When Update 8 finally left Experimental and arrived on Early Access, I hadn't played Satisfactory in over a year (because I was waiting for some of the quality-of-life improvements). When I finally fired up my save file to give Update 8 a spin, I glanced at the clock a few minutes later and realized eight hours had gone by. 😮 Satisfactory is so satisfying that I literally can't even touch it without setting aside an entire day. 😂

Transcription of what the stationary Snutt said in the background (starting 2:17) - "And in all of these updates we're going to introduce unique Fixsit [something], or F-[something], that you need to collect in order to unlock the [something] of the game, which will unlock a new musical feature where you can compose and perform songs using various automated instruments. These songs will have different effects on the environment such as attracting or repelling creatures, changing the weather, or triggering cool in-game events just like Fortnite. And not only that, if you play these updates while they're in Experimental, you're gonna be able to unlock the Goat Simulator mode, where you can play as an actual goat, who will have their own faction."
This development process should be taught in universities. The gold standard of game development. Well done to everyone at Coffee Stain Studios, you should be proud of what you've created.
I can't speak for game dev. But in industrial software engineering, this is the core at the core of most models you get taught. But in most industries, a roadmap for the negotiated features is required and you would have "a closed BETA" with every single update where other shareholders do excessive testing with your work.
What made CSS and Satisfactory unique is that there was an initial roadmap, and what the "finished" game looked like. But then the game made a lot of money, which was able to fund dev for years longer and create a better game with an expanded roadmap. Unfortunately you can't know ahead of time if you're going to sell 5 million units of your software and have that kind of funding. But the fact that CSS was able to adapt and clearly put their money to good use instead of just leaving the game as it was, is noteworthy and is something other devs can learn from.

They are likable because they actually like us. Nowadays big developers hate us for wanting good games and for wanting some of our ideas implemented. They practically say it out loud. So when a developer comes along that listens and implements and all the things it’s mind boggling and we find them likable. Weird how it’s always the smaller companies that make the best games.
@@Stray.. the big companies can afford to lose some customers. It is never that 50% of potential customers won‘t buy a product. The most of them are complaining, but unfortunately the most of them buy the game anyway
@@razank8996 That is definitely a huge part of the problem. Even people who said they would NEVER buy Ark Ascended bought it. Same with all the Skyrim rereleases. They knew everyone was highly anticipating it and that all of them would buy it so who cares how it plays or how outdated it is.
I wish more studios took notice of how CSS does it with their early access and their interaction with the player-base. For me it has changed my perspective and has shown me that I can still expect great things from gaming companies instead of being spoon-fed the same old broken mess over and over again. And people have the nerve to say gaming is dying, when some of the best studios are this small, putting out quality work that's far better than "AAA Studios" these days.

I genuinely thought they were gonna do one more update (update 9) and then do a release trailer for update 10 but then at the dramatic climax, they would put a dot in between the 1 and 0 to signify 1.0 coming out for the tenth update to the game.
I'm glad 1.0 is the next milestone. The one thing I still really wanted from Satisfactory was to learn what the deal was with all those Mercer Spheres and Somersloops.

This game has so much potential. Its like factorio but in 3d, alive and vibrant. Imagine if you now had all the mods that you have in factorio but here in satisfactory, that would be so insane. I really cant state enough how much potential the game has.
I am reminded of Kerbal Space Program's development cycle with Satisfactory. That game was put in an early access state in late 2011 and got a release in 2015. Tons of pre-release updates happened in the 4 years between that, with the last two (0.19 and 0.9) being hugely spaced out from previous releases. I just hope Satisfactory ends up as satisfactory as Kerbal Space Program did!
Thanks Snut! Can't wait to see the final product. I bought the game on steam almost 3 years ago now and I still love playing it and trying all the realms as new starting locations!

Tears of joy right now. Grateful for this game, those making it, and the community around it. I cannot wait to experience what the actual story of the game is going to be and have that context as to what we've been partially working towards the last several years. I'm here for it.
Being open about the development is what kept me hooked to this game. Apart from figuring out my first nuclear plant, I really enjoyed the logistical puzzle behind it.
I hope any kids get to study Satisfactory as a case study in proper project management and taking feedback from customers. You guys have done an amazing job
Lazers and guns on all the buildings sounded pretty sick to me. Same goes for farming! Going to be a great year for the game no matter what is in store for us. Good luck Coffee Stain on this major push to 1.0!
came here to get some info on the roadmap and release and what I got is a wanna-be-funny community manager. about a minute of gibberish talk ( 2:17 - 3:00) seriously? I know this guy has to show something for the salary and I don't care if he wastes your studio's time and money but don't let him waste the time of your customers! It is not even done well but there are encoding artifacts in the video I am now at 3:30 and there was 10 seconds of information and 3:20 of community manager trying to be funny?! interesting?! annoying! Ok, you can define development phases as you like but releasing a game three years ago into early access is NOT an alpha version. I finished the video now and there was absolutely no, no, absolutely no, information. And the first half of the video was complete BS or was something that was mentioned to be implemented real? And you cannot even say the quarter release 1.0 will be released? So the community guy had to do something and they told him to make a 8 minutes video to tell us one line of information. I try to imagine the situation... 'hey community guy, make a video about this one liner on this post-it' What did he think? 'oh, f* how can I fill a video with this?!' or 'great, I always wanted to talk BS for several minutes straight' at least it made me laugh (about the ridiculous video and me wasting even more time for this BS)
lol the beginning reminded me of 7 days to die talking about updates coming forever in early access lol. But congrats on coming to this point! Super proud of you guys and I remember getting excited for this game the moment it hit the gaming showcase :)

