    This is such a good interview. I just always appreciate Barney’s humility and authenticity, and his uncompromising approach to Napalm’s vision and the ideas the band represents.

    Agree with his political stances or not, Barney at least encourages people to think. Too much music is manufactured, contrived, designed to sell soda, t-shirts or fucking perfume. ND are independent, free-thinking and just the purest form of energy I've ever seen on a stage. Barney is like a force of nature, and I think one of the greatest frontmen in music.

    Another ace interview with Mark and its great to hear Barney go into more depth than the usual short from promotional interviews allow. This longer Q&A really brings out the larger arc thought processes that reveal the motivation behind the music.

    Nice that they mentioned John Peel. I was introduced to Napalm by John Peel. He had a very individual way of doing things, the way he could go from Ella Fitzgerald in to Napalm Death and then on to Orbital and back to something like Muddy Waters would take you on quite the musical journey and really challenge you.

    Very good interview. Napalm Death are legendary. I used to go see them a lot when they rolled into Cleveland, Ohio USA. And they always played very spot on. As close as most could get to 'Putting The Needle On The Record'. I've talked w/ Shane a few times. He was cool. The accent difference between us is? Well? Ha?! But the point got across. Way I remember. Down to Earth guy. Great Bassist. I don't want to get into the political stuff. I divide somewhere down the middle from Barney's viewpoint. I will say that. America has different problems than Europe, etc. But I like him regardless of the fact. Amazing Frontman. High Energy. Again? Great Interview. Thank You Christina!!!

    Saw Napalm Death at The Trocadero in Philadelphia in July 1991. The bill included Sepultura, Sick of it All, and Sacred Reich. After the show, we met Sepultura and Napalm Death. Sepultura were super cool and at the age of 16 we thought it was funny that Napalm Death cared most about getting back to the tour bus to watch football (soccer).

    His milquetoast Ben & Jerry's endorsed politics are 30 years out of date, it isn't the 90s anymore. Invoking Hitler won't cut it. I'd love to see him debate someone and have his obsolete viewpoints challenged, rather than the usual sanctioned preaching.

    • @TheVoidwithChristina
      @TheVoidwithChristina  3 года назад +2

      Those are strong words, I am keen to know what your more evolved perspectives are, and I mean that respectfully. All he said in this particular moment was that the world is being dehumanised, and there are still powerful people treating refugees and LGBTQI people like they don't have the same worth as other people. Am genuinely curious what you believe are 21st century values and perspectives on the world at large, and what needs to be left behind - very interested in your response as I haven't heard anyone call him outdated before. It took you time to write this and I'm always keen to learn more from whatever source, even if it comes from a critical place.

      @@TheVoidwithChristina I appreciate the tone of your comment. Ideally I would like to see someone like Barney for example; have his ideas tested and challenged in debate, with a clear opening premise up for discussion. It is better than just meandering dialogue. I think he's referencing the V4 nations in that segment, and seemingly aiming an albums worth of critique at their political policies and democratic process. This is extremely low hanging fruit and not remotely bold or daring. It's simply aiming at the last remaining slithers of conservatism that prevailed somewhat across Europe until the 80's before the more progressive attitude of the 90's shaped the West. So for me, and others I think you would find, this is an obsolete and outdated position, it's also very safe. Things have gone so far in the other direction now that merely objecting to progressive far left ideology in public can see an individual cancelled, arrested, their income removed overnight, public shaming with no recourse whatsoever, all sanctioned directly by leftists, governments, huge corporations, law enforcement and napalm death, so I wonder what side this ilk might find themselves on. I'm not right wing but if you exist in regular society these days, working 9-5 (I work in a factory) not the life of a touring musician or young RUclipsr for example, it is not hard to realise just how fast things are changing and what little voice you have.

      @@DickHarding straight to the insults, do you know how ridiculous that makes you look? Any pushback against this narrative; even in an adult manner and that is how you respond? Really? Will you exist in this petulant teenage rebellion punk rock phase for your entire life? The government, corporate and entertainment world are obsessed with woke causes and politics. It seems you want everyone else to fall in line with yourself; and them, or else. We are allowed to object and voice our opinion to the contrary. Perhaps you should grow up a bit?
