  • Should you buy a budget Android tablet in 2023 and is the Oppo Pad Air a worthy choice? This review shows off the familiar specs and features of the Oppo Pad Air, comparing vs rival cheap tablets like the Xiaomi Pad 6, and that more expensive iPad.
For under £200 you can grab a decent budget tab these days, ideal for web browsing, reading magazines, streaming video, editing docs and more. I’d also recommend grabbing an Oppo Pad Air or similar affordable Android if you want to keep your kids entertained, or as a portable screen to carry around the home.
You can even turn budget tablets like the Oppo Pad Air into a compact makeshift laptop using a keyboard dock. They’re small, light and great for smashing out emails or essays wherever you wander.
So what’s your pick of the best budget Android tablet in 2023? Let us know what you’re using below!

Absolutely love your vids Chris. The wit and references are just wonderfully British. You're a legend. I don't think I watch any other techtuber more than you. But I'm a little puzzled as to why you opted for this 10" Oppo tablet as the best budget option rather than say the 12" Honor Pad 8, which I have.. It's got the same or better specs and 2 inches bigger screen than this, all for the same money so surely that would have been a better bang for your buck choice.
Regardless, keep up those shenanigans and keep the country amused!

I always recommend the Lenovo P11 or Yoga Tab 11. We have the Yoga in the household and it is incredibly versatile with the built-in kickstand/hanger, good speakers, great display, and the pen also works really well. It's take it over the comparative 9th gen any day.
The M8 is a no-go because micro USB but the M9 that replaced it fixed that.

    • @forgottencameras
      @forgottencameras Год назад +7

@@davetech356 Yes, very comparable. The Fire 11 Max is subsidized, meaning it will generally be cheaper since it is used primarily as a terminal for Amazon services. This is something that is a selling point for some or a total turn-off for others.
I like as close to bone-stock Android as possible, so I avoid Fire tablets. But that's just me.

I bought an Amazon Fire Tablet last year for just under 200CAD. It has a 10.1 inch FHD display, 64GB memory, earphone jack, great battery life, and I can plug in a flash drive if I want to access more data. It does have some drawbacks: many of the apps in Google Playstore aren't available and have to be sideloaded, like Chrome, and it's not blazing fast but since I use it exclusively for reading e-books and occasionally watching a movie, it's more than good enough, especially considering the price.

Hey Mr Spurty... Is it possible to start doing a quick check on the phones/tablets you get to review to see if they can connect to your TV via USB to HDMI cable and such? In other words, which have USB Displayport - 'ALT Mode' capabilities... I have a well aged Nvidia Shield K1 Tablet connected to my TV as a form of media player, and with it's old Android 7 and 2Gb Ram is DEFINITELY showing its age! So, am interested in what phones/tablets have this type of connectivity, and NO it doesn't have to be Moto's Ready for or Samsungs DeX etc, just maybe check/mention which devices you CAN do USB 'ALT Mode'. Would be a handy thing to know for us out here that would like the option to connect our phones to 'The big screen'. Thanks fella! 👍

If you showcase the front camera for video calls you must show the back one as well, as often people swap between the two to show something to the people they are on a call to. I agree that photos are pretty much irrelevant, though elderly and young people are less likely to have a phone with a camera (see Doro) so that's a bit disgusting to say that if you are old or a toddler and use the only camera you have to take photos, you will burn in hell, but that aside, there is real case use for that back sensor if you are not a spoiled middle age tech reviewer.

Still unable to find a successor to my NINE YEAR OLD(!!!) Sony Xperia Tablet Z3 Compact. It's 270g light, 6mm thin, has IP68, 16:10 FullHD Screen, front facing stereo speakers, micro-SD, headphone jack...
Most modern Tablets have like 2x the weight and no IP-rating

For the money, its hard to beat the Kindle Fire HD 6. Tgey can be had for about $20 for the 1GB/16GB configuration and converting them to full Android is rather trivial. Your only limitation seems to be Android 5.0 (AOSP) on board

honestly im very happy with my, pretty much noname, chinese tablet. 10 inches and big enough battery for reading PDFs and checking mails, and that`s all I do on my tablet.

I have a lenovo p11 an dlove it, my only gripe i cant find a keyboard case that i like. The type keyboard case i like only availble for ipad and fire hd10 which shame. Not fan of folios and kickstand style ones. Mainly cause i usually have my tablet when in bed and cases with stands and foilios arent really perfect for bed.

Android tablets are awesome and much better for movie watching than iPads due to the screen aspect ratio. The best bang for buck is probably the Fire 10 which is easily turned in to a regular Android tablet by sideloading Google.

Why can't they do an 8" with a halfway decent octa core in it, anyone? You get some fairly decent processors in budget phones but those same processors seems WAY too good for a smaller Android tablet. So, if you want to navigate in-car using a tablet which will open Waze, and respond before you get to your destination, an iPad mini with a cell feature is sadly your only option. Seems normal people should keep taking care of their eye sight since you'll need to either keep navigating with your phone or get lost with in-car navigation.

It's inevitable that you will compare the performance of the tablet with your phone's. In a year from now it will seem painfully slow and you will put it in a box where you keep your never-used gizmos...
