People really didn't give Sun and Moon a chance after seeing the art style change and how Ash is going to school rather than travelling through Alola. And I WAS skeptical about the art style change when it first came out but still gave it a genuine shot. Unlike past regions Ash has been to, he didn't travel across Alola, He LIVED in Alola. He learned so much from everyone he met there from Professor Kukui, his classmates, his Pokemon, and the battles he had with Tapu Koko and the various other opponents he met. So I REALLY love how in the Special Preview for the Masters 8 Tournament in Pokemon Journeys, Ash is the representative of Alola. I also REALLY love how Ash's Pokemon also grew alongside Ash AND had rivals too, Rockruff/Lycanroc with Gladion's Lycanroc, Litten/Torracat with Masked Royal's/Kukui's Incineroar, Rowlet with Hau's Dartrix/Decidueye and Pikachu with Tapu Koko, and all of them got conclusions to their rivalry at the Alola League. And a thing I'd like to add about the Alola League is that the final battle Ash had against Kukui was an Exhibition Match, Ash already became Champion after defeating Gladion in the Finals so the battle had no stakes, it's a battle of Ash and Kukui (who's essentially his father figure) where both sides can have fun and go all out. Overall in Sun and Moon, Ash wasn't just some kid from Pallet Town visiting the region, he became a part of Alola and that's why during the final clash against Kukui and Tapu Koko, he and Pikachu were able to overpower Tapu Koko's Guardian of Alola in the end, everything they did in Alola made them stronger not just as battlers but as People and Pokemon as well.
this is personally one of my fav of the pokemon series because the story telling is some of the best and the character development for not just ash but all the side characters is so good. the professor is my fav by far and literally becomes ash's father figure to the point ash is called the professors baby sons brother. the style change is very weird but u get used to it. also the rowlett thing is a meme but is also kinda valid like it was always asleep and somehow won fights by accident while sleeping but when it was awake and serious it was kinda goated, way more than any rowlett should be lmfao
13:11 These guys were either an Ultra Sun&Moon release or specifically for Pokémon GO, because I first heard about these guys, Meltan and Melmetal, from that one Pokémon GO mission/event. And I did play the first Sun&Moon games without running into one of these guys sooo.... either way, clearly, I did not watch the end of this anime season, lmao
I didn’t mind Sun and Moon, but I can see why people don’t enjoy it. To go from XYZ having the best Story and Animation/battles, to immediately turn into a Slice of Life episodic styled show, was a major change that most people couldn’t get behind
Huh, if we are talking about animation, then Sun and Moon has the best ones with Journeys. XYZ had a... "Good" story I guess (barely, just lasted 2 episodes), and animation was kinda low as always. ARTSTYLE however was good for two fights. But aside from that, it looked really stiff and wasn't that dynamic. Also the colours getting a bit darker helped a bit. Sun and Moon went uphill with storytelling, giving Ash's friends an actual personality without being a c*cks*cker, without just being Temu kind of remastered female character (Serena is just Dawn with less personality, and doesn't bring much to the travel and story), talking about darker things and letting everyone have their character arc. And the story didn't feel as heavy and stupid. No imaginary city, no character to just serve as a cook,... People just hate on Sun and Moon because they can't accept a change in artstyle, seeing the series actually have its own identity, more colourful and expressive...
While I agree on the animation, I didn't really see much of a story element that impressive with Ash, Clemont and Serena had story development sure, the former wanting to become a good gym leader, and the latter wanting to figure out what to do with herself since she wanted to find her own path in life by then entering showcases and going on to contests, bonnie was just comic relief, but Ash? It was essentially the same stuff different region in terms of story for the most part. Kalos's real major problem was hype, the writers continuously would hype people up, then drop the ball rather than deliver when it mattered, and as for all the good stuff with Greninja, they seem to have been busy retconning it out by journeys... Then again every saga's got flaws, none of them are perfect.
SM had way better animation tbh, and felt way more cohesive since there were a lot of reoccurring characters they met. Ash actually had a father figure for once too.
I didnt even know people hated this show i used to watch this show every Saturday on disney XD it was such a fun and chill anime and the intro always put me in a good mood i enjoyed this anime and x&y and black & white but after sun and moon i stopped watching the new shows i do remember journeys coming out but never was fully interested last thing i rmeber was ash catching gengar
2:49 To give you a bit more info on Yo-Kai Watch, it’s kinda like Pokémon except the creatures are Yōkais (mythological spirits that are popular in Japanese culture), and they have the ability to mess with people’s emotions. The Yokai are normally invisible to people (like ghosts), EXCEPT for those who wear special watches (which are only a few people if I remember correctly). The watch-users can also summon Yokai that they befriend by putting a special disk into their watches. The series failed in the US, but it’s still popular in Japan to this day (either almost or as popular as Pokémon there). Also, I admit, I was one of the people who hated the animation style they went with at first. I also stopped watching the anime during Black and White for some reason (I don’t remember why, maybe I was interested in other stuff, idk), but I would still watch an episode here or there of XY. When I saw the commercials and stuff for the Sun+Moon anime, I really didn’t like it. HOWEVER, that was until I found out about one of the saddest episodes being in that season (the Stoutland episode, for those who know), and I got a bit more hopeful for the season. Then I found out that Ash actually won an actual championship (not like the Orange Island one, but becoming an OFFICIAL CHAMPION), and I began to think that I needed to see it!😁
I was onboard with Sun and Moon from day one, I held my faith with the series in spite of the changes because I knew fans were overreacting, and It ended up being something even greater than I expected, and it's fitting that Ash would be the winner of this league, the game itself makes a bigger point of becoming the champion, especially considering the Alolan League is newly formed and not previously established, making you the first champion, so Ash reaching that rank here becomes a pretty cool reflection of the games in that regard
i used to be just like goopy, i used to hate the series when it first came out, but rewatching it, it is a great show. i highly recommend you watch it!
