Destiny 2 Lore - Final Shape Launch Trailer, my reaction & analysis (WILD SPOILERS)

- Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Final Shape launch trailer is absolutely wild. It shows off a look at the power of the Witness unleashed upon the universe. We might lose the Last City and Earth to the Final Shape. Ikora and Zavala look in genuine peril & we might get a look at the mythical veiled figure from the statues all over the Witness' pyramid ships. Is this the Gardener or Winnower? We'll have to find out.

4:23 ‘We’re finalised’ was not the F-word I was expecting there…
I think “finalized” hits harder 😂
Its been shaped
Yo wait, you play Destiny? Did not expect to see you here lol. Love your work!
Fr
@@spyman1567 Why not ? Everything that's SCP and Destiny is Space Magic stuff, so... Makes sense in the end (of everything) ^^
15:55 lol same here! “All my friends show up in spaceships” is my favorite trope of all time and I love seeing it with the context that these were once all considered mortal enemies of humanity
The second I saw the lady in the black veil holding that shard I was like "OH MAN Byf is gonna have a field day with this..."
Instantly looked for byf video
@@jonathanreed4101 Yes you did ! We're far from alone :D And that's the best part actually ! More credit to our Lore Masters, who've been digging all this shit for all these years ! True Legends !
Literally my exact reaction, i thought Byf is gonna FREAKK
It’s the same lady from the Veiled Statues. In my opinion, the only characters it can be are the Gardener or Winnower. I’m leaning more towards the Gardener because it allows Bungie to continue the story by directing us towards the Winnower. The Winnower makes more sense due to the fact that the Veiled Statue is a figure of worship for the Darkness. Wouldn’t make a lot of sense for the Darkness to worship the Gardener/Pale Lady. Though I can see Bungie finding a way to make it work, albeit at the cost of a retcon or two.
@@alter6243it could be the Gardener but the implications of this trailer also lean towards it being the Penitent of the Witness's species, they even wore the same cloaks when it was the Precursors, just without the eyes being covered. There's also a bunch of them when the Witness talks to Zavala & one of them act as a mouthpiece for the Witness, & we know the Witness uses the statues for various means
Cayde is 100% looking at his own body from the "Uldren Sov is mine" Forsaken cutscene, the exposed hand has his glove on
I like Cayde's little subversion of the "guardians make their own fate" line.
"Nobody makes my fate but me" goes kinda hard
No fate what we make for ourselves.
We've watched while the stars burned out, and creation played out in reverse.
The universe freezing in half light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end the end a master. Step out of the path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help remember one enigma. A hybrid, elusive destroyer. This is the only mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.
Even S'Bhuth is no more.
He saved his entire race. But in the end, frozen by despair, he joined the chaos he sought to evade.
But you were dead a thousand times. Hopeless encounters successfully won. A man long dead, grafted to machines your builders did not understand. You follow the path, fitting into an infinite pattern.
Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.
I know who you are.
You are Destiny.
16:32 the OG Warlock outfit! When I saw this warlock years ago, this was the image that brought me into Destiny, made me a Warlock main, and I built this costume. I learned how to use fiberglass resin to literally build that helmet out of clay, mold it out of plaster of Paris, and then resin that helmet for Cosplay!!!!! So sick seeing it back!!!!
Orange thing on Zavala's sleeve is amanda's orange bandana neckerchief thing she used to wear
Except her bandanna is red?
@@ToaDrakua It's also being lit by the portal of the Traveler, he's had Amanda's bandana on his shoulder since she passed
Probably make him get tempted to get her revived via the witness in return for his loyalty
Probably isn’t the real one, fiery explosion and all.
Well Amanda was like a daughter. To him. ,,,,
With the 1-2 frame shot of the "Prismatic" astronaut being placed in a Cayde moment in the trailer, do we think that could mean that Cayde was originally Jacob Hardy of the Ares-1 mission? We've already gotten confirmation an Exo's name can be changed in its firmware during a reboot, a la Clovis into Banshee. I think it would be kind of cool that Cayde would turn out to be one of the first humans to lay eyes on the
Traveler. That could be part of the explanation of why Cayde was seemingly the only one to come back inside of the Traveler
This is definitely what I'm hoping for
Neat theory, but back in the Taken King collectors edition it describes Cayde as being sort of on his last straw and volunteering for Clovis’ Exo program during the Golden Age. I doubt they’d retcon that for him being Jacob Hardy, BUT it would be interesting to see (and actually I guess you could still make it work narratively)
@@deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee6925 oh i didn't know that. I knew that Cayde at some point was Maya Sundaresh's bodyguard, but i didn't know that there was pre-EXO cayde lore

