I am a councillor I sent a proposal to the district council for 6 rapids. They rejected it and put 3 phase chargers instead that can only be used on a few makes of car .the rest like me only get 7kw as my vehicle only takes single phase .I am the only councillor with an EV. Council meetings are full of people with poor education . They don't even understand climate charge or the health problems fossil vehicles cause.

@@michealridgway7607 That figures Michael. Many local councils are full of councillors who don't even have much idea about council matters.... One wonders why a councillor would be in the least bit concerned with how much it might cost to charge an electric car at home, when he/she wouldn't be paying the electricity bill? But sadly that sort of warped logic appears rife in some local councils. You could be forgiven for thinking someone on a local council, might just have taken a few moments to research how much it costs to charge an EV at home, before making such a statement?

The new charging points were going to be part of a Morrisons service station. This means there would be cars constantly coming and going to get petrol with car doors being opened and closed like the clappers. A few charging points would make negligable difference

Where I live Epsom, the council has put in 7/11kw chargers in their carparks and charge for overnight parking! The adjacent council, mole valley, has put in their chargers with no overnight parking fee - Both are in Surrey! But at least we do have some kerb side chargers! Not sure if it’s the county council responsibility as it on the Highway!

This is one area where the wider government can help kick local councils into action.
People don't need lamp-post chargers and charging hubs. They just need permission and a standardised way to run their own charge cable from their property across the footpath. The government needs to say "this footpath channel system is approved for nationwide use" and shove local councils into unwilling action.
Kerbside charging with channel solutions like kerbocharge solves the problem for vast swathes of terraced housing, opening up EV use to a large number of less-well-off people that need them. It comes essentially for free - the council only needs to arrange a channel and leave the decision on which charger and the cost of the charger and the whole responsibility for maintaining the charger to the house owner.
It seems like a no-brainer. The only reason local councils want charging hubs and expensive lamppost charging systems is because they can send the work to their donor mates for a bit of profit.

Where I live very very few EV owners use the 3.5kW kerbside charging posts in the local city because they are more expensive to use (and you have to pay for £1 an hour parking) than going to the edge of town park and ride where there are 30 x 22,11 and 7kW chargers and 5 x50kW chargers run by a Scottish government company, that are cheaper to use, parking is free and where there is a £1 return cost for a courtesy bus into the city centre. I see more ICE cars parking on the street parking post streets than EVs. I am lucky to live in a rural area out of the city where we have 4 unused 7kW. They are unused because all the locals (including social housing) have drives and home chargers running on cheap off peak tariffs. What was the point of digging up pavements to put in expensive to install and use kerbside very slow charging?

if all supermarkets put solar on the supermarket roof then sell it to ev charging at a good price.

I find it crazy how local councils have so much power. Often they are ignorantly refusing requests for progress. If they actually tested and looked properly to understand what they are being requested to approve they may be more inclined to learn and approve.
I believe technology exists that we could link kerbside 7/11kWh charging to peoples home electricity account to allow access to cheaper tariffs, with maybe an extra cost per kWh to help towards the installation.
Finally kerbside charging car door noise will be exactly the same as a car parking and people getting in or out.

I'm interested to see if all the manufacturers selling in the UK restructure their pricing to bring a large preposition or the car's under the 40k luxury car bracket. I see no reason for them to have stupid RRP like the vauxhall Astra electric of £43 k when people are paying in the high 20s. I can see the id3/eNiro/Kona electric and many others dropping the top models down and squeezing the prices within the range to keep sales when April comes

      @GruffSillyGoat День назад

@@bwarey52 - they'll probably pass on battery cost savings plus a smaller profit squeeze profits, hoping to increase sales volume to make up the lower profit per unit. This would make sense as analysis shows higher numbers of buyers considering to buy electric this year when replacing their existing ICE car.
It may be that 2024 was the year that proved EV sales could grow, even in difficult circumstances (i.e. below projected total market sales volumes), with automakers committing to producing more EVs, bringing out more affordable mass-market models and generally being less cautious at replacing their ICE lines.
It seems, particularly for the EU and the UK with their mandates, that automakers will pivot from pure-ICE to hybrids (HEV/PHEVs with their lower CO2 emissions earning much needed credits towards the mandates), whilst increasing the volume of BEV production.
I suspect what the head of future strategy at Cap-HPI said about the market for ICE stalling from next-year onwards and the market shrinking uptill 2028/29, as the more reticent ICE owners hold onto their current cars for longer, then the automakers are seeking to reduce their costs in keeping ICE production going, swap to cheaper electrificed platform production and stimulate the sales on BEVs leading up to 2030.

I saw an article this morning about the Morrisons EV charging refusal. Apparently this is somewhat shoddy journalism where they have been selective in what they've reported and omitted that the application included a car wash facility. Also the council make it clear that a potential noise assessment must be included with the application which is why the council planning officers immediately rejected it.
I don't understand why they didn't just ring them to say we need a noise assessment.
Still who knows what the real reason is.
As for kerbside charging there needs to be a clear set of rules for everyone. If some councils allow cables across the footpath with an approved non trip conduit which doesn't cause any problems, then why do others ban them. Is it the same as the ICE car good but EV bad brand of ignorance?

As a note, I have a BEV but my wife and disabled son cannot drive so if I'm not about rely on public transport.
