I’m on night shift and this basically came out in the middle of the night for me at 9am. I stayed up for two hours watching the trailer on repeat and looking at other creators videos.
I thought it was to play off the fear of him outliving everyone else. He lost his wife, his son, Cayde. Before he flies into the Pale Heart you see him look at Amandas scarf around his arm and the camera focuses on his comm link with Ikora....
I genuinely have a feeling that the abomination at 10:05 is Fikrul. I think the purpose of this trailer is showing the witness trying to convert the guardians by showing them their greatest failures. Caydes failure was his own death, Zavalas was losing his family, Uldrens was creating Fikrul... I can't pin one for Ikora but it's probably in there somewhere. EDIT: I realised something... Ikora's failure would be the vanguard. From memory she got tossed into it head first after Osiris left and never felt like she was cut out for it... So maybe her failure is seeing everyone around her dying/failing while she, who always believed she wasn't meant to be there, is still standing. Someone mentioned her Red War arc and her immense survivors guilt so it would make so much sense.
I agree I think we are getting a look at what the witness is showing the characters throughout the story. Ikoras has something to do with the explosion I think cause that is her eye correct? I have no idea what it means though
Ikora’s failure could also be the death of Cayde, ever since he died, we can see the pain ikora felt over other characters and this has been alluded to in the past Back in haunted, there was ikora’s lingering regret being likely Cayde, and we had the first reveal of the final shape I could see ikora having something like tears of joy to seeing Cayde alive again
I highly doubt we're fighting, let alone killing, Zavala. Keith David has a net worth of 5 million, which is a whole million higher than Lance Reddick had before his death. I don't think they're going to burn money like that.

Seeing the vision with Zavala and the Traveler makes me think the Witness is going to pull the ‘Watch as the Traveler left us. It will do the same to you’ card to get him to give in.
Broooo the new expansion boutta be crazy. The sniper is gonna be part of my celestial damage rotation, the potential Zavala plot twist is wild, and the day one raid experience will be so wild considering this is the end of the saga.

I don't know if someone has touched on this yet but the ghost floating next to Ikora at around 7:35 is actually Zavala's ghost Targe (the shell matches the one Targe has in the original Red War campaign). This could mean nothing obviously but it just seems strange that Zavala's ghost is noticeably distant from him in every shot we've seen of this specific scene.
Imagine. That would be so badass. Him fully powered up with Prismatic going absolute ham on us fighting for the chance to reunite with everyone he has lost- desperate and untethered. Tears streaming down his face while he tears guardians limb from limb and crushes their ghosts. I’d kill to play that fight.
The whole concept is that there is no true good and evil. What’s good for some may not be for others. Therefore the greater good is generally what’s considered “good” but that seems quite skewed to the witness. All of the characters have their own ideas of “good” based on their own personal losses and desires. It’s some deep stuff and totally human and relatable.
I remember when Destiny was first announced that they said Mass Effect was a big influence. Looking at it all up to the point of this trailer, the Final Shape is Destiny's "Mass Effect 3" and the Witness and what it wants is "The Reapers" and the "Harvest". As a big Mass Effect series fan and Destiny fan, this is damn beautiful!
At 5:05 when Cross is talking about Crow and Zavala, they are 10000000% seeing their possible future. @John-nj6xl Funny stereotype you've created there. "I love how Crow has killed a Vanguard leader and we should forgive him for everything." Absolutely terrible take.
I believe the Veiled Statues/cloaked figures represents the Penitent of the Witness's species. The 1st one we see is with Zavala holding what appear to be a shard of glass, & we know the Witness has multiple themes, including shattering glass as was seen in Lightfall. Secondly when the Witness is speaking to Zavala there are MANY cloaked figures behind him, the Witness speaks through one of them behind Zavala & eventually they all fall into smoke, (representing them becoming the Witness I think). I also wonder if all the dissected humanoid statues on the Pyramid ships are members of the Precursor race that werent part of the Penitent, thus leaving the Veiled Statues as whole representing them. The cloaked figures also wear similar cloaks the Precursors wore in the Witness's origin cutscene but w/o the coverage of the eyes.