I, long ago completed all the tiers and set myself the goal of making a major factory that makes every component the Build Gun uses -- once I finish it (it's very near completion) I'm probably going to stop playing and wait for 1.0 and new content where I plan on starting from scratch.
when I saw 2026 I was a bit sad! you got me. this is the one company I will support DLC. you guys have earned it. never felt so included in a games development before. what on earth would the first DLC be though? lasers?
I bought Satisfactory back when it just released on Epic. Had a lot of fun for a few hundreds of hours but couldn't keep playing without a narrative. That's just the way I felt. I loved the game and kept an eye on every single release and I'm happy to hear about the final story being added into the game. Can't wait to get my hands on the game again!!!!

Been playing Satisfactory since update 2! Just wet myself, nearly choked on my drink when Snutt said "Lasers" and gun emplacements on everything and now having to reinstall my bawain... err, rain, err, brain! :)
Now that there's pretty much no pipe hype, I'm hoping to look forward to light hype. laser beams sound really cool and i can't wait to see more of them in the next couple updates that will definitely come out within the next couple months
If I had one wish to make, would be to have this game evolve into something like space engineers, where you would have all the factories working on the planet, and finally be able to run to space, just to find more planets with different resources, and keep building from that, but having your already constructed bases feeding some of the materials of the new bases, until the very final construction would turn to be a dyson sphere, haversting energy from the star of that system and beaming it up back to our home galaxy.

Made me look pretty silly calling my bro over just to lie to him lol. That said. I love the game. Incredible work.
I agree. Base defense (in some capacity) is something a lot of people wish this game had, so pretty stupid to mock the idea when it would actually improve the game.
Been a fan since the early alphas of 2019, and have logged somewhere around 500-600 hours so far, across multiple updates and a couple multiplayer servers with friends. Haven't touched it since the blueprint update now though, mostly because I've been waiting for this piece of news. I'm ready to play at least another 5-600 hours, but I want it to be in 1.0, and now we're finally (hopefully) getting there! Satisfactory definitely had a roadmap at the start. It was taken down within the first year when the website got an overhaul. It featured having all full tiers, a story and an end goal, among other things. Which are all still on the invisible roadmap as of today.
So yeah we, as gamers, share in the blame.
That’s exactly why Bethesda feels okay about releasing the train wreck Starfield. They knew everyone was highly anticipating it and that all of them would buy it so who cares how it plays or how outdated it is.
I wish more studios took notice of how CSS does it with their early access and their interaction with the player-base. I joined the journey a bit later than others, and I regret not joining sooner because the bit I've been around with has been just amazing. Thank you for giving me hope that there might be game developers out there with the same dedication and love for their craft
I think most of the issues why companies can't do exactly what coffee stain studio does is because the community is just friendlier and understanding.
Most of the games usually house people with massive egos
To this day I still find Update 4 to be a “new” thing. Seeing update 9 (1.0) so close is hard to grasp. Godspeed you crazy pioneers.

In my entire gaming life, I've never seen something like Satisfactory. Thank you, Coffee Stain, thank you, community friends, I feel so grateful for this experience. This game really changed my life
For me it has changed my perspective and has shown me that I can still expect great things from gaming companies instead of being spoon-fed the same old broken mess over and over again. Your commitment to transparency, giving and tempering expectations, and always keeping things upfront with the player base has ben 11/10, top notch. The game is, and always has felt just outstanding and has come so far from when I started playing before fluid dynamics were a thing. I am so excited for this news, and look forward to getting to finally play the fully realized game that you have all worked so hard to make.
I'd like to add that how Coffee Stain Studios has handled their ramp-up to 1.0 has been an absolute master class in how to build trust, community, and excitement. I work in the tabletop game industry, and I am definitely going to use CSS's approach to bringing my next game to market if possible.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight
And people have the nerve to say gaming is dying, when some of the best studios are this small, putting out quality work that's far better than "AAA Studios" these days.

@@theanthill22 it took them a while but they had to update the unrealengine. there is an insane different between 4 and 8.

I genuinely thought they were gonna do one more update (update 9) and then do a release trailer for update 10 but then at the dramatic climax, they would put a dot in between the 1 and 0 to signify 1.0 coming out for the tenth update to the game.
That would have been my wish as well!

I know this guy has to show something for the salary and I don't care if he wastes your studio's time and money but don't let him waste the time of your customers!
It is not even done well but there are encoding artifacts in the video
I am now at 3:30 and there was 10 seconds of information and 3:20 of community manager trying to be funny?! interesting?!
'hey community guy, make a video about this one liner on this post-it'
What did he think? 'oh, f* how can I fill a video with this?!' or 'great, I always wanted to talk BS for several minutes straight'
at least it made me laugh (about the ridiculous video and me wasting even more time for this BS)