This is going to be my entire day when it comes out tbh
I think the veiled figure is just one of the pre-cursors who became the witness, hence all of them being sacrificed behind Zavala, and the witness head smoke rising as they do.
You were right on the money with this one! 💰
The Witness really stole Lord Businesses plan from The Lego Movie.
The traveler was really the kragle the entire time
Now that’s not tru-Omg, that’s exactly what’s happening.
And his style too
They do not need topper boots to appear tall. B)
@@Archon3960 No, the witness just needed to do a sewerslide pact to get tall (I can't type the actual word youtube deletes the comment 💀)
I also wanna point out something awesome about Cayde’s “Nobody makes my fate but me” quote being eerily similar to “Guardians make their own fate” from way back in the vault of glass… and dude that’s so fucking cool
Rest in Peace, Lance Reddick. I've been a Titan since D1, you'll always be my Commander, but Keith David sounds great as Zavala. I'm sure he'll do Lance proud in the role.
Rise Up, Guardians. It's time.
Agreed Keith David sounds excellent as zavala it’s just sad that lance couldn’t be a part of this given that he to was a big fan of destiny

I still can't believe he's gone. It's so sad going into this final chapter knowing he's not there.
Byf, the second scene you pause on with Zavala, might be worth considering this is the Witness showing Zavala the traveler leaving the precursor (Witness') planet. You can see a pyramid in the background and part of a city.
The way Byf says "We're Finalized" like "We're F***-ed" had me rolling 😂
More like assimilated .
Dude is lost in the sauce.
The traveller leaving infront of Zavala, I think it symbolises zavalas fall to darkness, you can see the outline of the pyramid ship behind it so that says to me “the light (traveller) leaving zavalas sight to show what he think might be the new best path, the darkness (the pyramid)”
Bungie truely knows how to make trailers.
Also wild to me that we went from the ZERO stakes in Lightfall to the "Oh my god the world is ending we are all going to die, everyone I ever knew is dead" stakes. Holy moly
Lightfall truly felt like the part of the movie where the audience can tell everything is starting to go wrong but the titular character is so high on themselves that they think everything will work out in the end. It was light hearted with some comedy splashed in between. Cool, vibrant, fun setting and our Guardian is running around with Nimbus crushing Shadow Legion and being all giddy. Then we realize we can lose and are losing.
As much as I’ve spent the last year loathing lighfall’s story as unserious filler, in retrospect we needed the time to build stakes (though it still could’ve been done so much better).
I don’t think they could have gone from beyond light, which was pretty low stakes and really just an introduction to darkness, to witch queen, straight to this.
You can kinda see the seams where Lightfall was cut in half. Lightfall was Act 1. TFS is Act 2 and 3. If somehow they could have put the work that went into both but kept it a coherent story... Yea, Lightfall would have meant Lightfall.
@steelgriffin7716 basically Lightfall was Infinity War and The Final Shape will be Endgame. Then the episodes will be the first few attempts at the Disney + shows 😂.
The marketing team has always been the best part of Bungie. They managed to get us hyped on LIGHTFALL. That is a genuine feat of marketting.
In the shot before we see the robed figure with the shard you see a reflection on Zavalas face in the same shape as the shard, you then see a glint of light on the shard, with the dialogue “you said you spoke to them” so it’s definitely a dream or an interaction inside the traveller maybe an extension of the witness trying to entice him into the darkness
Zavala had Holliday's bandana wrapped around his arm. She lost her parents travelling to the city and he ended up an on-and-off parental guardian. That's why her death hit him so hard. He watched her grow up.
A lot of people don’t seem to realize that in some cutscenes and loading screens you can actually see Amanda as a child standing with Zavala and you can see Zavala treating her like a daughter.
@@jassom1270 There's a lore tab (not sure which item) that details a parent teacher confrence with Zavala where Holliday gets in trouble at school. He gives her some wisdom that guides her to engineering and piloting. He literally put her on the path that decided her life.
@@qtheron7393 I remember being told there’s a lore tab or multiple about Zavala being a a father figure and the gaurdians in general acting like her family with people such as Zavala playing the role of her dad and Cayde playing the role of cool uncle or brother
In the lore about the original astronauts that went to commune with the traveler there was a fourth or previous third that died before ever getting to mars. It’s a stretch but it reminded me of that dead astronaut.
I like how Cayde and Crow are fighting Scorn in the video, really brings them full-circle.
the veil lady holding that mirror reminds me of D1 Xur dialogue:
"Your traveler has a dark mirror
There is life on the OTHER SIDE of the mirror
It is a bad smelling place"
Zavala looking at Amanda's bandana before flying through the portal hit me man
"One last step, together... Into the end."
One thing you forgot to point out was the Scorn Abomination shown in the trailer. It has the same armor as Fikrul, which means more than likely that Fikrul is being turned into that abomination, either by the Witness or something else entirely.
The witness is going to need a light-bearer for the final shape, which is why it is trying to get Zavala to assimilate. He will which is when the final shape will start taking place.
“We are in need of a god killer.”
It needs the light, and the Traveler won’t give it to them, and it can’t take it.
I’m scared to see the Guardian have to kill Zavala if it goes down that way… after them reaching for their Ghost in Lightfall idk if they have the heart to do it… I’m not sure if anyone does.
@@Dorian_Kellum Oh Ghaul can take it but the witness can't? I disagree, it needs Zavala for another purpose or simply wants to weaken our side by taking key figures out of the equation.
A comment on the trailer itself highlighted this pretty well - in all of Elsie's other futures, Zavala was the one who never broke. In this one, he'll be the one to break.

