Pokémon has ALWAYS had mature themes. Gangsters that blatantly murder the Mons, creepy old pervs, Lavender Town as a whole, Mewtwo's origin... The games are twisted. The anime is sometimes, and some of the movies have been especially dark. Like the Lucario movie, and the Zoroark movie. And the manga is probably the darkest of them all. It even features zombie Pokémon in the Kanto arc. And the Elite 4 are evil masterminds working with Team Rocket. Some of the gym leaders(Not counting Giovanni himself, obviously) are in kahoots with Team Rocket too. Crazy stuff.
Pokemon XY and XYZ were absolutely the best when it came to the pokemon anime. It's still the only pokemon content that gets me hype next to the manga, which can get really dark.
I think Sun & Moon deserve some credit, even if I totally agree that the XY era is some of the best. The art style had plenty of charm, and was def overrated by the fandom for not looking like what they’d known before. There are some really sad and emotional moments that are well executed. And, to be totally honest, I really liked how they implemented Guzma, especially now that I’m more familiar with the Impostor Phenomenon that Guzman clearly suffers from.
@@andrewfox5663 Sun and Moon is underrated. The artstyle switch is jarring but it was pretty good and also, it is where Ash finally won the league. That Ash vs Kukui fight also great.

@Caporal_CroaporalI would say that the bad of XY is better than the bad of DP and SM, this also falls under the average. However, the peak of DP and SM for me surpasses the peak of XY, in terms of animation.
Honestly, this season made my childhood! Still rewatch it to this day because the entire team of four are my comfort characters! Glad to see that despite a decade later, people are making content on this.
No yeah he was completely right on the battles part because due to the animation being less flexible they were able to animate the e battles wayyyyy better than majority of shows
@JoseLuisAlcala-f4e More like one of the worst. In the Pokémon Anime, it's Mary Sue 🐂💩, complete with inconsistent and poorly explained lore that is very clearly not planned from the get-go, on top of giving Ash specialness points, and Ash not even having to lift a single finger in order to get it, as well as it serving as an "instant win button". And in the games? It cannot pass Battle Bond onto its offspring, its Nature is neutral, and you need to waste a turn either KO'ing a foe's Pokémon or getting one of your own Pokémon KO'd. Plus, all it's really good for is a +50 Atk and SpAtk boost, as well as a +10 Spd boost, none of which are enough to push it past Protean Greninja (and its auto-STAB bonuses and coverage) or be able to compete with Mega Evolved Pokémon (such as Mega Charizard X and its Tough Claws ability) by itself. It's 💩.
6:06 In terms of anime, I would call it the most anticipated gym battle cuz Ash had challenged him early on in the show when he found out Clemont was the gym leader but personally this wasn’t the best battle but definitely top 3
While he doesn’t really realize it, Ash definitely has some feelings for Serena. He was so soft and sweet with her compared to the other Pokegirls. They encouraged each other and their goals and dreams, and she is the first and only Pokegirl that he’s ever asked for her to join him on his journey.
He doesn't actually feel anything towards her. In fact, he's the least comfortable around her, and hasn't in the slightest reciprocated her one-sided affections.
@ Idk what anime you watched that your saying that he was the least comfortable around her when she is the first and only person that he personally asked the join on their adventure. Sure you can say that he never showed any solid evidence of liking Serena back but he definitely cared about her a lot. Just say you don’t like Serena or the ship, you don’t have to say that Ash doesn’t care about her.
@Jcartist_10 Ash inviting Serena doesn't really mean anything. And how Ash treats Serena is literally just him being a good friend. Also, the ship both ruined Serena's character, and held her back throughout the entirety of the XY anime. So...
@@LittleAl016 Serena’s crush of Ash is the whole reason she ever started her adventure. And it was the baseline of her development. Going from just wanting to be with Ash to having her own dreams and purpose for going on the adventure. She was able to become her own person bc she went on the adventure. Idc that you don’t like the ship, so you shouldn’t care that I like it
@Jcartist_10 It shouldn't be a reason for her to start her adventure or be a driving force behind any "development" she gets. In regards to Serena starting her adventure, that's just setting her up to be Ash's companion purely because she fawns over him, which I shouldn't have to explain to anyone why that's pathetic and doesn't even qualify as agency or gumption. Why does Serena need to be given that kind of treatment when no other girl, not even the one character who's the closest thing Ash has to a real, honest to Arceus, actual love interest (read: Misty), has that kind of treatment? Why is she allowed to get away with establishing so much less about her than every other girl Ash traveled with outright shows us in just two episodes? Even the first few moments of the XY games does more to characterize their own version of Serena then the Anime Serena's first two episodes. In regards to Serena developing, Ash and Serena, even now, do not yet have the romantic or platonic chemistry necessary to be able to take her crush on Ash driving her "development" as a good thing. Especially since she would have still been at home, practicing Rhyhorn Racing, had she simply not seen Ash on TV, or had such an intense crush (with such a silly basis) on him that would make her even consider leaving just to be with him. Even with her growing more confident, sure of herself, bold, and motivated, and with her "finding her dreams" (that she gave up on in favor of Contests, and for the sake of trying to impress Ash anyways) and "finding her purpose" (has that really happened?), she still ends up looking like someone who only has as much agency as her crush on Ash allows her to have. And even if her "development" wasn't all a sham, and that she had actually grown more confident, sure of herself, bold, and motivated, all for the sake of not only herself and those she cares about, it would still be undermined by the fact that she only got to that point due to a blatant and silly crush on a boy whose very presence in Kalos was televised. And personally, I'm far more interested in characters who are their own characters, Ash need not apply, than I am in characters who are only characters because they are friends and companions to Ash. I couldn't even give a rat's behind if you like the ship or not. All I'm trying to do is inform you of the many problems it has.
Thanks for this. Yeah, Pokemon's been slowly tuning into Digimon/Monster-rancher/Medabots for years now. So many things it's now straight up lifted from them. I haven't watched for years, but I actually hear good things about he past 3-4 series.
