I know stavtech has been on about antilag since he had a mad turbo Volvo. Maybe he has refined his process but it’s surfing out there and I like to watch that video for reference
The turbo flutter when you have long piping reminds me of the turbo drag cars you would see here in Australia back in the early 2000's with massive front mount intercoolers, it goes on for ages.
The old RAF gauges can use radium (radioactive) to make them luminescent and so they don't need to be back lit. Don't mess around with the numbers or needle as radium is worse than uranium. That gauge was fitted to Westland whirlwind helicopters and Gloster Meteor jets.
@@Sbanar I googled the part number and that what it said ....so it could well be wrong or not...The radiation is defo a thing in old gauges, maybe this is, maybe it isn't but best to be aware of the potential.
I must say Stav, when you first moved on the MR2 platform, I rasied my eyebrows, however knowing what you do, and how you do it, i was keen to see what you would come up with....... Need to see a video of this on track, drag strip or runway. Also looking forward to the technical video on anti lag. Been subscribed for years love your stuff. Will pop down when my turbo m42 e36 is not an embarrassment.
28:56 Whats good Stav! I'm one of the folk who left a comment on the Facebook mirror of the Instagram clip you posted that went semi-viral. I'd asked for the video covering the ALS you use, so I'm stoked to hear you are going to cover it. To explain the surprise attention, this style of true rally/F1(but not inlet bypass or ignition retard) anti-lag isn't really talked about by would be experts on the topic and I myself *really* don't consider myself knowed on the matter given I've never used it. I'd be an armchair expert at best. The closest folk get to being exposed to a true(effective) ALS system these days *would be* WRC Group Rally1 cars which don't run in the UK or North America anymore, unlike when you were a lad. So really, you are the only person bringing light to the fact that Throttle Kick ALS is an actual thing. Everything you said about parts and tuners is right as well, mapping in Throttle Kick doesn't make bank like selling manifolds does and the minority who would want it are driven away by poorly mapped "anti-lag"(pops n bangs) that just roasts exhaust valves. Doing the lord's work my friend. Oh and keep the hubcaps. They are an immense troll, I love them so much.
I would think you could get more from a twin scroll having the tubes exactly where you need the most pressure where it’s needed in the power and. Good on ya.
Wow, that’s interesting. I always wrote off the idea of a twin scroll on my volvo 5 cylinder. Figured if I ever ran a twin scroll housing I wouldn’t run a twin scroll manifold. It would be interesting to see if dividing the manifold works better or not.
It defo will. Common sense alone shows that. They are all divided perfectly aside from one starts just after another ends, so not perfect but sure as hell better than 5-1
His RUclips is Stav Tech. It’s a vw 1.8t swapped mk3 mr2. I think he explains the anti lag system in one of his videos it’s derived from the subi wrc rocket system I believe like the other comments say
@@StavTech absolutely did 😂 it was a short from a RUclips called exotic rubber of your car doing its anti lag idle I believe you said race mode on and off in it and showed the old raf boost gauge I think you said it was, interior cockpit video. You’re the only youtube creator I’ve found on instagram that I actually would want to watch haha! I am working on a special sequential system, and I was very curious about how the throttle position affects turbine speed? As in when it closes up like when it goes to idle, I imagine that causes you to get very high boost pressure, but does that help the turbine reach speed quicker? Or slower? Or the same? I have some guesses, but would love to know
Yes, the Subframe is a production piece, we’re doing a limited pre-order of them for £850. Full video showing and explaining it here- ruclips.net/video/zeL_puB0LMg/видео.htmlsi=I8vxResvjWcByGLV
@@StavTech come to think of it you're right lol, car meets my car with straight cut gears has people look as if its broken with the whine never mind the clutch chatter.
@@butwhytharum exactly. Amount of people on my other video commenting that my engine is knocking as the multi plate clutch is rattling is unreal. And this is “car people”. At a half mile day with one of my previous cars, again defo hardcore car people as it’s a half mile day, most didn’t even know what part of my engine was the turbo, on an engine either a large top mount turbo right in their face. And most people with typical sports and supercars know even less
Any advice on turbo selection for an ej22 that revs to 8k rpm? Worried a twin scroll he250 will just be blowing hot air on the top end, but dont trust the stock twin scroll manifold to make a 9cm he300w nice for a daily.
What’s your goals? Also there’s a big HE250 that would be absolutely fine, but most I’ve seen are way smaller and imo no good for big power. Unfortunately I’ve only seen one of the aforementioned He250s and can’t remember the part number either
@@StavTech Around 300bhp for daily driving, but 425 max for track days. Good throttle response is a must. Definitely grabbing it from Compressor Racing. Buy once cry once.
The general idea is to keep the turbo as efficient as possible at redline to reduce the possibility of pre-ignition or detonation, by reducing the intake air temperature. Subarus are known for blowing up, and I've got a feeling that the small turbos/restrictive turbine housing are part of that. The other items on the short list are poor coolant flow to cylinder 4, along with no heat shield under the top mount intercooler. I'll keep mining your channel for insights, and thanks for the reply.
@@Cobalt512 honestly when going as much as 425 and wanting a fairly unstressed setup and twin scroll, something like the billet HE351s they have would be my choice over something smaller. Small for a HE351, but plenty for your goals