The shot with all the ships of all the different races is by far my favorite shot of the trailer
"Finalized" is legit horrifying when taken alongside the decade of context it stands upon. No other word will do.
It curious people keep bringing up visions and the connection that it has to the music in the trailer. Billie literally sings “I had a dream, it might’ve been a nightmare” during some of those vision sequences and it literally sends chills up my spin every time I watch it back.
Seeing the winnower finally was breathtaking reminded me of seeing voldemort or something. So spooky
I don't beleive that's the winnower just a veil that has been teased since d 1
Cayde experienced one before I beleive and it drained the light from guardians just on proximity
wasn't the winnower
We don’t know if it is the winnower. It could just be members of the precursor race in a shroud, or possibly a not-yet-revealed dread faction unit. We are shown multiple shrouded figures so I don’t think it is the winnower.
@captainrelyk more than likely a race that the pyramideons worshipped considering there obsession with the statue of the veiled person
3:33 perhaps it’s just dust falling off the Traveler? Occam’s Razor…. Simplest answer is often the right answer.
Have you played a Fromsoft game?
I'm personally hoping that The Final Shape campaign does not let us stop once we start it. If Earth is being Finalized, I want it to actually happen and only be undone once we beat the campaign. That would be wild and would have huge ramifications going forward.
Same.
Similar to Warframe’s New War quest. Once you start it, you are locked out of *all* activities until you beat the campaign.
Edit: Putting concerns to rest. That *does not* happen in the campaign, though it’s meant to be completed in one sitting.
@@shrummajor114 I hope Bungo does a better job with the idea than DE did.
I hope the damage to earth can't be reversed. It's time the story actually has stakes that can't be undone by "space magic ex-machina". Monumental events like Caydes death, the traveler being hijacked (by the Cabal AND Savathun), Osiris' death, etc. needs to have some sort of point of no return in order to actually move the narrative forward. Everything that seemed to have stakes has always been undone and it just cheapens the entire narrative because of it.
@@ThePowerOfOneThePowerOfTwo I hope for at least a Partial reversal. A lot of the damage is done, some is back, some places are livable again like the Last City, EDZ and so on... but the scars are still there. A Structure or two cubed and split, sections Missing, etc etc but overall kinda back. I can't imagine they'd leave Finalized People just... around though. Give a similar, but probably worse pall to things that the absence of the Traveler above the Last City gave. We're healing, but the scars are still there any may be Forever. As for Cayde... I'm okay with the idea that he can't leave the Pale Heart. He's back... sorta, but he can never come Home. Kinda just be for the Pale Heart what Toland is in the Ascendant Plane.
I will definitely be hitting the thank button on that new video. Not only did your first history of video get me back into destiny after a long gap but that witch queen video was really something else and elevated the experience for me. Been waiting for this one
I have never been more hyped for an expansion, like this is literally the gold standard of trailers. This is literally the theme we should've had throughout destiny's entire cycle,.
If it’s as good as it looks, I’ll be coming back after almost two years. The trailer looks incredible. I did log on a few weeks ago because I forgot what my Guardian looks like, and I’m more rusty than the Titanic. Hopefully it’s reasonably priced, as money is really tight right now.
I’m feeling hype that I haven’t felt for any game in years. I dare say I have a good feeling about this.
@@GetDougDimmadomed Maybe just buy it on sale in a few months. Remember, people where hyped through the roof for Lightfall and it turned to be out the worst DLC in the franchise.