15:33 Yeah, the whole meme of this fight is the fact that Ash got bailed out by plot and Hau got hella cheated. It was actually kinda sad, cuz' Hau legit cries in the post-battle scene with his grandpa.
2:42 the people who worked on the show said they changed the look because they wanted something to fit the laid back island aesthetic more Had nothing to do with yokai watch
13:23 Im not kidding, ive been play the og pkmn sun game for years (last year, sadly, the save got corrupted, so i now have a pkmn sun game with over 8 years of data gone). Ill confirm that Meltan/Melmetal was never introduced in the games, but was later added into Let's go Pikachu/Eevee & u could transfer them to Pkmn Go. Then was added to the gen 8 games. Trust me, i had played that game so much i had nothing else to do other than just grind out shinies or IV's, i already completed the pokedex. Hell i had almost every mega stone in that game before the festival plaza (the place u can fight/trade online) had broke & kept crashing every time i opend it back on August 17th, 2017 (yes. That day traumatized me to the point i remembered the exact date) But other than that, the little guy was the best in the anime
Sun & Moon is the greatest Pokémon series of all time! It was the anime that I watched the most on Netflix (until it got removed two years ago), not only the series had such great characters (where I discovered Mallow as my favorite Pokémon girl) but it also had episodes which are considered to be the darkest (where Faba kidnaps Lillie to reveal her secret fear), the saddest (where Mallow reunites with her mother in Tapu Fini's mist) and the greatest (where Ash finally earned his first league victory), along with a satisfying and beautiful ending that made everyone believe that Ash was leaving the anime until "Pokémon Journeys" got announced (where Ash revisits every region and later becomes the new world champion). Here is what I think how the three seasons of Sun & Moon should have been planned for the anime listed below (as well as the Alola League with episode lengths and special moments for every main character). Season 1 - Nebby Arc, Main Antagonist: Lusamine (45 episodes) Season 2 - Ultra Beast Arc, Main Antagonist: Giovanni (48 episodes) Season 3 - Alola League Arc, Main Antagonist: Guzma (52 episodes) First Round - 1v1 (Top 16) Ash vs. Ilima - Winner: Ash Guzma vs. Samson - Winner: Guzma Mallow vs. Lana - Winner: Lana Sophocles vs. Hau - Winner: Hau Kahili vs. Faba - Winner: Faba Acerola vs. Mina - Winner: Acerola Kiawe vs. Ryuki - Winner: Kiawe Lillie vs. Gladion - Winner: Gladion Quarterfinals - 2v2 (Top 8) Gladion vs. Faba - Winner: Gladion Acerola vs. Guzma - Winner: Guzma Kiawe vs. Lana - Winner: Kiawe Ash vs. Hau - Winner: Ash Semifinals - 3v3 (Top 4) Kiawe vs. Gladion - Winner: Gladion Ash vs. Guzma - Winner: Ash Finals - Full Battle (Top 2) Ash vs. Gladion - Winner: Ash Episode 1: Opening Ceremony Episode 2: Preliminaries (Battle Royal 151) Episode 3: First Round #1 (Ash vs. Ilima, Guzma vs. Samson, Mallow vs. Lana) Episode 4: First Round #2 (Sophocles vs. Hau, Kahili vs. Faba, Acerola vs. Mina) Episode 5: First Round #3 (Kiawe vs. Ryuki, Lillie vs. Gladion) Episode 6: Quarterfinals #1 (Gladion vs. Faba, Acerola vs. Guzma) Episode 7: Quarterfinals #2 (Kiawe vs. Lana) Episode 8: Quarterfinals #3 (Ash vs. Hau) Episode 9: Semifinals #1 (Kiawe vs. Gladion) Episode 10: Semifinals #2 (Ash vs. Guzma/Part 1) Episode 11: Semifinals #3 (Ash vs. Guzma/Part 2) Episode 12: Guzzlord Invasion #1 Episode 13: Guzzlord Invasion #2 Episode 14: Finals #1 (Ash vs. Gladion/Part 1) Episode 15: Finals #2 (Ash vs. Gladion/Part 2) Episode 16: Finals #3 (Ash vs. Gladion/Part 3) Episode 17: Masked Royal Backstory Episode 18: Exhibition Match #1 (Ash vs. Kukui/Part 1) Episode 19: Exhibition Match #2 (Ash vs. Kukui/Part 2) Episode 20: Exhibition Match #3 (Ash vs. Kukui/Part 3) Special Moments 1. Mallow perfecting her Z-Move and emotionally praised by Lana. 2. Sophocles taking on Hau without holding back. 3. Lillie showing her progress as a trainer and making Lusamine proud. 4. Kiawe and Lana respecting each other about their goals. 5. Hau being appreciated by Hala for giving his all against Ash. 6. Kiawe forming a new rivalry with Gladion. 7. Guzma reconciling with Kukui and apologizes for his past actions. 8. Poipole returning as Naganadel and fends off the Guzzlord Invasion. 9. Meltan evolving into Melmetal during in the finals. 10. Ash defeating Gladion and earning his first ever league victory. 11. Torracat defeating Incineroar and becoming Incineroar itself. 12. Pikachu defeating Tapu Koko in the exhibition match.
