    Poughkeepsie is my absolute favorite trail in those parts! Stunning & spectacular! Fortunately we got to do it twice, once going up & once coming down from corkscrew! Actually got to watch a deer lay down to bed right in front of my rig & it let me walk all the way up to it without moving! Incredible experience I'll never forget! Thanks for taking me back Richie! Can we stop a minute and appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into filming very risky dangerous trails like this? To get out, walk up to place the camera, walk back to the truck and drive it. Then pull over to go retrieve your camera.
    Is so time consuming and dangerous too.
    Truly appreciate your hard work Richie. These views are absolutely amazing.
    Thanks so so much for sharing. Xoxox 😘

    I am so blessed to live in beautiful Colorado, yet I am unable to go where you do on these trails. I am so thankful for you, Richie, that you film your adventures here in Colorado and give the history of these mining towns long forgotten. I have climbed many of the 14'ers here, run the rapids in the Arkansas river through many of the canyons, but only wish I could travel these 4x4 trails. Thank you for being such a blessing to me, and so many others that could only dream of doing, and seeing, the beauty you show is here in Colorado. I am truly grateful! God bless you

  • @aabikrman
    @aabikrman 3 года назад +22

    I really appreciate the history foundation you include with your presentations and of course, the "viewer inclusive" narrative and descriptions about the off-camber portions, sharp rocks, steepness, etc., and the fact that you stop along the way to take in the immersive beauty that is the absolute best part of the San Juan's as many people seem to rush these trails which I've never understood. It's virtually impossible to recreate the emotions and "seat of the pants" feelings that are a part of these trails but you come the closest I've seen without actually being there physically. The volume of traffic is somewhat shocking to me especially given that we're in the "shoulder season" now. I also notice far more retirees out there the last several years which contributes to the weekday traffic when the trails used to be far quieter. Travel safe and thank you for your outstanding efforts, the quality conveys your love for this special country !

      Trying to track down and repurchase my 1976 Datsun 4x4 conversion pickup that I purchased in 1981, it was originally a 2 wheel drive converted to 4x4 by the Datsun dealership in 1976, 3000lb thing would go anywhere! Drove it for 27 years and made the mistake of selling it when I bought a new 2006 Tacoma TRD quad cab 4x4, it was a nice truck but it's been sold. I haven't seen my old 4x4 Datsun in years, don't know where or what happened to it, gonna start knocking on doors where I'd last seen it, see if I can track down the kid I sold it to, I don't remember name/s, but if I find a landlord, I'll find that kid... Not to make light of your brother, but a lot of us know that to some of us vehicles are like family.

Became extremely ill from dehydration and the altitude, couldn't even hold the bike up by the time I got to the intersection with Poughkeepsie. Went to lay down for a break and a couple in a Wrangler offered to take the bike down to Hwy 550. Swallowed my pride and accepted. That is something I will always remember. Great footage Richie. I lived in Ouray for 15 years. I only did Poughkeepsie once. The sharp boulders slashed a tire. It's rough. I used to telemark ski Corkscrew in the springtime. The snow let go once and I rode the slide down and was able to exit left before being piled up on the boulders at the bottom. It's a land of adventure for sure. I was on the mountain rescue team and retrieved a lot of people from precarious situations. Some survived and some not. That's part of the game. I also telemark skied Imogene Pass every spring starting at the top of Red Mountain Pass, across the ridge of Telluride Peak then down Imogene. We would stop and eat lunch at "the fort" before descending. Once I found myself standing on top of a Jeep Wrangler that didn't make it when the first major snow storm hit in late fall or early winter. I found the owner in town and he was able to retrieve his Jeep around mid June. He was blocking the trail for the bulldozer that clears the snow early in the year. But the dozer didn't make it that far that spring. It slid sideways off "The Wall". The driver jumped off and was okay. The dozer was relatively okay too after uprighting it. Tough machines. Caught in multiple avalanches in the snow tunnel on the Million Dollar Highway. Snowplows won't push through avalanche debris. Had to get articulating front end loaders to clear the road. Keeping people calm was the biggest challenge. The mountains aren't for everyone. I'm mountain biking the high country a lot and carry a Glock .40 S&W because of run-ins with mountain lions. It's God's country for sure.

    Omg had to wait 4 days to see this as our cell tower went out. This was best episode thus far I do say. Can't wait for part 2.

    Thank you Richie! I loved this video, I love that you incorporate the history of the area into the video. We are able to enjoy the scenery and imagine what it was like way back then when they were mining. How hard life was back then. I really appreciate you taking me to these amazing places that I very likely will never see. Those mountains and valleys were beautiful, and that lake was gorgeous!