I don't do a lot of comments or social media for that fact, but I have followed and listened to you for quite some time. I want to thank you. I am really really looking forward to your release at the end of the month. It will bring to me a full circle for my own journey of Destiny. I have immersed myself with my character and the lore since the beginning (with your help of course) and I am terrified and excited for the Final Shape.
btw the shot of zavala in front of the pyramid ship looks like a direct continuation of the shot of the traveler leaving him earlier on in the trailer
I was thinking the same thing
The snippet of crow and Cayde shooting their hand cannons in beat with the song is so good
Btw the eliksni with the guitar was playing the initial notes of destiny's theme. A nice little detail
That Guitar Eliksni is gonna end up riding on the top of our ship into battle like our very own version of the Doof Warrior from Mad Max Fury Road. Playing sweet ass guitar riffs as we charge into battle. 😆 🤙🏼
@@dionstewart7394That’d be cool.
Discussion about Vex in the final few frames - could be that if Ikora is trying to help evacuate the Last City, and Vex are making a timely assault in the chaos. The shot of Earth getting transformed early is also reminiscent of the Vex transforming a world into one of their machine worlds.
I think the Veiled Statues/cloaked figures represent the Penitent of the Witness's species, since we see many of them when the Witness speaks to Zavala, & one of them act as a mouthpiece for the Witness (they even turn to smoke, like the Witness being a smokey figure), if you watch Lightfalls opening cutscene u can hear the Witness emmanate the same whispers we hear from the statues (which could be the Precursors native language) it's holding what seems to be a glass shard at Zavala & we know the Witness has a theme of shattering glass. Also 10:37 Ahsa did say the Precursors "merged themselves into the salvation they craved" & a Winnower is what they craved
They even have the same style of robes from the ahsa cutscene just without the eye viewport.
@@Deltadog55yup

Interesting yeah.
I think the singular veiled being with the broken shard has a deeper meaning.
Think of what "the First Knife" would actually be. Any species that learns to use tools would not first use a well crafted knife with golden hilt and engraved wooden handle. The "first knife" would be a shard of broken rock, like the veiled figure was holding.

this is the closest bungie have come to executing the vision we all had for the franchise, 11 years down the road, worth the wait imo

@@princephillip1481yea now that I think about it I’m kinda glad they went for the infinity war and end game type of approach where we lose then wait then do the final battle because before I think it was all going to be in one and I just know that would’ve felt rushed asf
@thatsprettygood9613 Right..with absolutely no evidence that "Final Shape" will be complete ass(Gamers today 🙄 Some) but, there's a lot of evidence that this expansion will be EPIC!! COPE 🫡
It's nice to see other guardians actually doing something and civilians feeling the consequences of our failure. The stakes are actually felt with this trailer. I love seeing the world interact with each other.
"Eyes up, Guardian. This is it. This is what we were beought together for. Whatever happens next, It's been an honor being your Ghost."

Our Ghost's final thought: one final "Why are you like this?"
I really love that Ikora (who for a long time was the least developed character in personality and story, especially D1) has been written into this role of ultimate badass but vulnerable powerhouse. She has kind of a Marvel Storm aura, she's wise, incredibly powerful, ageless, an unstoppable anger under a strong will, but she remains humane and relatable. When she's here, you know shit's about to go two ways: first she's gonna show her mettle and destroy something big way, then she's gonna have this private emotional turmoil that makes her very touching.
I just love her, idk