Him saying he was 10yrs old watching XY explains why he didn't like S&M. Cause a lot of people stuck it out with the series or went back to watch when Ash reached the Alola League. I didn't like the change in design to Ash, yet the designs for everyone else was amazing. It is underrated, yet not underrated. If that makes sense? I like the flowing hand drawn animation, because it isn't "stiff" like Pokemon was before or most anime. If that makes sense? As a day one fan who grew up with Pokemon since the first episode premiered, this series was completely refreshing to the same old formula. The slice of life style was awesome. Plus, Dave really mastered his podcast voice when reviewing videos 😂. Dave: why ____? What ___? Me: Just watch the anime 💁🏽♂️
Kiawe really is the second best bro for Ash after Brock. Loved his energy, on top of him being one of the most responsible, well put together young adults with him helping with the family business and all that.
i was exactly the same when it released all those years ago and then last year i watched through all of sun and moon aswell as journeys and wow, the fights towards the end of sun and moon were insane, sun and moon was just very slice of lifey and i had to adjust to it
2:48 Ayo, Yo-Kai Watch mentioned? As a Yo-Kai Watch AND Pokemon fan... I LOVE YOKAI WATCH The games, The anime, they're so well done, and it sucks that it wasn't as popular outside of japan because people who never actually gave it a chance just took one look at it and assumed it was a pokemon ripoff. (which it isn't byw, the only similarity they have is that they're both Monster-taming games.) AND THEN games like PalWorld that are clearly ripping off & capitalizing off of Pokemon are praised But anyway i liked the anime, it was funny. & the games were really good & innovative, they're mostly on the 3DS unfortunately, & the ones that are on the Switch are only in japanese because as i said, the series didn't get as popular outside japan so they stopped localizing them after Yo-Kai Watch 3
13:17 The only way to get that pokemon is in pokemon go which sucks you can't get it in the actual game or get it to evolve in the regular games you have to do it in pokemon go
Sun and Moon is so genuinely amazing solely for giving Ash a singular setting to exist in. We get to see him as he is, a kid trying to grow into the Pokemon Master he wants to be. We get to see him take a step back, enjoy the environment and relaxing nature of Alola, and truly understanding the islands themselves. Yes Ash grew a lot in XY as a competent battler and as an interesting character, but Sun/Moon was what allowed for Ash to grow as a PERSON. He gets the time to reflect on his training and himself while in Alola, and the bonds formed with his friends at the Pkmn School genuinely make the Alola cast feel like an actual family. Professor Kukui feels like more of Ash's dad than...whoever his dad is lol. And I'm only talking just about Ash - every character in this series has a bit of depth, and our core group is so well developed! I know in the video he says Alola is a weaker region which is why Ash won, but that undersells how insanely strong we see characters like Lana, Kiawe, and Gladion can become over the course of the series. I just love Alola, its my 2nd fave generation of games and my fave of the animes. 🏝
Melmetal is a Mythical pokemon, that was introduced into the gen 7 era of games, but not sun and moon. It was added to Pokemon Go, and was transferable to Lets Go Pikachu and Lets Go Eevee, which were made after SM
I could never understand why people particularly hated the Sun&Moon animation??? It's a style, pokémon's animation and art style has been ACTIVELY CHANGING THROUGHOUT THE SEASONS, like c'mon! X&Y Ash looks NOTHING like Indigo league Ash, so I just refused to believe that the art style is why people disliked it. Sure, the expressions can be goofy, but uh??? Pokémon was never a realistic show full of nit and grit. They wanted to do some world building outside of the normal, considering pokémon ISN'T JUST ABOUT BATTLING, so, I'm pretty sure y'all were more upset with the slice of life paced momentum of the plot, cause the previous season, X&Y, felt much more action packed and world stakes and there's definitely more land diversity than Alola being literal groups of islands (so you get jungle and beach and ocean towns! Volcanic rocks! Nothing else. Get your rolling grasslands out of here), making a lot of the episodes' settings feel similar. But let's be real, you're not upset about the art style, You're upset because you don't want to stop and look at the scenery with everyone else. Although let's be real, again, the first three seasons of pokémon ARE LITERALLY SLICE OF LIFE CODED. WE DIDN'T GET ANY MAJOR LIFE THREATS BACK THEN UNTIL THE FIRST MOVIE. What exactly makes Sun&Moon so different to the paper cutouts in the first season?? They have expressions?? I can't and won't ever understand what makes either style better or worse than the other, because I think that entirely misses the point of art being made by DIFFERENT ARTISTS
The Sun and Moon arc definitely changed things.......... And a lot of people didn't like that because they like the same song and dance. I get it but...... Sometimes change is good
I actually lost interest in Pokémon around the time XYZ ended and transitioned into Sun and Moon. I didn’t get back into the show until I heard Ash won the league. I watched Journeys, which was the new show that was coming out, and then I watched Sun and Moon, and it was so enjoyable. It’s my favourite series of the bunch by far.
