    Seat height absolutely matters. I'm 5'6" and ride a sumo. It's actually a converted 4 stroke GPX similar to what Megs Braap has in that picture. I can get the balls of my feet down so I can manage it in stop and go and slow speed traffic, where you'll be putting your feet down often, but someone shorter is going to have a much harder time.

    It has nothing to do with fear of riding a Super Moto. Being able to get both feet, at least toes, on the ground is important. Yes, you can just one leg it, but that gets old fast in traffic. A lowering link is a very viable option for some. Lower the forks too though.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  Месяц назад

      Why would one leg at stops get old? It's not a big deal, go check out Saaraazh, she is like 5'4 and rides supermotos and dirt bikes like a boss, does amazing stunts. You don't need both feet on the ground, most of the time I keep one foot on the peg and the other on the ground at stops even though and can flat foot both feet.

      @@CycleCruza Notice Rick, many of us who are criticizing you on this issue are rather experienced riders. The examples you use are odd exceptions, and believe me (and rvaillant here), lowering seats, suspension, or both, makes a bike MUCH safer to ride for us under 6' tall. It's not just a "fear" issue.

    • @rvaillant
      @rvaillant Месяц назад +2

      @@CycleCruza I rode my GASGAS EC300 2 stroke bomb legally on the streets. It had no battery, kick start. Stalling it at a light and then trying to kick start it with only one foot, toes, touching the ground isn't fun. The ground is not alway even either. It's not a fun experience. Again, it's not a fear of riding a super Moto, it's the hassle of ridiculous seat height.

    CycleCruza, you need to get a motorcycle where you have to put one foot down to really have something to say about it. I'm 5'4 and have had 3 motorcycles where I had to put one foot down and I got use to it, but it gets tiring after a while as you have to be mindful to keep your balance when coming to a stop and to determine which foot to place down when the road is sloped or have a divot in the road where you may not want to put your foot down. Whereas, if you could place both feet down at a stop it's easier to keep the bike up and secure without having to think about it much. I laid my bike down twice coming to stop or driving slowly as once the bike is leaning to far, there is no going back as the bike is too heavy to keep it up. Also, you can't really compare a bicycle to a heavier motorcycle. I'm now cruising on a cruiser and I like it! Keepin both feet down.

      @@yourdoseofrandomvalorantcl8038anything is possible, but just be aware the supermoto seat heights are probably 34 inches and up. I felt comfortable with seat heights around 31 inches for the 1 foot down method, anything above that I would not do. Guess, you have to sit on one and see if it is possible and feel the weight of the bike. I've seen videos where girls put the kick stand down as they come to a stop and lean the bike on the kick stand to hold it up.

    I can't flat-foot my 425 lb XSR900 and it's ok. Not on tippy toes, but definitely can't flat foot. My inseam isn't too bad though, about 32". But that's a measurement, not my jeans size. Jeans size is 30". But I've had close calls on uneven ground when the patch of ground you put your foot down on is slippery and/or marbles and gravel. Then it took a lot of upper body strength to catch the bike because ground isn't predictable at all. But I challenge you to put a temporary 5 or 6 inch seat riser on your bike and go ride in traffic and uneven ground. Strap a rolled up towel or chunk of hard foam on there and get seat height to about 40 inches and go ride your bike. That's what it's like for someone really short trying to ride a tall bike. You being about 6 ft tall or whatever, it's easy to talk. Talk is cheap, go do it! LOL ✌

    I’m a dual sport guy, a short one at that. And Even though I can ride an XR650l, I had to settle on a shorter bike. The 650l is just way too tall for me. I can’t just leave one foot on a peg to flat foot the other one. The bike is so tall, and I’m so short, that my foot comes off the peg, and my butt cheek hangs down one side, with my other leg sticking straight out the other side like I’m signaling to turn right, and I look like a monkey hanging off the side of that bike at the red light! Lol... Like I said, I’m not scared to ride anything. Some bikes just aren’t comfortable due to seat height.

    I have the 690 Enduro R which is abit higher than the SMC and I'm 5.7 inches, I use only one leg (more like tippy toes).. To be honest it's abit sucks in city traffic but it makes you a better rider because the lack of the ability to use both of your legs. Like a blind person who has better hearing sence. It's all about how much you love and want this motorcycle!

    1 foot down is the easiest tip for a shorter rider to learn and it opens up every kinda 🏍 to you. Teaching my gf how to ride, it was the 1st thing I taught her as she's barely 5'4" and she was self conscious about every bike she sat on at the dealership.

  • @brad_Ca

    People always seem to get stuck on the height issue but in reality, they should focus more on the inseam. I've seen shorter people who have longer legs than I do. It is a rider's legs that has to deal with the reality of the seat height.

