Many, th9ink about how many people have been exonerated on Death Row in the US since DNA testing.

One is too many. A lot have been executed for crimes they never committed. Almost all of them poor. That’s a fact.
Precisely why this case led to the abolition of the death penalty in the UK; we executed an innocent for nothing other than being a simpleton easily led in police interrogations..
I cried for Timothy Evans 😭 What an unfortunate lad.. may he reunited with his wife and daughter in heaven.. RIP the Evans
I haven't watched the doc yet so they probably mention this but I know Timothy AND his wife were both intellectually disabled and had suffered their whole lives due to that. Being dirt poor AND disabled intellectually and then to also have this happen? I swear Hell is on Earth for some people. I can't imagine. Our ancestors were tough as nails. I imagine suicide rates would skyrocket if our current society was suddenly plunged into these living/social economic conditions.
This is one of the most tragic stories I've ever heard, that monster took everything from Tim Evans.

@Lady Jay Mac timothy Evans was an alcoholic who beat his wife. Since he initially told police he had given his wife a potion to cause an abortion and that had caused her to die, there seems to be a lot of missing info here on what really happened. As for your last point, the problems and social conditions our ancestors faced are carried over now. A lot of them were abused, abusive and violence was normal. That is, of course, very normal human conditioning, unfortunately.
There is a very good movie about this story. It's a British movie called 10 Rillington Place starring Richard Attenborough and John Hurt. It was made in 1971 and is adapted from the book about the case, Ten Rillington Place.
There is also a tv mini series called Rillington Place, which is also very good, although I do prefer Richard Attenborough as Christie, Tim Roth does an excellent job as well.

I think the actors playing main characters are very good, this is an excellent reconstruction documentary...very chilling, highlighting the fact that a men was executed wrongly because of the callous, murderous nature of Christie...

The actor who played Christie is excellent (all actors in this series are, but this story was chillingly well told in my opinion).
I think playing Tim Evans is the most difficult one.. imagine the mix of feelings, confused, worry, upset, angry, shocked, panic, guilty all at once.. man that guy is brilliant
Imagine how horrible it must be to have just lost your wife and child and then getting wrongly convinced and executed for the murder or your baby

How can they refer to Christie as a ‘respectable man’ when he’s had 4 convictions?!!!
He did not tell them of his convictions, and he had been enlisted as a War Reserve Policeman because nobody had checked his records,
At the time England was a class conscious society and Christie belonged to the class deemed "respectable", so it's meant in that context
What happened to Evans was definitely a miscarriage of justice due to gross discrimination.
Someone's past mistakes and learning disabilities don't equal a murderer. Ironically, Christie had a relatively normal upbringing and was somewhat smart, especially for the time he grew up in.
I watch a lot of true crime, you probably do too since you are here, so I'm sure you've noticed this but I was just going to add that I think our society still puts a lot of innocent people with intellectual disabilities and past mistakes away to life sentences and to death row. I watched a documentary about a handful of death row inmates they were able to exonerate with modern DNA evidence. The lengths they have to go to not only obtain, but then present this evidence to the court and have a death row conviction overturned is extraordinarily complex almost designed to not let it happen, it seems like. The court doesn't want to ever admit a mistake was made. Our justice system cannot fail even once in their eyes. The Alford Plea is such a great illustration of that. A defendant pleading they're innocent but also having to admit the court has enough evidence to convict them so they must beg for mercy to be aquitted even though they are innocent...so bizarre. Like they cannot admit a mistake can be made. They act like they're omniscient, like a god or something. I can barely stand to think about all the innocent people caged and killed due to society's discrimination, still, today.
I'm sure the judge, jury and prosecutors bear their guilts for the rest of their lives
the acting is better in these documentaries than most TV shows and movies today.

In the beginning they say Evans can't read ( a medical book shown by Christie ) ... at the end they say that he confessed after he read a letter his mother wrote to his aunt ... which one is it?
Yeah, good point there. He may have had a low IQ, but he was able to read a letter from his mother, so I’m just as confused - which one is it? Could he read or not? 🤔
Evans couldn’t read; it’s believed his confession was led by the police officers, and the transcription - since he couldn’t read or right - was further edited to “correct” any mistakes from when Evans deviated from the details he had been fed by the police.
The confession didn’t come from having read a letter from his mother; it came from intense interrogation from police who had convinced a simpleton that he had committed the murder despite having no real recollection.
It was essentially “gaslighting” - they were so confident and insistent that he did it that, once he’d been worn down by the interrogation, he internalized what they told him and simply parroted back the details they’d provided him.

This case hurts. Poor Timothy Evans... As someone who also struggles with their own intellectual disabilities, this one really hits.

These things are so out of an average mind! It's interesting how parental relations have a HUGE effect on these kinds of criminals. I don't always agree with my parents, but I respect them and have always cut myself lose from any negative individual. It's liberating, to forgive others and let go. Let God have vengeance on whom He chooses.

Yea, I noticed that too. After a war there SEEMS LIKE there becomes an uptick in serial killers. I first thought I noticed it when I was checking out all the American serial killers after Vietnam...so many!

Some people must be born evil, to murder another human is an unforgivable act, we need harsh punishment or murderers have zero fear, to go along with their zero empathy, injection to put them down easily, screw that, they should suffer, like the victims and their family suffered.

Why do the English often pronounce TH as an F?
I did this very often when I was younger.. its bc I was kinda lazy to add that extra OOMPH to the words :-D
It is mainly the cockneys of London who pronounce TH as F, but most of the rest of the country pronounce it as TH.
It's not laziness, it's just part of the accent in many areas.

Is it Still "Normal " over there in that country to have witnesses or co-defendants to be in the audience like this ? Wth
Co-defendants would be sitting at the same table as the primary defendant or held in jail if they were to be tried separately. I should think witnesses, once they've given their testimony, would be allowed to attend the rest of the trial as a regular audience member. Recall that John Christie wasn't a defendant during the first trial. Trying to (accurately) pin the murder on him was strictly a defense tactic.

The eviction MORATORIUM crowd should all get voted out. They forced private citizens to pay rents for total strangers for 2 long years while they had to pay theirs also. The pains, the headaches that landlords have been going through are unfair. They did that just on the name of a mysterious disease that everyone had to go through.