Ik you've had issues with some of Weazy's vids cuz of youtube so Idk if u have reacted to these 1s. But if u haven't, I'm sure you'll love The DRAGONITE w/ 10 MOVES that COOKED ASH KETCHUM! and The Articuno Raid Battle That Went HORRIBLY Wrong...
I remember them showing the trailer many years ago, and the immediate issue was people complaining about the art style. Still. What it has in crackhead faces makes up for story despite its episodic nature.
Sun and moon was the great series in the pokemon franchise especially the games But they could have did a lot more 😅 And despite all the things wrong with it it was still fun
The Pokemon anime reactions are fire, keep it up 🔥 I saw 1 of your other videos that you weren't sure on whether to watch the Pokémon anime or not because you just wanted to see the battles. I recommend a channel called Zactoshii, he’s great. I highly recommend you check out his Pokemon anime review series where he reviews every series honestly talking about the good and the bad. I feel like this would help you figure out which series you want to watch and you can react to these videos too.
It was just a big change for me I was in elementary school first ever series I watched in full was xy and xyz once it ended sun and moon came out it made me stop watching it entirely art style maturity the humor everything changed.
Looking back, I always ended up enjoying the Pokémon-only special shorts they tacked onto the DVD's (Y'all know the ones). And probably the moment that drove this point was in an early S/M episode where Ash's Pikachu and Rowlet & Lana's Popplio get caught in one of its bubbles. Honestly, the scene itself is nothing special, usual Pokémon shenanigans, but it's the escalation. From start to finish isn't even 20 seconds, I think. I could not react to it until it was all done, it was that fast, and I was dying. I think it was somewhere in episode 15-17, somewhere in there.
It's the animation for me. To go from what it was to this soft cartoonish look, yeah no not for me. I also dropped Pokemon at the start of gen 5, black n white
Well black and white is by far the worst series in the franchise so you didnt miss anything leading up to the league + the league. Post unova league is when the series actually has some interesting things in it.
I didn’t mind Sun and Moon, yeah the animation style was something to get used to, but I still enjoyed it , I actually like slice of life anime. But I didn’t watch the rest of Pokémon after that just because I lost interest
I didnt like its wonky animation it selt too unserious for me but thats just my expectations that ash was gonna stay cool from XYZ (ik the animation gets better once they do their Z moves... Maybe its cuz i had my expectations too jigh like the guy says)
random and unneeded artstyle change was the reason for me it was just jarring to go from the best animation and battles to barely any battles and somewhat lackluster except for a few episodes and the literal championship and finale... I went back and watched it all a few years later but yea the start is extremely slow and is vastly different from any of the previous series.... hell half the interesting episodes were just going back to other regions visiting old characters? Hell even journeys had a reason for going to last regions and meeting older characters and did it MUCH MUCH BETTER! Being the world tournament and all~ It would make in the context of the story to randomly see brock or misty again or hell may~ But it just don't fit for alola~
I think the seires was fun when they did it slice of life and with the slight action at the end, but then they dragged it on with the ultra beast too much imo and it turned into power ranger. Finally the "real" reason appeared cause Ash "needed" to win something to appease the fans so that he would have any excuse to feel proud going into generation were he faced of against the other league leaders.
Personally, I hate Sun and Moon. It's not appealing to me. The story went from having to save an entire region from destruction with his ace at the time (Greninja) and having to leave him behind because of that fraud of a legendary pokemon To Ash going on vacation and getting introduced to a one-time use of an ultimate move per battle, His team was awful as well, let alone a dumbass team that ruined their potentials like Black and White. But at least in B&W, Ash was rebooted in S&M
And yet it was less child friendly than the earlier seasons. Sun and Moon looked more dynamic and expressive, brighter too (meaning higher risks of epilepsy, but they avoided that), and it had darker topics than earlier season
I watched Alola or at least most of Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Moon up to the Necrozma incident but I couldn't get further. The animation style was a bit too much for me at times and the episodic stories werent consistent enough for me to care most of the time. There are definitely some highlight episodes I got to watch but I just couldn't do it. My main issue was that it felt like nothing was happening most episodes and that bored me. It was hilarious to watch and fun though. Finally, I hate the league. Hau got cheated, Faba was straight up cheating, the battle royale was bs, and the finals being a 3v3 is crazy work. Ash got a win but he didn't freaking deserve it and its why I hate that he’s Alola’s champion. He doesn't deserve the title and didn't earn it which coming off Kalos felt like a massive slap in the face. It felt like writers just wanted to appease the fans after Kalos so they let Ash win but they did it in a way so unsatisfying that it only pissed me off more!! I probably would have been okay with the battle royale if that was all cause I think it works with Alola’s culture and vibe but OMG the actual battles Ash was in pissed me off aside from the final three. If they wanted Ash to earn his title make the mask royale his finals battle, gladion the semi-finals, Guzma quarter final, and his first fight be against Hau and let Ash win without borderline cheating and finally get Faba out of here!!! Or let Guzma fight Kukui like it should have happened!!!!