That's not what they represent, the veiled figure is the gardener, there is many things that point to this, but it's specially true because of a lore card from deep stone crypt where saint meets this veiled figure and it's the voice of the traveler

No that is not the Winnower. The Winnower is shapeless but as referred to as a male from the term "Father" the figure we see is either a Precursor or the Gardener (same visual as described by Saints dream of her). The reason why the Veil is behind the Witness and we see all the Precursors fall and turn to smoke is the Witness is showing Zavala its origins and asking him to join them. Vex are either a vision or to do with Echoes.
Are we sure that "Father" refers to the winnower? What if the woman we thought was the Gardener in Saint's dream was actually the Winnower, and the Gardener is actually the father mentioned? @@jonmkl i suggest you check out Venextron on youtube, his break down on the Winnower is unmatched and Byf did a decent on yesterday but Venextrons has way more proof. Winnower talks very casually especially towards Oyrx and referrers to the Gardner as a female, in Saints vision the figure tells Saint to not be like his "father" because all hes trying to do is kill and conqueror (sword logic). Also the voice we here in one of the trailers that says "take this power Guardian, be the light in dark places, WE are the light of hope" is an unknown female voice believed to be the Gardener. The figure we see in this trailer is most likely a Precursor as it resembles the figures we see behind Zavala. The scenes with Zavala are the Witness showing its origins. We see the Traveller leave the pyramid city and then we see the merging of the Precursors into smoke with the Veil in the background (just like we saw in the Season of the Deep cutscene)
@@fishnutz5196 But what does the female figure actually _say?_ “you’ll blind yourself with all that fire” or something like that. Sure it could be that she is chiding Saint for being warlike, but she doesn’t say that. She could just as easily be chiding him for losing. It’s only from context that you can try to glean what she meant. The winnower sees itself as the only truth, as correct, and as the winner. Maybe she was saying saint is too merciful, too kind?
@@jonmkl there are quotes from Mara at some point also stating that the Light is her mother and the Dark is her father also. What your saying could well be a thing but the chances are its not the case
Anyone else think it’s a LITTLE suspicious Aztecross keeps calling The Crow, Uldren??? Especially given my man got to play The Final Shape early??? INTERESTING.
I stopped the video at 8:31 right as Zavala is putting his forearm in and there’s an image of a character standing in the night with the moon behind them covered in this blue light. Very cool
At 10:53 when the whole city invading the traveler it got me Star Wars vibes when the galactic empire warp into the middle of the battle field with their whole armada
I think the veiled entities we see throughout the trailer are representations of the precursors, the main reason that makes me think so is because the first time we see it, Zavala is standing on what appears to be the precursors home world BEFORE the traveler left, and then we next see them standing behind Zavala before they fall over and turn into a mist or cloudlike appearance ALA The Witness's head.
The campaign is going to be a “mad dash” to stop the witness, ending with the raid as a hail mary. And world first team will be the cannon saviors of the galaxy. Calling it now
I think those cuts where it shows ikora with the vex, crow, with the scorn, and cayde with his body. I think its show they're past and most hurtful trauma's.
The Vex are simping for the witness is funny and also partially true. Not ALL Vex, just those of the Sol Divisive. (The ones that are in the Black Garden and have plants growing on them) The other vex see the Sol Divisive as an anomaly.
No one has mentioned this yet (that I have seen), but Earth "Finalizing" is very much a call back to the Black Garden; it's an identical look. Another reason we had to replay the final fight of the black garden mission last week, was bungie most likely reminding us. We're coming full circle Guardians.
6:50 I don’t what you mean this is one of the most haunting things I’ve seen in a video game without the context. If this was in a dark room it wouldn’t be scary but just out in the open. Signaling Zavala that is horrifying to me goosebumps
Maybe the combat with the vex that ikora does is a memory of a previous encounter, like what could have happened when the vex came thru portals into the city that one time?
