downwind with the main! However, a massive code 0, or other properly designed downwind sail and will create a faster downwind cruiser with comfort & width. Anything Hunter built over 36' is a CE: A rated vessel from design to execution. I want the H2Oline, but- really want to keep it under 40' LOA. But, a nice (under 20 year old) H 41DS has my name all over it. I really like the pullman fore cabin & well designed wet head in the bow. And the aft stateroom can actually have airflow! Bonus! Yet, I can't seem to find one in that elusive $80k window ('cuz, you know there's a 30K refit right behind it for proper passage making.)