I played hours of sun and moon and It's also when I got into pokemon cards, BRING BACK TAG TEAM'S AND TEAM UP'S POKEMON :(. But yeah, Sun and moon all the way
I honestly don't know why I never picked this up. I think the artstyle changing to this cartoony one really drawed people who watched xyz away including me back then. I feel people never watched this because they compared it to xyz and not as it's own thing. I've seen sun and moon clips over the years and think it's funny as hell. That's just me tho I love comedy
You really should pick it up, yes it's quite funny but the battles are really good alongside some really nice character arcs like ash's lycanroc and incineroar and lillie for example
As an original pokemon fan the art style is horrible. Its almost as bad as what sonic was goong to look like before they fixed it. Not bashing anyone for liking it but dont bash me for thinking its shit.
You now I watched the xyz series and I might have been the only one who thought it was good not like horrible or god made this shit but just good. But I loved the alola series.
There is a lot wrong with Sun and Moon, specifically for people who loved what came before. - X and Y had Ash at his most put-together and mature yet. SM shrank him, de-aged him, and sent him to primary school. - All of the previous seasons gave him the goal of challenging the regional League, or League-like structure. SM sent him to primary school. The Trials felt overwhelmingly like an afterthought comparatively. - It had some great storylines, but handled the ones from the games (and the SM games were my favourites narratively) quite lazily. And then when they started the League arc... oh boy. - The league was so slapdash and unprofessional that there was no way it should have been considered an official league. Heck, if that made Ash a League Champion, he had been one since the Orange Islands, which was comparatively vastly more professional, while neither had a Goodshow in sight. - The opening battle royale was an embarrassment. The heroes just teamed up in their cliques to turn it into 'our dozen or so against whatever poor individuals try to play it properly', which they then tried to portray as a bad thing when Plumeria and her grunts did it, only for them to be done tremendously dirty. - Guzma was utterly wasted. One of the best characters in the game franchise, given next to no time to show it. I loved the scenes he was in, but they were not nearly enough. - Ash straight-up cheats against Hau, multiple times. First with the disguise armour he builds it - which has a direct impact on the fight - and then with an audience member overruling the judge's decision to give Hau the win by pointing out that Rowlet was merely asleep (which was good enough for disqualification in Kanto), and then not just restart the match, but allow Ash to wake Rowlet up. With Fabia also cheating relentlessly, the matches were even more of an embarrassment. - The Finals, determining the champion, were a pathetic 3v3. Sure, some nice animation, but having that be Ash's great win was humiliating. The Kukui fight does not count, that was not part of the tournament, that was the reward (and it is a problem in and of itself when the reward is 'battle a local celebrity'). That last point is the big problem for me. Every previous league in the series was like a slice of cake, without the icing of victory. Some of them were still delicious, some of them were utterly disappointing (*cough* Unova *cough*), but none had that last touch of sweetness. Alola was a splodge of icing on a mud pie. I am so glad Journeys let Ash actually earn something great afterwards, even if I have my problems with it too (of course I have problems with that, I have been following the franchise for 25 years, it would have had to cure the cancer of anyone watching it to meet my hopes by that point). Overall, for me, SM had many strengths (I cried so much at the Stoutland episode), but left me with a growing sour and bitter taste that became far too much by the end.
But the problem about XY Ash is that it doesn't FEEL Ash. Compared to other series, Ash here is more of a generic shoenen protagonist, he's also treated as being perfect/flawless so most of Serena and Clemont's interactions are really just their admiration for Ash. I know that it's just Ash having a lot of experience from his past adventures, but the fact he only had one arc where he was shown some kind of weakness and that was when he was doubting himself over losing (even though it was only twice. First time being when he lost to Sawyer even though he beat him already before and again when he lost to Wulfric) And unlike other regions, Ash is not traveling in Alola, he's LIVING in Alola, he wasn't just some kid from Pallet Town visiting the region, he became a part of Alola and learned so much from everyone, his classmates, Professor Kukui, his Pokemon and the battles he had with Tapu Koko and the various opponents he's met. I also REALLY appreciate Sun and Moon for how they handled Ash's Pokemon, it wasn't like Greninja hogging all the spotlight, EVERY member of Ash's Alola team had their opportunity to shine and do their absolute finest and no one is considered "fodder", yes even Rowlet is still a strong member.