I don't know what's more mind boggling, the 9 hour lore video before The Final Shape, or the prospect of a 10-12 hour one before Destiny 3.
Seeing Cayde and Crow fighting back to back for that short frame was pretty cool.
The Alliance Fleet is the big money shot of the trailer for me. Humanity hasn't fielded an army like this since the Great Disaster- ironically, in its first encounter with the first great enemy we fought in D1. They simply haven't been able to. And what I desperately, DESPERATELY want to see is that army supplemented by the forces of the Lucent Brood. I do genuinely think Savathun will send some help out way at some point.
Yeah I'm thinking that scene follows up after ikoras and the guardians plus Caital, Mithrax, and Savathun maybe mara too transmat in and help Evac ikora crow and the the others
That was for sure the best part of the lightfall campaign when you hold the line alongside caitl's legions against her father. Hoping for more of that next week
Savathun was shown along with Caital and Mithraks so i have hope she will be by our side. Only thing im unsure about is we are fighting Lucent Hive at points too which makes me think she might be a 3rd party doing her own thing

as far as I know bungie said somewhere that once you start the final shape you cannot get out of it untill the end. so maybe earth is F-ed and in the end we make it good again?
I thought those looked like visions. Trailers always put these scenes out of order, so I thought they may have been some prophetic dream ikora has of what the final shape might actually look like. @@iponce2Or opening after the final shape is stopped
Where did they say this?
I cried watching this trailer.. this is the most bone chilling moment I've ever seen as a destiny player. I feel like this trailer is the bowtie on the gift of the final shape releasing.
I assumed the veiled woman was the representation of the Winnower, complete with "first knife," which is not itself a knife crafted for violence but the natural result of conflict and breaking.
This right here! My thought as well. It has to be the first "knife"
But here’s the thing, that nobody is acknowledging, the figures that are around Zavala when the Witness says “join us” are *also* veiled figures. Every single one of them, you can even see that it’s veils that are convering them with the shot of one right behind Zavalas head. So the veiled figure is not being shown as a singular entity. I doubt the Winnower theory bc of this.
I think, the veiled woman is not a representation of the winnower. The sequence where all those veiled people fall, Zavala right in between, might be the witness showing us how it was created and how the mass suicide of its precursors took place.
After all, we have never been given a detailed image of what the precursors actually look like. Even I Ahsa‘s Cutscene, where we were shown how the witness was created, we were given mere sketches of their appearance. Although, always depicted with long robes, veiled faces and a human-ish body form (hat, hands, neck… knees and toes, knees and toes).
Furthermore the entelechy collectors lore book showed us a conversation between two representatives of the different „political parties“ of the precursors civilization, which left a question unanswered if all precursors were actually butchered or if a few survived in the pale heart of the traveler.
Hence my assumption: the veiled woman might actually be one of the precursors itself
I haven’t played in quite some time but I gasped as well when Ikora got shot. And also hearing her beg Zavala to ‘not do this’ (if that was exactly it I have terrible memory) sounds like it’s ‘post-Zavala has been turned’ and he may be a situation we’re going to have to face
I think its the gardener. It seems like its trying to distract zavala with the glare from the shard, almost like a shard from the traveler. In the cutscene where the witness is speaking to him maybe the gardener is trying to whisper for zavala to not listen to him, creating multiple visages of itself to gain his attention, but the witness's actions in the pale heart has made the gardener weaker since its arrival, and its influence over Zavala is too strong in which the gardener is overpowered, causing the multiple copies to fall over dead in defeat, resulting in Zavala succumbing to the Witnesses temptations. I think the gardener looking so creepy and unsettling is a red herring of sorts. But that's just a theory. a game theory.
This was what i was thinking. It took me a couple of rewatches but the suffering overlay sounds different to the rest of the speech, its emphasised for a purpose. It could be a rhetoric tool to convince him, or the Witness could be emphasising just to overpower the Gardener. Then, when the whisper fails, they all fall to dust.
The symbolism of it is very cool. The duality of an unassuming monster trying to tempt you, while your friend, unable to show any form but this, has to use subtlety and whispers to help, but to no avail.
Theres also the fact that it is the Light of the shard that draws Zavala's attention, so there could be symbolism there
My thoughts exactly
Mattpat, you take your theories and get the hell out of here right now!🤣
this is what I'm leaning towards. the witness is obsessed with this veiled figure, that's why it makes statues in her image in every pyramid, it wants the one thing it can't have. but since we're in the pale heart and the traveler is in trouble and trying to reach us despite the witness's interference, she sends these indirect messages but can't quite speak or show her face.
9 Hour Video? A great excuse for me to go get movie theater popcorn and nachos and have an all day event for myself.
It's pretty clearly a vision. Those final shape scenes on earth are going to transition into Mara's hand where she is having a vision of the future. I don't know that as fact because I haven't seen it, but it makes the most thematic sense to me.
I thought it might be Ikora having prophetic dreams, but Mara makes a lot of sense too actually.
This whole expansion actually terrifies me lol. That genuine “if we fail, everyone dies” feeling. Not even a feeling, an honest stake.
Also I pray that 9 hour vid goes spectacularly, Byf, you’re keeping the vast majority of your lore babies fed and rightfully bearing your title of Lore Daddy.
That moment, where all the ships show up and the Guardians descend into the fight, a phrase came back to my mind. Don't know if it's from a movie, a series, another game, but it really fits here.
"All of us, against all of you.", as in, community vs a collective entity, the final battle for the fate of everything.
Probably Ultron: “This is exactly what I wanted, all of you against all of me.”

