From her debut as a child artiste in "Mane katti nodu" at the age of 11 to becoming the unrivaled queen of Kannada Cinema, Manjula's journey is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
In 1967, she took on the role of a heroine in "Padhaveedhara" and went on to star in numerous memorable films such as "Yaara Saakshi," "Sampaththige Savaal," "Mayura," and "Daari Thappida Maga." Her remarkable talent and on-screen presence made her the preferred choice for legendary actor Dr. Rajkumar, thanks to the late Parvathamma Rajkumar's keen eye.
Manjula's filmography boasts an impressive 98 Kannada movies, along with 2 Telugu and 5 Tamil movies. Some of her notable works include "Moora Vare Vajragalu," "Bhaktha Kumbaara," "Shrinivasa Kalyaana," and "Sose Thanda Sowbhagya."
However, her personal life was not without challenges. Married to director Amrutham, Manjula faced opposition from family members due to their love marriage. Despite this, she stood firm and gave birth to a son, Abhishek. Speculations about her reduced opportunities in the industry surfaced, but the truth was that Manjula chose to prioritize her family over her acting career.
Tragically, on September 12th, 1986, the news of a kitchen stove accident shook Karnataka. Manjula sustained severe burns, and despite efforts to save her, she passed away at 8:30 PM. The chapter closed on the history of a queen who had graced the Kannada film industry for almost a decade.
