Another great video. I do have a question; why do you use f/11? Don't get me wrong, the pictures look great. I shoot a Canon r6 mk II and use an 85mm EF 1.8 lens. I never thought of going that small. I would have shot it at f/8 but I'd like to understand what your thinking process is. I appreciate it- Vic
no particular reason. i wanted to show the background... but the truth is - if it were up to me i would shoot this at f1.2 thats my favorite - love what it does to the skin and the overall milkyness of the image, but then you know... the trolls come out and tell me im a horrible photographer... you dont shoot portraits at f1.2 blah blah blah... :) cheers!
Rembrandt had a large skylight in his studio that helped create his iconic look, and it wasn't just his his self-portraits, it was many of his portraits. This last bit is just my opinion but I feel like the lighting pattern in the thumbnail to this video is loop lighting, not Rembrandt. I always love watching you work with light, thanks for the education!
yeah... youre not wrong... the difference between rembrandt and loop is very subtle.. tied to the triangle meeting in the shadow. which its not... i would say we are closer to rembrandt than loop... but i see your point. :)
I want to take something similar to this but still bring out the color of the skin, have a clear, crisp picture and have shadows to use as a reference for a pastel painting. Would you change anything.

Fair and if your model has a smaller nose it can make it incredibly difficult, if not near impossible to get the lighting pattern.