I think the veiled figure is exactly how saint describes. A motherly figure, potentially trying to get Zavala to snap out of the visions from the witness. Hence shining the reflection in his eyes with the glass. Or vice versa, it's part of the witness/darkness and it's distracting him from a vision the traveler is trying to show him.
The arm is peeking out of that funeral shroud that Cayde is looking at. Those gauntlets look just like the ones he's wearing. There's also a bit of a point at the top that's probably his beautiful horn.
I could sea that. Him coming to terms with his own death. There's no guarantee he can come back with us when it's all over.
it could also be andal cause they wear almost the same armor
i love how you can tell there is no script, just based that your tone goes up and down completely following emotion and unrehearsed, i love it!
In regards to the earth basically being destroyed, the Traveller has been referred to as a terraformer a bunch so if at the end we need to repair earth or smth, then I imagine that's how we would go about it
I’m going to be stuck at work for 9 1/2 hours Today. You’re saving me from brain death with the 10 hour lore video ❤
The section that starts ~6:27 is indeed the first mission as you enter the traveler. Confirmed from outlet previews. Basically, your memories are being added to the inside of the traveler as you enter it, and they're first taking shape here.
One thing I will say, I know this is wild af but ah well, the music might hint to a lot the major characters go through dream like situations. Zavala with his wife, Ikora with defending something from the vex as she was taught by Osiris, Crow potentially having a dream of returning to darkness, Cayde having a dream of seeing his own grave. In my opinion it all adds up
I was over here like "well holy hell"
I haven't been this excited for a video game release in ages. Really looking forward to next Tuesday.
One thing I found really interesting was that in the big invasion scene with all of the coalition ships 15:59 one was visibly missing, that being any of the awoken vessels which may just be an oversight but they are in the tower floating with the cabal and fallen vessels so I’m wondering if something crazy happens to the awoken during the final shape
it could be reasonable for the awoken to stay and protect the city
@@cerealkiller1024 much like how Saint's and Osiris's conversation after the veiled mission last week was about staying behind to be the Vanguard while Zavala and Kora are away
the shot with zavala infront of the traveler with a pyramid in the background is almost certainly a vision how he left the precursers, the witness shows him this to convince him his god will leave him too...
3:22 I think this is a vision of the Traveler leaving the Witness’ homeworld (perhaps the Witness showing Zavala the Traveler actually abandoning a race to make him question everything further)
It’s shell is undamaged (so it’s before the Collapse), and there’s Pyramid architecture littering the area in the background. The smoke coming off its shell may be dirt from when the Traveler was buried.
There's also another shot of Zavala looking out on the same Pyramid city from the Ahsa cutscene.
7:58 and 9:05 all seem to be part of the same cutscene. 3:22 the traveler leaves, 7:58 zavala looks out over the city in the aftermath, 9:05 he looks away and sees the veiled figure
The funny thing about that if its the case, zavala probably already knows the traveler has a history of this both from the eliksni and the books of sorrow, plus hes already dealt with the knowledge the traveler gave savathun and her brood the light
@@digidueler but that’s different than actually seeing it with your own two eyes. the traveler leaves the precursors willingly, it wasn’t forced like when savathun did it.
@@vlvtmnky1142 The Traveler left the precursors because they were trying to do this to it. This is literally the whole reason it's been running for so very long, it doesn't want its heart torn out and used to freeze the universe in endless stasis.
Remember when we first tried to send a guardian through the portal and they experienced a bunch of their past before getting glassed? I think what we are seeing is our past experiences. The cosmodrome ships, the EDZ, the scarlet keep on the moon, perhaps the distant structures are from the dreaming city. We are seeing our entire existance leading up to this moment.
This expansion better be a movie, these cutscenes need to have legs and impact.
That first scene in the Last City is actually haunting, like a modern sci-fi Pompeii
