    This is not an opera song, it was never meant to be an opera song. It was just dedicated to a famous opera singer. The song was written and performed by pop-folk singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla.

    the performance has a lot of emotion in it, the song is meant to be rough and straight forward and, as i mentioned before, ignazio was really emotional during the performance, so i think the cracks that u say should be fixed, are perfect the way they are because they add so much more to the overall result! sometimes it's not just about technique

  • @NoClueHonestly
    @NoClueHonestly 6 лет назад +2

    Sam, I've been binging your videos since yesterday and one thing I've noticed that I really appreciate is that you're genuinely trying to be helpful. Even when listening to singers whose technical capabilities leave a lot to be desired you don't trash them or have an elitist attitude. Instead you focus on pointing out what's causing the problems and how that could be improved. "Here's what happened with this performance, this is what caused it, this is how it could be fixed" vs. "This person can't sing, his/her place is not on stage, this sounds awful". I'm glad to have found your videos and I hope you'll keep uploading them :)

    I absolutely love your analysis in these videos. I am a self taught singer, and many years ago I had the idea of taking voice lessons just for kicks. In none of these lessons did I feel the same type of poignant and structured "constructive critique". No fault of the teacher, just a different approach. As an adult, I felt like a child...In a sense, I was taking voice lessons not knowing anything about music prior to, but came out of them the same and don't think I really learned much.
    Over the years I have lost much of my high note power and want to get it back... I would love to be able to take lessons from someone, like yourself, who explains in "detail" what needs to happen or what went well...
    Thank you for these videos.... I binge watch when I can ;)

      Beatriz Mathias On the U.S.A's anthem - while not analysed from a singing perspective per say, check out Adam Neely's video on the subject. If I remember correctly (I'm not American and not particularly familiar with the tune) it was originally written as a virtuoso piece for some drinking club that later had poetry put to it. It's difficult to sing because that's why it was written.

    Your explanation of a more open jaw on the vowels producing a more classical sound and a more closed jaw to produce a classical-pop sound was a lightbulb moment for me. I’m classically trained and every time I sing, the classical sounds comes through. I think I’ll start experimenting with this for songs I don’t want to sound operationally. Thanks!

  • @juliahenriques210
    @juliahenriques210 5 лет назад +3

    It does seem like he's avoiding classical structures to prevent himself from falling into more operatic technique. Forcefully working his mouth is quite an easy way to do so, and he does use his tiny cracks for dramatic emotional effect, so he actually doesn't lose any performance value. Ignazio is a savvy guy.

    Probably someone else commented on this already, but the original song was composed and brought to (local) fame by Lucio Dalla (the guy on the big screen behind the singer). He wasn't a classically trained opera singer, and the original version has a different feeling, less of opera-pop flare (which I personally hardly stand) and a more nostalgic, emotionally engaging feeling.

    I would recommend you react to Il Volo live at the Grand final of Eurovision 2015, Rona Nilshiu live at the Grand Final of Eurovision 2012 (you won't believe it.. ), Loreen live at the GF of Eurovision 2012, Pastora Soler live at the GF of Eurovision 2012, Aminata live at the GF od Eurovision 2015, Elina Nechayeva (she's opera) and Eugent Bushpepa live at GF of Eurovision 2018. There are a lot of very very good singers in Eurovision! If you don't know what Eurovision is, it is a singing competition for European countries (now also extra European) which is held every year since 1956. It was created to unify a torn Europe after WW2 through music. Every country can partecipate with one entry, all entries have to compete in 2 semi finals, except the big five (Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the UK), which are directly qualified for the Grand Final. The countr that wind will host the following year: this year won Netta, from Israel, so next year the show will take place in Israel.

    Hi Sam, big fan of your vids! This is an old performance (~2015) of I. Boschetto from Il Volo. What I've noticed in recent years is that he actually learned exactly what you pointed out in the vid which is adjusting the chin movement a little bit to create more rounded-forward sounds very characteristic in opera singers. In 2017, Il Volo recorded a pure classic LIVE album in collaboration with Placido Domingo (Notte Magica - A Tribute to the Three Tenors) which I believe marked a before and after moment in Boschetto's quality. He probably received intense opera vocal training with the master and you can tell the evolution in the singing. I recommend you listen to the next two interpretatations from that 2017 album:
    Una furtiva lagrima from the Opera Un elizer d'amor, I. Boschetto's solo:
    1. ruclips.net/video/Rlp26vYh-jk/видео.html (official release)
    2. ruclips.net/video/BVMZ46ZRyNk/видео.html (amateur recording from one of their concerts)
    Torna a soriento, the three guys from Il Volo singing:
    1. ruclips.net/video/ePxIrU0PIuI/видео.html (official release)
    They all sound AMAZING in the whole album, and Boschetto has some remarkable moments. Final note, I trully believe the group sound even better in 2020.
    Keep going the good work, man!
    - a

      This Is exactly correct. To do the tribute to the three tenors Ignazio and Gianluca received opera training together with Piero and his vocal coach\teacher for months! They had to learn everything Piero already knew about proper Opera singing, the results show how great they have been. So so good! Anyway Ignazio's solo "una furtiva lagrima" it's so captivating, but i especially love when they sing together "Nessun dorma" aria from the Turandot. That is magical ✨🎶✌️💪🔥💯🎵👌💙⭐

    I was thinking that maybe the way he sang EEE.. ( 'nte vene..) is influenced by the pronunciation. This guy is from Bologna ( North Italy), like the author of the song, but the song talks about the Neapolitan singer Caruso. The lirycs are: "a man hugged a girl, after she stopped crying and starting to sing " Te vojo bene assai..." ( I love you so much) So when Caruso sings his line, he sings with the Neapolitan accent, therefore the somehow nasal and narrow E. Anyway... I love this song too much. I cried :)