    Same reason for most things in motorcycles: PEOPLE ARE LAZY AND DON'T WANT TO PUT OUT THE EFFORT. Just pay dollars and solve everything instead.

I've tried all different size gloves to no avail. Just not sure if this is common and I need to get use to it or if I'm just a gimp lol. True, but I want to be able to put 1 point of contact down. I dont want to pull any tricks of getting off bike or sliding way off seat everytime stop. More importantly need to get enough of foot leg down to push off kickstand. I could not when tried sitting on an ibex 800. Did not try teal hard in between bikes. But that is an issue when tank full. Again i know I could put one foot on and swing over other as driving away. Not trying to do all the tricks.

    I don't have problems with flat footing my bike since I am tall enough to do it. When I do have money I will not be getting a super moto. I will be getting a Honda cb1000r, or a MT09, or 10. With my luck I will probably getting a Honda. It don't really matter since I just want a bump in the engine not just for speed but to carry my big body around the streets and not on the dirt road which I plan not going on since I'm to old to be playing in the dirt. I just want a nice naked sport bike and those are the two that I have chosen as my future bike.

    Cycle Cruza. I generally love your videos but you as 6 foot with long legs giving advice for shorter riders is like the carpenter telling the mechanic how to fix the car. The problem with seat height mainly has to do with the embarrassment that comes from dropping the bike at the parking lot or having to get off the bike to walk it. There is a danger when doing an emergency stop and the bike is not perfectly balanced. In those situations you will need your feet to not drop the bike in the middle of traffic. Beginner riders always have fear when stopping the bike on traffic. One of the motorcycle skills is to stop the bike balanced. Experienced riders may know how to stop the bike balanced but they prefer not having to deal with difficult techniques to deal with the seat height. Riding is about the joy of riding and if something about a motorcycle takes away from that joy then it defeats the purpose.
    When it comes to beginners, if you push a bike on a beginner that will the rider feel uncomfortable chances are that rider will not like the experience and quit. It's better to encourage new riders to ride a motorcycle they feel comfortable with learning. Once the rider learns skills and feel comfortable they will choose whatever motorcycle style they like.
    There are all kinds of techniques that can be used to stop a tall bike with short legs but it gets tiring very quickly in traffic. I do agree that 99.9% of the time you only need one foot. Your left foot because your right foot should be on the brake.
    When it comes to super moto it is not the seat height, it's more that some people don't like that style of motorcycle. Super motos tend to be skinny so the seat height is not as much of a big deal as some adventure bikes that are tall, wide and heavy.

    it matters on stop and go traffic, unless you are super fit, otherwise it will be exhausting, on the Track, you can ride a bike with 70 inches seat height :D , on the street commute, get one where you can flat foot both feet....................

  • @erichagen8053
    @erichagen8053 Месяц назад

    I disagree Cruza. It does matter. The question is how much it matters, and it depends on the bike. I'm 5'4" with a 28" inseam and don't flat foot any bike this side of a cruiser (which I don't ride). It also matters on what surface you ride. As a short rider, I have to be more careful where I put my foot down. That's every time I ride and every time I come to a stop. There's a lot of nuisances that come into play that don't get mentioned on short rider videos.

      Yep, agreed- sure you can ride a taller bike if you’re a shorter person but it gets tiring having to sort out which leg to drop. Not easy maneuvering / parking etc.

      Yeah it is a mental issue. Actually, even though I can flat foot my supermotos with ease, I usually keep one foot on the peg and one on the ground at stops for comfort.

      Yes, even more than that but those are old videos get buried and short riders still complain about seat height so I feel compelled to do a new motivational video on this every now and then. No rider should fear seat height ever.

      I'm astounded by her riding skills, she puts on clinics nationwide. It just goes to show you seat height is more if a mental issue than a physical one. Also, Saaraazh is short and is the queen of supermotos, does amazing stunts on them.

    Seat height DOES matter Rick, and it can be proven IF you are ready to take a challenge rather than just talk smack. Construct a 8" tall seat riser/extension for any one of your bikes. This way you simulate exactly being 5'4" tall. Now ride that in city traffic. Choose roads with lots of camber. Ride in the rain and dark. Ride off road...then see how foolishly you're speaking.

    • @alphacapo
      @alphacapo Месяц назад +2

      I say this all the time. Have to stop and get your foot down but your on your toes add camber and slippery surface and you just dropped your bike in traffic. I'd like to see him ride a 40 inch seat heightin stop and go. Tall doesn't matter off road. Ride anything. On road it matters. Ask those woman I
      How many times they drop their dirt bike. It's a ton. Plus they don't ride on the street