I’m getting Forsaken vibes with Uldren being tempted with visions of his sister now with Zavala being tempted by (potentially) visions of his wife and past life.
I think in the Zavala scene, when he gets yoinked, like they're pulling him out and not him getting swallowed up. cause one of those hands looks like they have gloves
That shot of Earth being finalised is very reminiscent of what the vex do to planets. Remember the Vex are the final shape in every other reality. The final shape the Winnower always uses to win the flower game. If the Witness is the first knife, it makes sense that he would bring about the same shape the Vex do.
the witness is a bastard child of the winnower, it is not majestic to it's actual purpose, life must exist, and fall, and new life created and fall, perpetually.
I’ve been playing since destiny 1 about 10yrs transferred my character to destiny 2 will finish final shape. However I’ve showed multiple friends this trailer and they’ve said “dude is this a show” and then tell me how cool it is. Bungie should make a show for destiny.
You can tell our boy Cross knows some more stuff here. When he looks at the chat he is looking for reactions to something he has some additional info on but cant tell!
I can see a tv show happening with this animation. :) A post light and darkness story that follows the episodes… it’s like a new beginning but with many references to the entire franchise throughout.
I believe that the scene of all the statues falling down near Zavala insinuates all of his grief and pain falling away when he changes sides. He said he came to terms in season of the haunted, but I didn't believe him. I think there's still some part of him that clings to his wife and son still and it all just melts away when he becomes a deciple.
And Amanda. Amandas death probably broke the last bit of faith he had left in the traveler. His Lament after her death scene, can be seen as him begging the traveler to bring her back. I don’t think we heard much from him since that scene.
I remember a while ago a supposed 'leak' claiming The Final Shape story will be akin to the Dead Mans Tale quest with its tones of horror. Starting to seem true.

@@jonmkl although that possibility cant be completely ruled out. Just evidence shows that Gardner = Female characteristics and Winnower = Male
Zavala as a disciple and being a raid encounter would just be PEAK
ngl the beat drop here at 0:05 - 0:06 slaps
the music on this trailer....is just *chefs kiss
yeah its tr00n slop just like the dlc will be
You know it’s bad when Zavala, the guy with the stoic, unmoving face is screaming in terror
The best Destiny trailer ever made, hands-down (and that's not an easy feat, any Destiny fans will know). Goddamn that was PURE. HYPE.
The Final Shape is going to be a cinematic masterpiece. i will literally cry …
7:39 ~ just close your eyes and let Aztecross' words flow through you LUL
You missed the culmination of crows redemption arc at 1:50 in the actual trailer. My boys going shot for shot
Cross’ smile as soon as he recognised the Billie Eillish song, literally all of us!
I love how the darkness is all about consciousness and how the witness is playing with everyone's minds, dreams and wishes
Anyone else think it’s a LITTLE suspicious Aztecross keeps calling The Crow, Uldren??? Especially given my man got to play The Final Shape early??? INTERESTING.
You’re on to something there
I’m sure they played a little sample of it, not the entirely. Lol
I stopped the video at 8:31 right as Zavala is putting his forearm in and there’s an image of a character standing in the night with the moon behind them covered in this blue light. Very cool
Maybe the best trailer Bungie has ever made. I haven't been this hyped in a while
At 10:53 when the whole city invading the traveler it got me Star Wars vibes when the galactic empire warp into the middle of the battle field with their whole armada
Since when destiny became a horror game
Ask the hive
I'm all for it. I love all the wild stuff in this trailer
Not first time we’ve had this vibe just look up the presage mission and the missions from season of the haunted.
Yeah, the trailer for sure was a spectacle, I'm so glad cayde is back to see it to the end with us, added to my excitement for sure.