Zavala is more likely to be 'gone' than Ikora Rey, but if TWO characters are to die, it highlights the stakes involved.
The "Beginning level" purple shot with the Exodus stuff, and the church from the EDZ, etc... Byf, you JUST talked about the vision from D1 about the ships fleeing earth dragging bits of the old city. And right after we see the Earth being shaped.
Me: sees witness darkness body horror in trailer
Also me: patiently waits for Byf to unpack it all
The "inside the portal" section, with the way the colony ship is split in the center immediately gives me "Distributary Creation" vibes
15:18 if Ikora falls from the Vex shot, she needs a new armor set 😅
So glad I wasn’t the only one gushing over the cavalry coming in en masse
From the context of.all the veiled figures around zavala and the witness saying 'join us', my current assumption is that these are percussors of the penitent sect who would eventually go on to form the witness. The whole dark clothing and veiled faces feels very 'penitent' somehow, and they way the all fall down and start merging as smoke really makes me.think of them merging to form the witness. Plus it implies the statues may have been created by the penitent before their merger and left on their ships as a kind of self aggrandisement.
But why they all the same gender I know it may sound stupid but it really could be anyone cos of the fact it’s a vision
@@Grassdia probably for the same reason they started using 2D cutscenes instead of fully animated ones, cost cutting and money saving. Plus they're an alien race, for all we know all precursors have chest bulges wether male or female or whatever genders exist in their species. But either way it's just a theory and yes until the game release it could be right or wrong at this point.
15:56 - YES!!! The emotion is one all of our inner child can agree, high five, cry, and scream with joy for!!! The ME3 moment worth returning to Destiny for!
I know this sounds crazy but I think it would be really cool if we fight a guardian that has been corrupted by the witness in the final shape raid. Like how the witness is trying to corrupt zavala in the trailer.
The red cloth on Zavala's shoulder is Amanda Holiday's bandana. After she died in Season of Defiance, Zavala removed the original white cloth on his shoulder from his shoulder and replaced it with Amanda's bandana.
"the history of destiny video coming out... yeah, its over 9 hours"
I literally spit my drink out and said "HOLY SHIT"
Startled my wife with my involuntary reaction of "Jesus Christ!"
byf continually warning us for spoilers gives me life XD
also as a creator of comics I look forward to that 9 year video so much. I adore listening to lore stuff while working. Huge kudos to the whole team for bringing us all the good stuff.
It’s interesting that the veiled woman got Zavala’s attention by shining LIGHT onto his face and towards the end of the trailer Zavala losses the light effects on his face.
Yeah after the scenes switching of him holding a hand (or going to) to getting suck into the wall and Ikora saying the witness makes you see what he wants you to see… could it be that it was trying to “distract” Zavala?.. then all the veiled statues fall and Ikora says “Zavala dont do this”.. maybe I’m reading to much into it, but it kinda looks like we loose Zavala and the veiled statue is not on the side of the Witness
I might have figured out who the mystery voice is...
I have been following since it's cold origins, through to the friendly flock and how 10 became part of 6.
In the past it has been spoken for, but now it may actually speak to them.
THROUGH them.
An entry in a signature book, a new helm, and a disembodied voice... It all fits.
There are more roles yet to be filled from the Tower. Not just a missing Vanguard.
Are we getting an entire lore video dedicated to the guitar Dreg? Final raid boss, perhaps?
Guitar Dreg is the one to kill the Witness. He will bash the Witnesses skull in with his guitar before playing big iron
Greg the Dreg

Bungie did say when the campaign hits that we'll pretty much be forced into doing the campaign. So Cosmodrome and EDZ, yeah they're probably locked out until we un-Final Earth.
4:12 You missed the Pyramid ship in the background Byf, that's probably a vision of the past, when the traveler left the precursor planet
This
Skybox looks like 8:10 too
Byf: "The Earth is a cube"
*cuts to ad*
Pillow Cube!
When I heard you say the complete story video would be 9 hours I cheered out loud. Very excited.
Dude, im a truck driver, 9 hours straight of lore is a godsend