@@theonlineninja7596 Those are excellent points. For the first point, I felt the same to a certain extent, but feel confident that I would not have minded at all if Ash had won the league in that season - if his growth and maturity had paid off. I have often felt that would be a great way to send off the character - victory in Kalos to demonstrate how far he had come, (and then I would say returning to Kanto to pay off the info from Sinnoh about how non-citizens have to go back to challenge the Elite 4 of their home region, because I am as established a nitpicker, which is I admit something fixed by him becoming an Alolan resident), then since Alola has no proper League, that could be the Journeys seasons, with Alola hosting the grand tournament as neutral ground, and teasing in how they are setting up their own league. And then the new trainer could have started in Galar, and been Scottish or Welsh. SM going so far in the opposite direction from XY made the win feel hollow - the Ash set up from Kanto to Kalos would not have been satisfied with the Alola League as a demonstration of his achievements, any more than he had been for the Orange Islands. Him living in the region had the advantages you describe, but meant that the episodes lacked a certain momentum. It did not feel like he was making progress in his episodic adventures, not even geographic progress - at least to me. I agree on the team side, even if I am still heartbroken that his League win and subsequent Journeys adventure did not see him include more of his older parties, but that is due to my own built-up perspective.
@@tiredtortoise3396 Ash did not get any set up during the gap starting with the beginning of Hoenn and ending with the ending of Kalos. He was constantly reset every generation until Alola ended. He didn't grow or mature until Alola.
@@LittleAl016 That is true, though I could make a case for it being a narrower issue - Ash in Hoenn did not fall too far from Johto, since (like in XY) he played a mentoring role in the group for May, and Max certainly knew who he was. Similarly, Sinnoh did not reset him too far, so that he could mentor Dawn and effectively rival Paul. He lost his rosters and fell back somewhat, but I always felt that could largely be explained by his impulsive personality and unfamiliarity with the region. As many have belaboured over the years, Unova was the problem. I remember when XY came out, I felt like they had spliced from the end of DP to this new season, as it felt like a much more natural progression. Or maybe I am looking through glasses so rose-tinted that the world looks like a Fairy-type gym :D
Sun and Moon was dog water. Everyone who likes it is confusing the idea of liking something with that meaning that thing is good. Just because you like something doesn't mean it's good. The biggest issue with the show is that it looks like someone puked on my screen and said it was art. That's just a fact. It looks horrible. Everyone agrees, even the fans of the show say you "have to get used to it." Yeah, like Stockholm Syndrome. Besides the horrible art style and the pacing issues, the biggest problem fans of other seasons have is the lack of serious battles or trainers. Ash finally wins a league....it was the baby league....and he had to cheat to win. Rowlet vs Decidueye. That was embarrassing. Ash won because the league organizer said "Ash gets a do over." Twice. First he used an illegal item in the stupid costume Rowlet was wearing, and yes it was illegl because it played a major factor in the battle and caused Rowlet to survive when it was going to just lose. Then Rowlet fell asleep and Ash got a pause in the battle so Rowlet could wake up. The sheer brainrot in that last sentence makes my teeth itch. Ash lost the indigo league because? Because Charizard fell asleep. Now Rowlet falls asleep and Ash gets a do over. Then there's his Meltan ate part of a Pokémon, and nobody had anything to say about that. Certain Pokémon are not simply the animal or creature themselves. Like Kangaskhan, you couldn't catch one without its baby in the pouch. Or you couldn't catch the baby, and it make it count either. You have to have both. They are attached. Same goes for ones with accessories attached to them like Alakazam's spoons or....Hypno's coin. His Meltan ate Hypno's coin. That's like biting off a limb. Ash's league win is shady....and it was the baby league. You wanted to know why people hate this season? There's reasons to hate it.
There's no reason to hate this season. And "everyone who likes it is confusing the idea of liking something with that meaning that thing is good" describes DP and XY far more than it describes SM.
@@LittleAl016 "There's no reason to hate this season." That is just a lie. You could say that my reasons aren't significant enough to hate the season. You could say the reasons to like it outweigh the reasons to hate it. But to just lie and say there's NO reason... You prove you don't have actual points. You can't give reasons or counter arguments. You just have the child mentality of "Nuh uh" being your justification against criticism. You further prove that by not addressing what I actually said. Ash was a Pokemon Trainer Veteran in Sun and Moon. He would have steamrolled everything and everyone if he was actually trying. Charizard, Infernape, Primape, Pidgeot, Snorlax, Tauros, Kingler, Greninja, Sceptile, Bayleef, Lapras, Heracross, Goodra, Gible, Glalie, Pikachu when he isn't being nerfed. Let's not pretend Ash has a weak roster of Pokemon. The fact that he won in Sun and Moon....the baby league....the vacation league...the light work league, by CHEATING is ridiculous. There is no amount of character moments, or tearful events that can justify that nonsense. Ash's next appearance is him being a mentor....that doesn't last long, but that's how it started. How the hell can he be a mentor when his last league performance was him CHEATING against children. And by children I don't mean age I mean in experience. Ash fought against and alongside Legendaries! But had to cheat against beginners? Miss me with that shit. Look like the show if you like it, but don't pretend it's good.
@@blackromeoKOK It's literally one of the best seasons of the Pokémon Anime alongside Horizons. Only Indigo League is better. How is acknowledging that fact "pretending"?
Kneejerk reaction to the major artstyle change, would take time to get used to, was changed for the better for the animation team. Also, I do not own a television, and unable to catch US airings anyway. Always available to watch removed the urgency of the weekly new episode as well. Keept pushing back viewing again and again, to an undetermined later date.
I enjoyed the Sun and Moon anime & the games. Also, I think those who hate Sun and Moon are those who were angry that Ash lost the Kalos League in XY & the art style change.