Aztecross: "Ikora doesn't die here, at least not yet" 👀👀👀 bruh
That crow-cayde back to back is legendary
Cross sittin here acting clueless when he knows damn well he completed the campaign a week before
When ikora throws the nova bomb it gave me chills
That looked like Ikora, Cayden, Crow, and the Guardian's hand pulling Zavala back out of the muck.
We need that Destiny animated series.
They never miss with the music and soundtracks and OST.
The black goo that he puts his hand in is like the stuff that takes your guardian over when you get super black shader.
The goopy wall reminds me of when you grab the all black shader for the first time mine shaxx captured some of the same stuff idk
That scene where the 6 random guardians spawn in could be the entrance to the raid. Would be dope. Looks like the gates of Mordor.
It's crazy how much darker of a tone the Final Shape seems to be taking on.
That trailer was amazing, you saying “IP defining Nova Bomb” at the end killed me tho 😂
The campaign is going to be a “mad dash” to stop the witness, ending with the raid as a hail mary. And world first team will be the cannon saviors of the galaxy. Calling it now
This has to be the greatest review/ breakdown ever
Got me rolling on the “icky icky” “5 knuckles deep”
I think those cuts where it shows ikora with the vex, crow, with the scorn, and cayde with his body. I think its show they're past and most hurtful trauma's.
The Vex are simping for the witness is funny and also partially true. Not ALL Vex, just those of the Sol Divisive. (The ones that are in the Black Garden and have plants growing on them) The other vex see the Sol Divisive as an anomaly.
It’s like the S.D are religious and the rest of the Vex are atheists
Thank you!!! The parellel to the Finalizing and the Black Garden is being thrown in our faces. I love it! Coming full Circle!
At 1:32
Imagine Zavala had responded with a stern: *No..* before charging up some serious arc power much like a saiyan would.
Oh mah god.
No one has mentioned this yet (that I have seen), but Earth "Finalizing" is very much a call back to the Black Garden; it's an identical look. Another reason we had to replay the final fight of the black garden mission last week, was bungie most likely reminding us.
We're coming full circle Guardians.
Imagine the final raid being a PVP and PVE, half way through you chose your side
The scene where the gaurdians drop one by one on the battlefield got me so hyped
I've got goosebumps and my emotions are going crazy!
6:50 I don’t what you mean this is one of the most haunting things I’ve seen in a video game without the context. If this was in a dark room it wouldn’t be scary but just out in the open. Signaling Zavala that is horrifying to me goosebumps
The opening guardian looks to be the same guardian that transmats after that fleet shot.
That ikora healing scene was HARD!
When Zavala puts his hand in the wall it’s two different hands between the scenes
Maybe the combat with the vex that ikora does is a memory of a previous encounter, like what could have happened when the vex came thru portals into the city that one time?
I think the witness is showing each one of them a vision they must escape individually to get to him/somewhere further in the traveler
I've never gotten so much hype from a Destiny trailer, holy
I’m getting Forsaken vibes with Uldren being tempted with visions of his sister now with Zavala being tempted by (potentially) visions of his wife and past life.
Cross immediately backing up Zavala for selling his soul to the devil is peak d2 player
A post light and darkness story that follows the episodes… it’s like a new beginning but with many references to the entire franchise throughout.
imagine how crazy it would be if Zavala gets turned into a raid boss
I believe that the scene of all the statues falling down near Zavala insinuates all of his grief and pain falling away when he changes sides. He said he came to terms in season of the haunted, but I didn't believe him. I think there's still some part of him that clings to his wife and son still and it all just melts away when he becomes a deciple.
And Amanda. Amandas death probably broke the last bit of faith he had left in the traveler. His Lament after her death scene, can be seen as him begging the traveler to bring her back. I don’t think we heard much from him since that scene.
@da_funkknight very true. He's been through a lot and The Witness is using all of it against him.
I remember a while ago a supposed 'leak' claiming The Final Shape story will be akin to the Dead Mans Tale quest with its tones of horror. Starting to seem true.
