    Were any of my thoughts and rambling helpful? I didn't want to dig into super specifics about training because everyone is slightly different but feel free to leave your questions below and I'll get right to them.

    Really great advice, Hanoch. I've done the one day about 15 times since 2002. For me its about time in saddle. Flying wheels is great barameter on whether to do the one or two day ride. I keep saying I'm not doing it again, but I keep guiding someone that has never done the one day, getting in before 9pm or before the beer garden closes.😊
    I'll be 72 for this STP.
    I would add to your advice, unless you're in a pace line (I hardly ever do), try to resist going all out the first hundred miles. Let the speeders go by, you do your pace, 16-17 average is perfect. Because, after Centralia, that's when the ride really begins. I always force myself to rest a full 15 minutes at Lexington, it really helps with that last 40 miles.
    Now, to get out and ride...😊

    Getting back on the saddle the morning of day two was the worst, my preparation this year will be getting in my normal rides and then a ride the very next morning to get mentally prepared 😂. Also great comment about pace, and be careful on the roads leaving the stadium, horrible roads, I passed people with popped tires less than 30 minutes in.

      which Stadium? The Husky one at the very start?

      @@BestSideCycling feeling pretty good and nervous/excited. Doing it with a group of 5ish so will have a good support team.

    I was looking for stp videos and came across this, realized I saw you at the MEETS ride a couple of days ago. This year will be my first STP and going to do it in one day! See you there maybe.

    Good advice, I think you’re on point with the nutrition aspect for one day. That’s something I’m still figuring out… 7-11 bomb burritos are not optimal lol

      Hahaha the most bang for your bucks carbs late into a ride is probably a good soda.

    I have a new goal. I'm from portland, but a cascade train ticket is pretty cheap and only a couple extra bucks to take your bike with you

    What distance ride should I a rider have accomplished in training to be able to ride 200 miles in one day? I believe that if I can do 120 miles, I'll be able to get through the last 80.

    • @BestSideCycling
      @BestSideCycling  2 месяца назад +1

      I think that's a fair assertion: if you've managed 120 miles you should be able to do 200. The main question with STP is timing since there is a start time of around 5am to 9pm. You probably don't want to run too close to that including breaks, so I'd say a 16 mph avg min would be advised.

    • @DennyKWay
      @DennyKWay 2 месяца назад

      @@BestSideCycling A pace of 16 mph is pretty aggressive on my own. But if I can find a group to draft with, I might be able to manage it. This brings up another question: How can I connect with a person or group who might want to ride with me on the STP?

    If I have a budget for it, how much effort should I put into reducing the weight of my bike?

    • @BestSideCycling
      @BestSideCycling  2 месяца назад +1

      Not too much... On the flats weight doesn't change too much only aerodynamics which is achieved usually by practice over time and adjusting your position. If you have a carbon frame your bike should already be quite decently light

    Does anyone at all ride TT/tri bikes or use aero/tt bars on their road bikes during STP? I couldn't find any info if it's even "technically" allowed. I fully get that it's very much frowned upon during typical group rides for safety reasons, but if you are just on your own or with a small group of people who are ok with it? Curious more from a comfort standpoint rather than speed, to be able to ride in different positions, stretch, etc. Basically, is it technically ok but the rules and does anyone at all do it?

    • @Huskyman1
      @Huskyman1 Месяц назад +1

      People do ride tt/tri bikes on the stp, just don't ride in the pace lines. I've ridden it once on a trip bike, and liked being more aero for the distance and the hand positions were nice...

    Do you have a recommended route in this area to try out doing 80 miles in a day?

    • @BestSideCycling
      @BestSideCycling  2 месяца назад

      Yes I can link one later but basically a two lake loop around lake Washington and Sammamish is a good classic

    • @Yurkevich22
      @Yurkevich22 2 месяца назад +2

      You could do 60 by doing the Centennial trail out and back + some additional roads to get you to 80. One loop around lake WA is about 50mi, so you could that twice for a 100 too.

    what if you don't make the 6-8pm bus deadline for one day?

    • @BestSideCycling
      @BestSideCycling  Месяц назад +1

      The final bus departure I believe is at 9:15pm. I think in the worst case if you actually miss the Saturday bus: your bus ticket I think also works for Sunday/Monday that is also offered by Cascade. So you might just need to cover some impromptu lodging but I'd just confirm and ask info@cascade.org