XYZ still my fav and goat show but I did watch Sun and Moon and it was good. Takes a bit to pick up and get immersed into it but I eventually got attuned to the theme song and the atmosphere and the more comedic aspect of it. Overall great show but xyz is just better imo
Honestly in my opinion I don’t think Ash was needed XYZ would’ve been a perfect ending if the writers weren’t so stupid Lillie would be a better protagonist for S&M she had a good back story and character development she pretty much carried the show
@He doesn’t have to be he can make an appearance as a guest character in any of them showing off how much he’s grown since whenever the last time we saw him
People really didn't give Sun and Moon a chance after seeing the art style change and how Ash is going to school rather than travelling through Alola.
You probably never saw that pokemon, Melmetal, because it's a weird obtaining method that has to do with Pokemon GO and stuff
Yeah, you could only.
Catch marital In pokemon go Then you would have to evolve it in pokemon go
I didn’t mind Sun and Moon, but I can see why people don’t enjoy it.
@ Ik not saying it was bad, just saying it can see why disliked it
Young people like edge characters cool looking instead of wholesome
Then I found out that Ash actually won an actual championship (not like the Orange Island one, but becoming an OFFICIAL CHAMPION), and I began to think that I needed to see it!😁
Basically because of oversaturation in a short amount of time.
I was onboard with Sun and Moon from day one, I held my faith with the series in spite of the changes because I knew fans were overreacting, and It ended up being something even greater than I expected, and it's fitting that Ash would be the winner of this league, the game itself makes a bigger point of becoming the champion, especially considering the Alolan League is newly formed and not previously established, making you the first champion, so Ash reaching that rank here becomes a pretty cool reflection of the games in that regard
sun moon is my fav era of pokemon and dang people used too hate it alot but it soo peak nostagila
Yea I was so mad when Netflix removed sun and moon it was the only series I watched on there at the time and I cancelled my subscription
Sun and Moon is so underrated it's a crime
Honestly, just fix Ash’s face and this series is perfect. I adore it
i used to be just like goopy, i used to hate the series when it first came out, but rewatching it, it is a great show. i highly recommend you watch it!
15:33 Yeah, the whole meme of this fight is the fact that Ash got bailed out by plot and Hau got hella cheated. It was actually kinda sad, cuz' Hau legit cries in the post-battle scene with his grandpa.
2:42 the people who worked on the show said they changed the look because they wanted something to fit the laid back island aesthetic more
Had nothing to do with yokai watch
The sun & moon anime seasons are my absolute favorite of the bunch
That day traumatized me to the point i remembered the exact date)
But other than that, the little guy was the best in the anime
Season 1 - Nebby Arc, Main Antagonist: Lusamine (45 episodes)

(which it isn't byw, the only similarity they have is that they're both Monster-taming games.)
AND THEN games like PalWorld that are clearly ripping off & capitalizing off of Pokemon are praised But anyway i liked the anime, it was funny. & the games were really good & innovative, they're mostly on the 3DS unfortunately, & the ones that are on the Switch are only in japanese because as i said, the series didn't get as popular outside japan so they stopped localizing them after Yo-Kai Watch 3
Meltan was an event pokemon in the game only obtainable by getting transferred from Pokemon Go
not going to lie it definitely took a WHILE to get used to the new art style. but now it has become my favorite season.
As I always say gotta give things time to grow on you
13:17 The only way to get that pokemon is in pokemon go which sucks you can't get it in the actual game or get it to evolve in the regular games you have to do it in pokemon go
9:54 SUN&MOON TEAM ROCKET ABSOLUTELY SLAPS, I WOULD DIE FOR THEM AND JAMES' MARINIE AND JESSIE'S MIMIKYU AND THEIR BEWEAR FRIEND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW-
Best thing Pokemon will ever make... Not an insult
Besides Horizons, Orange Islands, and Indigo League, in regards to the anime specifically.
Crazy that being 10 when sun and moon was released makes you 18-19 now
I could never understand why people particularly hated the Sun&Moon animation???
15:48 nope not a joke it was really badass
To me I think it was the best bc how much they changed everything and I love a fresh start for ash and the same for Pokemon journey
The Sun and Moon arc definitely changed things.......... And a lot of people didn't like that because they like the same song and dance. I get it but...... Sometimes change is good
Wonder how he'd like Legends of Avantris' animated shorts?
Might have some good laughs with them.
Pokemon season one and yo Kai watch season one are both peak and iconic and I can’t decide which is better
People are way too serious sometimes there’s nothing wrong with getting something more laid back 2:02
Yo Kai Watch vs Pokemon = Drake vs K. Dot
i honestly loved sun and moon. i didnt like how it wasnt like XY but Sun and Moon is one of my favourite.
Maybe try to react to videos of Zactoshi? Maybe even his reviews about all sagas and arcs
Ik you've had issues with some of Weazy's vids cuz of youtube so Idk if u have reacted to these 1s. But if u haven't, I'm sure you'll love
The DRAGONITE w/ 10 MOVES that COOKED ASH KETCHUM!
and
The Articuno Raid Battle That Went HORRIBLY Wrong...
I remember them showing the trailer many years ago, and the immediate issue was people complaining about the art style. Still. What it has in crackhead faces makes up for story despite its episodic nature.
I may be bias but I started pokemon during the sun and moon eria and I loved it
Sun and moon was the great series in the pokemon franchise especially the games But they could have did a lot more 😅 And despite all the things wrong with it it was still fun
I don't remember Sun and Moon being on Disney XD. Then again I never could keep up with Pokémon after the Diamond and Pearl series
It's a vibe but a drastic design change compared to xyz that's my opinion
5:33 nah there were trailers
People knew and they were stubborn
Also I'll say it, I absolutely prefer Ash's Sun&Moon design to the B&W design- although Journeys Ash is peak-
I went back and watched it and I can say I relate to goieys feelings
Animation style of sun & moon it amazing guess what looks better than x & y
It's the animation for me. To go from what it was to this soft cartoonish look, yeah no not for me. I also dropped Pokemon at the start of gen 5, black n white
Well black and white is by far the worst series in the franchise so you didnt miss anything leading up to the league + the league. Post unova league is when the series actually has some interesting things in it.
I enjoyed sun and moon regardless, especially the end
I didn’t mind Sun and Moon, yeah the animation style was something to get used to, but I still enjoyed it , I actually like slice of life anime. But I didn’t watch the rest of Pokémon after that just because I lost interest
Heyy softwilly made new music!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉😂🎉🎉🎉
I didnt like its wonky animation it selt too unserious for me but thats just my expectations that ash was gonna stay cool from XYZ
(ik the animation gets better once they do their Z moves... Maybe its cuz i had my expectations too jigh like the guy says)
Ash wasn't "cool" in XYZ. Just empty and a spotlight hogger.
@LittleAl016 your right your right
It was supposed to be unserious that’s the point
People are way too serious sometimes there’s nothing wrong with getting something more laid back
You should do a reaction to Weazymode’s Ash vs Hau video
random and unneeded artstyle change was the reason for me it was just jarring to go from
the best animation and battles to barely any battles and somewhat lackluster except for a few episodes and the literal championship and finale...
Sun and Moon got me into Pokemon and I love it than sy and xyz
Personally, I hate Sun and Moon. It's not appealing to me. The story went from having to save an entire region from destruction with his ace at the time (Greninja) and having to leave him behind because of that fraud of a legendary pokemon
To Ash going on vacation and getting introduced to a one-time use of an ultimate move per battle,
His team was awful as well, let alone a dumbass team that ruined their potentials like Black and White. But at least in B&W, Ash was rebooted in S&M
I loved sun and moon 😅
The yokai watch game are peak
React to more group chat content (softwilly, Willy, or isaacwhy)
god forbid kids media looks child friendly
They called this brain rot 😂
And older pokemon that we watched as kids wasn't and didn't? Not liking the art style is a completely valid thing
And yet it was less child friendly than the earlier seasons. Sun and Moon looked more dynamic and expressive, brighter too (meaning higher risks of epilepsy, but they avoided that), and it had darker topics than earlier season
@@Itsukazutrap It was more child-friendly than DP and XY.
15:37 the joke is that Rowlet is a dirty cheater and got bailed out like three times in that fight and won when it had no right too!
Can you react to (ren for Joe)
But I loved the alola series.
are u gonna react to pokemon xy and xyz?
Not the full episodes. That’s just asking for copyright problems and channel deletion.
I dont care what people think all season where ash were my favorite since he not there no more im not watchin
Please watch "The darkest Pokemon game you've never played" by jaiden animations!
Yokai watch is fun
First time being when he lost to Sawyer even though he beat him already before and again when he lost to Wulfric)
And unlike other regions, Ash is not traveling in Alola, he's LIVING in Alola, he wasn't just some kid from Pallet Town visiting the region, he became a part of Alola and learned so much from everyone, his classmates, Professor Kukui, his Pokemon and the battles he had with Tapu Koko and the various opponents he's met.
Good series but xyz better and ash’s face sucked and was to goofy at times especially after xyz but other then that it’s still good
React to slashest new video
Journeys is better
Nah.
@@LittleAl016 "There's no reason to hate this season."
That is just a lie.
@@LittleAl016 "It's literally one of the best seasons."
Wonderful argument. So detailed. Much informative. 😴
XY is still my favorite, they made ash the most badass he’s been since Kanto. And of course… Serena
No. Ash in XY was completely divorced from how Ash was in Kanto. Also, Serena's actually nothing special.
Sun and moon is good but I can see why people hate it
XYZ still my fav and goat show but I did watch Sun and Moon and it was good. Takes a bit to pick up and get immersed into it but I eventually got attuned to the theme song and the atmosphere and the more comedic aspect of it. Overall great show but xyz is just better imo
XYZ really isn't better.
Honestly in my opinion I don’t think Ash was needed
XYZ would’ve been a perfect ending if the writers weren’t so stupid
Lillie would be a better protagonist for S&M she had a good back story and character development she pretty much carried the show
If the writers weren't stupid, Ash wouldn't be the main male protagonist for AG, DP, BW, or XY.
@He doesn’t have to be he can make an appearance as a guest character in any of them showing off how much he’s grown since whenever the last time we saw him
